[Bug 1892678] [NEW] Fix non-working USB devices plugged during system sleep

2020-08-23 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Some USB devices aren't working if they are plugged under system sleep.

[Fix]
Consider xHCI PORTSC CAS bit over other conditions.

[Test]
Plug or re-plug USB devices during system sleep. USB devices always work
after system resume.

[Regression Potential]
There could be devices that depends on the old (but wrong) behavior.
However it's really unlikely and it's against xHCI spec, we can deal
with those quirky devices if any.

2020-08-23 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Focal is only mostly good.
The majority of tests is fine at
https://bileto.ubuntu.com/excuses/4220/focal.html

Of the remaining ones two are known overrides/resets:
- ubuntu-release:7143:force-badtest oca-core/all/i386
- ubuntu-release:54:force-reset-test diaspora-installer/0.7.6.1+debian1

But the postgresql-12 tests themselves failed
=>
https://objectstorage.prodstack4-5.canonical.com/v1/AUTH_77e2ada1e7a84929a74ba3b87153c0ac/autopkgtest-focal-ci-train-ppa-service-4220/focal/amd64/p/postgresql-12/20200820_194445_7401b@/log.gz

The issue seems locally reproducible and needs a further look.

enhancements in both of these projects:

Short term, to get the default changed you will need to request an

It looks like the patch just got submitted to upstream (and landed in a
staging tree); but we usually need to wait for it's upstream acceptance
- at least to Torvalds tree or linux-next (to be sure that the patch is
stable, reviewed and community accepted).

Am I got it right reading that this happens on PowerVM DLPARs,
controlled by PowerVC?

[Bug 1890772] Re: No signal on 4K 60Hz DisplayPort monitor by default, until "max bpc" is lowered to 8

2020-08-23 Thread Alex Tu
I think different from #32.
To adding a GUI configure bpc is a long-term plan.

Before that, the default behavior should be designed to get the best user
experience.
As we all know, there're lot of hardware components on the pipline of display
path(e.g. socket, converter, dongle, cable, monitor)

With any lower quality component on the pipeline, dark screen or function lost
is not acceptable.
It should be better to provide lower default bpc than dark user's screen.

Afterall, user can adjust the bpc by command in short-term or by UI in
long-term plan.
But if we just dark user's screen, user mostly thinks the hardware is broken or
Ubuntu provides poor compatibility(if they compare the same component to
Windows).

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1892668] [NEW] do-release-upgrade -d dangerously misleading output

2020-08-23 Thread James Bowery
Public bug reported:

Executing:

# do-release-upgrade -d

at one point output:

To continue please press [ENTER]

So I pressed ENTER.

I was then greeted with this opaque sentence fragment as the response to
pressing ENTER:

Inhibiting until Ctrl+C is pressed...

Then it just sat there... doing nothing obvious. Was it downloading the
updates? What was it inhibiting? How long was I supposed to ponder
these questions?

Some people confronting this Sphinx, waiting for hours, give up and
press "Ctrl+C" which, in at least one case, left his system trashed.

[Bug 1892626] Re: Random system freeze

2020-08-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. This appears to be a crash in the 'radeon'
kernel driver.

Please try a newer kernel like
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.3/amd64/
and if that doesn't solve the problem then also look in the 'Additional
Drivers' app to see if your system supports the proprietary AMD driver instead.

[Bug 1866194] Re: External audio device shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker, or none at all.

2020-08-23 Thread John Dixon
I have the same problem. I ran Pop!_OS 20.04 from USB and the bluetooth
worked fine. And after doing a clean install, bluetooth also worked. But
when I did the initial updates, I had the same problem: device appeared
in settings and connected, but no sound. Something in the initial
updates messed things up.

[Bug 1892427] Re: [amdgpu] HDMI connected TV wakeup problems

2020-08-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's expected and not a bug. Once a display is removed from the
current configuration (or just turned off), the shell tries to help you
by moving all windows to the remaining monitor. So you don't lose them.

This is however a bug if it happens when you try to sleep the whole
system.

[Bug 1867668] Re: Visual artifacts in Gnome Shell when using the 'intel' Xorg driver

2020-08-23 Thread Jesus Salvo
Also confirming that removing xserver-xorg-video-intel solved the
problem for me too.

I did not also have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf. However, I did
have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/01-amdgpu-pro-px.conf which was trying to load
the intel driver that was just removed:

  jsalvo@rig01:~$ cat ~/xorg.conf.d-01-amdgpu-pro-px.conf
  Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AutoAddGPU" "off"
  EndSection

  Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel"
Driver "intel"
  EndSection

  Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
  EndSection

Have to remove that file as well and then also do a:

  sudo apt purge xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu-pro

... as the amdgpu-pro was installed when it was on 16.04 LTS, before the
upgrade to 20.04 LTS.

[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones

2020-08-23 Thread PowerKiKi
@Mike Pozulp, it is correct that the model name referred in the merged
patch is incorrect. It refers to my model.

For future reference here is my alsa-info.sh: http://alsa-
project.org/db/?f=f13c46c58bba7ed21035e65230899b18419cd337

Where we can see:

Board Name:NT950XCJ-X716A
...
Subsystem Id: 0x144dc830

I attached here the patch fixing the model name for John's, and adding
support for headphone for my model.

I'd love to submit the patch, but I've never done that before. I'll see
if I can figure it out later tonight...

[Bug 1892658] [NEW] bzr launchpad-login fails if ~/.config doesn't exist

2020-08-23 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

bzr launchpad-login for a fresh user (e.g. in a lxd container) fails
due to ~/.config not existing... but then creates it?

ubuntu@portal-focal:~$ rm -fr ~/.config/
ubuntu@portal-focal:~$ bzr launchpad-login elmo
brz: ERROR: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/ubuntu/.config/breezy'
ubuntu@portal-focal:~$ echo $?
3
ubuntu@portal-focal:~$ tree ~/.config
/home/ubuntu/.config
└── breezy
├── breezy.conf
└── lock

2 directories, 1 file
ubuntu@portal-focal:~$

This worked OK in Bionic and Xenial, FWIW.

** Affects: breezy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
