[Bug 1891734] [NEW] marco segfault

2020-08-14 Thread Robert Dinse
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu Mate 20.04 on an i7-9700k overclocked at 5Ghz, platform
with Internal graphics, Asus Prime Z390A motherboard, using an upstream 5.8.0
kernel and Mate Desktop with Marco Compton compositor chosen in Mate Tweak.

[250090.111698] marco[3762]: segfault at 388 ip 7f34a7c3afd1 sp
7ffe32baf8c0 error 4 in libmarco-private.so.2.0.0[7f34a7c28000+63000]

The 5.8.0 has a two line patch that addresses an NFS bug, otherwise is as
provided by kernel.org.
The configuration is basically the 5.4.0-44 lowlatency conf except that the
kernel is configured FULLY tickless, HZ is set to 1000.

[Bug 1876991] Re: Touchpad started appearing both as a touchpad and as a mouse input devices after upgrade to 20.04

2020-08-14 Thread Jerome Droniou
I have a very similar problem with the touchscreen not working (most of
the time) on my DELL Latitude 7400 2-in-1, except that when it does not
work, it does not even work on the login screen. Closing the lid or
restarting does not help. Then, from time to time, the screen works
again...

My touchpad is also recognised as both mouse and touchpad, but that does
not prevent it from working properly. The problem is solely with the
touchscreen, which is simply unreactive (most of the time) although it
does properly appear in xinput:

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-08-14 Thread Willy Nolan
Daniel van Vugt: @vanvugt:
It is safe to say that, when using Nvidia drivers, the fractional scaling is
completely broken.

- You can't set the scale differently on different monitors (basic
functionality)
- The fractional scaling doesn't work at all (even if you set it to be the same
for both or multiple monitors)

There are several (almost 50) different hardware configurations having
this issue and there are several "workarounds" all of which have their
own issues.

This is an extremely basic functionality and something that is needed as
I have read that *the most common* way to work right now is a laptop
with one external display. If using Nvidia drivers, that setup does not
work.

Can you tell me how to get involved or what I can do to get this
working? It has been several months and I'd like to solve this problem.

[Bug 1889322] Re: nvidia gforce

2020-08-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1889373] [NEW] Mozilla Firefox 78.x ESR Multiple Vulnerabilities

2020-08-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

Hi Ubuntu Team,

Ubuntu 18 is affected by the following vulnerabilities.

Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Mozilla Firefox ESR,
which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct spoofing attacks,
disclose sensitive information, bypass certain security restrictions,
and compromise a vulnerable system.

Reference: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/advisories/mfsa2020-32

Solution: Update to version 78.1.

Further info: Please also note that also Firefox 68.x versions are
affected by some vulnerabilities (see https://www.mozilla.org/en-
US/security/advisories/mfsa2020-31/), but I do not know if they are used
in any version of Ubuntu.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1890012] Re: Could not install 'systemd-shim'

Hello Andreas, this bug is filed against xorg, but the text description
looks like systemd-shim was involved.

Should this be an xorg bug or a systemd-shim bug? Or something else?

Thanks

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-08-14 Thread Alexandre Speltri
@david-hlacik Well, until a month ago, yes. I had enabled the Experimental
features and it just worked.
Some update broke that, so I had to manually add a simple command to "Startup
Applications", which was: xrandr --output eDP-1-1 --scale 1.5x1.5

To complete the setup, I let the display scalling (from gnome settings)
to 2x (200%).

There you go! It worked

[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones

2020-08-14 Thread gannon1
@John Hoff Looks good to me. Can you try again after changing

[verb]
0x1a 0x707 0xc5

to

[verb]
0x1a 0x707 0x5

The latter should be identical to your hda-verb command (0x707 is the
encoding for SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL) except that Early Patching modifies
the hda configuration BEFORE initializing the codec. I'm curious if that
makes it stick (ie continue working after you change sound sources or
stop the music).

[Bug 1891721] [NEW] grub-multi-install attempts to mount a non-existing device after migrating to another system

2020-08-14 Thread Dawid Wróbel
Public bug reported:

I recently moved my Ubuntu installation from Parallels to Virtualbox,
which naturally resulted in updated disks' UUIDs. Normally that should
be a problem as Ubuntu should autodetect such change and act
accordingly.

However, upon upgrading grub-efi-amd64-signed, dpkg kept failing with:

Setting up grub-efi-amd64-signed (1.142.4+2.04-1ubuntu26.2) ...
mount: /var/lib/grub/esp: special device
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Ubuntu_Linux-1_SSD_SF74YQ6DP1KMD07F8JED-part1 do
es not exist.

The Parallel's disk ID that it attempts to mount indeed no longer
exists. The EFI partition is correctly mounted at /boot/efi, since the
/etc/fstab uses partition' UUID to address it and that didn't change
during the migration, so there's no reason why the script should be
failing.

The debconf shows the following:

dawidw@ubuntu:~$ sudo debconf-get-selections | grep grub-efi
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/kfreebsd_cmdline string
grub-efi-amd64 grub-efi/install_devicesmultiselect
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Ubuntu_Linux-1_SSD_SF74YQ6DP1KMD07F8JED-part1,
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-VBOX_HARDDISK_VB1-1a2b3c4d-part1
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/force_efi_extra_removable boolean false
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/linux_cmdline_default string quiet splash i8042.nopnp
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/update_nvram boolean true
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/linux_cmdline string
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/unsigned_kernels note
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/no_efi_extra_removableboolean true
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/device_map_regeneratednote
grub-efi-amd64 grub-efi/install_devices_disks_changed multiselect
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Ubuntu_Linux-1_SSD_SF74YQ6DP1KMD07F8JED-part1,
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-VBOX_HARDDISK_VB1-1a2b3c4d-part1
grub-efi-amd64 grub-efi/install_devices_empty boolean false
grub-efi-amd64 grub-efi/install_devices_failed boolean false
grub-efi-amd64 grub2/kfreebsd_cmdline_default string quiet splash

Note that it recored the new, correct "/dev/disk/by-id/ata-
VBOX_HARDDISK_VB1-1a2b3c4d-part1" UUID of the disk that contains the EFI
partition.

I debugged it further and can see that the failure happens in
/usr/lib/grub/grub-multi-install (which is part of grub-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.2
package):
1) in "# We either migrate /boot/efi over, or we check if we have invalid
devices" section, it correctly detects that the Parallels device does not exist
("if [ ! -e "${device%,}" ]", setting the valid=0
2) given that valid=0, my understanding is that at this point the
"install_devices_disks_changed" prompt should be triggered, but it is not.
3) the "$RET" variable still contains both of the disks from
grub-efi/install_devices
4) in "# Run the installer" section, the script iterates over each of the
disks, attempting to mount ("mount $real_device $mntpoint) the non-existing
one, which results in the aforementioned script failure.

My understanding here is that there are two problems:
1) "install_devices_disks_changed" prompt was not shown
2) there's no check for whether the device exists at all before the script
proceeds with mounting and grub-installation attempt

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1891718] [NEW] [Regression] breaks GRUB install on an nvme device

2020-08-14 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

After upgrading a system from bionic to focal, grub-install began to
fail:

$ sudo /usr/sbin/grub-install
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
/usr/sbin/grub-install: warning: Internal error.
/usr/sbin/grub-install: error: failed to register the EFI boot entry: Operation
not permitted.

The issue seems to stem from libefiboot1. With upstream release 35:

# LD_PRELOAD=/home/ubuntu/efivar/src/libefiboot.so /bin/efibootmgr -q -c -d
/dev/nvme0n1 -p 1 -w -L grub -l \\EFI\\grub\\grubx64.efi -v

But with 36:
# LD_PRELOAD=/home/ubuntu/efivar/src/libefiboot.so /bin/efibootmgr -q -c -d
/dev/nvme0n1 -p 1 -w -L grub -l \\EFI\\grub\\grubx64.efi -vCould not prepare
Boot variable: No such file or directory

git bisect of upstream efivars hit the following commit:

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled a
PPA that provides Xorg packages. This will prevent the upgrade as that
PPA contains package version numbers greater than the release to which
you are upgrading. You can revert the PPA by installing the ppa-purge
package from the official Ubuntu archive and then running 'sudo ppa-
purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers'. After that you can try upgrading
again and if it still fails open a new bug report. Thanks and good
luck!

[Bug 1890491] Re: A pacemaker node fails monitor (probe) and stop /start operations on a resource because it returns "rc=189

2020-08-14 Thread Jorge Niedbalski
Hello,

I am testing a couple of patches (both imported from master), through
this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~niedbalski/+archive/ubuntu/fix-1890491

c20f8920 - don't order implied stops relative to a remote connection
938e99f2 - remote state is failed if node is shutting down with connection
failure

I'll report back here if these patches fixes the behavior described in my
previous
comment.

[Bug 1891712] Re: nautilus takes ages to start up when not already running

Thank you for your bug report. Could you add your 'journalctl -b 0' log
after getting the issue and indicate the times where you started
nautilus and saw it displayed?

Could you use gdb while it's doing nothing to get a backtrace as
explained on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace ?

[Bug 1856708] Re: Clipboard usability issues

2020-08-14 Thread Derek
One work-around I have found. If I go to a non-wine application, and
copy something. Then back to my wine application, I can CTRL+C/CTRL+V
again. But that will only work once. I then have to copy something
outside of wine to again copy/paste in wine.

So, dot-symbols on powerpc are not a thing on userspace since a while
(from gcc 3.4 times). And, then, I realized this header comes directly
from alsa, and for a different reason, this same section has already
been dropped there. So applying the same changes makes sense here.

Snap packages don't have any debug symbols.

You could install the chromium deb and dbgsym, then reproduce and share
the gdb backtrace from your core file?

[Bug 1891095] Re: update-manager fails silently

2020-08-14 Thread Peter Stalman
So yes, I've updated all the available packages and the software updater
offers to upgrade to the next major release.

I see the three buttons as you described:

I click and nothing happens.

The reason WHY nothing happens is a different error, created by a
package being held back.

However, it does fail, and it really doesn't.matter why it fails, I
think it needs to inform the user that it did indeed fail and offer some
sort of error message as to why.

I cannot seem to reproduce this bug. Could you please describe the steps
needed to reproduce it?

Also, did you get notified of updates before that? Does that happen
every time you click on "Upgrade"? What happens before you click on it?

[Bug 1891714] [NEW] Can't remove Noto Sans without xubuntu-default-settings

2020-08-14 Thread Lucas Wilm
Public bug reported:

I prefer to use another font instead of what is configured as default
and I would like to be able to remove the Noto Sans font from the
system, however it is dependent on the fonts-noto-hinted package (and it
seems to me that this package is obsolete, btw) which is dependent on
xubuntu-default-settings.

Is there a way to remove this font without consequently removing
xubuntu-default-settings?

I'm using Xubuntu 20.04.1 LTS.

[Bug 1891713] [NEW] I am unable to resize windows by clicking on the tops of them and dragging after gnome-shell restarted due to low performance.

2020-08-14 Thread Seija Kijin
Public bug reported:

When I was saving a document, the computer froze, and so did the
desktop, and mouse cursor.

Eventually, the mouse cursor reset its position, and the screen flashed
black but then back to normal. However, I was then unable to move
windows around by clicking and dragging them. I had to manually minimize
and then maximize the window back.

This mostly happened to Visual Studio Code, which was running while I
was saving data in another Java application.

[Bug 1891095] Re: update-manager fails silently

2020-08-14 Thread Akbarkhon Variskhanov
Are you offered to install some updated software? Because on my end, Software
Updater is offering me to install updated software first. There is nothing
about upgrades. As soon as it's done updating, a new window appears notifying
me of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. It has three buttons:

1. If there is updated software available, Software Updated pops up.
2. Then it checks for upgrades.

If you run sudo apt update in Terminal, what do you see? Are you offered
to update some packages? If yes then everything is working as intended.

I'm filing this bug separately because it appears to be distinct from

when I start nautilus and it's not already running, it can take an
