[Bug 1311056] Re: [SRU] apt-add-repository adds duplicate commented/disabled source lines

2020-02-12 Thread Dave Jones
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==

  Under most circumstances, the impact is minimal (a few extra redundant
  comment lines in apt sources. However, if users are automating source
  removal / addition on a machine (as in comment 11), there is the
  potential to wind up with an excessively large (and thus slow to parse)
  apt sources configuration.
+
+ Test packages for the supported releases are available from the
+ following PPA:
+
+ https://launchpad.net/~waveform/+archive/ubuntu/python-apt
+
+ Built from the source which can be found in the following branches:
+
+ https://code.launchpad.net/~waveform/ubuntu/+source/python-apt/+git
+ /python-apt/+ref/sru-dupe-ppa-xenial
+
+ https://code.launchpad.net/~waveform/ubuntu/+source/python-apt/+git
+ /python-apt/+ref/sru-dupe-ppa-bionic
+
+ https://code.launchpad.net/~waveform/ubuntu/+source/python-apt/+git
+ /python-apt/+ref/sru-dupe-ppa-eoan

  Test Case
  =

  * sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:deadsnakes/ppa
  * cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deadsnakes*.list
  * Note the presence of one uncommented "deb" line, and one commented
"deb-src" line
  * sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:deadsnakes/ppa
  * cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deadsnakes*.list
  * Note the uncommented "deb" line is still there but the commented "deb-src"
line has now been duplicated
  * sudo add-apt-repository ppa:waveform/python-apt
  * sudo apt upgrade # update python-apt to fixed version
  * sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:deadsnakes/ppa
  * cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deadsnakes*.list
  * Note there has been no further duplication of the commented "deb-src" line

  Regression Potential

  Minimal; test cases have been added to cover the duplication case, and
  to cover the enabling of sources (which was not covered by existing
  tests, but was part of the code altered to fix the duplication case),
  and insertion of sources at a position (again, not covered by existing
  tests but modified as part of the fix). The test case has been used
  successfully on all targeted releases (xenial, bionic, and eoan).

[Bug 1854789] Re: Hard lockup using 5.3.0.24.28 from proposed PPA on focal

2020-02-12 Thread Dan Watkins
I've been using the mainline kernel (5.4.5, specifically) for a few
weeks with no instability; I switched back to the -proposed kernel ~a
week ago and I've since seen this issue recur. The version I saw this
recur on was 5.4.0-13-generic (and I'm now on -14 as a result of the
forced reboot).

Is there anything more I can do to assist in addressing this issue?

[Bug 1853200] Re: cpu features hle and rtm disabled for security are present in /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map.xml

2020-02-12 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I don't know what the way forward is to resolve this issue. While
upstream qemu has added some new CPU models, "Skylake-Client-noTSX-
IBRS", "Skylake-Server-noTSX-IBRS", etc, libvirt has not. If I do add
these to libvirt, we will need to carry them forward as a delta to
upstream possibly forever.

Even adding those new CPU models is just a workaround that makes
manually changing the CPU model easier to do, but does not present a
solution for this issue. There is no automatic way to fix this issue
that wouldn't cause migration failures.

[Bug 1862969] [NEW] On SystemReboot wifi failed to connect on tplink wifi adapter

2020-02-12 Thread FeaturizSudhakar
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 19.10 64bit for my PC. For network/wifi I'm using TP-
Link wifi adapter.

My network works only when I do a fresh start (That is completely shutdown and
start).
But network connection fails to connect to my wifi on REBOOT(on system software
updates , etc..).

After reboot:
1. I can see my mobile device(wifi service providing) name in the list at WIFI
SETTINGS -> VISIBLE NETWORKS.
2. BUT IT FAILS TO CONNECT. It tries many times and finally says , CANT CONNECT.

I searched GOOGLE, UBUNTU FORMS, but I failed to find the solution.

As per now solution:
After reboot , I have to shutdown pc again and do a boot. To make wifi connect.

[Bug 1858810] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"

2020-02-12 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Based on comments #20 to #23 in bug 1853369, I think the root cause for
Joseph's device is a regression in intel-microcode package. While I
don't have enough info to determine whether bug 1853369 actually shares
the same root cause, the duplication relationship is removed so that I
can work on this issue separately first.

there is no point in uploading it without another fix or point release
as its related to package upgrade.

** Changed in: openvswitch (Ubuntu Bionic)
 Assignee: (unassigned) => James Page (james-page)

** Description changed:

- When the openvswitch-switch package is upgraded, the various daemons get
- restarted multiple times (see maintainer script below):
+ [Impact]
+ OVS daemons are restarted multiple times on package upgrade resulting in a
protracted period of network pause for OVS management network objects due to
multiple restarts.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Upgrade openvswitch-switch package/dpkg-reconfigure openvswitch-swithc
+ Examine systemd journal - ovsdb-server and ovs-vswitchd get restarted
multiple times in quick session
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low - Ubuntu has had this fix in packaging since Disco with no reported
adverse effects.
+
+ [Original Bug Report]
+ When the openvswitch-switch package is upgraded, the various daemons get
restarted multiple times (see maintainer script below):

[Bug 1853357] Re: display (whole computer?) hangs when I attempt to use DisplayLink with Wayland

2020-02-12 Thread Ppaalanen
I tested with a Dell D3100 dock and two monitors connected to the dock
via HDMI in addition to laptop built-in screen. I did this on Ubuntu
19.10 with the libmutter fix from eoan-proposed (libmutter-5-0 package
version 3.34.3-1ubuntu1~19.10.1).

I tried unplugging and hotplugging each HDMI cable individually and
together. I tried hotplugging and unplugging the dock itself (USB). I
tried booting with the dock connected, and booting with the dock
disconnected then hotplugged.

With all three monitors on, I left one glxgears running on one
DisplayLink output and the laptop screen each, and a terminal printing
the fps on the other DL output for 10 minutes. Then I changed the
refresh rate of one DL output to 50 Hz and the other DL output to 75 Hz,
confirmed from the monitors themselves to actually run with those
refresh rates, and left things running for a couple of minutes more.
(Everything defaulted to 60 Hz before.)

I was unable to reproduce any kind of freeze.

However, I did notice that with three monitors, gnome-control-center
Display settings is crash-happy if any monitor was disabled. But that is
off-topic here, because even that did not cause anything to freeze.

I did also observe the "outdated content" issue I referred to in my
earlier comment here. That should be fixed in EVDI kernel module once
DisplayLink releases an update.

2020-02-12 Thread Dave Jones
@juergh given the Pi 3A+, 3B+, and 4B share the same wifi chipset (but
not the 3B) I'd expect similar behaviour across those three models, if
indeed the firmware is the issue.

[Bug 1861554] Re: Radeon mobility HD3450 (RV620) heavy screen flickering after trying to upgrade kernel 4.15.0-54

2020-02-12 Thread Diego Maniacco
Same issue as reported in the Bug, with some diffs:
Laptop Asus x50sl with graphic card AMD rv620 / Mobility Radeon HD3450. [SAME]
Distro: Linux Mint 19.3 MATE 64bit; base: Ubuntu 18.04 bionic.[UPDATE]
This happen trying any distro. I tried Ubuntu 18.04.3, ElementaryOS.

I'm also stuck with Kernel 4.15.0-76 (as beeing LTS) and 5.3.0-28 (limited to
Aug.2020 support).

Ask for backport of bug-fix to Kernel 4.15.0 or other LTS Kernel.

[Bug 1862960] [NEW] pepwheel: Generated svg files are moved

2020-02-12 Thread Pacho Ramos
Public bug reported:

The generated svg file is completely different in pepwheel from ubuntu and the
one from Gentoo. I am unsure if it is related with some patches we are applying
in gentoo... but in Gentoo I think only the plplot could be related:
https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/sci-biology/emboss/files

Or maybe is one of the patches applied in Debian/Ubuntu :/

As an example, simply run pepwheel -seq ... -graph svg with this file
$ cat pepwheel.seq
>
KWKSFIKKLTKKFLHSAKKF

The proper svg file in pepwheel run in Gentoo is as the attached one,
while in Ubuntu all letters get moved

Thanks

** Affects: emboss (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1862846] Re: Crash and failure installing focal

2020-02-12 Thread Ryan Harper
@Lee Thanks for tracking down the util-linux bug.

Since this is broken in 2.34 (eoan/focal); I'm thinking we should use
sysfs to find the parent via device name walking;

Given a kname (nvme0n1p1) of the target partition

# look up sysfs path from kname
% realpath /sys/class/block/nvme0n1p1
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/:05:00.0/nvme/nvme0/nvme0n1/nvme0n1p1

# check if it's a partition
% ls -al
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/:05:00.0/nvme/nvme0/nvme0n1/nvme0n1p1/partition
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Feb 12 08:08
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/:05:00.0/nvme/nvme0/nvme0n1/nvme0n1p1/partition

# extract parent device path
% dirname
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/:05:00.0/nvme/nvme0/nvme0n1/nvme0n1p1
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/:05:00.0/nvme/nvme0/nvme0n1

# extract parent device major/minor
% cat /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/:05:00.0/nvme/nvme0/nvme0n1/dev
259:0

# udev symlinks/dev/block/$MAJOR:$MINOR
% ls -al /dev/block/259:0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jan 18 00:16 /dev/block/259:0 -> ../nvme0n1

Subiquity/curtin does not have support for btrfs subvolumes.

[Bug 1862910] Re: gnome-shell leaking memory

2020-02-12 Thread Colin Law
1. Screenshot attached. I have been using two screens but to simplify
things I have confirmed that only having one makes no difference, so I
am sticking to that whilst testing.

2. I did already have show seconds set, I have now tried without and it
doesn't seem to make a difference

3. I thought I had disabled all extensions, though I am not entirely
sure of the official method of doing that. If I go to
https://extensions.gnome.org/local/ I see only Desktop Icons, Ubuntu App
Indicators and Ubuntu Dock and they are all disabled, but as you can see
from the screenshot I don't see exactly the same as I see if I logon
using Gnome. For instance the Dock is not autohiding. So I don't know
what is going on there. Logging on using Gnome does not stop the leak
though.

I see I have a larger selection of logon options than I see in a clean
install, I have Gnome, Gnome Classic, Gnome on Xorg, Ubuntu, Ubuntu on
Wayland, and Unity. I tried them all a few days ago and they all
exhibited the leak except Gnome Classic and Unity, though I have done a
lot of cleaning up trying to fix the problem since then so if it would
be useful I can repeat that test.

[Bug 1862831] Re: hciattach on rpi4 times out on first attempt

2020-02-12 Thread Hui Wang
I tested raspbian on the RPI4B board, also could reproduce this problem.

steps of testing:
login the raspbian, sudo mv /usr/bin/hciattach /usr/bin/hciattach-bak
reboot
login, check the bluetooth is not up "hcitool dev"
run   sudo hciattach-bak /dev/ttyAMA0 bcm43xx 921600 noflow
will timeout and fail
run sudo hciattach-bak /dev/ttyAMA0 bcm43xx 921600 noflow
it works..

And because raspbian installed pi-bluetooth package, this issue was not
exposed.

2020-02-12 Thread Pedi
I can confirm that the bug still exits in kernel: 5.3.0-28-generic (in
my case with Linux Mint 19.3)

Sony Vaio product: VPCSE2J9E v: C60A4YXE
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 [Rainbow Peak] driver: iwlwifi

I tried the workaround by @massimo-bacilieri (thanks!) manually and this
worked fine.

[Bug 1861882] Re: Shift key cancels accented IME input with fcitx

2020-02-12 Thread T.D. Stoneheart
** Description changed:

  Prerequisites:
  * Ubuntu Bionic or Zorin OS 15
  * chromium-browser=79.0.3945.79-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 amd64
  * fcitx=1:4.2.9.6-1
  * fcitx-unikey=0.2.4-1.1

  Steps:
  * Launch fcitx and chromium-browser.
  * Focus input to a text box (e.g. omnibox, F12 console).
  * Trigger fcitx IME with UniKey.
  * Type a character sequence that produces a Vietnamese character (e.g. "aws"
(without quotes), with Telex input method, will produce "αΊ―"). Do not press Ctrl
or Spacebar, which will commit the word.
  * Press either Shift key.

  Expected result:
- * Nothing happens, or the typed character should not change, to the very
least.
+ * Nothing happens, or the typed character should not change, at the very
least.

  Actual result:
  * Typed word reverts back to "aws". The underline on the word still retains,
meaning that the word is not yet committed. This issue is a real nuisance when
typing a Vietnamese word followed by a Shift-punctuation (e.g. a question mark
right after the word).

  Remarks:
  * This issue does not happen on any other programs, only happens on Chromium
and Google Chrome, version 79.
  * Using fcitx-mozc, after typing a Japanese word, the Shift key does not
change the character.
  * This issue, more or less, is similar to bug #1859294, although not a strict
duplicate.

[Bug 1862943] Re: failing autopkgtests with new boost1.71

2020-02-12 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Description changed:

  failing autopkgtests with new boost1.71

  python3-defaults currently needs ceph to become a candidate which needs
  boost1.71 to become a candidate

  boost1.71 is blocked on:

  gyoto ppc64el
  hilive arm64
  yade arm64

  I am opening this bug report to triange / fix these, however meanwhile
  I'd like to request release team to mark these as badtest, such that
  migration of doom can happen.
+
+ Also uploaded nochange rebuilds, in case they were missbuilt with broken
+ binutils/toolchain we had for a bit in focal
