[Bug 1853199] Re: Ctrl + c (copy) anywhere some times crashes gnome session
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. [Bug 1852166] Re: [nouveau] Pixel pattern error at 120Hz or 144Hz, but 60Hz works
I can see a couple of pixel-layout-related settings here: dithering depth: auto supported: auto, 6 bpc, 8 bpc dithering mode: auto supported: auto, off, static 2x2, dynamic 2x2, temporal The nouveau kernel driver provides them regardless of the attached monitor. You can tweak them with: xrandr --output DP-1 --set or similar. Though that might not help... What might help is installing the proprietary Nvidia driver instead. [Bug 1852166] Re: [nouveau] Pixel pattern error at 120Hz or 144Hz, but 60Hz works
One interesting observation is that your logs are saying that 60Hz is the preferred native mode of the monitor: [ 1165.229] (II) modeset(0): First detailed timing is preferred mode [ 1165.229] (II) modeset(0): Preferred mode is native pixel format and refresh rate ... [ 1165.229] (II) modeset(0): Printing probed modes for output DP-1 [ 1165.229] (II) modeset(0): Modeline "1920x1080"x60.0 148.50 1920 2008 2052 2200 1080 1084 1089 1125 +hsync +vsync (67.5 kHz eP) [ 1165.229] (II) modeset(0): Modeline "1920x1080"x144.0 356.39 1920 2008 2052 2200 1080 1084 1089 1125 +hsync +vsync (162.0 kHz e) [ 1165.229] (II) modeset(0): Modeline "1920x1080"x120.0 297.00 1920 1968 2000 2200 1080 1083 1088 1125 +hsync +vsync (135.0 kHz e) ... Which is also shown in this list: 1920x1080 (0x48) 148.500MHz +HSync +VSync *current +preferred h: width 1920 start 2008 end 2052 total 2200 skew0 clock 67.50KHz v: height 1080 start 1084 end 1089 total 1125 clock 60.00Hz 1920x1080 (0x49) 356.390MHz +HSync +VSync h: width 1920 start 2008 end 2052 total 2200 skew0 clock 162.00KHz v: height 1080 start 1084 end 1089 total 1125 clock 144.00Hz 1920x1080 (0x4a) 297.000MHz +HSync +VSync h: width 1920 start 1968 end 2000 total 2200 skew0 clock 135.00KHz v: height 1080 start 1083 end 1088 total 1125 clock 120.00Hz So it sounds like this might be a hardware limitation. Maybe it's changing something unusual to go above 60Hz and maybe just the Windows 10 driver is better at handling that, whatever it is. If this is a software bug then it should probably be assigned to the Linux kernel or Xorg modeset driver. Because the details of the pixel layout are only known and controllable there. ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852166 Title: [nouveau] Pixel pattern error at 120Hz or 144Hz, but 60Hz works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1852166/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1852101] Re: Monitors keep turning on when in power saving mode, every time.
I think most likely the cause here is an event from a mouse or keyboard -- even if you're not touching them. Please try: 1. Unplug all mice and keyboards. 2. Wait for the screen to turn off. 3. Does it turn back on? It uses keys to lock/unlock nvdimm devices (an interesting feature for 20.04 I suppose). I'm not entirely sure the emulated nvdimms will be enough for this test to run BUT I can help you after all this has been placed somewhere and is up and running. # other todos: i might be able to fix the TODOs here but I'm trying to be careful on how much time Im spending on this (balancing with other things for 20.04). @Christian: Do you think this patch could be put as a delta for ndctl/test directory ? I'm thinking in supportability in the next years to come. Keeping it out of the source package might make it hard to either extend it and/or fix changes. Note: ndctl/test is not used for anything in binary packages, it would just be in the source packages. I could even add those as debian/tests for autopkgtest, and skip tests if being ran in a machine that doesn't support nvdimms (even suggesting to Debian). Thoughts ? PS: I'm pretty sure with those tests we're able to maintain this and catch regressions regarding PMEM-based block devices being accessed with DAX and/or through MMAPs (having the mmap tests fixed would be also beneficial). For now I'm considering this done, missing only a place to merge this. [Bug 1853506] Re: [MIR] ndctl
This patch, applied to ndctl code upstream (v67-1-gf6cafcf), or focal devel, creates the testing environment we need. I have also created another set of scripts to create the virtual environment for the nvdimms emulation which I'll inform soon. TL;DR is: - a set of scripts will provision a kvm/qemu guest with nvdimm emulation - this VM will download focal (or upstream) ndctl source package - it will also download the patch file and apply to the source package - all the tests will run Where should I put this ? into qa-regression-testing ?
