[Bug 1873961] Re: tc filter show tcp_flags wrong mask value
The ADT failures related to lubreswan and ubuntu-fan were resolved by re-try. The systemd test fails somewhere in the upstream test but does not give any hints about which part of that section was considered a failure. The amd64 re-try has now succeeded and from the timing it feels like the failure was rather due to some timeout and the test-case is rather to blame. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873961 Title: tc filter show tcp_flags wrong mask value To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-systems/+bug/1873961/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The reason isn't mdevctl (which is fine) but that we'd also need `src:jq` and for that `src:libonig` whcih currently (at least the server team) does not want to own (just for this use case). jq had no past MIR afaik, libonig was denied (bug 675757) but the old issues resolved. This decision can change and then the MIR is prepared. Until then this is incomplete. + --- - --- + MDEVCTL [Availability] The package is in the Ubuntu universe, and must build for all architectures. Just one binary package `mdevctl` [Rationale] This has two reasons: 1. it is a very nice tool to handle meidiated devices in general. It more and more becomes the one tool people refer to (other than fully manual working through sysfs) 2. libvirt with coming version 6.5 starts to use it and it will become a recommends. https://www.libvirt.org/news.html https://salsa.debian.org/libvirt-team/libvirt/-/merge_requests/55/diffs?commit_id=b8a07b4b19e3ba03b2d36b6def4c5e4527ec2f11 [Security] No open bugs or CVEs (nor any in the past). [Quality assurance] Packaging wise it seems sage it doesn't ask debconf questions, has no long-term outstanding bugs and upstream has a bug tracker. OTOH it is just a pumped up shell script these days, there is no upstream testsuite or anything like it. I have personally used it to manage vGPUs of nvidia and intel and it worked for both - due to the very HW specific nature of the tools use case there can't be autopkgtests or other easy tests. Package is maintained in Debian and Ubuntu by the server team. No outstanding bugs: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/mdevctl The HW the package deals with is not really exotic - while everyone wants to use it (pro users) for nvidia - it does work with almost any i915 laptop GPU of the last decade. Only you need to reboot/reconfig your laptop which makes it a bit harder. Lintian is happy with the package. No obsolete or demoted dependencies. [UI standards] No end user UI Just a few CLI bits used by admins and parsable output used by tools. [Dependencies] Fine except for `jq` which also need `libonig` [Standards compliance] The package meets the FHS and Debian Policy standards. [Maintenance] The Server team will subscribe for the package for maintenance + + --- + + TBD JQ/LIBONIG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1889248 Title: [MIR] mdevctl, jq, libonig To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jq/+bug/1889248/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1887607] Re: NFSv4.1: Interrupted connections cause high bandwidth RPC ping-pong between client and server
** Description changed: BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887607 [Impact] There is a bug in NFS v4.1 that causes a large amount of RPC calls between a client and server when a previous RPC call is interrupted. This uses a large amount of bandwidth and can saturate the network. The symptoms are so: * On NFS clients: Attempts to access mounted NFS shares associated with the affected server block indefinitely. * On the network: A storm of repeated RPCs between NFS client and server uses a lot of bandwidth. Each RPC is acknowledged by the server with an NFS4ERR_SEQ_MISORDERED error. * Other NFS clients connected to the same NFS server: Performance drops dramatically. This occurs during a "false retry", when a client attempts to make a new RPC call using a slot+sequence number that references an older, cached call. This happens when a user process interrupts an RPC call that is in progress. I had previously fixed this for Disco in bug 1828978, and now a customer has run into the issue in Bionic. A reproducer is supplied in the testcase section, which was something missing from bug 1828978, since we never determined how the issue actually occurred back then. [Fix] This was fixed in 5.1 upstream with the below commit: commit 3453d5708b33efe76f40eca1c0ed60923094b971 Author: Trond Myklebust Date: Wed Jun 20 17:53:34 2018 -0400 Subject: NFSv4.1: Avoid false retries when RPC calls are interrupted The fix is to pre-emptively increment the sequence number if an RPC call is interrupted, and to address corner cases we interpret the NFS4ERR_SEQ_MISORDERED error as a sign we need to locate an appropriate sequence number between the value we sent, and the last successfully acked SEQUENCE call. The commit also requires two fixup commits, which landed in 5.5 and 5.8-rc6 respectively: commit 5c441544f045e679afd6c3c6d9f7aaf5fa5f37b0 Author: Trond Myklebust Date: Wed Nov 13 08:34:00 2019 +0100 Subject: NFSv4.x: Handle bad/dead sessions correctly in nfs41_sequence_process() commit 913fadc5b105c3619d9e8d0fe8899ff1593cc737 Author: Anna Schumaker Date: Wed Jul 8 10:33:40 2020 -0400 Subject: NFS: Fix interrupted slots by sending a solo SEQUENCE operation Commits 3453d5708b33efe76f40eca1c0ed60923094b971 and 913fadc5b105c3619d9e8d0fe8899ff1593cc737 require small backports to bionic, as struct rpc_cred changed to const struct cred in 5.0, and the backports swap them back to struct rpc_cred since that is how 4.15 works. [Testcase] You will need four machines. The first, is a kerberos KDC. Set up Kerberos correctly and create new service principals for the NFS server and for the client. I used: nfs/nfskerb.mydomain.com and nfs/client.mydomain.com. The second machine will be a NFS server with the krb5p share. Add the nfs server kerberos keys to the system's keytab, and set up a NFS server that exports a directory with sec=krb5p. Example export: /mnt/secretfolder *.mydomain.com(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,sec=krb5p) The third machine is a regular NFS server. Export a directory with normal sec=sys security. Example export: /mnt/sharedfolder *.mydomain.com(rw,sync) The fourth is a desktop machine. Add the client kerberos keys to the system's keytab. Mount both NFS shares, making sure to use the NFS v4.2 protocol. I used the commands: mount -t nfs4 nfskerb.mydomain.com:/mnt/secretfolder /mnt/secretfolder_client/ mount -t nfs4 nfs.mydomain.com:/mnt/sharedfolder /mnt/sharedfolder_client Check "mount -l" to ensure that NFS v4.2 is used: nfskerb.mydomain.com:/mnt/secretfolder on /mnt/secretfolder_client type nfs4 (rw,relatime,vers=4.2,<...>,sec=krb5p,<...>) nfs.mydomain.com:/mnt/sharedfolder on /mnt/sharedfolder_client type nfs4 (rw,relatime,vers=4.2,<...>,sec=sys,<...>) Generate some files full of random data. I found 20MB from /dev/random works great. Open each NFS share up in tabs in Nautilus. Copy the random data files to the sec=sys NFS share. When they are done, one at a time cut and then paste the file into the sec=krb5p NFS share. The bug will trigger either on the first, or subsequent tries, but less than 10 tries are needed usually. There is a test kernel available in the following PPA: https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf285439-test If you install the test kernel, files will cut and paste correctly, and NFS will work as expected. [Regression Potential] The changes are localised to NFS v4.1 and v4.2 only, and other versions of NFS are not affected.
* On the network: - A storm of repeated RPCs between NFS client and server uses a lot of bandwidth. Each RPC is acknoledged by the server with an NFS4ERR_SEQ_MISORDERED error. + A storm of repeated RPCs between NFS client and server uses a lot of bandwidth. A reproducer is supplied in the testcase section, which was something missing from bug 1828978, since we - never determined how the issue actually occured back then. + never determined how the issue actually occurred back then. [Fix] This was fixed in 5.1 upstream with the below commit: commit 3453d5708b33efe76f40eca1c0ed60923094b971 Author: Trond Myklebust Date: Wed Jun 20 17:53:34 2018 -0400 Subject: NFSv4.1: Avoid false retries when RPC calls are interrupted The fix is to pre-emptively increment the sequence number if an RPC call is interrupted, and to address corner cases we interpret the - NFS4ERR_SEQ_MISORDERED error as a sign we need to locate an approperiate + NFS4ERR_SEQ_MISORDERED error as a sign we need to locate an appropriate sequence number between the value we sent, and the last successfully acked SEQUENCE call. If a regression occurs, users ca

[Bug 1878625] Re: PCManFM 1.3.1 in Ubuntu 20.04 hangs for 90 seconds on reboot/shutdown
Hi, I this issue is affecting thousands of users (many of whom are using Ubuntu for the first time) through my Ubuntu remix named Rescuezilla. For now I have simply limited the systemd service timeout to 10 seconds instead of 90 seconds, but this is not a great solution. Given Ubuntu 20.04 will be supported until 2025, it is important that this bug be properly resolved. As the user who reported this issue has alluded to, several months ago this issue was fixed by the upstream pcmanfm project by this commit: https://git.lxde.org/gitweb/?p=lxde/pcmanfm.git;a=commit;h=be8c60d588fc6b527d1cc77df9935bcfa66d52be It's a one-line fix. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. [Bug 1889146] Re: [SRU] Loss of USB device causes zita-ajbridge to run cpu at 100% and hang
Tested new package from proposed. Run Jackdbus, Run zita-j2a with USB device plugged in. That device shows up on the jack graph and will take connections. Start htop and show zita processes. Remove USB device while watching htop. Cpu use remains stable at .5 to 2% (same as running normally). [Bug 1880258] Re: Add trailing dot to make connectivity-check.ubuntu.com. absolute and reduce NXDOMAIN warning noise
> the vast, VAST majority of the time you see this message it is actually not a NXDOMAIN error. I don't have any extensive data as you seem to have but _for me at home_ (= office now!) and without zero captive portal involved, adding this trailing dot reduces the NXDOMAIN frequency from one message every 5 minutes to a few messages _per day_ (NM's default interval is 300 seconds) The "journalctl --boot -p notice" total also becomes about twice smaller. I filed this bug for a reason. > the NXDOMAIN returned by the upstream nameserver is the *correct* response - > that hostname connectivity-check.ubuntu.com.your_domain really, actually > doesn't exist. Yes of course, hence this one character fix which IMHO also removes one large "distraction" from the main, captive portal issue! > if you see this NXDOMAIN "error" [outside a captive portal] it is almost > always just a normal lookup of a domain that doesn't exist, ... which is for sure very rare on my (admittedly headless) system. Not sure why querying inexistent domains would be frequent on others' systems? > and the error message is simply wrong It says "mitigating _potential_..." so it's not strictly speaking wrong. Agreed it can be misleading but summarizing this fairly complex issue in just one line is quite a challenge. > This is due to a Ubuntu-only patch to systemd Care to share the "best" link(s) about this? [Bug 1886113] Re: snap-store Does Not Run with XAUTHORITY error
If I understand things, the path /home/$USER is not valid if /home is a symlink or when home directories are not on root. For example most corporate set-ups uses something like: /export/home/$USER Sounds like that will foil the 'dumb smart software too. I refute the proposition that ... "symlinking an alternate home directory location" This is not an alternate. The semantics are straightforward: "/home/$USER/", it is a regular Unix path name. The flaw here lies in the over-reach to resolve perfectly legitimate human use file paths into machnine talk. When in truth use of the given (legitimate) path of "/home/$USER" will or should work in all cases. For comparison; I do not expect a compile error when the expression "i +=2;" isn't written as "i = i+2;" And that is more or less what has happened here. A correct file path is rejected because of some internal scruples that have not bearing on usability or function. I'm not sure which part of the stack is dissatisfied with the "/home/$USER" pattern. So I added that patch to this systemd "almost no-change rebuild" patch. ** Patch removed: "lp1889297_bionic_systemd.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1889297/+attachment/5396664/+files/lp1889297_bionic_systemd.debdiff ** Patch added: "lp1889297_bionic_systemd-with-arm64-ftbfs.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1889297/+attachment/5396754/+files/lp1889297_bionic_systemd-with-arm64-ftbfs.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1889297 Title: Bionic: debian-installer FTBFS because udev-udeb depends on libkmod2 not libkmod2-udeb To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kmod/+bug/1889297/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1889297] Re: Bionic: debian-installer FTBFS because udev-udeb depends on libkmod2 not libkmod2-udeb
With the test packages for kmod and systemd in this PPA [1] I can confirm that udev-udeb now Depends: on libkmod2-udeb. >From the build log: Package: udev-udeb ... Depends: libblkid1-udeb (>= 2.31), libc6-udeb (>= 2.27), libkmod2-udeb, util-linux-udeb Just uploaded kmod to Bionic. [Bug 1889091] Re: When saving a copy save dialog cannot create directory on nfs share (due to apparmor)
That'll change evince's profile but leave everything else that uses @{HOME} broken. Edit /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home.d/site.local to match your local configuration for home directory storage, and then run sudo apparmor_parser --replace /etc/apparmor.d/ -- this will reload the system-managed profiles but not profiles managed by other services. (A reboot will reload whatever ought to be reloaded at boot, but that might be inconvenient.)
