[Bug 1853506] Re: [MIR] ndctl

2019-12-06 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
A merge proposal for all the tests I adapted:

https://code.launchpad.net/~rafaeldtinoco/ubuntu/+source/ndctl/+git/ndctl/+merge/376487

This makes much easier to run and support those tests (specially with a
xml example file provided on how to create the autopkgtest environment).

[Bug 1855520] [NEW] Issue with wsl-integration.sh script causing slow start of Ubuntu shell with WSL2

2019-12-06 Thread Jeff Strome
Public bug reported:

$lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
Release:18.04

Today I ran an apt update of my WSL2 Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS installation on
Windows 10 insider build 19037.1. I then noticed when I launched the
WSL2 Ubuntu shell that it took about 38 seconds to get a shell prompt.
This was not an issue until after I did the update. After some
troubleshooting I found out this delay was because of wsl-
integration.sh, that the wslu update appears to have added. The
following two commands:

env DISPLAY=${WSL_HOST}:0 xvinfo
env PULSE_SERVER=tcp:${WSL_HOST} pactl info

in this script are both timing out on my computer. Because both commands
are timing out, that accounted for the 38 seconds it took to get a shell
prompt.

In my case, my WSL_HOST IP was 172.24.144.1 and so I ran these two
commands:

env DISPLAY=172.24.144.1:0 xvinfo
env PULSE_SERVER=tcp:172.24.144.1 pactl info

and sure enough it took a combined time of about 38 seconds for them to
timeout. This is only an issue when running Ubuntu in WSL2, not WSL1.
WSL1 launches fine. In the case of the my WSL1 instance, the WSL_HOST
appears to be null when running your script, so it assigns localhost to
WSL_HOST, and both of these commands timeout without delay.

So it appears that most of these commits are already present in
4.15.0-72.

I had a look at the code for:

Subject: net/mlx5e: Add likely to the common RX checksum flow
Commit: 63a612f984a1fae040ab6f1c6a0f1fdcdf1954b8

This commit does not really fix anything, it is an optimisation. So we won't
worry about this commit any more.

Subject: net/mlx5e: Rx, Fix checksum calculation for new hardware
Commit: db849faa9bef993a1379dc510623f750a72fa7ce

This commit was selected for -upstream stable in 5.1.21 and 5.2.4.

Subject: net/mlx5e: Rx, Fixup skb checksum for packets with tail padding
Commit: 0aa1d18615c163f92935b806dcaff9157645233a

This commit was selected for -upstream stable in 4.19.76 and 5.0.10.

Those two commits really should have been applied to the bionic 4.15
kernel, but it seems they have been missed, probably due to not cleanly
applying to the 4.15 tree.

I will try and backport these commits now, and build you a test kernel
if I manage to successfully backport these patches.

I will write back shortly.

Matthew

[Bug 1855517] [NEW] xscreensaver - two displays and fliptext bottom pixel line on one display draws on wrong display

2019-12-06 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 20.04 QA-testing play on hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia
quadro nvs 290)

1. Boot Lubuntu 20.04 daily ISO on box
2. I adjust displays (LXQt.Monitor.Settings) to match my setup (one above the
other)
In theory LXQt.Monitor.Settings will not allow for overlap (still possible
in Lubuntu); I had displays NOT touch each other (ie. gap between) letting the
'apply' snap the displays so they were correctly touching
3. Change default (flurry) to (flipflop)
4. Click PREVIEW to display

Expected Result:

Images on each display not related to each other

Actual Result:

When the top display image touches the bottom of my 'upper' display, the
color appears on my 'lower' display. The actual image on my 'lower'
display is well away from top of screen. As the top image 'flips' and
color squares no longer go 'off' screen; they also disappear from my
bottom display.

The effect is NOT unpleasant; it looks like reflection from the bottom
(as colors (red, yellow, blue) are the same on both displays - but it's
unintended.

I've noted this behavior before & it was filed upstream to LXQt; they
eventually blamed openbox.

I've installed `sudo apt install xfwm4` then `xfwm4 --replace` to
attempt to replace openbox with wfwm4 (whilst running 'live') and the
issue remained still.

I also swapped my displays (so my-top was at the bottom, and my-bottom
was on-top) and xscreensaver now only hid one display - however I did
get the top line of pixels on the display which was no longer covered by
xscreensaver. This behavior has been noted before many times, but was
linked to the xscreensaver only covering single display
(http://launchpad.net/bugs/1814490)

I have now separated the issue (top pixel line on wrong display) -
however it's still possible they are linked. If displays are left-right
placed; the pixel line appears still on the wrong display, but at side
of display. This issue is not new (being noted on other bug reports as
secondary noticed issue until today).

Yes your kernel log is showing lots of errors:

[ 808.338925] [drm:drm_mode_addfb2 [drm]] [FB:75]
[ 808.355372] [drm:drm_mode_addfb2 [drm]] [FB:73]

However we are unable to help in this case because you are using an
unsupported PPA ("oibaf") for your graphics libraries, which is not from
Ubuntu. We often find that's the cause of serious graphics bugs. So this
bug will be marked as invalid. Please uninstall that PPA and then if you
continue to have problems feel free to open a new bug.

[Bug 1847566] Re: Unlocking the screen is slower the older the session

2019-12-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. The only slow things I can see in those logs relate to:

  * gnome-system-monitor snap - If you don't need it then please
uninstall it. This might also be a problem with your wifi.

  * DNS failures from your network provider - Please check your network
settings or try using the Google DNS server:
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns

If you feel the problem is memory related (which sounds most likely)
then please record output from running 'free -h', and also 'ps auxw'
noting which output is from when it was slower.

Please also don't encrypt attachments. If you want to keep them private
then you can make the whole bug private by changing its visibility at
the top right corner of this page.

[Bug 1854877] Re: External HDMI display not working with Intel GPU

2019-12-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This might be related to the fact that some HDMI ports are only
connected to the Nvidia GPU and others only connected to Intel. That's
normal, but might not be the only factor here.

To help us diagnose it further please run this command to collect more
system info:

[Bug 1854864] Re: "Dock" is used instead of "Dash"

2019-12-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Dock is kind of the right word. The feature is called the "Ubuntu Dock".
It's only in non-Ubuntu systems that it's called the Dash (by upstream
Gnome Shell).

I don't think there's anything to fix here. In Ubuntu it is "Dock" and
in upstream Gnome documentation it is the "Dash". They're actually
separate projects too. The only confusion really is that you might find
documentation for the Gnome Shell "Dash" in Ubuntu which Ubuntu does not
use.

Maybe with a screenshot? Are you referring to the icon grid, which is

[Bug 1854603] Re: Greek (polytonic) keyboard layout not handling some accent marks

2019-12-06 Thread Jane Atkinson
Since I first reported this bug, I've noticed that I also encounter it
on a fairly minimal Openbox system where I'm using setxkbmap to manage
the keyboard layouts. Which suggests that it may not be a Gnome-Shell
issue at all.

I've also got a Xubuntu 20.04 VM, and I'm not having these problems with
the keyboard layout there.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected wayland-session

** Description changed:

I’m running Ubuntu 20.04 (GNOME shell desktop: gnome-shell
  3.34.1+git20191024-1ubuntu1) in a QEMU/KVM vm.

I’m using a US keyboard which is set up to switch between English and
  polytonic Greek.

This has been working satisfactorily in 18.04.

However, in 20.04, I’m noticing that I can’t add the breathing marks or
diaeresis to lower-case letters in polytonic Greek. When I try to type
the marks, they appear on the screen but disappear immediately once I
  release the shift key.

I can add breathing marks and diaeresis to capital letters.

So far, I've seen this behaviour in LibreOffice, gedit and Firefox.

[Bug 1421808] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError("EnterVT failed for screen %d\n") from xf86VTEnter() from WakeupHandler()

2019-12-06 Thread Akkana Peck
This is happening pretty often to me in Eoan (system info uploaded in
bug 1852158 if it might help). I do often use an external monitor, but
the crash seldom happens if I suspend with the external monitor as Vlad
described. For me, it's more common that I sleep with the external
monitor connected, disconnect, wake up and run a script that uses xrandr
to enable the laptop display, work for a while, sleep, and then maybe on
one of the next 2-3 wakeups (still on the laptop display), the screen
will stay black, and when I try to switch VTs to try to get it back, X
crashes. It's sporadic and not reliably repeatable but happens often
enough to be frustrating.

[Bug 1855489] Re: Chromium auto-restart feature breaks many features

2019-12-06 Thread Alexis Wilke
Well, I can't really confirm whether it is a refresh (which I called
auto-restart) after an auto-update or a an actual crash... but for sure
the window does not change yet it gets disconnected from the Gnome
Desktop (and that has happened many times now). At least I'll post to
confirm that the history fails next time that happens and I'll check the
versions to see whether it happens when an upgrade happens.

However, the problem doesn't look like bug #1616650 in terms of
functionality, the tabs all remain in place and work just fine without
having to restart for many days after it gets disconnected from Gnome.
That being said, the read-only folder (point 2) sounds like that could
be part of the issue. I'm also not so sure that there was an update.
I'll now pay attention to the exact version and see whether it changes
next time the dot under the icon disappear.

BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842447

commit 5d407b071dc369c26a38398326ee2be53651cfe4 upstream

A kernel crash occurrs when defragmented packet is fragmented
in ip_do_fragment().
In defragment routine, skb_orphan() is called and
skb->ip_defrag_offset is set. but skb->sk and
skb->ip_defrag_offset are same union member. so that
frag->sk is not NULL.
Hence crash occurrs in skb->sk check routine in ip_do_fragment() when
defragmented packet is fragmented.
