[Bug 1877733] Re: Lubuntu 20.10 calamares "failed to create a partition table"

2020-05-09 Thread Chris Guiver
This is a ~exact re-run of the QA-test that was used for led to the creation of
this bug report.
I booted same box, changed screens to match my setup (right display is
portrait-left tilted) as done last test

Then opened terminal and ran `sudo -E calamares -d` INSTEAD of clicking
install icon on desktop

FYI: Calamares will show being loaded twice; this was my error, as
opened at terminal first time, it displayed on my portrait-left tilted
display and was unusable (buttons were off screen), I was unable to move
window to other display so exited This behavior has been noted
before, maybe requires bug report, but I'm ignoring that currently...
Mentioned here only to explain why calamares was run twice in log
(opened both times with same command)

With the run of `calamares -d` instead, the install was flawless (I
haven't rebooted & tested yet, but I'm betting it is).

This is the log - ~/.cache/calamares/session.log

2020-05-09 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

This really is a re-filing of
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1851188

That bug report was reported as 'Fix Released' (for a number of days
the issue WAS unable to be re-created), but every so often daily builds
- had it re-occur.
+ had it re-occur (then occur for days..).

I did this identical QA-test install using yesterday's daily build and

Session log will be attached, I'll re-run the install with calamares
verbose logging (which sometimes fails, sometimes passes.. but hasn't
  been run/attempted yet).

(status is 'fix released' yet this box had the issue repeat with final RC for

duplicate of old bug... race bugs like this with many stack issues are a pain :(

[Bug 1876606] Re: colord erros in varlog which causes display to fail

2020-05-09 Thread Pushpendra Kumar
I'm trying to reproduce it again but couldn't find exact same error
behavior is quite same. I was facing this problem when, I was trying to
connection my Ubuntu machine via xrdp which is installed on VirtualBox
on Windows 10 host.

I can see that XRDP login is successful, but rather than landing on
Desktop screen I'm landing on a login screen, which says "Authentication
is required to create a color managed device". And when I provide
credential then it blinks and I see same screen again.

This time I got different error traces than before in /var/syslog. Below
are traces:

Some errors related to XRDP:

[Bug 1877733] [NEW] Lubuntu 20.10 calamares "failed to create a partition table"

2020-05-09 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

This really is a re-filing of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1851188

That bug report was reported as 'Fix Released' (for a number of days
the issue WAS unable to be re-created), but every so often daily builds
had it re-occur.

I did this identical QA-test install using yesterday's daily build and
had NO issues, today it crashes.

Session log will be attached, I'll re-run the install with calamares
verbose logging (which sometimes fails, sometimes passes.. but hasn't
been run/attempted yet).

[Bug 1877732] [NEW] Error:could not calculate the upgrade while updating

2020-05-09 Thread Anagh Sharma
Public bug reported:

While upgarading from ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 this error : Could not calculate
the upgrade occured.
Initially it said to remove unofficial software packages not provided by
ubuntu. I did it. But after that the same error showed but this time it doesn't
said to remove unofficial pacakages. It just that report it or otherwise you
may try yourself by viewing apt.lof and main.log. I tried to see through them
and found many packages related to ROS being broken. Now I don't know what to
do further.

should be 245 and 244) and I don't have the ressources to test those.

[Bug 1877726] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic, playback] USB sound with Rodecaster Pro not working

2020-05-09 Thread nils
Public bug reported:

Please see https://askubuntu.com/posts/1236257 for most background.
tl;dr:
- The Rodecaster Pro is a USB audio standard compliant device
- lsusb sees it, but alsa cannot use it
- trying the exact same setup with a Scarlett 2i2 USB device works (with some
caveats, see the mentioned post)

Somehow the Rodecaster is ignored by Alsa. I am more than happy to help debug.
Alsa info is at
http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=94fd609fa23912ab0a39b67676a026fd163f3f3b and also
attached.

[Bug 1877727] [NEW] Nvidia dGPU active despite prime-select set to Intel card

2020-05-09 Thread Mateusz Litwin
Public bug reported:

After fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04 I changed used card to Intel
GPU with command "sudo prime-select intel". After reboot Intel card is
used to display, but dGPU is still active (more heat and power
consumption, this laptop also has led that indicate dGPU activation).

In Ubuntu 19.04 which I used till today, after change to iGPU, laptop
use iGPU and dGPU is in inactive state.

I have MSI PE70 7RD laptop with Intel 7700HQ processor and NVIDIA 1050 GPU. I
found similar problem on net, but without solution.
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1232461/ubuntu-20-04-dgpu-is-always-on

Workaround that I found is use "powertop" and in Tunables card activate
power saving for dGPU card "Runtime PM for PCI Device NVIDIA Corporation
GP107M [GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile]", but I think it should work without
such changes every reboot.

[Bug 1874125] Re: Untranslatable strings in grub menu

2020-05-09 Thread Igor Zubarev
Hello, Brian! I already installed new memtest86+ from focal-proposed.

It seems translations haven't extracted to launchpad yet: "No translatable
templates available
". See https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/memtest86+
Also it recommends using
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/+source/memtest86+/+translations
 which is empty too

Which of them should I use when translation will arrive?

** Description changed:

After upgrading Ubuntu Mate to 20.04 , my wifi crashed on Lenovo legion
Y530. The strange thing is that it connects to the network, i have internet for
some time (usually between 1 and 10 minutes) and then it disconnects.
After that, the applet shows me something like device not ready and i can
only restart the computer to connect. Then it crashes again...
I also tried a fresh install with the same results.
I used 19.04 and 19.10 on the same laptop as my primary operating system and
wifi worked flawlessly.

Since I do my work on this laptop i was forced to downgrade back to 19.10 for
now.
This is my lshw -C network (from 19.10 If I remember correctly it was
RTL8822BE also in 20.04)

[Bug 1662440] Re: Unable to import FNMT certificates in chromium or chrome

2020-05-09 Thread José L . Domingo López
In reply to comment #13.

After Olivier reported a clean fresh install showed no such issues,
tried the closest to that I could do on my existing install, which was
moving out the way my current user Chromium .cache/chromium and
.config/chromium directories.

Started Chromium and it worked as expected regarding the certificates in
this Bug report. With still using Spanish as the system , environment
and browser language.

So whatever the problem is, seems to only affect users with :
- Non-clean Chromium installs
- Running on Spanish (or otherwise non default system language)
- And only for some certificates, such as some of the ones used in the public
administration in Spain (works for the root CA but fails for intermediate CA)

So anyone hitting this would probably good with moving away the user's
$HOME/.cache/chromium/ and $HOME/.config/chromium/ directories, and starting
Chromium again.

PPAs are currently pretty stale, and not connected to the new source on

I've disabled the recipes and removed the nightly PPAs.

2020-05-09 Thread Anthony Buckley
Well done You-Sheng!
Tried both packages and they worked fine. Don't worry about the delay, I have
more than enough to keep me occupied at the moment.
Thanks much for your efforts here. What happens next, just wait for 20.04.1 to
release? Do I need to clean anything up or can I just leave as is for the
moment?
Regards.

[Bug 996916] Re: postgresql packages in the removal blacklist making it hard to upgrade

Ran into this issue when attempting to upgrade from 19.10 to 20.04.

I had to remove postgresql-11-postgis-2.5 for the upgrade to work.

Really strange bug.

[Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

2020-05-09 Thread Nicolas Damgaard Larsen
I can confirm this is still an issue. The odd part is, however, that I
did not have this issue on 19.10 with the nvidia drivers from the ppa.

[Bug 1750146] Re: Xbox (One) Wireless Controller won't connect

I have the latest Ubuntu 20.04 and it also seems to have this bug. There
are workarounds, but I think it should work out of the box like it does
on Windows. It is weird to have this kind of bug as Xbox One controller
might just be the most popular controller and these kinds of issues
prevent people from gaming on Linux.

[Bug 1875200] Re: [amdgpu] Entire computer freezes shortly after bootup

2020-05-09 Thread Andreas Trottmann
Sorry for the delay - something very weird happened.

On April 29, the system hanged in the "Black screen with Lenovo and
Ubuntu on both monitors" phase. I then hard-reset the machine (as usual)
and generated the log file as instructed by you. It is attached to this
comment as prevboot-hang-on-black-ubuntu.txt

However, I then noticed that I mistakenly did NOT boot into recovery
mode, but into normal mode, and the system hadn't crashed!

I checked with "glxgears -info" that indeed the hardware renderer was
used (not llvmpipe) and wanted to find out how long the system would
work this way.

It turns out that it worked - with regular usage, mostly Chrome and
Terminal but also some video playback - until I had to reboot it for
unrelated reasons on May 5th, with multiple suspend/resume cycles.

While using it I noticed some situations when a terminal window would
display something that looked like a rectangular area failing to update;
or maybe something like "double buffering gone wrong", i.e. it would
display - in a rectangular area - content that had been displayed
before. Refreshing the terminal would fix it.

>From May 5th until today I had to use the system in Windows (where
nothing noticeable happened); now I rebooted into Ubuntu again and
promptly the system crashed again, this time while inputting the
password in the login screen. I'll attach prevboot-hang-on-login-
screen.txt later.

[Bug 1877712] Re: Severe performance degradation in Gnome Shell after upgrade to 20.04

2020-05-09 Thread Vadim Peretokin
The log file is absolutely flooded with errors like:

May 9 08:53:48 volga gnome-shell[3395]: Attempting to call back into JSAPI
during the sweeping phase of GC. This is most likely caused by not destroying a
Clutter actor or Gtk+ widget with ::destroy signals connected, but can also be
caused by using the destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs. Because it would
crash the application, it has been blocked and the JS callback not invoked.
May 9 08:53:48 volga gnome-shell[3395]: The offending signal was notify on
MetaDisplay 0x555ad20ba000.
