[Bug 1843742] Re: irda-utils ftbfs in eoan

2020-08-03 Thread Stefan Bader
There seems to be one package which depends on irda-utils (ircp-tray in
universe/misc). It was removed from testing in Debian due to the removal
of irda-utils there. Seems to make no sense to keep any tray icon around
which shows irda activity without userspace tools and kernel support
around.

[Bug 1843742] Re: irda-utils ftbfs in eoan

2020-08-03 Thread Stefan Bader
The irda-utils package was removed in Debian (https://bugs.debian.org
/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=907453) mentioning the lack of kernel
support. Checking the upstream kernel repo, the following commit was
part of v4.17:

commit d64c2a76123f0300b08d0557ad56e9d599872a36
Author: Greg Kroah-Hartman
Date: Wed Mar 14 13:12:26 2018 +0100

staging: irda: remove the irda network stack and drivers

No one has publicly stepped up to maintain this broken codebase for
devices that no one uses anymore, so let's just drop the whole thing.

If someone really wants/needs it, we can revert this and they can fix
the code up to work properly.

Cc: David S. Miller
Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman

This would mean that no Ubuntu kernel after 18.04/Bionic has kernel
support. Proposing to remove this package from Groovy onward.

[Bug 1197400] Re: Main menu bar (Settings, etc) not showing.

2020-08-03 Thread David McKelvie
This bug still occurs in gnome-mahjongg version 3.22.0.

Tried on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS ( year 2020 ) using standard Ubuntu package.

The bug: One cannot change the board layout because the Mahjongg
preferences and the Help buttons are not displayed.

One fix is to edit src/gnome-mahjongg.vala and rebuild
Line 145

bool shell_shows_menubar;
Gtk.Settings.get_default ().get ("gtk-shell-shows-menubar", out
shell_shows_menubar);

+ shell_shows_menubar = true; /* Force this to let us see the Preferences
menu */

if (!shell_shows_menubar)

It maybe that one can get the same affect by setting the GTK setting
'gtk-shell-shows-menubar in some config file,
e.g. /etc/gtk-3.0/settings.ini, but I do not know what other programs
would be affected.

[Bug 1633940] Re: plm on trusty won't run

2020-08-03 Thread Martin Quinson
Hello,
I'm the upstream author and Debian packager of this program. This bug is fixed
in 2.8.1.

You can either wait for the package to propagate to Ubuntu stable (it
should be part of Groovy Gorilla), or download the jar file directly
from the upstream webpage:
http://people.irisa.fr/Martin.Quinson/Teaching/PLM/

Thanks for reporting,
Mt.

[Bug 1890141] [NEW] Scaling issue with fullscreening YouTube, Netflix, games, etc

2020-08-03 Thread Syver Stensholt
Public bug reported:

Same issue as this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1863391

Some websites like YouTube will attempt to fullscreen, just not
successfully. Other websites, like Netflix, will fullscreen for a second
and de-fullscreen after that. Some games act weirdly in fullscreen mode
(this might be related, as I've never had this issue before now:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/2429).

This is a gif I posted in the related bug report showing exactly what
happens: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-

UI freezes up after a minute or so.
It is strange though, I find that if I right click the desktop it unsticks me
for a moment.
It would often show me the lock screen login prompt after it got unstuck.

What seems to have "solved" it for me for the moment is I have disabled
both my screensaver and the lock screen in the screensaver settings. It
didn't work if I just disabled the screensaver.

Disabling the Lock Screen was annoying to do too, as every time I opened
that tab the UI for the contents of that tab would become completely
unresponsive. I was still able to switch tabs. Eventually I got it
unstuck, though I'm not sure how, and was able to flip the switch.

Very annoying problem.

[Bug 1890133] [NEW] User login screen is not offered

2020-08-03 Thread geole0
Public bug reported:

Hello.
I know how to solve some connection problems. I can't find enough explanation
to understand the cause of this problem!
It seems to loop forever on the user login and network acquisition sequences.

First stage
"try ubuntu before installing it"
This step goes smoothly. The present screen forces you to choose the NOMODESET
option. which has become very easy ..
I didn't notice anything abnormal.

Second step
"Install ubuntu"
I didn't notice anything abnormal.
Initially I had chosen not to update the software during installation and to
automatically log in the user.
I restarted the installation by asking to update the software during the
installation and to propose the user connection grid.
There is no change

Third step
"The normal boot"
The screen proposing to enter the username does not appear regardless of the
chosen kernel.
Removing the two "quiet splash" options allows you to see a significant amount
of failed and the loop that seems eternal. I even waited over 30 minutes

Fourth step
"Boot recovery"
The recovery screen is displayed.
I can do the proposed actions.
Some go wrong.
For example, the fsck command says the partition is "already mounted". I don't
think the problem is there.
The most important is the network enable command which does not seem to
indicate any errors and which does not activate the network!
Ping 8.8.8.8 says network is not operational

Fifth step
"The start by CHROOT"
This technique allows me to access the log of the installed instance
(journalctl -D / mnt / var / log / journald)
and find the first level of errors. Some advice says to dig deeper with the
systemctl command but this one does not work in chroot mode.

Sixth step
"The diagnosis".
As the normal boot never ends except by power-off, I used the recovery mode to
access the logs of the previous boot.
It is not that easy. I put in .txt files that I will send to you.
I think reading the contents of some of these files will allow you to give me
additional commands to find the cause of the problem.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1890136] [NEW] Return value in rtnetlink.sh from kselftests/net will be override in the last test

2020-08-03 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

In this test, it uses ret to store the return value of each test.

However, this value will be reset to 0 in the beginning of each test.

In the end of this test, it will judge PASS/FAIL base on this value.

Thus this will cause false-negative in some cases.
Below is an example for the test on Bionic OEM-OSP1, test "ip6erspan",
"erspan", "ip6gretap" failed with return value 255, but the return value will
soon be overridden with 0 if following test passed without any issue (I made

[Bug 1890131] [NEW] Kernel 5.4.44 PMTUD broken inside LXC with multipath routing

2020-08-03 Thread Kfir Itzhak
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have discovered that with the Ubuntu 5.4.44 kernel, PMTUD (Path MTU
discovery) is broken inside LXC (network namespace) if using multipath
routing. This breaks TCP, because it keeps trying to send oversized
packets.

Host test:
--
root@host1:~# ip route add 192.168.247.100/32 dev vmbr2 nexthop via
192.168.252.250 dev vmbr2 nexthop via 192.168.252.252 dev vmbr2

What seems to be happening, is that when multipath routing is used inside LXC
(or any network namespace), the kernel doesn't generate a routing exception to
force the lower MTU.

I tried to download directly the MySQL-workbench and it worked. I think
that why I already had a MySQL-server on my apt, he gave me this bug

Without any configuration NSD will automatically start and binds itself
to port 53 on all available interfaces/ip addresses. It does not
actually conflict with systemd-resolved if both services are configured
explicitly. As a universe packages coming directly from Debian, its not
tuned to Ubuntu defaults.

[Bug 1890124] Re: I can't click on the bottom ~25 % of the screen

2020-08-03 Thread Per Johansson
Hi,

I haven't configured anything about the on-screen keyboard so it should
be the default one, whichever that is. I don't ever use it, to be
honest, but it does appear if I touch a text field on the screen. Ah,
now after I've used it the cursor work on the bottom part of the screen
again.

I've confirmed there's no extensions in the extensions app except the
built in ones.

NSD will automatically start and bind itself to all available

fail. If you want to keep systemd-resolved, you must explicitly specify

[Bug 1890124] [NEW] I can't click on the bottom ~25 % of the screen

2020-08-03 Thread Per Johansson
Public bug reported:

Whenever I move the cursor to the bottom ~25 % of the screen I can't use
it to click. Sometimes but not alwyas there's a busy cursor displayed.

The on-screen keyboard popped up before and I think maybe it covered
roughly the same area. It disappeared when I typed my login password on
the lock screen using the physical keyboard. Still, maybe it could be
related?

[Bug 1874465] Re: dummy output ubuntu 20.04 LTS dell inspiron 3420

2020-08-03 Thread Almer S. Tigelaar
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1876065 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876065

I believe the duplicate is incorrect, as that seems to be another issue.
I have had the same problem described on my laptop (a Dell XPS 13). The
fact that a force-reload works points to an audio device blocking issue,
and indeed that seems to be the case [1]. Timidity seems to cause this
problem, probably it is starting at the same time alsa tries to capture
the audio device.

The work-around solution for end-users is easy (you'll loose the
timidity service, I did not need it):

`sudo systemctl stop timidity`
`sudo systemctl disable timidity`

For an actual distro fix: perhaps the Ubuntu start-up scripts can be
reviewed and the order adjusted, as that's likely the culprit.
