[Bug 1857310] Re: Out of date package no longer compatible with API

2019-12-22 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1857310

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1856846] Re: Gnome Xorg sessions fail to start with LDAP users (but Wayland or local users work)

2019-12-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also, be warned that if the problem only occurs with the PPA
https://launchpad.net/~univention-

close this bug as that is not part of Ubuntu. You may need to report the
bug to Univention instead:

[Bug 1856846] Re: GDM3 login loop with X11

2019-12-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Since you say the problem only happens with X11 and not Wayland, I
assume that refers to the choice of login session. Worth noting that the
login screen itself uses Wayland and not X11 :)

So if the only problem here is starting X sessions, please:

1. Reboot to clear the system log.
2. Try to log in with X11 once, it should fail.
3. Reboot the system again, immediately.
4. Try to log in with Wayland, it should succeed.
5. Run this command to gather the log of the failed attempt:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

6. Run these commands to give us extra information about the system:

   dmesg > dmesg.txt
   lspci -k > lspcik.txt

7. Attach all three text files here.

[Bug 1856161] Re: Thunderbolt dock fails to connect USB devices

2019-12-22 Thread Oded Arbel
As I mentioned in comment 22, connecting the thunderbolt dock without
any additional USB devices plugged in, works well. After the controller
initializes, I can plug in the rest of the devices and they get set up
properly.

Comment 22 has a dmesg log off that.

I haven't tried booting with the dock connected without the additional
USB devices, as that is not my use case (I don't usually shut down or
reboot my computer), but I can try that later today.

[Bug 1856846] Re: GDM3 login loop with X11

2019-12-22 Thread Timo Denissen
I'll add the log asap.

> Could you also give details on what you mean 'GDM loops around three to five
> times'?
Sure. GDM starts, I select my user to log in with, I enter my password, the
screen goes blank for two seconds, and I'm back at the user selection.

The password is not entered incorrectly, because if I mistype the
password I get the corresponding error message saying "Your password is
wrong".

[Bug 1857307] [NEW] Wireless wouldn't turn on.

2019-12-22 Thread Anatoly
Public bug reported:

I used Ubuntu on this machine starting with 16.04 LTS. The network PCI
never worked but USB D-Link card did work... up to recently and then it
stopped. I installed 18.04 LTS -- it read Airplane Mode On and nothing
could be done. rfkill gave me phy0 soft block no, hard block yes. But
f8+Fn only caused a pop-up message that Airplane Mod On or Off but not
in the status bar -- there it was always on with an instruction to use
hardware switch and setting wireless never worked. I installed KDE over
Ubuntu 19 now and Airplane Mode can be turned On and Off but WiFi never
turns on.

[Bug 1730947] Re: package fails to build with glibc-2.26

2019-12-22 Thread Stuart Longland
I hit the same bug on Gentoo with glibc-2.29-r2 and alsa-lib-1.1.8.

Looking at the code, I see they do something similar to the suggestion
made in https://stackoverflow.com/a/32672476.

It would appear this kludge no longer works. Down later the suggestion
was to tweak the -std=XXX flag passed to gcc. After unsuccessfully
trying to set this in CFLAGS, I got things compiling with this:

diff --git a/CMakeLists.txt b/CMakeLists.txt
index 639fdc711..2d1c744f2 100644

cairo-dock-plug-ins now build. I'm just trying them out to see if there
are any ill effects from doing the above hack.

2019-12-22 Thread Luke Jones
Confirming for newer model:

DMI: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Zephyrus S GX502GW_GX502GW/GX502GW, BIOS
GX502GW.306 09/25/2019

Same key issue as this:
- F5 (fan overboost, that's ok if it doesn't work)
- F6 (don't know what it is)
- F7 (screen brightness down)
- F8 (screen brightness up)
- F10 (disable touchpad)
- F11 (screen sleep)
- F12 (airplane mode)
- keyboard arrow up (brightness keyboard light up)
- keyboard arrow down (brightness keyboard light down)

And also some shortcut buttons above F1-F4:
- disable mic button
- rog button (it's ok if it doesn't work, but if works we can change it to
something?)

[Bug 1857276] [NEW] Using Mod1 as modifier triggers accelerator keys automatically

2019-12-22 Thread Mikaël Francoeur
Public bug reported:

1) Release: Ubuntu 16.04.04 LTS

2) Package x11-xkb-utils 7.7+2

3) In xkb, when using Mod1 (bound by default to left Alt and right Alt)
to trigger a shift level, typing in a dialog box should not trigger
accelerator shortcuts.

4) When using Mod1 in a xkb type, accelerator keys are triggered by
default. So when logging in, the "o" in my password triggers the "OK"
button, which forces me to use an alternate keyboard layout to enter my
password. Same happens, for example, when using the screenshot tool,
typing "s" triggers the "Take Screenshot" button.

Attached is the type file causing the issue. The offending type is
"SIX_LEVEL", and the issue appears when I use Mod1 as the modifier for
any shift level. I don't have this issue on my other layout (us).

[Bug 1856370] Re: GPU has fallen off the bus

2019-12-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think this bug should be used two track two different issues.
This bug should be about the original problem:

"Every time I suspend my laptop, after I resume it, a black screen shows
with the error message - GPU has fallen off the bus"

** Summary changed:

- GPU has fallen off the bus
+ Black screen with message "GPU has fallen off the bus" after resuming from
suspend

** Summary changed:

- Black screen with message "GPU has fallen off the bus" after resuming from
suspend
+ [nvidia] Black screen with message "GPU has fallen off the bus" after
resuming from suspend

[Bug 1853199] Re: Ctrl + c (copy) anywhere some times crashes gnome session

2019-12-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. That's definitely a crash and sounds related to memory
corruption:

Dec 21 19:24:09 tv systemd[3388]: gnome-shell-x11.service: Main process exited,
code=dumped, status=7/BUS
Dec 21 19:24:09 tv systemd[3388]: gnome-shell-x11.service: Failed with result
'core-dump'.

But unfortunately it does not include a stack trace for some reason so
isn't usable. Maybe this is a problem with errors.ubuntu.com?

[Bug 1002978] Re: [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

2019-12-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug should stay closed due to:

 * its age and relevance to current code;
 * lack of apport information; and
 * the problem and the solution being hardware-specific.

To help us better understand the current problems people are facing,
please open new bugs by running:

[Bug 1857271] [NEW] Focal 440.44-0ubuntu1 PRIME Sync not working

2019-12-22 Thread Berg Lloyd-Haig
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 19.04 (Disco)
Linux 5.4.6-050406-generic
linux-firmware-1.184
mutter-3.32.2+git20190711-2ubuntu1~19.04.1

nvidia-driver-440:
  Installed: 440.44-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 440.44-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 440.44-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu focal/main
amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I've noticed screen tearing with the nvidia 440 driver on 5.4.x kernels.
Typically, this is resolved by setting the xrandr option 'PRIME
Synchronization' to '1', however, doing so with the above combination
results in never being enabled.

$ xrandr --output eDP-1-1 --set 'PRIME Synchronization' '1'
$ xrandr --verbose | grep PRIME
PRIME Synchronization: 0
PRIME Synchronization: 1
PRIME Synchronization: 1
PRIME Synchronization: 1

Reverting to Linux 5.0.0-37-generic resolve the issue, so I figured I'd
raise it here first, however, it seems like a potential kernel
regression issue if the only thing I'm changing is indeed the kernel
version. Your input would be appreciated. I tried to figure out how to
post a bug on the PPA, however, it seems bug creation is disabled on
that PPA, so I ended up here.

I've been testing newer kernel versions to get fixes for other problems
with my hardware. Due to another package dependency, I'm stuck on disco
for some pulseaudio bluetooth codec support, so I've been pushing
forward the kernel, firmware and nvidia driver versions to get the other
driver fixes. I realise this is not ideal.

[Bug 1796081] Re: dpkg frontend locking

2019-12-22 Thread Jarno Suni
I do not see why we need this new frontend lock. If there are higher
level frontends, they may have to do some locking before calling apt,
but they would have to release the locks before calling apt, and then
there is race condition. Why not just use the old dpkg lock and make the
package managers ignore the lock, if there is DPKG_LOCKED in
environment?

[Bug 1753183] Re: Not able to do quick calculation via GNOME Activities

2019-12-22 Thread Martin
This is still an issue in 19.10. Has there been any progress? Also, is
there any explanation anywhere about why gnome-calculator is a snap and
not a deb? I have to imagine fixing both this issue and the launch time
issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
calculator/+bug/1797734) are hard to fix and thus won't be fixed soon,
and both would be solved if gnome-calculator wasn't a snap.

I see quick access to a calculator as a vital feature in modern
operating systems (there's a reason why Windows, iOS, macOS, upstream
GNOME, etc. has it built in to their search). It's a shame that it has
been broken in Ubuntu for over one and a half years for such a seemingly
trivial reason.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

Normally at a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

A prior suggestion asked for illustrations on what is wrong, and how it
could be improved. This would be is an appropriate way of describing
what is wrong, and how results could be better achieved.

Thanks!

[Bug 1857257] [NEW] linux-image-5.0.0-35-generic breaks checkpointing of container

2019-12-22 Thread Adrian
Public bug reported:

Trying to checkpoint a container (docker/podman) on 18.04 fails starting
with linux-image-5.0.0-35-generic. We (CRIU upstream) see this in Travis
starting a few weeks ago. Manually testing it locally shows that linux-
image-5.0.0-32-generic still works and linux-image-5.0.0-35-generic does
not longer work. It seems to be overlayfs related, at least that is what
we believe. The CRIU error message we see is:

(00.170944) Error (criu/files-reg.c:1277): Can't lookup mount=410 for fd=-3
path=/bin/busybox
(00.170987) Error (criu/cr-dump.c:1246): Collect mappings (pid: 1637) failed
with -1

We have not seen this only in Travis, but also multiple CRIU users reported
that bug already. Currently we have to tell them to downgrade the kernel.

I also able to reproduce it with linux-image-5.3.0-24-generic. Staying
on the 4.18.0 kernel series does not show this error. 4.18.0-25-generic
works without problems.

See also https://github.com/checkpoint-restore/criu/issues/860

One of the possible explanations from our side include:

"Looks like we have the same as for st_dev now with mnt_id, that is bad,
because we can't find on which mount to open the file if kernel hides
these information from us."

Running on the upstream 5.5.0-rc1 kernel does not show this error.
