[Bug 1878596] Re: [Ubuntu 20.04] - Install - problem

2020-05-26 Thread Frank Heimes
Thanks for sharing the configuration details.
Well, I didn't really said that the support is limited to Mod9, 27 and 54,
these were just examples, there are more models, like for example Model-108 and
Model-108 is a 3390 standard size as well afaik.
But tbh. in the last 15 years where I work on s390x technology I didn't got in
touch with a single installation where non-standard sizes were used or disks >
mod54.
Even several IBM documentations just mention and recommend the standard sizes,
like 'Practical Migration from x86 to Linux on IBM System z' or 'The
Virtualization Cookbook'.
For full flexibility in size there is always to option to use zFCP instead of
DASD storage.

And it's not surprising that things work differently on 16.04 and 18.04
compared to 20.04, since the installer is brand new - the DASD driver itself of
course didn't changed much.
One of the positive things about the new installer is that it's shell offers a
nearly fully fledged live system, that allows configurations beyond the
installer capabilities.
On top there is still a 20.04 image with a d-i installer available (nowadays
called the legacy image:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-legacy-server/releases/20.04/release/), but of
course we want people to switch over to the new one.
Btw. the DASD driver supports even more today pretty uncommon DASD types, like
9345 or 3380, but these aren't tested either.

I'm not going to close this ticket and will try to further investigate
what happened and maybe even find a way to re-create (if possible in our
env.), but will lower the importance to Medium, since two workarounds
exist (legacy image and manual intervention via installer shell).

** Changed in: ubuntu-z-systems
   Importance: High => Medium

[Bug 1845797] Re: Microphone not detected Lenovo Yoga S940

2020-05-26 Thread Daniele Dellafiore
I reverted to 5.4.0-29-generic from 5.4.0-31-generic and now sound and
mic work ok.

Something in 5.4.0-31 which is the latest upgrade for Ubuntu 20.04,
breaks stuff.

I can confirm that with all kernel versions shipped with Ubuntu 20.04 up
to 5.4.0-29 but excluding 5.4.0-31, sound and mic work without problems
on Lenovo S940

[Bug 1677398] Re: Apparmor prevents using storage pools and hostdev networks

2020-05-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Garry,
thanks for your reply.

Q: what do you mean by "setting up a new storage context" in your last comment?
A: the code was not only trying to connect to libvirtd, by tracking in gdb I
found that it was also trying to itself do some actions that would make
virt-aa-helper behave like the backend in libvirtd.
So it would set up its own "context" that might differ from what libvirtd sees.

Q: why does the AppArmor security driver use a helper binary (virt-aa-helper)?
A: libvirt by the nature of what it needs to do needs a lot of capabilities.
Splitting that in two would allow for two different profiles.
I think it was meant to allow the virt-aa-helper profile to allow more and
later restrict the libvirtd profile a bit more (hasn't happened yet).
And it was meant to deal with manipulating AppArmor.
Also this was 11 years ago, so yes it might be worth to revisit (I had the
same thoughts, and to admit keep forgetting why I considered it impossible
   the last time)

As I mentioned above, I think the approach in your patch is wrong in the long
run (causing too much other issues). But experimenting and discussing about it
gave me some good alternative ideas.
I'm waiting for Jamie to reply to my mail and then hopefully can give it a try
on a different implementation.

[Bug 1880795] Re: package nsd 4.1.26-1build1 failed to install/upgrade: installed nsd package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-05-26 Thread Maxime
By default, nsd binds to all local interfaces, and systemd-resolved
provides stub listener on 127.0.0.53, so another solution would be in
adding default configuration for nsd package to bind to 127.0.0.1
interface only.

[Bug 1880806] [NEW] Gedit unable to save preferences on 20.04

2020-05-26 Thread Balazs Gyurak
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04, Gedit is unable to save preferences. By
default, it came with the following:
Display line numbers: on
Display right margin: off
Highlight current line: on
Text wrapping: on

I wanted to disable the first and third option, so I did. It works as
long as gedit is open, but if I close and reopen it, the settings were
reverted.

Repro steps:
1. Open gedit
2. Toggle the "Highlight current line" preference
3. Close gedit
4. Open gedit again
5. Observe that the "Highlight current line" preference is reverted to the
original value

Expected behavior
Gedit persists preferences after closing & reopening

Actual behavior:
Gedit does not persist preferences after closing & reopening

Workaround:
Using gsettings seemed to do the trick. I've run:
gsettings set org.gnome.gedit.preferences.editor highlight-current-line false
gsettings set org.gnome.gedit.preferences.editor display-line-numbers false

This persists the settings correctly, so I believe the bug is related to
the UI.

Additional information:
OS: Ubuntu 20.04
Package: /usr/bin/gedit
Version: 3.36.2-0ubuntu1

Thanks,
Balazs

[Bug 1880806] Re: Gedit unable to save preferences on 20.04

2020-05-26 Thread Balazs Gyurak
It's also worth mentioning that before upgrading to 20.04, I had both of
those gedit settings off. Then I upgraded to 20.04, and that seemed to
have enabled both those settings automatically.

I've upgraded from 19.10.

Please run this command and tell us what you get:

  gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.lockdown disable-lock-screen

Also your lock delay is set to 1800 (30 minutes?) so please try:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver lock-delay 0
  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled true

and then log out and in again to be sure.

[Bug 1878499] Re: MY_MIRROR env could be better documented

2020-05-26 Thread Steve Beattie
How is one supposed to know about this environment variable?

  $ man ubuntu-security-status
  No manual entry for ubuntu-security-status
  $ ubuntu-security-status --help
  usage: ubuntu-security-status [-h] [--thirdparty] [--unavailable]

Return information about security support for packages

  optional arguments:
-h, --help show this help message and exit
--thirdparty
--unavailable

Furthermore, the prior tool, ubuntu-support-status, did not need this
magic under-documented environment variable to work:

  $ lsb_release -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description:Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
  Release:18.04
  Codename: bionic
  $ ubuntu-support-status
  Support status summary of 'HOSTNAME':

  You have 544 packages (14.4%) supported until April 2021 (Community - 3y)
  You have 2274 packages (60.3%) supported until April 2023 (Canonical - 5y)
  You have 3 packages (0.1%) supported until April 2021 (Canonical - 3y)

You have 72 packages (1.9%) that can not/no-longer be downloaded
You have 876 packages (23.2%) that are unsupported

Your Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) is supported until April 2023.

Run with --show-unsupported, --show-supported or --show-all to see
more details

Why can't ubuntu-security-status work out which Packages files have a
hash chain of trust that goes back to the ubuntu archive signing key,
and then determine security support status based on that?

[Bug 72531] Re: Merge editor horizontal scrollbar not working

2020-05-26 Thread Richard Bruce Baxter
The kdiff3 horizontal scrollbar is failing on Ubuntu 20.04. When the
user moves the horizontal scrollbar the two panes are not refreshed with
the new currently out of screen contents (only the existing contents are
shown and scrolled through). What should be the new contents is shown as
white space. After moving the horizontal scrollbar the user can click
inside a pane for the contents to refresh (on both panes), but this
workaround is both awkward and temperamental.

[Bug 1880411] Re: Tweaks > Keyboard & Mouse > Overview Shortcut = Right Super does not work

2020-05-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Looking at the source code of gnome-tweaks it is trying to set:

  gsettings set org.gnome.mutter overlay-key 'Super_R'

which is a mistake. Because the correct setting to get it working is:

  gsettings set org.gnome.mutter overlay-key 'menu'

So it's just a bug in gnome-tweaks.

[Bug 1765363] Re: prime-select intel is not powering off the nvidia card

2020-05-26 Thread Diana Shehu
I am also affected by this bug. I am on Kubuntu 20.04 on a Dell XPS
L502x. When I am on my Intel card, my computer reports my consumption as
around 22 W. I checked my 'nvidia-prime' package, and it is 0.8.14.
According to Vasyl, the bug should be fixed in this version, but
unfortunately it is not, at least not for me. Please fix this bug, as
the excessive power consumption essentially renders prime-select
useless.

Re: [Bug 1877670] Re: [Intel Braswell] Display Freezes and frequently mouse cursor disappears.

2020-05-26 Thread Myra Bandikalla
Sorry! It's the touchpad. Scrolling using touchscreen also seem to cause
these things. Sometimes, it comes out of the hang on it's own. It goes to a
solid screen for a second and everything's fine again. Other times, I log
off and log on to make the cursor work.

[Bug 518582] Re: mount ext fileystem fails, booting fails, blkid produces no output

2020-05-26 Thread Daniel Drake
A decade later, found the same bug in grub.

It might not affect "standard" grub usage (e.g. Ubuntu) where it may not
need to probe and guess filesystem type just to boot the system, but
thank you for the excellent diagnosis nevertheless!
