[Bug 1853343] [NEW] Please detect sound and X server in WSL2, too
Public bug reported: [Impact] * Ubuntu in WSL2 does not detect the PulseAudio or X11 server running on Windows. Detecting them is easy and doing so improves the setup experience. [Test Case] (Run once in WSL1 and once in WSL2) * Install and start PulseAudio for Windows ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WSL#Enabling_Sound ) * Install and start an X11 server for Windows ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WSL#Running_Graphical_Applications ) * Start the Ubuntu WSL terminal * Make sure pulseaudio is not installed: $ pulseaudio Command 'pulseaudio' not found, but can be installed with: apt install pulseaudio * Install mpg321 and x11-utils inside Ubuntu and run xeyes and play an MP3 file $ sudo apt install x11-utils mpg321 $ xeyes $ mpg321 foo.mp3 * Install pulseaudio $ sudo apt install pulseaudio * Close all Ubuntu WSL sessions * Start the Ubuntu WSL terminal again * Play an MP3 again, it should still work [Regression Potential] * Since the detection takes place in setting the profile mistakes in the implementation may trigger errors show to the users on login. Detecting X and PulseAudio may also break in WSL1 with the changed detection logic, but tests include verifying that this still works. ** Affects: wslu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1853343 Title: Please detect sound and X server in WSL2, too To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wslu/+bug/1853343/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1850615] Re: gnome-shell hardlocks under load
I've had this happen a number of times again on a fresh 19.10 install, with no extra extensions enabled. It seems to happen when an app isn't responding for a handful of seconds and trying to switch between apps via Alt+Tab or between workspaces. A SIGSTOP would probably be enough to simulate the app hanging. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850615 Title: gnome-shell hardlocks under load To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1850615/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1852679] Re: CLI to copy to clipboard does not work
Its hard to say for sure. In my case it is specific with the gnome- screenshot -a -c command. It doesn't matter where I'm at if I want to use that command to grab a screenshot it fails. It looks like it functions just fine, You can see the screen flash like it should, there is the sound effect and everything. But when you go to paste it into whatever you are pasting it into, discord, slack, a document it doesn't matter. It pastes whatever text you last had in the clipboard. There is no image. Now I did learn last night that if I do the ctrl + shift + prtscr that does copy to the clipboard as it should. I don't know if that key combo uses a different program for screenshots. But I can confirm with 100% that the gnome-screenshot cli to grab a selected area and put it in the clipboard does not work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852679 Title: CLI to copy to clipboard does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screenshot/+bug/1852679/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1853042] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla
--- Comment From ihch...@us.ibm.com 2019-11-20 10:28 EDT--- Hello, Thanks very much for the advice. I will try those settings as suggested. Our high-level goal is to provide a solution to enable NVMe as the local storage in the cloud node shared by multiple VMs. This would require 1) allocated storage space for different VMs with (security) isolation 2) I/O bandwidth performance with QoS. For high overhead of file system passthrough, is it possible to profile the performance overhead? Thanks again. [Bug 1847924] Re: Introduce broken state parsing to mdadm
Robie asked me for a second opinion on this, so I had a look at it right now. I must say that I'm a bit undecided here, similarly to Robie. But with my SRU-hat on, first thing first: we should not introduce behavior changes that can introduce regressions of existing tools without very solid reasons. So in this case, I only see (b) as an option, but this also depends how the SRU would look like if we added our additional changes on top. All this seems a bit 'a lot' for a medium-impact bug, especially for an important tool like mdadm. Also, this does fall a bit into the 'feature' category, which is not necessarily disallowed for an SRU, but not something we'd prefer doing without it having a lot of people affected/interested. So my opinion is: let's think about how much this change is needed. If we decide there is more than a few users that would profit from this change, the next step would be to see the final diff with the additional conditional and see if the change is still manageable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1847924 Title: Introduce broken state parsing to mdadm To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/+bug/1847924/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1841485] Re: Unbearable whistling in headphones
Hello, I have making tests in Debian 10, Mint 19.2 and Ubuntu 18.04, these 3 OS all suffer from the same problem with the priose 3.5mm jack that whistles when headphones are plugged in and no sound is broadcast. The problem is related to the Realtek ALC3266 sound card. If you open the sound settings software, the whistle disappears, as soon as you close it the whistle comes back. If you open VLC or any other player, the whistle disappears, as soon as you close it the whistle comes back. When there is no signal sent to the sound card the problem is present. One way to solve this problem would be to continuously send a "blank" signal (just a signal without sound) to this sound card. After tests, this laptop works perfectly under Debian if it is connected to a "Sharkoon Gaming DAC Pro S (USB-DAC)" sound card or on a "USB-3 type C to 3.5 mm jack adapter". But it does not work properly with the Realtek ALC3266 integrated sound card. Yesterday after I made an installation of MX Linux 19 on my laptop that does not use "systemd" but "init", I noticed that I have no problems with my headphones connected jack 3.5 mm to the Realtek ALC3266 integrated sound card All work perfectly :) But I dont like realy this Linux distribution... MX Linux 19 OS with which everything is working properly is based on Debian 10 Buster I hope that these additional indications will allow you to solve this bug which seems to exist since several years and has never been solved... I hope that with a new look at this bug, that you finally will fix it !!! Please give my news form this bug. [Bug 1852510] Re: IO errors when writing large amounts of data to USB storage in eoan on RPI2/3 (armhf kernel)
** Description changed: + [Impact] + On the RPI2/3 boards with eoan armhf kernel, if we copy large size + files to usb stick, the usb host driver dwc_otg will fail and print + lots of IO errors in the dmesg. + + [Fix] + To support rpi4, we enabled the LPAE/HIGHMEM/VMSPLIT_3G in the armhf + kernel, the dwc_otg has some problem with highmem enabled. If the + urb's buffer is in the highmem region, the enqueue function will return + the -EINVALID unconditionally, as a result, it can't handle the urb + which contains the highmem buffer. But the driver itself can handle the + highmem buffer, we just need to do a little change. + + [Test Case] + With the patch applied, I tested armhf and arm64 kernel on rpi2/3/4, + all worked well, no regression and the usb driver works well. + + [Regression Risk] + Low, the upstream already looked at my patch and agreed with my + change, and I tested the patch on rpi2/3/4 with armhf and arm64 + kernels, all worked well. + + Kernel tested: Linux ubuntu 5.3.0-1012-raspi2 #14-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 11 10:08:39 UTC 2019 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux I've only been able to reproduce this with the armhf kernel and on the following devices: RPI3B+ RPI3B RPI2 At the moment, it does not appear that arm64 is affected, nor are RPI3A+ and RPI4 (at least not the 2GB version) Steps to reproduce: - Insert and mount a USB storage device - cp a large file to it (300-600MB recommended - smaller files will sometimes not trigger it) - sync After running the sync, a lot of IO errors will show up in dmesg like: [ 176.129299] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#0 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK [ 176.129326] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#0 CDB: Write(10) 2a 00 00 2e 24 b0 00 00 f0 00 [ 176.129349] blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 3024048 op 0x1:(WRITE) flags 0x4000 phys_seg 15 prio class 0 [ 176.883968] usb 1-1.1.2: reset high-speed USB device number 8 using dwc_otg [ 177.079960] usb 1-1.1.2: reset high-speed USB device number 8 using dwc_otg It eventually finishes, and if you unmount/remount the device, the checksum will be different from the original file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852510 Title: IO errors when writing large amounts of data to USB storage in eoan on RPI2/3 (armhf kernel) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi2/+bug/1852510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1851340] Re: Ubuntu 19.10 upgrade results in invisible mouse cursor
I'm also in a similar situation - cursor disappeared after upgrade, and doesn't show up in any Xorg sessions (whether invoked directly, or through different DMs), and regardless of cursor theme. I'm also using a basic graphics card - the on-board Matrox G200 on a Dell server machine. I've observed the same problem with Xorg, so I don't imagine it's a Wayland issue. Notably, my cursor is also invisible in GDM and lightdm. [Bug 1777708] Re: Desktop briefly becomes unresponsive when typing on 2 keyboards at the same time
One guy (Wiggy boy Wiggy boy ) found a fix: from: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/1858 I'm trying out some stuff on Ubuntu 19.10 right now actually. If you wanna help me or guide me I'd be more than happy to receive your help. Send me an email REMOVED . EDIT: I think I've got this working actually. So I thought it'd be writing down in case someone else comes around wanting to duplicate it (perhaps those over at the Ubuntu Bug Report Forums). Be aware though, I JUST have it working now and have no idea if something will break later down the line. I bricked my Ubuntu installation twice trying to get it to work. So I'm running Ubuntu 19.10 now, for this to work any older version will not work (at least not with this method). So currently 19.10 is running gnome-shell 3.34.1 and we'll need to downgrade to 3.34.0 as this includes the fix, before it was reverted. Unfortunately the compiled packages have been removed so we'll have to download and install them manually and figure out the dependencies so things don't break. Luckily however, Launchpad has some built packages, so we'll need to download for mutter: gir1.2-mutter-5_3.34.0-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb libmutter-5-0_3.34.0-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb mutter-common_3.34.0-3ubuntu1_all.deb mutter_3.34.0-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb and for gnome-shell: gnome-shell-common_3.34.0-1ubuntu1_all.deb gnome-shell_3.34.0-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb If the direct links doesn't work, here's where I found all the dpkg files, or if you're not running amd64 architecture, you should also be able to find alternatives: mutter-3.34.0-3ubuntu1 gnome-shell-3.34.0-1ubuntu1 So, once you've got all the files you need. Open the terminal and the following command to exit the desktop enviroment (I don't know if this is needed but why not?): sudo init 3 Then install each and everyone of your dpkg files with sudo dpkg -i /path/to/deb/file like so: sudo dpkg -i gir1.2-mutter-5_3.34.0-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i libmutter-5-0_3.34.0-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i mutter-common_3.34.0-3ubuntu1_all.deb sudo dpkg -i mutter_3.34.0-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i gnome-shell-common_3.34.0-1ubuntu1_all.deb sudo dpkg -i gnome-shell_3.34.0-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb Do not worry if it complains or warns about missing dependencies or breaking dependencies. This is because you have a newer version installed, and we're replacing them one by one. Once finished, we start the desktop environment again with: sudo init 5 Finally, we wanna let APT know not to update these packages, because that would undo everything. We do that by running following: sudo apt-mark hold gir1.2-mutter-5 sudo apt-mark hold libmutter-5-0 sudo apt-mark hold mutter-common sudo apt-mark hold mutter sudo apt-mark hold gnome-shell-common sudo apt-mark hold gnome-shell Now you're done! Once everything has been fixed and maybe you do want to upgrade all your versions, just run the previous commands but substitute hold with unhold. That should tell APT that it's okay to upgrade those packages again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108 Title: Desktop briefly becomes unresponsive when typing on 2 keyboards at the same time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/meta-gnome3/+bug/108/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
