[Bug 1874846] Re: Keyboard stops responding in kernel 5.3.0-46, but 5.3.0-45 works

2020-05-10 Thread Chris Ritson
Following a full BIOS / firmware update on this NUC (which was 5 years
out of date), I have had a stable kernel 5.3.0-46 on the system for up
to 8 hours a day for most of a week. My guess therefore is that a
feature update in the kernel had been tripping a previously fixed BIOS
or microcode fault in the hardware. I'll run with the most up to date
kernel this week and see if that is also stable for me.

Chris Ritson.

[Bug 1709159] Re: Mouse cursor stuck on primary monitor on dual monitor system

2020-05-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 17.10 (artful) reached end-of-life on July 19, 2018.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed.

[Bug 1877568] Re: WL: compositor bug: The compositor tried to use an object from one client in a 'wl_pointer.enter' for a different client (resulting in Gnome terminal crashing)

2020-05-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please also follow these instructions to help us identify the crash:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1877932] [NEW] Bluetooth not connecting to last paired device when enabling bluetooth

2020-05-10 Thread Justin Joseph
Public bug reported:

I am using a Dell Lattitude E7470 laptop. I am trying to connect a Bluetooth
headset (Anker).
I am seeing this issue with the latest upgrade to the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS version.
I have a Bluetooth headset which is paired with the machine. Given the
Bluetooth is enabled in the Ubuntu machine and I switch on my Bluetooth
headset, the ubuntu machine does not automatically connect to this device
anymore. It used to do it very easily with 18.04,19.04 and 19.10 ubuntu version.
I have to do a variety of steps to get it connected:
* turn off and on the headset.
* turn off and on the laptop bluetooth.
* try manully connecting to the device from the setting menu multiple times.
* Sometimes it detects and get connected automatically as it should.

Thanks. Assuming the steps in comment #6 were followed then that shows
the kernel could not detect the DVD drive being connected at all:

Please try again booting with the drive connected and leave it for one

Separately, please also try disconnecting the drive while it is stuck

[Bug 1877672] Re: open-vm-tools 11.1.0 released

2020-05-10 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you Oliver,
it will take some time as we always let it mature in the current -dev release a
while but as usual we will later on also backport this to the latest LTS
therefore I'm adding a focal task right away.

The package is currently in sync, so I'd wait for Bernd to bump this in
Debian unless this is more urgent (as we are only at the beginning of
the groovy cycle).

@bzed - I know you usually see these bugs, if you need help to prep this
in Debian let me know.

[Bug 1718658] Re: ecryptfs-mount-private fails to initialize ecryptfs keys

2020-05-10 Thread pEEAT
This is truly unfortunate -- my little media server started off life as
an Ubuntu Server 17.04 _Zesty Zapus_ VM, but has been working for years
now as 18.04.x and recently failed an upgrade to 20.04 i believe (at
least in part) due to this nagging issue. I'm not able to work around
it with my limited skillset, unfortunately. At a loss, probably going
to have to rebuild my entire media server. Just wanted to chime in that
this has been a persistent issue for quite some time. Lesson learned,
will stick to LTS releases for my major appliances moving forward.
Thanks for everyone working on this!

If the 'ubuntu-bug' command does not work then please try using 'apport-
cli' instead. Or just proceed to step 2 of comment #2.

[Bug 1877927] [NEW] Clang fail create code model in QtCreator

2020-05-10 Thread nou
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
QtCreator version: 4.11.0-2build2

After installing Ubuntu 20.04 and QtCreator I can't develop with
QtCreator. It print hundred of code errors like incomplete QString class
in Q_OBJECT macro or doesn't recognize any Qt class. Buidling the code
works and compiler doen't print any errors so this comes from code model
plugin in QtCreator.

I found out that qtcreator depends on libclang1-8 but by default it
install clang-10 as clang resolve to it. I solved this problem with code
model plugin by installing clang-8 which resolved all errors reported by
itand now works properly.

[Bug 1877633] Re: libseccomp 2.4.3 (and 2.4.2) is not correctly resolving (at least) the getrlimit syscall on arm64

2020-05-10 Thread Alex Murray
When generating the list of systems calls for aarch64, libseccomp uses
the generic kernel API headers rather than the architecture specific
ones - and so misses the definitions of getrlimit, setrlimit and clone3
for aarch64 - if this is changed to use arch-specific headers then we
can regenerate the syscalls.csv and these are now present as expected.
Have submitted PRhttps://github.com/seccomp/libseccomp/pull/235 upstream
for feedback.

I'm testing Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) Beta.

I installed Kubuntu 20.04 and virt-manager as I did many times on Ubuntu

Ubuntu 20.04 guest then clipboard doesn't work right.

To test it, please install Kubuntu 20.04 and then install Kubuntu /
Ubuntu 20.04 as VM (guest). Open some simple text editor and start Ctrl
+ C and Ctrl + V plain text. 90% of time it will work and 10% of time it
  won't.

[Bug 1877617] Re: Automatic scans cause instability for cloud use cases

2020-05-10 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Alright, this *new feature* (which is actually fixing an unwanted
behavior) has the following section added to iscsid.conf:

# To prevent doing automatic scans that would add unwanted luns to the system
# we can disable them and have sessions only do manually requested scans.
# Automatic scans are performed on startup, on login, and on AEN/AER reception
# on devices supporting it. For HW drivers all sessions will use the value
# defined in the configuration file. This configuration option is independent
# of scsi_mod scan parameter. (The default behavior is auto):
node.session.scan = auto

And this makes it to have the exact same behavior as before this fix, so
this makes it suitable for SRU. I'm doing the merge requests and will
link to this bug. I'm doing the same change for groovy BUT it will be a
new merge with upstream.

[Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise

2020-05-10 Thread Jonathan Amir
A workaround is not relevant because the users that are hit by this bug don't
know that they need a workaround until it is too late. I don't remember ever
installing Linux and knowing beforehand that I need to apply a workaround to
circumvent the installer.
I know I sound like a broken record (see my previous comment here), but the
whole point of this bug is that the installer is lying to end-users. It
presents an option to choose a boot device and then ignores that choice and
severely damages the laptop.

Consider that not all users are highly technical and know how to use
gparted or mount, or what are boot flags. All they want is Ubuntu on
their usb flash drive. It can cause a great deal of aggravation to fix a
bricked laptop (and potential loss of money too). It also definitely
reduces those users trust and engagement with Ubuntu.

Personally, I don't think that adding more details to the installer like
another warning message is an adequate solution. The solution has to be one of
two things:
1) Fix the option to choose boot device correctly
2) or remove this option from the installer completely until you are ready to
support it properly.

[Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise

2020-05-10 Thread Mark
I find it unbelievable that this serious bug, which has been confirmed
and given *high* importance, has still not been fixed nearly 6 years
after it was reported. When it happens it really f***s up your system
and recovering can be very painful.

[Bug 1877900] Re: gnuradio-companion crashes with KeyError

2020-05-10 Thread Chris
A workaround is

$ GRC_BLOCKS_PATH=$(find /usr/ -type d -name blocks | xargs echo | tr '
' ':') gnuradio-companion

which sets

GRC_BLOCKS_PATH=/usr/include/gnuradio/blocks:/usr/share/uhd/3.15.0/rfnoc/blocks:/usr/share/gnuradio/examples/blocks:/usr/share/gnuradio/grc/blocks:/usr/lib/python3
/dist-packages/gnuradio/blocks:/usr/lib/python3/dist-
packages/gnuradio/grc/core/blocks

That's kind of ugly though and violates my expectations of having software just
work straight out of the repositories, or if some additional setup is required
it would have been nice to get a message from apt/synaptic.

[Bug 1877904] [NEW] flowblade irregular file save behavior

2020-05-10 Thread Sanjay Basu
Public bug reported:

Package: flowblade (2.4.0.1-2) [universe]
Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

flowblade 2.4.0 (packaged in Ubuntu 20.04) crashes on project file save.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open flowblade
2. edit videos
3. File --> Save As
4. Choose filename
5. Save

Expected result: Project is saved

Actual result: Project is saved but save file dialog remains open and
information in terminal shows:

Saving project...
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/flowblade/Flowblade/projectaction.py", line 492, in
_save_as_dialog_callback
save_time = time.clock()
AttributeError: module 'time' has no attribute 'clock'

After searching, it seems that in python 3.8, time.clock is deprecated.

Solution: It has been fixed in development version from
https://github.com/jliljebl/flowblade

Thank you,

Sanjay Basu

[Bug 1874831] Re: libnginx-mod-nchan distributes old/incompatible module

2020-05-10 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello.

There is a SUBSTANTIAL delta between the way things're packaged wrt
nchan. As such, I've had to make minor alterations to the nchan source
(removal of some binary files). AN updated nginx for Groovy has been
uploaded to a PPA - https://launchpad.net/~teward/+archive/ubuntu/nginx-
test - and soon a Focal upload will land there.

**Please test to make sure nchan works with these changes as intended.**
If it does not, then this will need additional effort to make fully
functional.

Easiest workaround is to use gparted or similar to remove the EFI/boot flag
on existing EFI partitions before the install.

[Bug 1872863] Re: QEMU/KVM display is garbled when booting from kernel EFI stub due to missing bochs-drm module

2020-05-10 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I repeated the same SRU verification as before, this time using kmod
from -proposed.

I installed a fresh Bionic KVM, with EFI enabled. I upgraded the system
to use the latest -updates packages. Linux 4.15.0-99-generic and Kmod
24-1ubuntu3.3 were installed. I shut the machine down, set the VGA
device to vga=std, and rebooted. The screen was garbled and unreadable.

I then ssh'd in, enabled -proposed, and installed Linux
4.15.0-100-generic, and kmod 24-1ubuntu3.4. I rebooted, and the display
came up great, and was perfectly readable. Attached screenshot as proof.

Relevent details from dmesg:

[1.137544] checking generic (c000 1d5000) vs hw (c000 100)
[1.137545] fb: switching to bochsdrmfb from EFI VGA

[1.140305] [drm] Found bochs VGA, ID 0xb0c5.
[1.140308] [drm] Framebuffer size 16384 kB @ 0xc000, mmio @ 0xc1c8c000.

[1.146542] fbcon: bochsdrmfb (fb0) is primary device
[1.149357] Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 128x48
[1.151830] bochs-drm :00:01.0: fb0: bochsdrmfb frame buffer device
[1.168977] [drm] Initialized bochs-drm 1.0.0 20130925 for :00:01.0 on

lsmod:

$ lsmod | grep bochs
bochs_drm 20480 1
ttm 106496 1 bochs_drm
drm_kms_helper172032 1 bochs_drm
drm 401408 4 drm_kms_helper,bochs_drm,ttm

Since the Linux package builds bochs-drm, and the kmod package removes
the blacklist, I am happy to mark this verified for both packages.
