[Bug 1878194] Re: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

2020-08-12 Thread Mikko Pohja
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794

Same issue here with Bose QC35 II and Thinkpad X1 Extreme (2nd gen).
Audio profile works just fine, but headset does not play any sound and the
microphone does not get any input. It was like this already in April and
currently on a fresh install of 20.04.

Because of this change in the latest dpkg.

"dpkg-deb, dpkg: Do not accept relative pathnames in DEBIAN/conffiles."

[Bug 1891437] [NEW] [UBUNTU 20.04] zPCI: Enabling of a reserved PCI function regression introduced by multi-function support

2020-08-12 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

When a NVMe drive is assigned/hotplugged to a Linux LPAR then
a bug is hit in lib/list_debug.c. And the device is not accessible, there is no
/dev/ file
and lspci does not report it also.

[Bug 1891340] Re: [RM] non amd64 binaries of gubbins in groovy to allow 2.4.x to migrate

2020-08-12 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
** Description changed:

in the past Gubbins had build for more architectures
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gubbins/2.3.5-1

  But since

https://salsa.debian.org/med-team/gubbins/-/commit/c73549ce1bd801e26a02b73b37ee2d32d5788431
- it depends on jqtree which is amd64 only
+ it depends on iqtree which is amd64 only
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iqtree/1.6.12+dfsg-1build1
-

Due to that 2.4.x is blocked on missing build-deps
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iqtree/1.6.12+dfsg-1build1
That is true in Debian as well
  https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/gubbins

Yet in Debian it was accepted and allowed to migrate to testing (Debian
seems to hav never build non x86).

[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2020-08-12 Thread CGeng
On Ubuntu 20.04, I have similar problem. Actually, I met this problem
since 19.10, however in 19.04, it was fine.

My default GUI env is GNOME, and I switched to KDE recently but the
problem still occur sometimes.

This problem is a little bit different from other people in these
aspects.

1. This problem not only happen in gnome-shell. it happens almost every
where, especially when you type in a textbox. For example, in chrome and
pycharm, I met the similar problem. Which indicates that this bug is a
general problem.

2. When my keyboard is freezing, I cannot type in the TEXTBOX. however,
other part of keyboard still work such as Capslock and Super(Meta)
button etc. Simply speaking, when the keyboard is freezing, I can still
push META button to present all windows, however I CANNOT type anything
to input in the TEXTBOX.

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-08-12 Thread Coiby Xu
Although Elan Touchpad is listed in the output of xinput, "0" in

I couldn't find the string 0x3140. Do you mean the device is defined in

The only issue is the pointer won't move when I my fingers move on the
touchpad. Compared with a working touchpad, the only difference is the
lack of ABS_PRESSURE events. If I use hid-rmi, these ABS_PRESSURE events
would be generated. It seems ABS_PRESSURE events are needed to make the
pointer move. If I could let hid_multitouch collect ABS_PRESSURE events,
then the touchpad could work.

So I'm curious if hid_multitouch also handle your touchpad device by default,
could you run `sudo evtest` on the device to see what kinds of events could be
generated?

[Bug 1891158] Re: riscv64 build - hang at the end of the build with hanging "dbus-test-runner"

2020-08-12 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
The problem is Ubuntu only, as [1] is good.
And the real fix should be in dbus-test-runner, but without repro it will be
unclear if anyone gets to that or if we just hope it resolves itslef (again).

But due to the above it makes no sense to submit the fix to Debian - as
for them it would reduce test coverage.

Please try https://launchpad.net/~vicamo/+archive/ubuntu/ppa-1891405,
which updates board-2.bin to the latest one from
https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-
firmware/commit/c06b46a7217d154efb6988142faf47a20b6ed41e . It's
scheduled for build, and may complete in an hour or so.

You may want to download the blob instead and replace the existing
`/lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/board-2.bin`. Remember to make a

Please comment if either case works for you.

[Bug 1876486] Re: Kernel panic booting after 18.04 to 20.04 upgrade

2020-08-12 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hmm thanks Raphaël.
So files were still around that were unowned, that really should not happen.
Thanks for the exact file names.

The files you had in your case were part of libseccomp2 2.3.1-2.1ubuntu4 which
is what Ubuntu had in Bionic-release.
 libseccomp2 | 2.3.1-2.1ubuntu4 | bionic |

But before you'd be able to upgrade to Focal (do-release-upgrade will otherwise
block) that would even in Bionic be upgraded to 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.18.04.3
 libseccomp2 | 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.18.04.3 | bionic-security |
 libseccomp2 | 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.18.04.3 | bionic-updates |

On that upgrade these files would vanish.

I've taken a Bionic system, downgraded to 2.3.1-2.1ubuntu4 and from there
upgraded the package.
The files went away as one would expect:

root@b:~# ll /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libseccomp.so*

Do you have any chance (backup, snapshot or anything) to check which package
(if any) owned these files on your Bionic system before upgrade?

Furthermore from your system it might be interesting to get /var/log/dpkg.log*
attached here.
Not sure one can find something in there, but we could track exactly what
happened to your libseccomp2 in the past - maybe that reconstruction helps to
find how/why these files got left on your disk.

[Bug 1891429] [NEW] Unable to use any application or return to homescreen after opening application menu

2020-08-12 Thread Prachi
Public bug reported:

OS- Ubuntu 20.04
Comfortably using since 25 April 2020

The issue started yesterday.
After clicking the show application button on the taskbar, there is no way to
return back to the home screen again. There is an extra black box available in
the right corner. I am able to open the application but not use them.
On opening any of my favorite applications from the taskbar that application
freezes and a red circle with white cross appear to kill this program. No even
the close, or minimize commands word expect that big cross on the left top.
This is sometimes sorted by restarting but sometimes even that doesn't help.
Please help me sort this issue. Its urgent.

Yes, regressions can occur multiple times (sadly) and/or can be observed
in different circumstances with multiple different root causes.

I agree we're now talking about a regression that occurred after Ubuntu
18.04 but it's not worth starting a new upstream bug when they already
know about it, and continued to acknowledge it in the past year.

Note that the relevant chicken bits live in a transcoder register
even though the bits affect a specific DDI port rather than a
specific transcoder. Hence we must pick the correct transcoder
register instance based on the port rather than based on the
cpu_transcoder.

Also note that for completeness I included support for DDI A/E
in the code even though we never have HDMI on those ports.

v2: CFL needs the w/a as well (Rodrigo and Art)

Kubuntu 18.04.5 QA-test install on

-- following is from iso.qa.ubuntu.com notes (edited)

error has appeared (looks like

--
Error restoring installed application.
An error occurred while restoring previously-installed applications. The
installation will continue, but you may have to manually reinstall some
applications after the computer reboot.
--
I erased & re-created the single partition on this system, so didn't expect
this error. I don't expect any restoration of packages to occur, but even if it
did - my install was from the same image with no packages added (unless
downloaded & installed during install itself, which could have been done again).

The installer then exited??? no reboot message at all??? !!!
--

I later worked out entering LIVE mode occurs b/c of error.

In the Kubuntu installer, if you delete partition, then create the same
EXT4 partition using the same space, it'll default to NO-FORMAT and thus
re-use the prior partition. This is why the message occurred.

However the packages present were only ones using a Kubuntu install
process as per testcase, nothing extra, so this error I don't believe
should occur. Even if installer download & installed extra packages,
why can't it download & install them again this time, I've not done any
no-internet QA-installs last two days.

[Bug 1888033] Re: Check error with 20.04-desktop ISO

2020-08-12 Thread Thinking Torus
It might be helpful to take a closer look to see exactly what has
changed.

For example, do a binary comparison:
$ cmp -bl old/efi.img new/efi/img

Or loop mount the img files and examine the contents:
$ mkdir mntold
$ mkdir mntnew
$ sudo mount -o loop old/efi.img mntold
$ sudo mount -o loop new/efi.img mntnew

mount may want to make its own changes so make sure the img files are
writable.

This is an upstream issue-read the following bug reports.

  https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/9401

I will shortly publish a patch/debdiff to allow for possible SRU.

This is a REGRESSION of a commit in Cinnamon 4.0.0

  SRU TEMPLATE:

  [Impact]

- * In fallback mode Cinnamon/Muffin segfaults and makes the desktop unusable.

  [Regression Potential]

- * This is actually a SOLVE of a regression-I'd task this at medium

Thanks for your help. Do you want me to file bugs and send patches for

snap? Because CE team has some deliveries are blocked by this issue.
Currently we use a patched core20 snap as temporary workaround.

[Bug 1891313] Re: Xorg crash

2020-08-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
At first I thought this might be boot failure bug 1872159. To test that,
just try removing the 'splash' kernel parameter. But maybe that's not
the problem...

I can see another problem; that your Nvidia driver is not only an
unsupported version, but it's also not installed properly. This seems to
be resulting in the open source driver running the Nvidia GPU when it
shouldn't.

So this bug is invalid for now. Please uninstall the Nvidia driver you
have and use the 'Additional Drivers' app to install the supported
version 440.

If you encounter any problems after that then please open new bugs for
them. Also, if you find any evidence of crashes in /var/crash then
please use the 'ubuntu-bug' command to turn those into new bugs.

[Bug 1891032] Re: Brightness key freeze screen

2020-08-12 Thread Alex Hung
This can be related to BIOS or to kernel driver.

Could you please run "ls /sys/class/backlight/" for backlight sysfs, and
attach output of "sudo acpidump > acpi.log" for BIOS analysis.

[Bug 1889683] Re: Touchpad used to work fine but suddently not working

2020-08-12 Thread ceewanna
I got the new BIOS obtained from this link
https://www.asus.com/Laptops/X555BP/HelpDesk_BIOS/. The latest BIOS is
Version 326 2019/08/07 and the previous one that had touchpad problem
was Version 323 2018/08/08.

Also after I faced with the touchpad problem, I also tried Ubuntu 20.04
on USB and the same problem happened with the touchpad. After resolving
the touchpad problem in 18.04 I decided to switch to 20.04.

I have no idea how kernel bisection is done.

[Bug 1891415] [NEW] kubuntu 18.04.5 daily manual partitioning ubiquity crashed

2020-08-12 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 18.04.5 QA-test install, manual partitioning options.
hp dx6120mt (mini-tower, pentium 4, 3gb, winfast clone of nvidia 7600gt)

I deleted my single (sda1) partition, created a new ext4 partition,
after this time ensuring FORMAT was ticked (last time it re-used my
deleted & re-created partition) the installer crashed.

I tried to copy the python code that appeared in the message, but it
didn't obviously get to buffer, as shift-insert doesn't give me
anything. I was following testcase so Install Kubuntu (and not Try
Kubuntu)

[Bug 1891414] [NEW] pdd file crashes when loading.

2020-08-12 Thread SoFl W
Public bug reported:

1) Description: Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS Release: 18.04
2) GIMP 2.10.14
3) I expected to load the file.
4)

This is a pdd file created years ago with my mother's old Window's 7
machine.

The attached file dump crashes with GIMP. When I try Puma it displays
"pluma has not been able to detect the character encoding. Please check
that you are not trying to open a binary file."

All the pdd files from an old CDrom fail.

Oddly enough, I discovered that if I rename the extension from ppd to psd the
file will load in GIMP. (I noticed this as I was getting ready to hit submit.)

[Bug 1875025] Re: Cannot enter password to unlock session

2020-08-12 Thread Craig Harding
I upgraded from Xubuntu 16.04->18.04 and then 18.04->20.04.1
I get this same behavior when laptop lid is closed and re-opened for new
session. I've temporarily disabled 'Enable Lock Screen' under the Screensaver
Preferences screen as a work around for now. See attached snippet from my
journal log (removing irrelevant entries)..

I do not have xscreensaver installed but light-locker binary is present.

Re: [Bug 1891361] Re: sshfs crashes entire Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS system

2020-08-12 Thread foobar
Hi Seth:

Thanks for looking into this bug.

Re unreliable w/o sshfs:

No, 20.04.1 LTS is quite reliable; so far the only crash has been while
using sshfs; when I'm not using sshfs, it works fine.

Re unbootable:

I don't think it has anything to do with grub; the sshfs crash mucks up the
boot drive file system, so that I have to fsck it using another computer.
But most of the time the boot drive is so mucked up, that fsck can't
fix it enough to boot.

[Bug 1891221] Re: libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin package does not contain gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders

2020-08-12 Thread Jan Claeys
One can specify an alternative path, but it would be nice if the fact
that the tool was relocated to a non-default (or at least not-in-$PATH)
location was documented somewhere…

(Neither its manpage nor the other gdk-pixbuf documentation seems to
mention that.)

[Bug 1891393] Re: Upgrade to lubuntu 20.04.1 stopped when working on installation and package sources

2020-08-12 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

If you read the release notes for Lubuntu 20.04.1
(https://lubuntu.me/tag/focal/) you'll find

"Note, due to the extensive changes required for the shift in desktop
environments, the Lubuntu team does not support upgrading from 18.04 or
below to any greater release. Doing so will result in a broken system.
If you are on 18.04 or below and would like to upgrade, please do a
fresh install."

[Bug 1891361] Re: sshfs crashes entire Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS system

2020-08-12 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello foobar, is your system otherwise reliable if sshfs isn't in use?
does it matter if the package is installed but not configured?

About the "unbootable" problem, I suspect that may have been due to a
recent grub update: https://ubuntu.com/security/notices/USN-4432-2

Thanks

I had a similar feeling: After seeing #LP1886811 fixed in
upstream QEMU, "systemd-nspawn -b" started fine on some architectures
and failed on others with self-compiled QEMU binaries.
But failing architectures were not used in my job, I did not file a
but report...

By the way, QEMU 5.1.0 was released.

[Bug 1891361] [NEW] sshfs crashes entire Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS system

2020-08-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, and started to use sshfs to
access some data files on a network drive, as I had done on many
occasions with previous Ubuntu versions.

However, within a few minutes of mounting a drive using sshfs, Ubuntu
crashed, and left my boot drive unbootable.

I set up Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS on another drive (taking 1/2 a day) and
tried using sshfs again for my data files. Ubuntu crashed again within
a few minutes, leaving my boot drive unbootable.

So sshfs is apparently unusable on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, as it somehow
destabilizes the Linux kernel.

***Note that this may be a FUSE bug, not just a sshfs bug.***

I can access my data utilizing Nautilus sftp:, but I'd rather mount the
drive with sshfs.

Please help.

Thanks.
