I had the same problem. Sunk over a day into trying to figure it out. I'm taking no chances: I removed evolution. I might reinstall it sometime when I am no under such a crunch. What I find really frustrating is that I would expect the OOM (Out of Memory) killer to recognize that the process had consumed 14 GBytes of virtual memory and kill it, but it didn't. I would argue that if a user space process that can bring a system to its knees, then there is something else wrong with the system. The device doesn't have to remain connected, as long as there are BLE devices near by broadcasting LE ADV. This can be fixed by updating intel/ibt-17-16-1.sfi from upstream commit https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux- firmware.git/commit/?id=b6427bf4faae9b8864e303d88c3ec8d0df017dac. Steps to reproduce: 1. pair with BLE device and turn off the device. It should be listed as Disconnected in System Bluetooth settings. Close the settings app as well. 2. run `sudo btmon -t` in the background, make sure LE ADV packets pop up. 3. run `sudo btmon -t` on another host to make sure there are LE ADV packets during the suspend period. 3. trigger system deep suspend (S3) on DUT. 4. wait for around 1 minutes (depending on the surrounding environment) and see if the DUT is resumed unsolicitedly. Expects: DUT only resumes when power button pressed or on other explicit requests. [Bug 1860954] [NEW] b43 WiFi monitor mode doesn't work with BCM4321 card
Public bug reported: My Inspiron 6400 laptop has a Dell Wireless 1500 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card with BCM4321 chip. I was using airmon-ng from aircrack-ng to enter monitor mode. It claims the chipset is "non-mac80211 device? (report this!)" but I think that's incorrect information and only cosmetic. It does create the monitor device. Then I was using Wireshark to capture packets from that device. I was only getting beacon, probe request and probe response packets, despite knowing that there was data on the network. As a workaround, it is possible to properly monitor by using a different driver, from the broadcom-sta-dkms package. After installing that package and rebooting, I couldn't connect to my wireless network anymore, but I could "echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/brcm_monitor0" to create a prism0 device. Changing channels was a problem, maybe requiring a change on the associated non-monitor device before enabling the monitor. But capture on prism0 worked great. I was getting all kinds of packets and was able to decrypt data in Wireshark after enabling "Assume packets have FCS". Even though I couldn't connect to my network, I could capture and decrypt its traffic. Rebooting seems required for switching from b43 to wl drivers, because otherwise the wl driver doesn't start properly. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future users from hitting the same bug. You seem to need support more than have issues with a bug You appear to be using out-dated disco (19.04) packages (https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all&arch=any&searchon=names&keywords=python2.7), and haven't described why or how this applies. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). I believe a Support site would be more appropriate, eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu (this bug report can be converted to a question (which is aimed at support)). You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709 I'm going to mark this bug incomplete, as it appears as if you haven't followed the normal support procedures first. If however you believe I'm in error, please leave a comment with details and change the status back to "New". ** Changed in: qt4-x11 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860947 Title: package libqt4-sql:amd64 4:4.8.7+dfsg-7ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting a removal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qt4-x11/+bug/1860947/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Right now in 19.10, /lib/systemd/system/fstrim.service runs /sbin/fstrim --fstab --verbose --quiet , which doesn't cause the service to report these errors. [Bug 1860938] [NEW] Sound interruptions during high radeon OpenGL load
Public bug reported: On my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with Mobility Radeon X1400 and built in Intel HDA audio with STAC9200 codec, audio is normally perfect. Even with 100% load on both CPU cores audio is perfect. However, while playing high resolution video, audio has many tiny regular interruptions which can be like crackles or micro stuttering. This happens when playing 1080p YouTube video in Chrome or 1080p video via VLC using the OpenGL output. Other high GPU load, like scrolling Google Maps around a lot in Chrome, can also cause these interruptions. They don't only affect the application causing graphical load, but also affect other applications playing audio, like mpg123. I've changed bdl_pos_adj, position_fix and enable_msi parameters of the snd_hda_intel module. Maybe bdl_pos_adj=64 and position_fix=1 makes it a bit better, but I'm not certain and it's certainly still not okay. I tried interrupt priorities as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/rtirq and that didn't help. Changing latency via setpci seems not applicable because this laptop uses PCI Express. Not running PulseAudio and using ALSA instead doesn't help. Running a bare-bones X configuration with twm doesn't help. Configuring VLC to use XVideo video output makes audio perfect with the same video which was causing these interruptions when using OpenGL video output. [Bug 1860822] Re: ptrace fails with yama/ptrace_scope=0
Seth, thank you kindly for your prompt and clear answer. I modified server.c and confirm that gdb can now attach to the child process. Although prctl(PR_SET_DUMPABLE, 1) has no effect (and returns 0!) when called before resetting privileges, it works after the gid has been reset to the debugging process's gid. I see where it's documented now. PR_SET_DUMPABLE is not mentioned in /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf, but ptrace_scope in procfs(5) refers us to ptrace(2), which says, under PTRACE_ATTACH, "Processes that are not dumpable ... can not be attached via ptrace(2) PTRACE_ATTACH." The elided text refers to prctl(2), wherein the description of PR_SET_DUMPABLE describes how processes come to have their dumpable flag reset to 0. It's all there if you know where to look. Yet that's a bit thin, isn't it? I missed it, and my question on SO failed to elicit any pointer to PR_SET_DUMPABLE. IMO the gdb message in response to failing to attach is too wordy and basic. The focus on ptrace is almost misdirection, insofar as PTRACE_ATTACH is controlled by the union of ptrace_scope and the dumpable flag. I'm not sure what to suggest. A note in the gdb man page would be good. Maybe best would a file in /usr/share/doc/linux-doc describing debugging, dumpability, and ptrace from a programmer's point of view. ISTM one shouldn't have to understand the ptrace(2) syscall to use gdb on running processes.
