[Bug 1853707] Re: Whole system stopped responding because of single program's fault - no way out, had to force power off
This ticket is a cross post. It is already posted in LibreCAD issues: https://github.com/LibreCAD/LibreCAD/issues/1161. This bug is indeed caused by LibreCAD or more exactly by libdxfrw, the DXF/DWG library it uses. DWG support in libdxfrw is very rudimentary and therefor a warning message appear when opening a DWG file in LibreCAD. This warning states, that this could happen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1853707 Title: Whole system stopped responding because of single program's fault - no way out, had to force power off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/librecad-dev/+bug/1853707/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was trying to reproduce this with upgrades from Eoan and from a bunch of older Focal containers I had around - all with qemu-system-common and qemu-utils installed before upgrade. None of them hit the same bug. So either it is not as common to be hit as I was afraid - or I'm cursed by not seeing it but the rest of the world will. [Bug 1862300] Re: "systemctl kexec" reboots
Turns out, systemd's shutdown implementation fork/execs the kexec binary from kexec-tools; this is missing from the /run/initramfs finalrd. systemd then falls through to reboot: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/a859abf062cef1511e4879c4ee39c6036ebeaec8/src/shutdown/shutdown.c#L557 One way to fix it might be for finalrd to "copy_exec /sbin/kexec" if it exists. Alternatively, the kexec-tools package might ship a finalrd hook instead. ** Also affects: finalrd Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Project changed: finalrd => kexec-tools (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862300 Title: "systemctl kexec" reboots To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/finalrd/+bug/1862300/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1862300] [NEW] "systemctl kexec" reboots
Public bug reported: After the introduction of finalrd, "systemctl kexec" (with a kernel preloaded by "kexec -l ...") no longer kexec()s -- it reboots instead. Can be reproduced for example using a livecd (say, xubuntu-18.04 -desktop-amd64.iso): sudo -i apt-get update apt-get install kexec-tools finalrd systemctl start finalrd # optional kexec -l /cdrom/casper/vmlinuz systemctl kexec Expected results: the system kexec's into the kernel and panics (due to lack of /init, since we haven't given it an initrd). Actual results: the system reboots (e.g. the livecd's bootloader menu runs). If we don't install "finalrd" above, kexec works normally. ** Affects: finalrd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: kexec-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862300 Title: "systemctl kexec" reboots To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/finalrd/+bug/1862300/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862290 Title: Xorg restarts when locked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1862290/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1862264] Re: Browsing smb share is painfully slow
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1862264/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location
@foresto You've done a good job of expressing my frustration with both the snap software, and the way it's being rolled out too. Snap still 'smells' like experimental software to me - not a sold base for building an infrastructure upon. This bug's namespace squatting in the home folder is the most egregious symptom, but let's not forget the horrors of running 'df' and 'fdisk -l' with snapd active! The pollution of home-folder backups is another that affects me (please let's not forget that not everybody has American- levels of band width and storage). If we are sticking with snapd, can we please keep it entirely optional until it has matured a little more? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575053 Title: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1575053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1742941] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla
--- Comment From danie...@au1.ibm.com 2020-02-06 22:14 EDT--- Where we are up to is there is a small amount of progress in the zlib-devel (https://zlib.net/mailman/listinfo/zlib-devel_madler.net) however nothing explicit on or off list about merging arch specific patches (from any architecture vendor). At the request of the community and other vendors, we have added explicit crc32 tests to the zlib and these have been pushed to that upstream PR. https://github.com/madler/zlib/pull/335 Since the patch on this bug report, the code has been changed from ASM to C (to increase the portability ), conformed closer to an upstream style as far a location and interfaces, and improved the test suite as mentioned. The zlib1g-dev package in focal (https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal /zlib1g-dev) still uses configure && make which the upstream PR patches correctly (notably I haven't patched CMakefiles as of today). Building `make crc32_test && ./crc32_test` as a test can be done quickly in the package build process to validate the accuracy. We hope this prudence and validation in the upstream PR https://github.com/madler/zlib/pull/335 can be accepted for the ubuntu-20.04 LTS release of the zlib package while we continue to work with upstream on maintenance. [Bug 1856516] Re: Excessive memory usage by gnome-shell in 19.10
I wonder if this is just the leftover smaller leaks we didn't manage to totally fix in bug 1815550. To test that we'd probably need you to exclude gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons for a while. Sorry I don't have suggestions for how to do that cleanly right now :/ Maybe just check to see if this is another one related to zsh. [Bug 1834771] Re: No HDMI-audio after kernel 4.15.-0.50
This is the thread about this bug from the alsa maillist: https://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa- devel/2019-November/158336.html And this issue will be fixed if radeon, nouveau and amdgpu drivers support audio component. Now the amdgpu driver already supported audio component from kernel-5.4, so if your machine is driven by amdgpu driver (graphic card driver), you could test 5.4 kernel or ubuntu focal kernel (the kernel for 20.04). Please check amdgpu driver is in-tree driver instead of amdgpu-pro driver (proprietary driver). For unload/reload the HD-audio driver mentioned that thread, I thought it should be (but it failed when I ran alsa unload/force-unload) localhost:~$ alsa --help Usage: /sbin/alsa {unload|reload|force-unload|force-reload|suspend|resume} If someone has any idea or any log, please reply to the thread alsa- devel/2019-November/158336.html -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1834771 Title: No HDMI-audio after kernel 4.15.-0.50 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1834771/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1862284] [NEW] Freeipa/fontawesome directory mis-configured on ubuntu
Public bug reported: Brand new fresh install of FreeIPA on Ubuntu 19.10 This condition is not an issue when I build FreeIPA on RPM-based distros, so it's localized to Ubuntu builds. The web UI of FreeIPA displays broken icons by default, making it not only "fugly" but also difficult to navigate and use properly. After much debugging, I discovered that the pathnames of the package are different on Ubuntu -vs- on RPM based distros...so the FreeIPA application is searching for fontawesome code in the wrong location. Here's the super simple fix...but IMHO it shouldn't require one to spend a couple hours digging through web UI code and calls to have to sort out why the application and distro package locations don't jive. = cd /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ ln -s font-awesome fontawesome = Perhaps this is a fontawesome package maintainer concern? Why is it in a different location on Ubuntu vs other distros? or why is FreeIPA built to look in the wrong location for these libs? ** Affects: freeipa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862284 Title: Freeipa/fontawesome directory mis-configured on ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freeipa/+bug/1862284/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1862225] Re: the laptop freeze
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2.
