[Bug 1793640] Re: Pulseaudio fails to detect sound card, while timidity is installed
Managed to make TiMidity++ work together with PulseAudio just fine on Focal 20.04.1. The idea is just to start both pulseaudio and timidity under the same user. One-liner for the current desktop user: sudo sed -E "s,^(SERVER_NAME)=(.*)$,\1=$(id --user --name $USER) #\2," -E "s,^(SERVER_GROUP)=(.*)$,\1=$(id --group --name $USER) #\2," -i /etc/default/timidity && sudo sed -E "s,^(\s*chown) timidity (/var/run/timidity)$,\1 "$SERVER_USER" \2," -i /etc/init.d/timidity && sudo systemctl daemon-reload && sudo systemctl stop timidity && sudo killall timidity; sudo systemctl start timidity && ps -o pid=,state=,command= -C timidity; systemctl status timidity; sudo systemctl restart pulseaudio; pacmd list-cards One can replace $USER with any user name given PulseAudio starts under the same user as well, the user is a member of the respective groups, and it has sufficient permissions for both daemons. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1793640 Title: Pulseaudio fails to detect sound card, while timidity is installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/timidity/+bug/1793640/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: + [Impact] + Cheese no longer displays its menu button on non-GNOME desktop environments. + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/cheese/-/issues/62 + + Xubuntu uses cheese as its default camera program. [Bug 1879183] Re: Cheese does not show preferences/options/menus to non-GNOME Users
"I can't say whether/when GNOME devs will accept this patch upstream, as this bug report (issues/52) was closed" Yes, they did not seem to understand the issue in that report, which is now closed. But https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/cheese/-/issues/62 is still open, so there's at least some hope that they'll fix it. "Daniel, the reason I asked you to make a separate PPA is that, your PPA says "Random experiments. Use at own risk." Yes, that's more of a "disclaimer" than anything. I only put the cheese package in my PPA for testing (and thank you for testing in several environments). I did not envision a lot of people using it. I probably should separate unrelated packages in different PPA's. Maybe when I have some more caffeine.. :) "I don't know how to submit patches to official packages in Ubuntu/Debian" See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates I think this qualifies as: Bugs which do not fit under above categories, but (1) have an obviously safe patch and (2) affect an application rather than critical infrastructure packages (like X.org or the kernel). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879183 Title: Cheese does not show preferences/options/menus to non-GNOME Users To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cheese/+bug/1879183/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones
@kasper93 That is good to know. Makes sense that the CORB values might differ somewhat. The ION has the AKG smart amp and dolby what not, so my CORB sequence is likely tuned for that combination of items. It actually sounds really good for a laptop. I think there may already be a fix out there for the metallic sound issue. I never had it on my system, but remember reading about it on other setups. If nothing else, we know the procedure recommend by Mike works and you could just capture the CORB values (with a decent amount of effort) on each different system. [Bug 1896337] [NEW] Removable Media settings don't remember your choices

[Bug 1792300] Re: Speech Synthesis Not Working
Speech synthesis processing is not shipped in Chromium source code. Ordinarily, in order to use speech synthesis at Chromium a speech synthesis engine needs to be installed, for example, espeak or espeak- ng, and speech-dispatch needs to be installed $ sudo apt install python3-speechd then launch Chromium with --enable-speech-dispatcher flag. However, no voices are loaded at snap version of Chromium at Chromium85.0.4183.102 (Official Build) snap (64-bit) Revision ffe848af6a5df4fa127e2929331116b7f9f1cb30-refs/branch-heads/4183@{#1770} OS Linux Chromium from https://download-chromium.appspot.com/ Chromium87.0.4268.0 (Developer Build) custom (64-bit) Revision b2793c4720e3daf929778440ff945eadf202b200-refs/heads/master@{#808630} OS Linux JavaScript V8 8.7.142 also has serious issues with Web Speech API implementation. It should be possible to run $ spd-conf then edit the speech synthesis engine configuration file to modify variations, which should be reflected in speechSynthesis.getVoices(), however, that also does not currently work for non-snap Chromium, where snap Chromium loads no voices at all. Also, the queue to speech-dispatcher is severely broken at non-snap Chromium, requiring executing speechSynthesis.cancel() to cycle through the code that worked within the last few releases at https://guest271314.github.io/SSMLParser/, where the code outputs the expected result at Firefox 80 and Nightly 82. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792300 Title: Speech Synthesis Not Working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1792300/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1896333] [NEW] "Select an audio" menu when user have not even inserted headphone jack.
Public bug reported: GNOME 3.36.3 | Ubuntu 20.04.1 It has been a month and I have been experiencing this weird behavior. Earphone option like this 3 while unlocking the laptop as if I have inserted earphones. Some details this issue: I have to wait like 10 min or so after the lock of the screen. This will trigger something and when I open the lid or touch mouse pad to unlock, I get earphone options to chooose in the screen as if I have inserted headphone jack. Something is wrong. I want to know why. This didn't used to happen a month ago. I waited a month to report this issue thinking it will get resolved in upcoming updates but sadly no changes so far. I think some Ubuntu's GNOME update might have something to do this. This is my wild guess. But very certain about it. Let me know. Although the issue might seems really small issue but very annoying to go throw this EVERYDAY. I would love to know what is causing this? When its fixed? Is there something wrong on my side? [Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones
Also an idea for understanding what specific verbs are responsible for. In Samsung Settings thingy there is a audio profile selection, we could diff verbs set between those profiles. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851518 Title: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1851518/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones
I tested your script on my 930SBE. It sort of worked, I indeed got output on speakers, but the quality was terrible, sound was metallic and tiny. Generally looks like we are setting AMP coefficients and those vary between models. I will set up and dump verbs for my machine when I get some free time.
