[Bug 1848900] Re: [amdgpu] Blank display with Eoan Ermine live DVD on Ryzen 3 2200G

2019-12-20 Thread Pierre-Yves
I am using xfce4 version 4.14. With the kernel 5.0.0-32-generic, everything is
OK.
With more recent kernel (5.3.0-23-generic and 5.3.0-24-generic), I have the
display bug. So, I think that it has no link with xfce

[Bug 1857167] [NEW] Firefox freezes due to a broken pipe when debugging

2019-12-20 Thread Seija Kijin
Public bug reported:

When I attempted to create a new tab and load Twitter (two Twitter tabs
are running with feeds streamed to the device), the entire app froze due
to a broken pipe.

I was debugging Firefox at this time in order to find a memory leak.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch Firefox
2. Open a Twitter tab
3. Open a Google Docs tab
4. Open another Twitter tab

Expected Results:
Both tabs load Twitter information without issue or freezing

Actual Results:
Firefox becomes unresponsive entirely.

[Bug 1857158] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2019-12-20

2019-12-20 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

[Bug 1800566] Re: Make reset_devices parameter default for kdump

2019-12-20 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
After some attempt to merge the work needed in LP #1816743 here, we
decided to split the bugs and only work the 'reset_devices' addition
here.

Cheers,

Guilherme

** Summary changed:

- Make reset_devices parameter default for kdump and decouple kdump systemd
service from the KDUMP_CMDLINE_APPEND
+ Make reset_devices parameter default for kdump

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  * Kdump does not configure by default the crash kernel to perform a
- device reset by default, by passing the "reset_devices" parameter. Also,
- the systemd service "kdump-tools-dump" is tightly-coupled with
- KDUMP_CMDLINE_APPEND and it shouldn't, to prevent user confusion.
+ device reset by default, by passing the "reset_devices" parameter.

  * Kernel has the "reset_devices" parameter that drivers can opt-in, and
perform special activity in case this parameter is parsed from command-
line. For example, in kdump kernels it hints the drivers that they are
booting from a non-healthy condition and needs to issue some form of
reset to the adapter, like clearing DMA mapping in their firmware for
- example. Users currently (kernel v5.2) are: aacraid, hpsa, ipr,
+ example. Users currently (kernel v5.5-rc2) are: aacraid, hpsa, ipr,
  megaraid_sas, mpt3sas, smartpqi, xenbus.

This should be enabled by default in the kdump config file to be added
in the kdump kernel command-line for all versions.

- * The systemd service"kdump-tools-dump" is responsible for triggering the
execution of the makedumpfile tool ultimately. Kdump from Xenial+ releases rely
on systemd as their init system, so this service is the way to trigger the
kdump mechanism. Currently it is configured as any other parameter in
KDUMP_CMDLINE_APPEND, meaning if user decides to change the line they need to
remember adding the systemd service back. It's not really a parameter that
should be easily manipulated in kdump line, since there's no use for it except
to instruct systemd to load kdump; the only
- reasonable case for removing it is to debug kdump itself.
-
-
  [Test Case]

- 1) Deploy a Disco VM e.g. with uvt-kvm
+ 1) Deploy a Bionic VM e.g. with uvt-kvm
  2) Install the kdump-tools package
  3) Run `kdump-config test`and check for the 'reset_devices' parameter:

  $ kdump-config test
  ...
  kexec command to be used:
    /sbin/kexec -p --command-line="BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-45-generic
root=LABEL=cloudimg-rootfs ro console=tty1 console=ttyS0 nr_cpus=1
systemd.unit=kdump-tools.service irqpoll nousb ata_piix.prefer_ms_hyperv=0"
/var/lib/kdump/vmlinuz
-
- Also, by changing the KDUMP_CMDLINE_APPEND we can see "systemd.unit
- =kdump-tools.service" to be removed.

  [Regression Potential]

The regression potential is low, since it doesn't need any changes in
makedumpfile code and we're only adding a parameter on the crash kernel
command-line. The risks are related with bad behavior with the kernel
when using "reset_devices", like if the driver has bugs in this path.
It's considered safer to have the option (and this way prevent problems
for booting a unhealthy kernel with potential stuck DMAs in the devices)
  than not having it.
-
- Regarding the other change, about the systemd service, it'll only affect
- users the are debugging kdump itself and it has no known regression
- potential.

[Bug 1816743] Re: Add systemd's kdump service command-line regardless if user provides or not KDUMP_CMDLINE_APPEND

2019-12-20 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
I'm un-marking this as duplicate - LP #1800566 is being worked only for the
reset_devices portion, so I'm decoupling both bugs in order we can work this
one soon-ish.

Guilherme

[Bug 1856795] Re: X2Go Client broken by 0.8.0~20170825.94fa1e38-1ubuntu0.5

2019-12-20 Thread Mihai Moldovan
The issue seems to be that the CVE fixes changed the path interpretation
to be literal.

See
https://git.libssh.org/projects/libssh.git/commit/src/scp.c?id=3830c7ae6eec751b7618d3fc159cb5bb3c8806a6

If that's intentional, and I think it is, then I will need to change
this behavior in X2Go Client directly instead and this bug report would
be invalid.

[Bug 1040629] Re: ubiquity: stuck at "Copying installation logs..." message during installation

2019-12-20 Thread Kenneth Hanson
Encountered this problem today installing Kubuntu 19.10.

A previous attempt to install resulted in bug 1846918, though this was
with the beta installer.

The first attempt with the final installer had no crash. Now I'm having
this problem.

I'm not sure what has resulted in these differences.

[Bug 1843479] Re: gzip in Ubuntu Eoan results in Exec format error on WSL1

2019-12-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Hayden, or anyone else affected,

Accepted binutils into eoan-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/binutils/2.33-2ubuntu1.2 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-eoan to verification-done-eoan. If it does not fix
the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag
to verification-failed-eoan. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1857152] Re: NVMe drive not properly detected (using 5.4.0-9-generic)

2019-12-20 Thread Dan Watkins
I've just booted into the 5.4.5 upstream kernel from
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.4.5/ and I'm seeing
that the NVMe drive _is_ detected correctly:

$ ls /dev/nvme*
/dev/nvme0
/dev/nvme0n1
/dev/nvme0n1p1
/dev/nvme0n1p2
/dev/nvme0n1p3
/dev/nvme0n1p4

The journal messages do look very similar, so maybe there isn't much to
be gleaned from them in the failing case:

$ journalctl -b0 | grep nvme
Dec 20 12:12:13 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: pci function :01:00.0
Dec 20 12:12:13 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: missing or invalid SUBNQN field.
Dec 20 12:12:13 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: allocated 64 MiB host memory
buffer.
Dec 20 12:12:13 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: 15/0/0 default/read/poll queues
Dec 20 12:12:13 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: Identify Descriptors failed (2)
Dec 20 12:12:13 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: Identify Descriptors failed (2)
Dec 20 12:12:13 surprise kernel: nvme0n1: p1 p2 p3 p4

[Bug 1857152] [NEW] NVMe drive not properly detected (using 5.4.0-9-generic)

2019-12-20 Thread Dan Watkins
Public bug reported:

I have a Windows partition on an NVMe drive in my machine. I have
confirmed that the drive is still functional by using it as the boot
device from the BIOS menu. When I boot into Ubuntu, the drive is
somewhat acknowledged, in that /dev/nvme0 exists, but the partitions are
not discovered.

Examining the journal, I see the following emitted from the kernel:

$ journalctl | grep nvme
Dec 20 11:30:04 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: pci function :01:00.0
Dec 20 11:30:04 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: missing or invalid SUBNQN field.
Dec 20 11:30:04 surprise kernel: nvme nvme0: allocated 64 MiB host memory
buffer.

2019-12-20 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1856863] Re: Ubiquity crashes when partitioning the disk with ZFS installation

2019-12-20 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Right it's an issue with CSM but I haven't been able to figure out exactly what
and produce a test case. The 4TB limit is a very good point though. I'll do
some more testing based on this hypothesis after EOY break.
Thanks for testing and your help.

[Bug 1856456] Re: package systemd 242-7ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: package systemd is already installed and configured

2019-12-20 Thread Eduardo dos Santos Barretto
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
