[Bug 1885142] Re: [MIR] libubootenv-tool, libubootenv0.1
[Summary] This is s small and safe library, mostly based on code that was in main before. It is ok to be promoted (MIR Team Ack) once the following points are resolved. Incomplete until those are resolved ... Required before promotion: - the foundations-team needs to be subscribed to src:libubootenv. Optional, but recommended before promotion: - fix d/watch - provide a symbols file even for a 0.1 lib if it seems reasonable [Duplication] OK: Function wise this has two purposes: - library (doesn't exist in other places) - tools fw_printenv fw_setenv were in u-boot but removed from there. No duplication issue [Dependencies] OK: - no other Dependencies to MIR due to this - a -dev packages that seems ok to promote as well [Embedded sources and static linking] OK: - no embedded source present - no static linking [Security] OK: - history of CVEs does not look concerning - does not run a daemon as root - does not use webkit1,2 - does not use lib*v8 directly - does not open a port - does not process arbitrary web content - does not use centralized online accounts - does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop - does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc) Problems: - does parse data formats, but in a really non introusive way and based on u-boot code that already was reviewed and in main. That alone doesn't make it need a security review IMHO. [Common blockers] OK: - does not FTBFS currently - no translation present, but none needed for this case (user visible)? - not a python package, no extra constraints to consider int hat regard - no new python2 dependency - No Python/Go package Problems: - does not have a test suite that runs at build time - does not have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest This is bit weak, but I agree that it is tested in all the arm/Pi booting implicitly. - The package has a team bug subscriber That is a real issue that needs to be fixed before promotion [Packaging red flags] OK: - Ubuntu does not carry a delta - Upstream update history is (good/slow/sporadic) - Debian/Ubuntu update history is (good/slow/sporadic) - the current release is packaged - promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far maintained the package - no massive Lintian warnings - d/rules is rather clean - Does not have Built-Using Problems: - symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code. Yeah it could be done, but it is intentionally a 0.1 to reflect it isn't stable yet Never the less it is almost no cost and helps to realize changes - d/watch is present and looks ok The current entries do not work uscan info: Requesting URL: https://github.com/sbabic/libubootenv uscan info: Matching pattern: (?:(?:https://github.com)?\/sbabic\/libubootenv)?.*/v?(\d\S*)\.tar\.gz uscan warn: In debian/watch no matching files for watch line https://github.com/sbabic/libubootenv .*/v?(\d\S*)\.tar\.gz [Upstream red flags] OK: - no Errors/warnings during the build - no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it) - no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH - no use of user nobody - no use of setuid - no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu - no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-* - no embedded source copies - not part of the UI for extra checks ** Changed in: libubootenv (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885142 Title: [MIR] libubootenv-tool, libubootenv0.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libubootenv/+bug/1885142/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When I used the command xinput to list the input devices there was a PS/2 Generic Mouse registered instead of my Lenovo Yoga 13 touchpad. I tried to search for the same on the askubuntu forum. I got the answer that to try and remove psmouse and then again add it using the command sudo modprobe -r psmouse; sudo modprobe psmouse This initially solved my problem but later on the same issue arose after restarting the machine. The touchpad also is again reported as a generic mouse if the system is suspended. [Bug 1885142] Re: [MIR] libubootenv-tool, libubootenv0.1
The code in the new src:libubootenv was split out from src:u-boot/binary:u-boot-tools => https://salsa.debian.org/debian/u-boot/-/commit/4c0c35319da4855b54a651c57be22d9de0740f1a and had some transition pain, e.g.: => https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=939598 This isn't exactly the same code so it is worth a deeper check (if it would just be a split we could approve on the base of the old MIR). [Bug 1885269] [NEW] ussuri: unable to stop and start an instance post upgrade
Public bug reported: bionic or focal with OpenStack Ussuri. The latest version of the nova package sets permissions on package update for /var/lib/nova: find /var/lib/nova -exec chown nova:nova "{}" + find /var/lib/nova -type f -exec chmod 0640 "{}" + -o -type d -exec chmod 0750 "{}" + However, when managing vm's via libvirt, various ownership changes happen to the underlying disks that mean that nova can no longer access the disk files with 0640 permissions. The disks (and base image) for a vm are created as nova:nova; libvirt then shifts the ownership to libvirt-qemu:kvm as the vm starts. When the vm is stopped the ownership reverts to root:root. 0640 permissions are maintained - however nova is not part of the root or kvm groups so cannot access the file - which means the instance cannot be restarted. The following permissions are required for correct operation: find /var/lib/nova -type f -exec chmod 0644 "{}" + -o -type d -exec chmod 0755 "{}" + ** Affects: cloud-archive Importance: Critical Status: Triaged ** Affects: cloud-archive/ussuri Importance: Critical Status: Triaged ** Affects: cloud-archive/victoria Importance: Critical Status: Triaged ** Affects: nova (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical Status: Triaged ** Affects: nova (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Critical Status: Triaged ** Affects: nova (Ubuntu Groovy) Importance: Critical Status: Triaged ** Also affects: nova (Ubuntu Groovy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: nova (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: cloud-archive Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: cloud-archive/ussuri Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: cloud-archive/victoria Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: cloud-archive/victoria Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: cloud-archive/ussuri Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: nova (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: nova (Ubuntu Groovy) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: cloud-archive/ussuri Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Changed in: cloud-archive/victoria Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Changed in: nova (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Changed in: nova (Ubuntu Groovy) Importance: Undecided => Critical -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885269 Title: ussuri: unable to stop and start an instance post upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-archive/+bug/1885269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1885162] Re: missing git filter-repo
I did not have a particular solution in mind. It's just that if you deliver a tool, which shouts "don't use me, I'm bad, use X instead!", it would be consequent and meet expectations to deliver tool X as well. If I read such a warning and need to fix it manually by self-compiling external sources, it leaves a somewhat broken impression. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885162 Title: missing git filter-repo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/git/+bug/1885162/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1885266] [NEW] iwlwifi causes random UI freezes
Public bug reported: The GUI randomly freezes around every 10-15 minutes. This last for about 15-20 seconds before it gets back to normal. It started a few weeks ago. I can see entries in dmesg when this happens that make me suspect that it is caused by iwlwifi and/or a related driver of the Intel Wireless-AC 9260. Do you use hintfull in your fontconfig hintstyle settings? It might be that when it is rendering with subpixel AA it uses the LCD-hinting algorithm, whereas when it goes to grayscale it has to use the normal hinting algorithm. If so, if you try using some other hintstyle like hintslight explicitly in your fontconfig settings, does it fix it? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883369 Title: Weird font rendering on certain website with firefox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1883369/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for pursuing this. I tried those settings and my paused VM now uses less than 1% CPU when before it used around 3%. Booting into the old 4.15.0-96-generic, sound is working without any other changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875916 Title: upgrading to 4.15.0-99-generic breaks the sound and the trackpad To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875916/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1885254] Re: boot.log scattered with msgs from plymouth even when booted with "noplymouth"
First: correction of some typos: replace: 2. What have such megs to do inside boot.log ? with: 2. What have such msgs to do inside boot.log ? A, only after sending this bug report, I see that for whatever reason the boot was done with: "plymouth:debug" Because I make a system snapshot before any "apt upgrade".. I am able to see when this has changed.. "plymouth:debug" was added by a system upgrade at 2020-06-23! The prev. update (done at 2020-06-08) does not contain this (but it even does not contain "noplymouth" ??) After looking as far as I can, I find that some upgrade before 2019-12-18 must have removed the "noplymouth" that I had added to the boot line I mentioned in my first post. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885254 Title: boot.log scattered with msgs from plymouth even when booted with "noplymouth" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/1885254/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1885026] Re: Fractional scaling contains 175% option twice
Thanks Daniel for referencing that comment, it's indeed also relevant here. It seems weird as a whole that the available scaling options appear to depend on common monitor resolutions. As stated there at 3840x2075 (that's 4k minus the VMware window borders) I see the 100/125/175/175/250 selector, at 3480x1859 I don't even get any fractional scaling options at all. It looks like somebody tried to make it really user friendly by tailoring the experience towards the end user ("nobody wants 300% scaling on a 640x480 screen") and then completely overlooked the windowed VM scenario, or any kind of remote desktop where you also want to be able to set the scaling correctly based on the host machine's resolution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885026 Title: Fractional scaling contains 175% option twice To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1885026/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Why plymouth is still activ (OK, may it's needed and this disables only the splsh screen) 2. What have such megs to do inside boot.log ? Maybe this behaviour (bug) is althougth the reason for some other problems I had in the last time with network shares (cisfs). [Bug 1885249] [NEW] hard lock kernel
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 16.04 guest VM running under vmware hypervisor. VM is used for running qemu/docker instances of virtual routers. After upgrade to linux-image-4.4.0-184-generic we get hard-lockup of the kernel (no interaction on the console, no crash report or anything) as soon as VM is put under load (several minutes in, 5 virtual routers started and configured). VM was running -177 or -178 for ~50 days without issue. I tested -179 as well, doesn't have this problem. linux-image-4.15.0-106-generic (latest hwe kernel) also doesn't have this problem. All of these are Ubuntu provided kernels installed using regular install process. So to sum up: Works: 4.4.0-177 to -179. 4.15.0-106 also works. Doesn't work: 4.4.0-184 causes immediate problems (within 10 minutes after starting this test/simulation environment). Hard-lockup only happens during the test and seems to be either memory/load dependent. Unfortunately I don't have any debug output because of this hard-lockup. $ sudo dpkg --list | grep -i linux-image ii linux-image-4.15.0-106-generic 4.15.0-106.107~16.04.1 amd64 Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-4.4.0-177-generic 4.4.0-177.207 amd64Signed kernel image generic rc linux-image-4.4.0-178-generic 4.4.0-178.208 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-4.4.0-179-generic 4.4.0-179.209 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-4.4.0-184-generic 4.4.0-184.214 amd64Signed kernel image generic ii linux-image-generic4.4.0.184.190 amd64Generic Linux kernel image ii linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 4.15.0.106.111 amd64Generic Linux kernel image ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.4.0-184-generic 4.4.0-184.214 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-106.107~16.04.1-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-106-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.23 Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Jun 26 07:10:53 2020 ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: linux-signed UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: linux-signed (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885249 Title: hard lock kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed/+bug/1885249/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1885246] [NEW] Desktop freezes when moving window fast to other desktop
Public bug reported: For a long time sometimes my desktop freezes suddenly and it took me a long time to find when. It turns out sometimes the desktop freezes when I move a window fast from one desktop to another, normally I would move it to the right. OS is Ubuntu 18.04 and the issue occurs (as far as I remember) with the Open Source drivers and the AMD drivers. When using some default setting/driver the issue does not occur, but then screen updates are very slow. I am using an MSI H81M-P33 motherboard, processor i5-4460, AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series (according to AMD driver). Monitor is AOC 1920x1080. I tried many things, like different kernal versions and different drivers. The currently installed AMD drivers don't work with the 5.3 kernel. I did not recently use something like kernel 5.0, so I don't know if the issue is solved in later kernels. I found some similar reports, but they all or mostly seem to relate to laptops. While writing this report my desktop crashed again and I was not moving a window, but just resizing it from the top down. I can access the system through ssh and just changed the drivers from AMD pro to AMD open source. Not sure what the effect is. More details available if needed. I would appreciate this would be solved, as it is pretty annoying to restart my computer several times a day and sometimes losing work. [Bug 1885006] Re: Search Service broken on Ubuntu Nightly builds
Rico, as we said in the original comment, that patch is no longer necessary. The original issue that caused that to be necessary is now fixed (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1623597). Distribution engines are now loaded first, marked as builtin/app- provided. Worst case, removing that patch completely might cause a few errors on the console about an engine already being installed the first time a user upgrades from a version before 76. However that error should have no user impact. If you don't remove it now you should at least mark it for removing in a release or two as it isn't necessary. If you find it is still necessary, please let me know and we can take a look at it. ** Bug watch added: Mozilla Bugzilla #1623597 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1623597 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885006 Title: Search Service broken on Ubuntu Nightly builds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1885006/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
