[Bug 1879185] Re: fails with kernel 5.3 on linux mint, HP-Laptop-14-cm0xxx
I installed linux-modules-5.7.0-994-generic_5.7.0-994.202005192206_amd64.deb then linux-image-unsigned-5.7.0-994-generic_5.7.0-994.202005192206_amd64.deb (because of dependency, has to be that order), and then rebooted and selected the 994 version (I have vmlinuz-5.3.0-51-generic as default, and can also choose -53- if desired). It booted fine, and shut down seemingly correctly. Do you want me to run any diagnostics or logs? Something was tickling my brain about upgrades that we dealt with in the ceph charms a while back. [Bug 1873514] Re: Ubuntu uses insecure FreeRDP version
I suspect freerdp2 was derailed in politics much like the stalls and eventual removal of a package for guacamole-server. What is currently deployed in Ubuntu focal is a alpha development snapshot of freerdp2 2.0.0 which is buggy to the point of being unusable for Apache guacamole and has significant security holes. There are 14 CVEs currently listed as fixed in freerdp 2.1.0. The advisories, which are a recent additional reflective of the maturity of the product, can be found here: https://github.com/FreeRDP/FreeRDP/security/advisories It's hard to get an exact number on security issues between that development snapshot and the stable release but freerdp went through a lot of development before the recent stable releases appeared. Hundreds to thousands of issues fixed and some of them will have had security impact. An alpha development snapshot may been needed temporarily in an LTS release but it should be replaced with something stable once it is available. I have no interest in the politics and have not managed to navigate the bureaucracy needed to contribute packages to Debian and Ubuntu. I am trying to see if I can leverage the freerdp2 daily builds to build a stable package for freerdp 2.1.1 which is the current stable release. I'm also trying to see if I can take the 0.9.9 Debian package of Apache Guacamole and rebuild it around 1.1.0 and eventually 1.2.0 as that release is what will be stable on 20.04. If someone can help grease inclusion of the resulting packages that would be appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873514 Title: Ubuntu uses insecure FreeRDP version To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freerdp2/+bug/1873514/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1878596] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla
--- Comment From tkc...@us.ibm.com 2020-05-22 10:29 EDT--- I have attached the crash install logs and a screen shot of the Storage Configuration panel. As you can see the "Add VTOC Partition" is not highlighted and cannot be selected. Going back to the DASD storage. You can configure 3390 DASD in multiples of a 3390 MOD1 so you're not limited to the traditional 3390 sizes such as 3390 MOD3, 3390 MOD9, 3390 MOD27, and 3390 MOD54. The DASD storage I defined is a 3390 MOD60 (60 * MOD1). I did not format it in z/VM using CPFMTXA. The storage defined has never been used. We dedicated to the guest which we have done for past install of Ubuntu 18.04 and other Linux on IBM Z distros. We never had a problem. Thinking that it may be that it isn't formatted may be the problem, I format the DASD in z/VM using CPFMTXA. Still have the same problem. From you screen shot you provided with a volser of LX0200, the DASD looks like it has been used before by Linux and was formatted using dasdfmt. As for the subiquity installer looking for updates at the beginning and if there is one, it let's you know and offers to update itself, I don't get it in the beginning. I do get it on a reinstall. I did request the update, but it did not resolve my DASD having 0B of storage. Going into the shell and doing a dasdfmt on the DASD did solved my problem. The correct size of 50GB shows up on a reinstall, but having to go into the shell and doing a dasdfmt is pretty awkward during an installation. I did experience multiple crash going back and forth. A question about parmfile. The parmfile line is limited to 80 characters. Is there a way to continue pass 80 characters. I need to specify addition DNS. I need a total of 2. the ip line just fits the ip information with 1 DNS. Probably that is why I'm not prompted for the installer update in the beginning but subsequently after I add the second DNS during the install. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878596 Title: [Ubuntu 20.04] - Install - problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/1878596/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1880193] [NEW] autofs: Assertion 'set_remove(iterator->links, link) == link' failed at src/shared/userdb.c:314, function userdb_on_query_reply(). Aborting.
Public bug reported: autofs has a periodic error on mounting shares in Ubuntu 20.04 (it happens about 1 time out of 5): "Assertion 'set_remove(iterator->links, link) == link' failed at src/shared/userdb.c:314, function userdb_on_query_reply(). Aborting. Aborted (core dumped)" `autofs.service` restart (or `automount` app restart) fixes this issue. However if some of home dirs (like `Desktop` or `Documents`) are mounted by `autofs`, user can't login into Ubuntu Desktop Environment (PC freezes on login with black screen). Since this error can prevent user log in, it might be considered as critical bug. It happens both in `autofs` systemd service and by direct execution of `automount` app (`automount -f -d` command). May be it's an underlying error in `systemd` library (I found the line, mentioned in error, in its source codes). This issue has place in Ubuntu 20.04 (it works correctly in Ubuntu 18.04): > lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Release: 20.04 Packages versions: > apt-cache policy autofs systemd autofs: Installed: 5.1.6-2 Candidate: 5.1.6-2 Version table: *** 5.1.6-2 500 500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status systemd: Installed: 245.4-4ubuntu3 Candidate: 245.4-4ubuntu3 Version table: *** 245.4-4ubuntu3 500 500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Steps to reproduce: 1. Ubuntu 20.04 clean install 2. `apt install realmd sssd sssd-tools libnss-sss libpam-sss adcli samba-common-bin` 3. `realm join DOMAIN.NAME` 4. Enable makehomedir by command: `pam-auth-update` 5. `apt install cifs-utils` 6. `apt install autofs` 7. Add next line inside [domain/DOMAIN.EXT] section into /etc/sssd/sssd.conf: `krb5_ccname_template = FILE:%d/krb5cc_%U` 8. Reboot 9. Login as domain user and try to open directory, mounted by `autofs` (in my configuration shares are provided by AD). 10. `autofs.service` stops with the error above about 1 time out of 5 (not always). Found workaround: Add `Restart=always` into `[Service]` section in `/lib/systemd/system/autofs.service` file (in other words configure auto-restart on failures for autofs service). Attachments: 1. [Bug 1879211] Re: Charging my cellphone through usb breaks internet connection.
Sensible. If that were the case, a solution would rely in the capacity of the network manager to detect that the new route does not work,(and that the previous one did) My naïve solution would be to ping a reliable server (I use 8.8.8.8) and delete the new route if it timesout. Additionally, if the new cabled connection were successful initially, but later stopped working, shouldn't the network fallback to the previous connection? A similar thing already happens when multiple dns servers are specified. 2 functionalities failed for this bug to occur. (a third one if you count my phone presenting itself as a router when it can't do that, but that's not within Ubuntu's jurisdiction... is it?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879211 Title: Charging my cellphone through usb breaks internet connection. [Bug 1509717] Re: Wily LVM-RAID1 – md: personality for level 1 is not loaded
There are two things: - On servers, ubuntu-server depends on mdadm, so removing mdadm also removes ubuntu-server package, which means it's not really supported - In general, the installers don't offer installing like that. I don't know why we did not have a task for xenial. ** Description changed: [Impact] system does not boot after converting lvm volume to raid1 w/o having mdadm installed. [Test case] - 1. Install server with subiquity to LVM + 1. Install server to LVM 2. Add second disk to it 3. Run pvcreate /dev/vdb 4. Run vgextend ubuntu-vg /dev/vdb - 5. Run lvconvert -m1 --type raid1 ubuntu-vg/lv + 5. Run lvconvert -m1 --type raid1 ubuntu-vg/ubuntu-lv Reboot and check that it still boots. 6. Remove mdadm 7. Upgrade to lvm2 from proposed Reboot and check that it still boots. 8. Downgrade lvm2 to release Reboot and check that it fails to boot [Regression potential] Not really anything, we just add the raid1 module to initramfs, so it might be loaded during boot, and raid1 logical volumes might appear earlier. [Original bug report] After upgrading to Wily, raid1 LVs don't activate during the initrd phase. Since the root LV is also RAID1-mirrored, the system doesn't boot. I get the following message each time LVM tries to activate a raid1 LV: md: personality for level 1 is not loaded! Everything was fine with Vivid. I had to downgrade to Vivid kernel (3.19.0-30) to get my system to a usable state. I pretty much hope it to be a temporary workaround and I'll get the new 4.2.0 kernel work with Wily in days. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1509717 Title: Wily LVM-RAID1 – md: personality for level 1 is not loaded To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1509717/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1879095] Re: Thunar can open LUKS device in spite of "Forget Password immediately"
Thanks for clarifying this :) And I'm actually happy that it is *not* a security issue. I agree that it seems like a UX issue: As I've mentioned, I was expecting a different behavior based on the wording of the password-store dialog. [Bug 1509717] Re: Wily LVM-RAID1 – md: personality for level 1 is not loaded
Sorry, I didn't actually test Focal and Groovy. Xenial will be supported for about a year, so I think it worth to fix it there as well; however it's relative what worth to fix and what not, as most users probably left Xenial behind already or applied a workaround if they were ever affected by this issue. On the other hand it can be a real pain if you don't know about this and just happen to convert your root LV to raid1 and then your system doesn't boot. "The supported configuration for raid1 is mdadm after all, not removing mdadm and the meta packages that depend on it and using lvm's raid support." I don't know where LVM over DM-RAID is defined as the "supported configuration" as opposed to RAID1 over LVM. I always thought about them as equal alternatives for slightly different use cases. My rule of thumb is when you can afford to get identical sized disks and mirror everything, go with LVM over DM-RAID. If you can't guarantee to have identical sized disks and need a more dynamic solution, then RAID1 over LVM (i.e. using LVM's raid1 support) is more suitable. I recommend the former in productive server environments and the latter in smaller SOHO, home servers and personal computers. If one of my disks goes bye-bye, I wouldn't want to reinstall my system or lose my documents, so I have my / and /home LVs in raid1. However I couldn't care less about my Steam library because I can just re-download the games anytime, so I don't have it mirrored, as I'd rather not want it to use twice the precious disk space.
