[Bug 1899249] Re: OpenZFS writing stalls, under load

2020-10-11 Thread Richard Laager
Did you destroy and recreate the pool after disabling dedup? Otherwise
you still have the same dedup table and haven’t really accomplished
much.

Re: [Bug 1899414] [NEW] schroot fails for source chroots with 'std:bad_alloc' on groovy

2020-10-11 Thread Roger Leigh
Hi Alex,

Looking any
https://gitlab.com/codelibre/schroot/-/blame/schroot-1.6/sbuild/sbuild-util.cc#L757

and this commit:

https://gitlab.com/codelibre/schroot/-/commit/83bc6d3f99b1aa04a4864faeeb867ed09bae8e55

It looks like if this hasn’t been picked up, it should be. Maybe a new schroot
point release is in order; schroot isn’t currently a high priority, I’m afraid.

Kind regards,
Roger

[Bug 1883898] Re: version 3.20.6 turns off plugin requirement for most printers

2020-10-11 Thread shivani mandora
Hi Zdohnal,

We have reverted the changes only for the printers which are part of
plugin.spec file which are few old laserjets printers and which require
plugins to print.

Could you provide the list of printers on which you think plugins are needed?
I will verify and revert.

We have not verified on all the devices because of the device
availability because few of them are very old.

[Bug 1899206] Re: Tweaktool Keyboard “Additional Layout Options” not persisting on USB keyboard unplug/reconnect

2020-10-11 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I set gnome-shell as the affected package for now, since a theory would
be that the changed behavior is related to some upgrade of that package.

@Weston: To find out, can you please downgrade gnome-shell temporarily:

sudo apt install gnome-shell=3.36.1-5ubuntu1 gnome-shell-
common=3.36.1-5ubuntu1

Then reboot and let us know if the issue is still present.

uninstalling all of these:

'gsconn...@andyholmes.github.io',
'remove-dropdown-arr...@mpdeimos.com',
'status-area-horizontal-spac...@mathematical.coffee.gmail.com',

'transparent-top-...@zhanghai.me'

and then restart. If the high memory usage continues then please check
the 'Extensions' app, and check that there is no subdirectory in your
home directory called:

  ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions

[Bug 1899304] Re: Linux 5.4.0-48 causes GPU lockup, huge performance drop, makes GNOME desktop fail to start and games going from 70fps to 7fps, slow file loading, audio issues

2020-10-11 Thread Thomas Debesse
I reproduce the bug with the 5.4.0-49-generic kernel from `proposed`
when running the Radeon X1950 PRO.

Note: I previously joined a dmesg log file about GPU lockup, such lockup
is not always logged but the GNOME Shell session is stuck anytime it is
started.

RE: [Bug 1899414] [NEW] schroot fails for source chroots with 'std:bad_alloc' on groovy

2020-10-11 Thread Roger Leigh
Hi Alex,This is failing
here:https://gitlab.com/codelibre/schroot/-/blob/schroot-1.6/sbuild/sbuild-util.cc#L757Is
there something unusual about the group being checked?  getgrnam_r has
returned ERANGE and schroot increased the buffer size to accommodate this until
it ran out of memory.  The cause of failure is clear but the reason is not.Are
you using LDAP, AD or is this all local users and groups?Kind regards,Roger
Leigh

That sounds correct. If the system is working correctly it will cool
down and then turn the fan off/down. So you shouldn't hear it, certainly
not at 35 degrees.

[Bug 1899410] [NEW] VPN Stopped working after installing Ubuntu patch

2020-10-11 Thread Joe
Public bug reported:

My Surfshark VPN stopped working after installing Ubuntu software updates.
I have Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS I received a pop-up on around Sept. 24 or 25 to
install updates and did so accordingly.

Since installing that set of updates I cannot connect to a VPN on this
computer.

Using Surfshark. I enter ...

sudo surfshark-vpn

I get ...

Checking for connection status...
Not connected to Surfshark VPN
Was unable to connect to VPN server. Please try another server.

I also have Protonmail VPN as a backup. When I try that with ...

sudo protonvpn connect

I get ...

Connecting to JP-FREE#2 via UDP...
[!] There was an error connecting to the ProtonVPN API.
[!] Please make sure your connection is working properly!

I have another Ubuntu computer on the same home network. It is running
18.04 LTS. Both Surfshark and Proton VPN work on that laptop. I also
have a work computer running Win7 and the Big-IP Edge VPN. That also
works without issues. Therefore, I know it's not my Router or ISP.

[Bug 1899184] Re: CPU spikes and system hangs from gnome-shell every 5-10 seconds

2020-10-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like the freezes could be a separate problem to the CPU spikes.
Because these look like input freezes:

[ 6939.689860] shallan gnome-shell[15054]: _clutter_stage_queue_event:
assertion 'CLUTTER_IS_STAGE (stage)' failed

but I don't know how that could cause high CPU.

[Bug 1866653] Re: font selection is cumbersome with a large number of fonts installed

2020-10-11 Thread Matt Khouzam
I wrote down a small investigation here. You probably already know it
though but thought it could help.

Description of issue:
when you have too many fonts,

To reproduce:
* Download a font pack, say with 1000 fonts.
* In Pinta open an image
* click on `Text`
* select the font drop down

The UI thread will hang. This makes drawing text functionally impossible
in Pinta when you have too many fonts.

On a Ryzen 7 2700:
Pinta freezes for 45 seconds when there are 2300 fonts in the system.
Opening the combobox then takes ~1:10 and is unusable as the list is larger
than the screen.

Fails on 3 different machines here all with different distributions and
versions of Pinta.

confirmed to be an issue on 1.6-2

Potential hint?
I am pretty certain this is a combobox issue on GTK's side and making it
virtual with a scroll would solve the problem.

[Bug 1878194] Re: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

2020-10-11 Thread Ben O'Steen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794

Noticed that I couldn't use my headset mic on any apps in the past month, but
the above reports are describing the same behavioural issues as I am seeing soI
think I am hitting the same problem.

Using Sennheisser HD 4.40BT headphones on a System76 Gazelle. Connects default
audio through headphones with the A2DP profile as expected when connecting
through BT, but the Internal Microphone stays selected for input. Trying to
select the HD4.4 microphone setting does nothing, and no signal of any kind
comes through the input.

Switching to the HFP/HSP profile also leads to a break in audio, and
after the A2DP setting is shown as unavailable until I wipe the userland
pulse configs. It cuts off the audio through the headset and ends up in
a bad configuration where I have to turn BT off and on again to
reconnect and when it does, the configuration is stuck on HFP/HSP and in
mono.

No audio through the headset mic can be picked up through any
pulseaudio-enabled monitors, all showing zero input with whatever
configuration or set-up I can muster.

If you can reproduce the blinking with only Ubuntu packages then please
tell us which packages.

If you can't reproduce the blinking with only Ubuntu packages then we

[Bug 1899308] Re: failure to boot groovy daily (again)

2020-10-11 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

This is either a duplicate or return of
  - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1883040
  - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1886148

Most probably "groovy daily won't boot anymore on some older BIOS boxes"
or the 1883040 bug, as it's impacting only my older slow boxes (but
  it's also different).

thumb-drive has been successfully used in QA live & install tests,
  however it won't boot on

  hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
  hp dc7900 (c2d-e8400, 4gb, intel 4 series integrated i915)

The last timing issue also impacted d755-5 (older dell optiplex 755)
when dc7700 was impacted, but that booted successfully this ISO.

I see thumb-drive flash as it tries to boot, eventually it stops
flashing, but no boot. At least 6 attempts made to boot, thumb-drive
being tested on another 2x d755 boxes..

+ (ISO written by mkusb/dus & gnome-disks [#11] is identical)
+
  ** Expected result

  It boots & is usable

2020-10-11 Thread Pablo Pazos
Have this issue on Mint 19.3 XFCE. This is a pain. Not sure but it seems
at some point in time the option to auto-arrange or manually arrange
icons was removed from the desktop options, so now it auto-arrange
everything on startup. moving everything to a different place every

Several programs are updated, it could be that this works now even if
the sound breaks up from time to time. I'll do some more testing.

[Bug 1886714] Re: [Broadcom BCM20702A0] Bluetooth disconnects, and then sound fails on reconnect

2020-10-11 Thread John Erling Blad
While waiting for a new Bluetooth dongle I messed around with some other
equipment. It seems like I can't make a Herman/Kardon Onyx 4 to fail,
which is a bit strange. Tried to log it with hcidump and nothing unusual
showed up. Logging avdtp gave identical results.

So just to double-check what happen when I attached my Sony headphones I
started hcidump and connected the headphone, and started playing a
streamed movie. I see the effect of the sound breaking up, but I can't
make the connection fail when hcidump is running. Usually it is enough
to provoke some glitches in the connection, then delay builds up, and
the phone disconnects. When that happen all devices using sound over USB
dies. With hcidump running is does not die.

This is really weird, as hcidump should not change the stream in any
way.
