[Bug 1852935] Re: In Ubuntu Budgie, QT apps take a long time to open

2020-01-11 Thread Opimus Honos
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1851160 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851160

Actually... I noticed that the first time I start kate with
QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=cleanlooks (which is not supposed to use GTK2) it
also takes 30 seconds. The consequent times are instant.

So I wouldn't be so sure that GTK2 is the culprit.

I'll continue the investigation in my idle cycles.

On Ubuntu 20.04 (development branch), as of today, Additional Drivers
(software-properties-gtk 0.98.6) reports that the device "Intel

However the device is working correctly:

- * lsmod | grep iwlwifi, lspci -v, lshw, dmesg | grep iwlwifi all show
- that its driver iwlwifi is in use
- * ls /lib/firmware/*9260* show that the appropriate firmware files are

And I am indeed writing this bug report connected to an ac (5 GHz) wifi

properties-gtk shouldn't report the device as not working and suggest
manually installing a driver. Not sure why it says so?

[Bug 1859302] Re: Ubuntu 18.04.3 Freezes Randomly, amd radeon

2020-01-11 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1859302/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Artem: I'm sorry that nobody reacted on your bug report - though I can
not help directly. As you noted this is likely the same issue as bug
1710968 you should close it as such. Keeping duplicate bug reports
around does not help anyone. Actually the chance of getting a reaction
is higher if you keep the communication in one place.

However there is something you do to get this fixed:
1. Try davfs2 1.5.5 (F31 though) which Filipe Rosset created as a response to
bug 1736871.

2. The other reporter indicated that unmounting still does not work. If you
experience the same issue this is how you can help:
   - file a *support* ticket upstream:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/support/?group=davfs2
   - once upstream has confirmed the issue/has committed a fix please ask
upstream to release a new version and get back to use so we can push a new
version to Fedora.

Unfortunately Fedora maintainers often do not have the time to debug
upstream bugs (though I can't speak for Filipe). I hope you can
understand that most of us would like to do more but this is only a
volunteer activity...

Thank you for helping Fedora :-)

But https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/hwmon/nct6683.rst gave me

[Bug 1855943] Re: net-snmp merge for focal (v5.8)

2020-01-11 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Unsure if the "sed" changing /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf is intermittent or
not. It definitely has been triggered during autopkgtest AND reason was
that snmpd.conf wasn't changed before autopkgtests to run. Nevertheless,
tests are passing now, pyagentx has moved on from excuses and pcs is
being fixed because of other reason (https://bugs.launchpad.net/auto-

[Bug 1859302] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04.3 Freezes Randomly, amd radeon

2020-01-11 Thread Chris Studstill
Public bug reported:

I am brand new to Linux.
Dual booting with windows 10. No problems on that end.
I have put hours into this problem already, cannot find anything that works.
Mouse, screen, everything freezes or only screen and starts to cycle on and
off.
Have been able to get almost a whole day out of it once, but then just now it
happened in the middle of trying to reinstall.

Installing the amdgpu-pro caused it to no longer get past the boot,
even, so the reinstall was to try and just start over.

[Bug 1829620] Re: intel-microcode on ASUS makes kernel stuck during loading initramfs on bionic-updates, bionic-security

2020-01-11 Thread Jacob
Dell XPS5510 with i7-6820HQ has exactly the same issue on Ubuntu 19.10 after
fresh install, apt-update && apt-upgrade && reboot, gives purple screen / stuck

Switching kernel works once but next reboot it's stuck again.

Update of BIOS via built in one time setup menu and USB stick seems to
have solved the issue. Not working bios version was 5.2.something and
working BIOS version is 1.13.1.

[Bug 1760818] Re: gedit and gnome-calculator transparency/graphics corruption issue when GTK_IM_MODULE=xim is set

I have just been hit with this on a new install of 18.04 from a CD I had
to do because of a hard drive change and full restore. Initially text
editor worked well, but one of the applications I added, or a software
update, seems to have caused the transparency. The workaround suggested
by Heiko L is impossible for me to implement as my text editor/gedit has
a transparent background and I cannot see what I am doing.

[Bug 1859295] [NEW] zoneminder 1.32.3-2build1 does not work with MySQL 8

2020-01-11 Thread Joseph Yasi
Public bug reported:

The zoneminder 1.32.3-2 package was rebuilt against MySQL for eoan.
However, zoneminder 1.32.3 is incompatible with MySQL 8. The database
uses several reserved keywords as table and column names that are not
escaped with backticks in php, perl and C++ code in the project.
Reserved keywords include Function, Groups and System. It also uses the
MySQL password command which is no longer available in MySQL.

It doesn't look like the package was tested after doing the rebuild
against MySQL 8.

I've backported a patch to 1.32.3 from upstream git master. I'm not sure
it's complete, but it works for my use cases.

[Bug 1859294] [NEW] Cannot type capital letters with accents: pressing Shift cancels the accent key action

2020-01-11 Thread indigocat
Public bug reported:

This is a weird quirk:

When typing Spanish accented capital letters, one presses the Accent key
(') and then the letter (e.g. "a"), so the sequence " ' + a " results in
"á".

Expected: Pressing Accent + Letter = Accented Letter.

What happens: When one presses Accent + Shift + letter, Shift cancels
the Accent action (with an audible system alert if activated).

It is possible, however, to press Caps Lock and do Accent + letter, with
the expected result (an accented letter).

This only happens within Chromium. It is possible to press Accent +
Letter and get the accented letter anywhere else.

[Bug 1859293] Re: davfs2 umount.davfs crashes when compiled with gcc 9

2020-01-11 Thread Joseph Yasi
Upstream fix:
http://cvs.savannah.nongnu.org/viewvc/davfs2/davfs2/src/umount_davfs.c?r1=1.2.4.6&r2=1.2.4.7

This is fixed in upstream davfs2 1.5.6. A version bump will fix this
package.

[Bug 1858665] Re: clock-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in claim_op()

2020-01-11 Thread Michael Dooley
This morning, January 11, 2020, after opening the laptop lid and
browsing several sites, I used Synaptic Package Manager to update MATE
20.04 5.4.0-9 generic and the clock-applet crashed before the update had
finished. Perhaps Synaptic is somehow the source of this problem.

[Bug 1859293] [NEW] davfs2 umount.davfs crashes when compiled with gcc 9

2020-01-11 Thread Joseph Yasi
Public bug reported:

davfs2 uses the fscanf format string "%a[0-9]". "%a" is part of C89, but
not C99, and tells fscanf to do the string allocation.

The fscanf man page states:
Note that the a modifier is not available if the program is compiled with
gcc -std=c99 or gcc -D_ISOC99_SOURCE (unless _GNU_SOURCE is also specified), in
which case the a is interpreted as a specifier for floating-point numbers (see
above).

Support for the m modifier was added to glibc starting with version 2.7,
and new programs should use that modifier instead of a.

Switching the a to an m prevents the crash.

** Affects: davfs2 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: "Fix crash in umount due to fscanf format"

That seems to be the cause, as also noted in Comment 19.
Comment 17 confirmed even from 3.3.4 so not clear why this was marked

[Bug 1852935] Re: In Ubuntu Budgie, QT apps take a long time to open

2020-01-11 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1851160 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851160

Thanks for the analysis.

I still cannot reproduce this, even on an installed system (Ubuntu
Budgie 19.10 in Virtualbox). For me the relevant functions are called,
but there is no delay. I guess there is some race condition here that is
hard to catch.

The code on top of your stacktrace just tries to register with the
D-Bus, i.e. send a hello message. I don’t see why this may fail — maybe
because the code was called while ibus has been doing its own D-Bus
stuff?

Code that sets the timeout is in
g_dbus_connection_send_message_with_reply_unlocked function:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/blob/2.62.1/gio/gdbusconnection.c#L1909
(check lines 1926 and 1959-1960). That is a mature code so I don’t think
it may be buggy.

However I see that there is a glib 2.62.2-2~ubuntu19.10.1 upload in
eoan-proposed that has some fixes related to ibus authentication. Can
you please check if it fixes the issue? See this page for instructions
how to enable proposed: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed.

Anyway, as I said earlier, GTK 2 is deprecated and I do not want to
spend much time on bugs related to it. Patches are welcome however I
still think it is an issue deeper in the stack, in GTK 2 itself or in
ibus. As a workaround I think you can remove ibus-gtk package or
qt5-gtk2-platformtheme.

[Bug 1854895] Re: touchpad stopped working after the update

2020-01-11 Thread BenS
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1854798 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1854798

I had the same problem with linux-image-4.15.0-72 on a Dell XPS-12 (9Q33 model).
The temporary fix I applied (to ensure a working kernel wasn't deleted
automaticall) was

  sudo apt-mark hold linux-image-4.15.0-72-generic

and I uninstalled linux-image-generic.

linux-image-4.15.0-74-generic has been released and the touchpad WORKS
fine for me now.

  sudo apt-mark unhold linux-image-4.15.0-72-generic
  sudo apt update
  sudo apt install linux-image-generic

ensured the 4.15.0-74 kernel, linux-modules and linux-modules-extra were
installed for 4.15.0-74. You may or may not want to continue holding
the previous known working kernel version.

Note: When testing linux-image-4.15.0-74-generic I just installed it and
linux-modules, but my WiFi also requires linux-modules-extra.

I have the same problem that is initially solved in the same way.
Closing the laptop and opening it again seems to restore sound. Running
Ubuntu Studio v19.10 amd64 on a brand new, just bought HP Pavilion

[Bug 1859290] [NEW] Virtualbox no usb devices

2020-01-11 Thread Jason Straight
Public bug reported:

With virtualbox 6.1 on 20.04 (Whether from repos, or from oracle) usb
devices are not recognized by a user who has been added to vboxusers
group.

I noticed the ubuntu package does not create udev rules file, but oracle
package does, yet they both have the same behavior anyway, and do not
seem to change permissions on newly added usb devices, nor create the
device files with vboxuser group permissions.

Running as root allows access to usb devices, so it seems to be a
permissions issue.

[Bug 1859288] [NEW] network-manager does not handle wired connections without netplan

2020-01-11 Thread Esokrates
Public bug reported:

Take a fresh installation of Ubuntu and remove the package netplan.io.
Now you will observe, that network-manager no longer detects wired connections.

Installing ifupdown instead of netplan does not help this situation.

In debian sid networkmanager detects the wired connections, without
netplan or ifupdown!

So it seems to me something is wrong with ubuntu packages /
configuration.

Also installing netplan.io is not sufficient for networkmanager to
detect wired connections again, the config file /etc/netplan/01-network-
manager-all.yaml does have to contain the following lines:

# Let NetworkManager manage all devices on this system
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: NetworkManager

Tested an XPS 13 9360 with both DA200 Adapter for LAN connection and
Android USB tethering connection, both not configured automatically by
networkmanager without netplan, while it works perfectly fine in Debian.

Tested with Ubuntu 19.10 and Ubuntu 20.04.

[Bug 1859289] [NEW] network-manager keeps asking for wifi password can't connect to any wifi

2020-01-11 Thread Rip
Public bug reported:

network-manager keeps asking for wifi password can't connect to any wifi

I've experienced this problem since last month on the current kernel and
the one before that. The only solution I could find through trial and
error is to switch to a non-default kernel (like lowlatency) but that of
course breaks a bunch of other stuff. Also, network USB tethering won't
work on the generic kernel for some reason, and again a non-default
kernel solves the issue.

A google search for "ubuntu keeps asking for wifi password" shows that
this problem is quite common. Hopefully this will get fixed cause if you
can't use wifi you can't use your computer.

[Bug 1859287] [NEW] iwlwifi broken for Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i with 5.4/20.04

2020-01-11 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hi there,

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 7390 2-in-1
Built-in wireless: Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i 160MHz

iwlwifi worked fine with 19.10 but breaks when upgrading to 20.04.
Firmware crashes after loading and interface doesn't show up.

This is with:
linux-image-5.4.0-9-generic 5.4.0-9.12
linux-firmware 1.184

I've noticed the driver was trying to load a more recent firmware:
Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-Qu-b0-hr-b0-50.ucode failed with error -2

I've downloaded this file from upstream iwlwifi firmware git and tried
unloading/reloading iwlwifi. Driver crashes as well, but with a
different error code.

Best,
- LM

[Bug 1858270] Re: "ubuntu upgrade available" popup "yes upgrade now" does nothing

2020-01-11 Thread Bruno Maximilian Voss
I was helped on #ubuntu on irc, executing "do-release-upgrade" in bash
does the trick.

But

There was no feedback or error or log saying that my shell was the
issue. I wasn't aware that changing my shell could have this effect.

So I would still consider this 'bad behavior' and a bug.

[Bug 1758545] Re: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Uncorrected (Non-Fatal), type=Transaction Layer

2020-01-11 Thread Naël
I can also report the same behavior, on a Clevo laptop running Ubuntu
20.04 (development version), kernel 5.3.0-24. Clevo does not currently
provide BIOS updates for this model, and it is unlikely that they ever
will.

The error is as reported by the OP, and repeats several times per second
on the standard error, which makes it impossible to use virtual consoles
and terminals:

[timestamp] pcieport :00:1d.4: AER: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Uncorrected
(Non-Fatal), type=Transaction Layer, (Requester ID)
[timestamp] pcieport :00:1d.4: AER: device [8086:9db4] error
status/mask=0010/0001
[timestamp] pcieport :00:1d.4: AER:[20] UnsupReq (First)
[timestamp] pcieport :00:1d.4: AER: TLP Header: 3400 0410
 80008000

I have followed the explanation given here for a very similar PCI
Express bus error:

  https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/369090

to give the option pci=nommconf to the kernel, in order to disable
memory-mapping the configuration space of the PCI device, and instead
use the original method of accessing this space through I/O ports, if I
understand correctly. This option can be given at startup (press E in
GRUB) and then in /etc/default/grub for subsequent boots
(GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pci=nommconf").

The option works for me in working around the issue, and can hopefully
work for other users whose hardware won't be supported with a BIOS
update.

>From what I understand, the problem could come from the particular PCI
Express device (an Intel PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, 760p Series, according to
lshw), from the PCI Express root controller, or from the interaction
between them.
