[Bug 1852001] Re: KDE GUI freeze on high disk IO, but disabling swap fixes it

2019-12-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm not really sure this is a bug. It sounds like expected behaviour:

1. Disk gets thrashed.
2. Any processes relying on memory swapping to/from that disk get delayed.

No particular process is doing anything wrong. Just if you want to avoid
that situation then maybe don't configure swap on such a disk.

Then if you can survive without swap, problem solved. If you still need
swapping for other reasons then either do so on a different disk or add
more RAM, or run fewer programs.

I don't think there's any bug here(?)

[Bug 1855997] [NEW] firefox www.google.com crashes when a firefox instance is already running and MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND is set to 1

2019-12-10 Thread Marius Gedminas
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

- make sure Firefox is not running
- export MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1
- firefox

then in a new terminal

- export MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1
- firefox www.google.com

Expectation:

- a new tab opens in the Firefox window, loading google

Actual result:

- firefox crashes

This is a recent regression: it used to work fine in
70.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.19.10.1, broke when I upgraded to
71.0+build5-0ubuntu0.19.10.1.

[Bug 1855990] Re: linux-raspi2: dmesg prints calltrace when continuous memory allocation fails

2019-12-10 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose
+ [Impact]
+ When booting our raspi2 eoan kernel on rpi2/3/4, the dmesg sometimes
+ prints calltrace, that is because the fb driver fails to allocate memory
+ from cma, this is not critical since the fb driver could handle the
+ failure of allocation.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Disable the warning, then the calltrace will not be printed out.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Booting the kernel with high resolution moinitor, the fb drver print the
+ log about failure of allocation, but there is no calltrace anymore.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low, just disable a warning.

[Bug 1855994] [NEW] Merge or rebuilds collectd in Focal to pick up libgps25

2019-12-10 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

We are at:
 collectd | 5.9.2-4ubuntu1| focal/universe | source, amd64, arm64,
armhf, ppc64el, s390x

Debian has:
collectd | 5.9.2.g-1 | unstable | source, amd64,
arm64, armel, armhf, i386, mips64el, mipsel, ppc64el, s390x

We at least need a no change rebuild but have to check if we also
want/need the merge to happen to get this working.

Note: the Debian version seems odd, ensure this has no impacts.

[Bug 1855557] Re: please drop ifupdown depedency

2019-12-10 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Oh I didn't know yet that there was misfiring of components-missmatches for
i386-arch removals.
I was following the IRC discussion ~6h back from now. Thanks for that
clarification.
To copy it here:
[00:47] cyphermox: Odd_Bloke: we have removed i386 arch specific
packages, yet cloud-init and ifupdown2 are arch:all and it is a bug that they
are (a) published in i386 archive (b) used by components mismatches to promote
things
[00:48] cpaelzer: my bug report was slightly tangential to the
components mismatches being buggy.

Ok, with that resolved I agree that >=Eoan we should drop the "|
ifupdown" in the depends of cloud-init.

[Bug 1855570] Re: [nouveau][conroe] No Gnome is showing up in Ubuntu 20.04

2019-12-10 Thread Frans van Berckel
Sorry i wasn't clear about that. I am able to login with gdm3 with user
frans as expected. But next i am getting a Desktop without any Gnome
controls. I still can move the mouse over two screens. But even clicking
on the mouse buttons, doesn't show up any menu, to open up a terminal
for example.

[Bug 1855570] Re: [nouveau][conroe] No Gnome is showing up in Ubuntu 20.04

2019-12-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Curiously that most recent log isn't showing any failure that I
can find. It looks like Gnome is working (unlike the log messages at the
top of this bug)...

Dec 11 06:11:03 deblnxsrv100 systemd[1108]: Started GNOME Shell on X11.
Dec 11 06:11:03 deblnxsrv100 systemd[1108]: Reached target GNOME Shell on X11.
Dec 11 06:11:03 deblnxsrv100 systemd[1108]: Reached target GNOME Session is
initialized.
Dec 11 06:11:03 deblnxsrv100 systemd[1108]: Reached target GNOME X11 Session.
Dec 11 06:11:03 deblnxsrv100 systemd[1108]: Reached target GNOME Session
(session: ubuntu).

Do you see a login screen at all or does the problem occur before that?

I wonder if the system has just failed switch to the correct VT. Please
try Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+F2.

[Bug 1855938] Re: Screen freezes and only mouse moves

2019-12-10 Thread leogps via ubuntu-bugs
The whole shell and this happened before when I am working with other software.
The mouse moves but nothing in the screen responds to mouse or keyboard input.
I logged into the system from another laptop via shell and was able to generate
the bug report.

I followed comment #3 and it said the chrome crashes cannot be sent out
to ubuntu. I will enable on-demand or intel(performance mode) and see if
I can reproduce the issue.

Thanks.

Thanks. Unfortunately that did not work as well as expected. Please run
this command:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and then attach the file 'journal.txt'.

[Bug 1855237] Re: Unable to reboot Disco on Ubuntu LPAR s390x (5.0.0-38)

2019-12-10 Thread Sean Feole
Here is what we know so far,

Disco Kernel 5.0.0-38 , reboots just fine on S390x Zvm and KVM.
This appears to only affect the lpar.

The Lpar reboots just fine if we boot the previous cycles kernel and
issue a "$sudo reboot" from the command lines.

Looking at the commits for disco, it could be one of these causing this.

b3ff8122bafa s390/idle: fix cpu idle time calculation
98f8642e75cd s390/cmm: fix information leak in cmm_timeout_handler()
72006d0879eb s390/uaccess: avoid (false positive) compiler warnings
fced71a08bdf s390/mm: fix -Wunused-but-set-variable warnings

Will try to isolate and see if reverting these makes any difference in
behavior.

[Bug 1855938] Re: Screen freezes and only mouse moves

2019-12-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
When you say the screen freezes, are you referring to the whole shell or
just the web browser?

P.S. We are unable to handle Chrome crashes here because Chrome is not
part of Ubuntu. See also comment #3.

[Bug 1855938] Re: Screen freezes and only mouse moves

2019-12-10 Thread leogps via ubuntu-bugs
Hi Daniel,

The crash file I see is named "_opt_google_chrome_chrome.1000.crash". This
makes sense because I remember the crash happened when I was browsing on chrome.
However, when I do `ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_opt_google_chrome_chrome.1000.crash`, a google-chrome dialog opens
asking me to report it to google-chrome developers. I am not sure how to force
it so as to report the crash here.
I will attach the crash file here. I might manually create a bug if needed in
here with the crash file.

Also your latest upload from comment #12 shows:

!!Sound Servers on this system
!!

Pulseaudio:
  Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/pulseaudio)
  Running - No

So we need to find out why pulseaudio is not running. Please check
/var/crash for crash files. If there are any crash files then please
follow these instructions:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

Otherwise please try editing /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and add a new line:

 realtime-scheduling = no

then reboot.

  Ubuntu Version 18.04 LTS

  gdm3:
  Installed: 3.28.0-0ubuntu1 500

  Package name: /etc/gdm3

Whenever I boot Ubuntu following installation from the official install
ISO, the boot screen appears, but the login manager appears as static,
scrambled graphics, making me unable to login without opening the VT and
installing lightdm and switching to that login manager.

  Expected Results:
Login manager appears with login field, background, and menu while I am able
to find, click, and enter information into the login text fields.

  Actual Results:
Scrambled noise appeared on my screen and I am unable to leave without
force-shutting down my Gateway PC, or opening a VT and installing lightdm,
rebooting afterwards.

[Bug 1854531] Re: [radeon] Ubuntu fails to run Xorg the first reboot after I set WaylandEnabled to false in gdm3's custom.conf (AMD Caicos)

2019-12-10 Thread Seija Kijin
apport information

** Description changed:

Whenever I set Wayland to false in Gnome Display Manager's custom.conf
file and then reboot, I still see the same scrambled graphics on the
machine as if it were using Wayland. Rebooting the machine a SECOND time
resolves the issue. However, I should not have to reboot twice for the
  new setting to take effect.

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. When the machine boots up with scrambled graphics, press Control+Alt+F3
  2. Log into the machine using the tty session and run "sudo editor
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf
  3. Set Wayland to false and reboot
  4. Notice after reboot the same scrambled graphics appear until the user
reboots again

  Expected Results:
Gnome Display Manager runs xorg and xorg shows the correct graphics for the
machine.

  Actual Results:
Graphics are scrambled and settings do not appear to take effect until next
reboot.

This issue occurred right before 12:45 PM, EDT, on November 29, 2019.

2019-12-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It also sounds like there's a good chance this bug is fixed in the HWE
kernel for 18.04 already. To test that please try booting Ubuntu
18.04.3:

https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-
you?version=18.04.3&architecture=amd64

and tell us if that solves the problem.
