[Bug 1891934] Re: [MIR] google-osconfig-agent

2020-10-13 Thread Didier Roche
Just answering to Seth as I am probably more familiar than Balint on this:
Yes, this pprof import without alias is only done for one purpose: exposing
/debug/pprof endpoint (with default port, no password)

Would be good to ensure that this main.go file is used in the final
binary or if this is just a debug version for local build + usage.

[Bug 1899308] Re: failure to boot groovy daily (again)

2020-10-13 Thread sudodus
Hi Chris,

Please test Ubuntu Desktop (standard Ubuntu) Groovy version dated Okt 13
08:36 from zsync,

- '20201013.1' in the testing tracker

$ ls -l groovy-desktop-amd64.iso
-rw--- 1 sudodus sudodus 2894153728 okt 13 08:36 groovy-desktop-amd64.iso

$ sha256sum groovy-desktop-amd64.iso

groovy-desktop-amd64.iso

This iso file works for me, also in my son's old HP Elitebook 8560p
(where the current Lubuntu iso file fails).

If the booting is flaky try either to shutdown and wait for several
seconds before booting *or* reboot. (The computer may act differently in
these two cases.)

[Bug 1899731] [NEW] Yaru gtk and icon update for focal backported from groovy

2020-10-13 Thread Frederik Feichtmeier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * Focal users will soon have their yaru themes mismatched in snaps and
debs

 * yaru-theme-gtk and yaru-theme-icon includes changes for button sizes
in groovy, gtk-common-themes will be updated with the updated yaru-
theme-gtk so groovies debs and snaps look consistent but this will leave
focal deb and snaps incosistent, so focals debs also need an update.

 * Backporting the yaru gtk theme from groovy to focal will fix this, the SHELL
theme (yaru-theme-gnome-shell) however should NOT be backported, because the
gnome shell version is different and thus the JavaScript components of
gnome-shell would then not match the theme any more. The icon theme however,
can also be backported if wanted

[Test Case]

 * Update gtk-common-themes from
https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/gtk-common-
themes/-/jobs/937763/artifacts/browse in focal and see how gtk debs like
nautilus look different in button sizing than snap-store aka ubuntu
software

* install the https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/releases/tag/20.10.6.1 and
see how now the deb and snaps look the same

[Regression Potential]

 * no regression potential unless the gnome shell theme is also
backported which should NOT happen

[Other Info]

 * The updates were necessary for groovy, because having gtk3 themes with
different button sizes than adwaita creates issues with sizes, see
https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/pull/2361 for further issues linked

** Affects: yaru-theme (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1898603] Re: Kernel Ubuntu 5.4.0-48.52-generic sound broken - headphones detected as output, not speakers

2020-10-13 Thread Avery Tarasov
Hi Daniel, so I deleted the pulse config, and rebooted, but amazingly my
stupid BIOS doesn't have an option to disable the sound.

Now regardless of the kernel I go into for the output device it shows
"dummy output" and the sound doesn't work. I guess the config is broken
from the "rm -r ~/.config/pulse*" command. Any idea how to fix or reset
things without using BIOS? Now not able to use any sound at all
regardless of kernel

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This was likely caused by:
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the

you want to investigate this yourself the log files in

[Bug 1855757] Re: [nvidia] Background image corrupted after standby or resume from suspend

2020-10-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Wolf,

Most likely the staggered rollout of mutter 3.36.6 has not reached you
yet. Just check the version of package libmutter-6-0 you have installed.
If it is 3.36.6 or higher then perhaps open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug mutter

And please open a separate bug for each issue.

[Bug 1899721] [NEW] Dell XPS 9300 stops responding

2020-10-13 Thread Kim Pepper
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on a new Dell XPS 13 9300 a few weeks ago and
have been experiencing a number of hangs, where keyboard and mouse stop
responding, requiring a reboot.

I have two LG 27" monitors connected, one of which acts as a usb hub for
an external apple keyboard and trackpad.

I've attached a journal from the last boot that crashed using

  journalctl -b -1 --no-hostname -k > dmesg.txt

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Kim

[Bug 1855757] Re: [nvidia] Background image corrupted after standby or resume from suspend

2020-10-13 Thread Wolf
nvidia 340 driver, GT218M / 3100NVS card on HP 8440p laptop,
System: focal

Have still the "corrupted desktop" problem; changing to "proposed" made
that I could no longer resume from hibernate. With "proposed", screen
would power on back light for a few seconds and then remain dark.

Unticking the "proposed" box with update luckily led to a resuming
system again.

[Bug 1899308] Re: failure to boot groovy daily (again)

2020-10-13 Thread Chris Guiver
It's been a ~three hours since my last comment (#29)
and the thumb-drive no longer boots on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

I booted it with *live* to test for http://launchpad.net/bugs/1899719
where I quote myself on saying ot occurred on 3 boxes; the purpose of
this boot was to see if this box was one of them... but it won't boot??

I ejected thumb-drive, re-inserted, flashing of thumb-drive indicates to
me (subjectively) it's being read, then ignored & hdd of 'recent'
install loads (and fast-flashing stops on thumb-drive)

thumb-drive boots on other devices still, tested on
- hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)

[Bug 1899036] Re: failed to build silo: failed to compile /usr/share/fwupd/quirks.d/tpm.quirk

2020-10-13 Thread Mario Limonciello
This to me is either a bug in libxmlb or in gwyddion.

- If it's in libxmlb it's that it's not accepting formats with wrong
mimetypes. This actually might be improved in a newer libxmlb, the
0.2.1 release has this specifically:
https://github.com/hughsie/libxmlb/commit/3101baad938d63f26cda7e3296875adcde282f60

- If it's in gwyddion it's too liberal of a mime type match.

The newer libxmlb is not yet packaged however.

[Bug 1850089] Re: iwlwifi fails with linux-image-4.15.0-1059-oem

2020-10-13 Thread Rex Tsai
Hi, Peter

The backport-iwlwifi-dkms is the offical supported version, that we
recommended you to use.

Somehow, you receive an OLD image with a non-supported version of dkms.
We would like to find out what was the version of the image you are
using, could you run `ubuntu-report show`? or bto.xml in the recovery
partition or provide the Serial Number of your machine (sudo dmidecode)?

Thanks

[Bug 1899726] [NEW] Fix system reboot when disconnecting WiFi

2020-10-13 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Hardware triggrs reboot when disconnecting WiFi connection.

[Fix]
There's a DMA bug in Intel WiFi 9000 needs to be limits to 6 RX queue
max.

[Test]
With the patch applied, a 1000 times of connect/disconnect loop doesn't
bring the system down.

[Regression Potential]
Not that I can think of. Hypothetically reducing RX queue rings will
reduce the RX speed, but the wireless transfter is a lot slower then DMA
operation, so we won't see any difference.

[Bug 1899720] Re: Gnome takes MORE THAN 20 SECONDS to open a folder

2020-10-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like nautilus is blocked waiting for one or more slow mounts.
Most likely that's a network mount, so try removing any of those
temporarily. Less likely it's a local disk failure.

Please also check that the problem is not high CPU by running 'top'.

If you can't find the source of the problem then please:

 1. Reboot to create a fresh system log.

 2. Reproduce the problem once.

 3. Immediately run:

journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

- - this is minor, once fixed it's gone, also not all users will need sound (it
can be fixed as explained)
+ - this is minor, once fixed it's gone, also not all users will need sound &
can be easily fixed as outlined. Most QA installs I don't re-use, but I do on
occasion in support, I can't recall muted-sound reappearing (though most times
I'd not use audio)
  - it appears to be box specific, and occurring only on some older boxes
  - this was filed with Lubuntu, but as initially noticed on Xubuntu (I've
explored it before, but comments only made on IRC)
  - filed on kernel but could be pulseaudio, alsa or other?

[Bug 1899720] [NEW] Gnome takes MORE THAN 20 SECONDS to open a folder

2020-10-13 Thread Glen Byram
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04, Ubuntu has become UNUSABLE. When I
try to open e.g. my home folder, or "New Window" from the file tool in
the app bar, it can take 15, 20 or 30 seconds for anything to happen.
Then sometimes the response is instant. Something is seriously seriously
wrong with your software.

[Bug 1558886] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in _clutter_input_device_reset_scroll_info()

2020-10-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm still not sure what to make of this bug. The fix linked upstream:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1345

is supposedly in mutter 3.35.2 but there are plenty of these crashes
after that:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/fda12af21f79f7f1e23ab3cc830da47eca410baa

So it seems like at least one of those should not be linked here. That
said, if we don't see any more crashes in 3.36.6 and 3.38.1 then there's
nothing left to do and resolving the confusion is not required.

Why does iptables behave differently when the HWE kernel v5 is installed

[Bug 1894217] Re: 2.8.2 deploy and commission fails corrupted bootorder variable detected

2020-10-13 Thread Ryan Harper
Thanks for the logs Dann,

The error comes from efibootmgr itself; so I don't think this is the
same issue. You can open a new bug; but it still looks like a
firmware/platform issue.

efibootmgr claims there are 5 entries; and at least after a grub
install, there is only one. What happened to all of those entries?

BootCurrent: 0003
Timeout: 10 seconds
BootOrder: ,0003,0004,0005,0006,0001
Boot* ubuntu
HD(1,GPT,0937ffdf-628c-4161-8b2f-5920235669c6,0x800,0x10)/File(\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi)

This bug and curtin and the change that's merged prevents curtin from
removing the BootCurrent entry, 0003; which it did not; otherwise we'd
see:

Removing duplicate EFI entry

[Bug 1899710] [NEW] upgrade to 20.04 interrupted, third-party ppas reappear after being removed

2020-10-13 Thread Devin Green
Public bug reported:

I'm attempting to upgrade to 20.04. I've found lots of people with the
same error

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This was likely caused by:
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If
you want to investigate this yourself the log files in
'/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade.
Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

The advice seems to be to remove third-party ppas. Nowhere on the internet can
I find a reliable method for doing this. I'm missing the most crucial piece of
information, how do you even know which ppas are third-party? I've found
multiple places where people got the same error, and someone said "This ppa is
third-party" but literally zero of them explained how they know that, or how I
could figure that out. I guess I'm just supposed to memorize a list or
something?

I have used the Software Update GUI. I go through, remove each PPA. They
reappear when I close it. They sometimes stay gone, but they are
restored when the do-release-upgrade command fails.

I've used ppa-purge. For most of the ppas this just doesn't run. I
directly write in the URL from sources.list.d, and the computer says it
doesn't exist. Even for the ones that don't return that error and claim
to have removed the ppa, there is no evidence that anything worked. They
are still there when I open the gui. do-release-upgrade still doesn't
run.

I found a few places that say I should solve this by removing one thing
at a time, try to upgrade, each time and eventually it'll run once I've
removed the right thing, but this obviously cannot work if the ppas
regenerate.

Am I barking up the wrong tree? Where do I even start to figure out this
problem?

[Bug 1863434] Re: 20.04 grub menu not visible

2020-10-13 Thread Fritz Hudnut
@Ishrak:

Thanks for the follow-up and the interest in the problem(s) with grub2
in ubtuntu flavorings. When I first signed on to this bug report I had
this "grub menu is gone" problem, but that's because I was looking for
it in an "EFI boot disk" wherein I would option key on boot to OSX boot
manager, select the appropriate EFI disk, and then the grub menu would
appear and I could select my chosen distro.

When or before this bug hit, grub menu was removed from the EFI disk,
and took awhile to find it with cold booting w/o keystroke . . . grub
menu reappeared, but then the new problem became that with every ubuntu
upgrade to grub2 packages, that new list and menu gets removed, gone
totally and only one of the ubuntu choices will boot . . . until I get
SG2 disk and boot to OpenSUSE and run their os-prober on the console,
then grub menu is again fine until ubuntu decides to "upgrade" grub2 . .
. again removing the menu listings and connections to grub, no "welcome
to grub" . . . .

\So I guess in that sense I still have the "grub menu is not appearing"
problem. I was mostly in 20.10 and the problem is still happening, now
I have Lu 20.10, LM 20.04, and new install of Deb 11 Testing, which also
seemed to mess with grub yesterday . . . . I'll take a look at #48 and
see if it makes any difference in my situation.

[Bug 1895878] Re: [SRU] Integer parsing failure on armhf blocks autopkgtests on focal

2020-10-13 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

- Other php SRUs end up blocked from migration due to a test case in php-
- parser that fails due to an integer format mismatch.
-
+ Other PHP SRUs are being blocked due to test failures in php-parser.
+ The test case failures appear to be due to irregularities with integer
+ parsing particular to the test framework rather than identifying actual
+ bugs.

  [Test Case]
  1. Create lxc container for ubuntu-focal
  2. Install php-parser
  3. Run autopkgtest php-parser -- null

The testsuite should pass but it does not, and fails with several
invalid token lexer cases starting with and similar to this one:

  1) PhpParser\CodeParsingTest::testParse with data set
"tmp/autopkgtest.eZ6NuZ/build.Ar8/src/test/code/parser/errorHandling/lexerErrors.test#1"
 ('Lexer errors (/tmp/autopkgtestest)', Binary String:
0x3c3f7068700a0...032343b, Binary String: 0x556e657870656...0290a29, null)
RangeException: The lexer returned an invalid token (id=320, value=)

  /usr/share/php/PhpParser/ParserAbstract.php:216
  /usr/share/php/PhpParser/ParserAbstract.php:158
  /tmp/autopkgtest.eZ6NuZ/build.Ar8/src/test/PhpParser/CodeParsingTest.php:58
  /tmp/autopkgtest.eZ6NuZ/build.Ar8/src/test/PhpParser/CodeParsingTest.php:21

+ The build system also runs the test suite, so an alternative way to
+ reproduce the failure is to do a package build of php-parser in lxc.
+

  [Regression Potential]

- Since this is a testsuite fix for integer parsing on armhf, the two
- things to watch for would be a) issues relating to the testsuite, or b)
- issues particular to armhf (especially traceable to integer parsing
- behavior). However, in the first case, the testsuite's behavior would
- crop up only during building / migrating in the archive and would not
- produce user-visible effects. In the second case, integer parsing
- issues already exist in released code so would not be a true regression,
- the test case only exposes them - by preventing other php packages from
- migrating.

  [Discussion]

php-parser's autopkgtest has been failing in focal on armhf for some
  time:

  http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/p/php-parser/focal/armhf

The test failure is due to an integer format mismatch. We spotted this
issue on groovy and flagged it for upstream:

  https://github.com/nikic/PHP-Parser/issues/662

There doesn't appear to be a fix identified yet. We addressed it in
groovy by disabling the faulty tests (the one listed in this bug, and
the one in LP: #1878102), and that may be a low-risk way to address it
  for focal, too.
