Checking the upstream kernel repo, the following commit was part of v4.17: commit d64c2a76123f0300b08d0557ad56e9d599872a36 Author: Greg Kroah-Hartman Date: Wed Mar 14 13:12:26 2018 +0100 staging: irda: remove the irda network stack and drivers No one has publicly stepped up to maintain this broken codebase for devices that no one uses anymore, so let's just drop the whole thing. If someone really wants/needs it, we can revert this and they can fix the code up to work properly. Cc: David S. This bug still occurs in gnome-mahjongg version 3.22.0. Tried on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS ( year 2020 ) using standard Ubuntu package. [Bug 1880124] Re: xfce4-screensaver blocks UI on hyper-v
This is also effecting me. On a completely up to date 20.04 on real hardware my UI freezes up after a minute or so. It is strange though, I find that if I right click the desktop it unsticks me for a moment. It would often show me the lock screen login prompt after it got unstuck. What seems to have "solved" it for me for the moment is I have disabled both my screensaver and the lock screen in the screensaver settings. It didn't work if I just disabled the screensaver. Disabling the Lock Screen was annoying to do too, as every time I opened that tab the UI for the contents of that tab would become completely unresponsive. I was still able to switch tabs. Eventually I got it unstuck, though I'm not sure how, and was able to flip the switch. Very annoying problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1880124 Title: xfce4-screensaver blocks UI on hyper-v To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-screensaver/+bug/1880124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1890133] [NEW] User login screen is not offered
Public bug reported: Hello. I know how to solve some connection problems. I can't find enough explanation to understand the cause of this problem! It seems to loop forever on the user login and network acquisition sequences. First stage "try ubuntu before installing it" This step goes smoothly. The present screen forces you to choose the NOMODESET option. which has become very easy .. I didn't notice anything abnormal. Second step "Install ubuntu" I didn't notice anything abnormal. Initially I had chosen not to update the software during installation and to automatically log in the user. I restarted the installation by asking to update the software during the installation and to propose the user connection grid. There is no change Third step "The normal boot" The screen proposing to enter the username does not appear regardless of the chosen kernel. Removing the two "quiet splash" options allows you to see a significant amount of failed and the loop that seems eternal. I even waited over 30 minutes Fourth step "Boot recovery" The recovery screen is displayed. I can do the proposed actions. Some go wrong. For example, the fsck command says the partition is "already mounted". I don't think the problem is there. The most important is the network enable command which does not seem to indicate any errors and which does not activate the network! Ping 8.8.8.8 says network is not operational Fifth step "The start by CHROOT" This technique allows me to access the log of the installed instance (journalctl -D / mnt / var / log / journald) and find the first level of errors. Some advice says to dig deeper with the systemctl command but this one does not work in chroot mode. Sixth step "The diagnosis". As the normal boot never ends except by power-off, I used the recovery mode to access the logs of the previous boot. It is not that easy. I put in .txt files that I will send to you. I think reading the contents of some of these files will allow you to give me additional commands to find the cause of the problem. Thanks in advance. ** Affects: dbus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890133 Title: User login screen is not offered To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus/+bug/1890133/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1890136] [NEW] Return value in rtnetlink.sh from kselftests/net will be override in the last test
Public bug reported: In this test, it uses ret to store the return value of each test. However, this value will be reset to 0 in the beginning of each test. In the end of this test, it will judge PASS/FAIL base on this value. Thus this will cause false-negative in some cases. [Bug 1890124] [NEW] I can't click on the bottom ~25 % of the screen
Public bug reported: Whenever I move the cursor to the bottom ~25 % of the screen I can't use it to click. Sometimes but not alwyas there's a busy cursor displayed. The on-screen keyboard popped up before and I think maybe it covered roughly the same area. It disappeared when I typed my login password on the lock screen using the physical keyboard. Still, maybe it could be related? [Bug 1874465] Re: dummy output ubuntu 20.04 LTS dell inspiron 3420
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1876065 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876065 I believe the duplicate is incorrect, as that seems to be another issue. I have had the same problem described on my laptop (a Dell XPS 13). The fact that a force-reload works points to an audio device blocking issue, and indeed that seems to be the case [1]. Timidity seems to cause this problem, probably it is starting at the same time alsa tries to capture the audio device. The work-around solution for end-users is easy (you'll loose the timidity service, I did not need it): `sudo systemctl stop timidity` `sudo systemctl disable timidity` For an actual distro fix: perhaps the Ubuntu start-up scripts can be reviewed and the order adjusted, as that's likely the culprit.
