[Bug 1892440] Re: Shell text with wrong size in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 (mostly on Nvidia)
@Marco thank you for your post regarding the test packages (comment #50). This has almost solved the problem for me. I still get enlarged text at the decryption password screen. [Bug 1895905] Re: lubuntu groovy; flashing of sddm greeter
Another QA-test install (groovy) on dell [optiplex] 990 (i7-2600, 16gb, nvidia geforce gt 6600 gt) testcase: full disk, encryption, BIOS, no internet got thru encryption and got to ssdm. entered random keys into sddm (fingers incorrectly positioned so it'd be incorrect), screen was horrid but it didn't log me in as expected. I was then UNABLE to see what occurred, backspace didn't work, screen kept shaking/flashing and made no sense as I attempted to correct random keys and enter a password correctly; I tried a couple of times following the display and was unable. this was a somewhat serious flaw today (because of invalid entry first time as with fingers incorrectly placed) I could successfully login when I shut my eyes & just used the keyboard without following the screen at all, so box is working exactly as expected... but the video issue is a problem with sddm on this box for some reason. Logged out & played again, at times the DOTS are erased when the line is completely empty, however most of the time it shows dots even after pressing many times (more times than keys hit, ie. x3 followed by x4 should be empty field but it may still have 3 or 7 dots It appears inconsistent!?? I'll have to explore it some more -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1895905 Title: lubuntu groovy; flashing of sddm greeter To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1895905/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The bug was likely not filed as that box was i386 & support was being dropped when I noticed it so I didn't see any point. [Bug 1896378] Re: xubuntu kernel causes rectangular screen fluttering
OK, that seems to have worked with the apport, as far as I can tell. I tried it without first having logged on to Launchpad, via terminal and the apport command, which opened up the web browser asking me to log in, but then it couldn't send the apport, it seems. So I did the "apport-collect 1896378" command in terminal again, and then it looks like it did send. So, I did have to try that command twice before it sent an apport. You didn't tell me I had to be logged onto Launchpad first, and the command brought up the correct internet webpage asking me to log on, but then wouldn't go through with the apport. To know what happened I had to actually copy the whole statement from terminal onto a libre word document, reboot the laptop (I was in the kernel with the bug) and in going to the kernel that didn't have the bug could read that there was an error in connecting to launchpad. I then tried the whole process again, as I described prior, and it seems to have worked. And I see that how to find the package is listed here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage Thanks for your beautiful work keeping Ubuntu going! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1896378 Title: xubuntu kernel causes rectangular screen fluttering To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1896378/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

"There are no errors shown in main.log" Look again: 2020-09-20 14:56:32,417 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.' It looks like the oibaf PPA specifically is causing the issue, so: sudo apt-get install ppa-purge sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers I recommend you do the same with other bionic PPA's you have installed, and also remove the old .list files (ones from xenial and debian stable). [Bug 1896378] Re: xubuntu kernel causes rectangular screen fluttering
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected bionic ** Description changed: I had the same problem, exactly the same look with the latest kernel, of Xubuntu18 and also I tried UbuntuBudgie18, and both did the same. On my laptop (NC8000) the screen looks like someone has disrupted the pixels with little rectangular stuff. I had to go back a kernel via Grub and advanced options before I could read properly anything on the screen. And yes, I have just two 32 bit computers, although I also have 64 bit. But both 32 bit ones with the newest kernels for xubuntu or Budgie mess up the screen, and the kernel before that doesn't. I imagine that’s the case with all of the newer kernels with Kubuntu, Lubuntu etc.. And the kernels are 5.0.037 which works. And 5.0.047 which has the distortion shared. here is the lshw -c video listings for the laptop (32 bit) *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: RV350/M10 / RV360/M11 [Mobility Radeon 9600 (PRO) / 9700] vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Bug 1896380] Re: An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. 18.04 to 20.04
I think the issue may be that you removed the oibaf (and other) PPA(s) from your package list before using ppa-purge. Try re-adding it and then running ppa-purge. ppa-purge will remove the PPA from your sources after reverting packages, so you do not have to do that manually. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1896380 Title: An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. 18.04 to 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1896380/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
