I2C bus basically means VESA DDC. If I understand, VESA DDC was originally for analog VGA monitors. The protocol used for VESA DDC is I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit), hence, I use the term "I2C bus." [Bug 1897992] Re: No VGA video signal after installing pkg and rebooting
Over the past few years, I have tried and failed to figure out how to build the latest version of xserver-xorg-video-openchrome package. Hence, you will have to compile the latest upstream code, and install it somewhere manually. https://cgit.freedesktop.org/openchrome/xf86-video-openchrome/ If you don't have Git installed already, install it now. $ sudo apt-get install git Setup OpenChrome DDX build dependency. $ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome You will clone the OpenChrome DDX repository first. $ git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/openchrome/xf86-video- openchrome Move into the OpenChrome DDX directory. $ cd xf86-video-openchrome When compiling the code, you will like to work with 'main' branch rather than 'master' branch. 'master' branch is already deprecated, and should not be used. All the current development happens on 'main' branch. Make sure to switch to 'main' branch before compiling the code. $ git branch main origin/main $ git checkout main When working with the latest upstream code, and I recommend installing it to /opt/xorg. Prepare the compilation script. $ autoreconf -v --install $ ./configure --prefix=/opt/xorg --enable-debug --enable-xv-debug --enable-viaregtool You are free to remove ". . . --enable-debug --enable-xv-debug --enable-viaregtool" portion if you want to. Obviously, '$' and '#' are not literally entered inside the terminal. Compile the code. $ make Install the code. $ sudo make install Before you can use the latest code, you will also need to tell the X Server to search /opt/xorg when starting up the X Server. Courtesy of Radeon developers (https://www.x.org/wiki/radeonBuildHowTo/), insert the following text into a xorg.conf file. Section "Files" ModulePath "/opt/xorg/lib/xorg/modules,/usr/lib/xorg/modules" EndSection You will need to figure out where to insert the xorg.conf file, but at least for recent releases of Ubuntu, I usually put it into /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/. In order to create and / or edit xorg.conf, you will need root privilege. $ sudo nano -w /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/xorg.conf Generally speaking, you do not really need to provide other manual options to the X Server for OpenChrome DDX to function properly. This new installation method preserves the original OpenChrome DDX while allowing the user to bypass the older DDX. If there is newer version of the code, you can pull it into your local repository. $ git pull Repeat the above procedure for generating the compilation script. If you wanted to remove the code, you can simply get rid of /opt/xorg $ sudo rm -R /opt/xorg You can also remove the above 3 lines from your xorg.conf. I hope this solves the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1897992 Title: No VGA video signal after installing pkg and rebooting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/1897992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1898302] Re: Lubuntu makes /bin and /sbin symlinks
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You haven't given any specifics as to which install media you are talking about, you do specify Lubuntu 20.04, but not - the original 20.04 media, - updated 20.04.1, or - a daily image (and then which one) It could be added via running the following command only once (from your installed system, or the 'live' iso), as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 1898302 When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. Lubuntu has used the `calamares` installer since 18.10, however I suspect this issue impacts more than Lubuntu. A QA-test install of Xubuntu groovy beta appears to have the same as what you're describing). [Bug 1898302] Re: Lubuntu makes /bin and /sbin symlinks
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1898302/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected
Note that this bug also affects efforts to install older images, including 20.04 from May and June of this year: those installs crash also with this same error. This matters, because the bugs introduced by Updater changes since mid-September have made Ubuntu troublesome and unstable. Bugs that have occurred or recurred since mid-September include 1872159 (Booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected); 1835660 (Initramfs unpacking failed); 1897185 (Login triggers suspend after update); and then this one (1871268) when trying to reinstall to regain stability. [Bug 1872159] Re: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected
This bug recurred with the last two 20.04 Updater packages, starting mid-September. The initramfs upacking bug 1835660 recurred about the same time. Turning off the Ubuntu splash screen seems to avoid the problem, but when it doesn't (or until you realize that you have to make that change); the spinning logo hang forces a hard power down which seems to cause other problems and affects general stability. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872159 Title: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/plymouth/+bug/1872159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed
Continues to occur even once the bug 1871268 install crash has been dealt with (installing from latest daily-live current image). So affects even a fresh install. Seemed to appear in mid-September updates along with recurrence of bug 1872159, the dreaded spinning Ubuntu logo hang on startup. So a fresh install does not resolve it; and the workarounds of recreating the ram drive image no longer seem to work either. This issue 1835660, the spinning logo hang 1872159, a problem with the login password immediately triggering suspend 1897185, and then the reinstallation crashes 1871268 (which happen when reinstalling to try to get rid of all this) appeared with the last two Ubuntu updater packages, since mid-September. The last of these also included an nVidia driver update, which is believed to affect at least one of these issues. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835660 Title: initramfs unpacking failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1835660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
