Dear Jeremy,

Hello,

My computer is running very well now because your team mate You-Sheng
Yang sent me the information.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1886911 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886911

(I ran "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade", so it updated as "Linux
5.4.0-58-generic". Somehow, my old one's version was 4.15.0.)

Could you please convey my thanks to You-Sheng Yang because I cannot reply to
his/her email?
I appreciate your team's support.

Thank you so much for your great help.
Regards,

Noriko

Dear Jeremy,

Hello,
Thank you for contacting me.

I think that I didn't let Windows be running. However, I need further
technical support.

This morning the laptop didn't want to boot. When I push the start switch, my
laptop shut off after around 20 seconds.
I attempted many times, but it didn't boot.
Eventually, the laptop could boot, but it is obvious my laptop has issue.
I already contacted to Dell Linux support team, so they will help me.

Thank you so much for your kindness.
Regards,

Noriko

This is happening to me on Ubuntu MATE 20.04.1 with Firefox 84.0.

Like this user on Ask Ubuntu, I too have disabled media.webspeech.synth

After seeing he has no answers, came here to file a bug, found this.

[Bug 1904974] Re: calamares selected wrong timezone

2020-12-25 Thread Chris Guiver
Recent installs I've had it select the correct timezone, but calamares
is reporting me in different cities.

Once today it reported me in Melbourne AU, I exited calamares as I had a
mounted drive preventing full-disk install, on re-entry of calamares my
location had changed to Sydney (same timezone, but different city).

Reboot & re-install (another test) & it's reporting me in Sydney again,
but ask firefox my GeoIP location and it reports Melbourne as my primary
box does.

Reporting the correct TIMEZONE but wrong city is minor, but may worry
end-users, esp. those not good with geography. (last qa-test install
before today had me in Hobart, still correct timezone but wrong island).

We shouldn't use #322 because it's equivalent of keeping polling the
touchpad.

Although it's part of a patch set, it's rather an independent patch
because it's filling a missing implementation of the ACPI specs. I guess
Windows have already implemented it and that's why the touchpad works
for Windows.

[Bug 1909335] [NEW] crash when grub-install

2020-12-25 Thread Olivier
Public bug reported:

crash when grub-install this has happened when trying to install on a
pre-existing disk partition where ubuntu was already loadded. I have
formatted it. I have done this to solve a sound issue as with the
previous installation sound did not work properly. This is a bit
extreme, but there was nothing critical on this disk partition.Worth to
note there is already some other linux installation on the same hard
drive but in different partition.

[Bug 1909322] Re: bug

2020-12-25 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!

[Bug 1909324] Re: Lenovo V14-IIL 82C4 Touchpad Not Working

2020-12-25 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Note: I do not think a BIOS update will help with this issue, but I
recommend you run anyway:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/lenovo-v-series-laptops/v14-iil/downloads/ds542139-bios-update-

Apparently, this needs some sort of Intel "SIO" driver on Windows. I'm
not sure what the equivalent is in the Linux kernel or if it exists.

2020-12-25 Thread koen
Touchpad works without workaround on
Ubuntu 20.04 with Kernel 5.9.16
Same goes for ubuntu 20.10.
Easiest way is to use the workaround, install mainline(alternative for ukuu)
install kernel 5.9.16
Reboot and relax

[Bug 1893513] Re: man page of lsof command broken

2020-12-25 Thread Eric Desrochers
Fix has been uploaded in F/G and I have pinged sil2100 for SRU approval.

Note that the approval might have to wait after the holidays, but it's
fine, it's low priority.

It's an annoyance for sure, but no core functionality is really broken.

- Eric

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- One cannot consult the 'lsof' manpage:
+ One cannot consult the 'lsof' manpage in various ways:
  * Using CLI: man lsof
  * Ubuntu Manpage: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search.py?q=lsof

  You will notice the manpage is missing for F and G.

  Workarounds would be:

  * Use '--help' parameter
  * Use a search engine to find an 'lsof' online man page.

  This has been first introduced with the new upstream release of
  '4.93.2+dfsg-1'.

   lsof | 4.93.2+dfsg-1   | focal
   lsof | 4.93.2+dfsg-1   | groovy

  [Test Case]

   == CLI ==
  * On an F/G system, perform "man lsof"

  It will errors out as follows:
  "
  man: can't open /usr/share/man/./version: No such file or directory
  No manual entry for lsof
  "

   == Ubuntu Manpage ==
  * Browse the Ubuntu Manpage:
  http://manpages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search.py?q=lsof

  No 'lsof' manpage is found for F/G.

  [Where problem could occur]

  If a problem arise, it will only affect the lsof manpage.

  The fix adds a build dependency 'groff-base'[0] that is found in 'main'
  for all affected release above and pretty much at the same level of code
  base.

  debian:
   groff-base | 1.22.4-5  | unstable

  ubuntu:
   groff-base | 1.22.4-4build1 | focal
   groff-base | 1.22.4-5   | groovy
   groff-base | 1.22.4-5   | hirsute

  [0] - https://www.gnu.org/software/groff/manual/groff.html#man

  [Other info]

  In theory, I would possibly wait for the next bug fixing SRU as an
  opportunity to merge that change, but according to the d/changelog,
  there is not much frequent SRU(s) done for 'lsof', so we might have to
  just fix 'lsof' for this particular case which can be an annoyance for
  certain Ubuntu users.

  The package has been fixed in Debian upstream '4.93.2+dfsg-1.1' and
  auto-synced in Hirsute. It is now needing an SRU for F/G.

  Debian bug:
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=950601

  [Original Description]

  When trying to view the manpage of lsof, this happens:

  desktop ~ $ LANG=C man lsof
  man: can't open /usr/share/man/./version: No such file or directory
  No manual entry for lsof

  The man page is present at /usr/share/man/man8/lsof.8.gz.

  This:  zless /usr/share/man/man8/lsof.8.gz
  reveals that there is the line ".so ./version" at the beginning, with the
file "version" not existing.

  Other man pages don't seem to be affected.

[Bug 1879633] Re: Killer 500s (QCA6390) WLAN/BT [17cb:1101] unavailable

2020-12-25 Thread E L
Hi,

I installed Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS on my XPS9310.

Enabled developper updates:

with
deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ focal-proposed main restricted
universe multiverse

and then followed these instructions:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1879633/comments/43

after reboot the wifi was detected.
Unfortunately this is not stable and crashes either immediately or after a few
minutes of usage.
And usually the laptop freezes after a while and becomes very very hot.

Here the kernel logs

[Bug 1909264] Re: Problem with ‘mysql-server-core-8.0_8.0.22-0ubuntu0.20.04.3_armhf.deb

2020-12-25 Thread Ernest Wagner
I completed the build from source and discovered that the problem lies
with the cmake/make rules from Oracle as the build from source resulted
in the build of myself as a shared object instead of an executable.

My apology. This issue can be closed.

[Bug 1893513] Re: man page of lsof command broken

2020-12-25 Thread Eric Desrochers
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  One cannot consult the 'lsof' manpage:
  * Using CLI: man lsof
  * Ubuntu Manpage: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search.py?q=lsof

  You will notice the manpage is missing for F and G.

  Workarounds would be:

  * Use --help' parameter
  * Use a search engine to find an 'lsof' online man page.

  This has been first introduced with the new upstream release of
  '4.93.2+dfsg-1'.

   lsof | 4.93.2+dfsg-1   | focal
   lsof | 4.93.2+dfsg-1   | groovy

  [Test Case]

   == CLI ==
- * On an F/G system
- * Perform: "man lsof"
+ * On an F/G system, perform "man lsof"

  It will errors out as follows:
  "

  No manual entry for lsof
  "

  * Browse the Ubuntu Manpage:
  http://manpages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search.py?q=lsof

  No 'lsof' manpage is found for F/G.

  [Where problem could occur]

  If a problem arise, it will only affect the lsof manpage.

  The fix adds a build dependency 'groff-base'[0] that is found in 'main'

[Bug 1875717] Re: Opening file from Samba share results in Document in Use

2020-12-25 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
@wxl Walter,

While testing Ubuntu 21.04 on the RASP PI4 I decided to install the Lubuntu
desktop and then tried PCManFM-QT and then the opening of the Samba share files
worked fine with no error messages.
I then played around with a few PC boxes and got the same results after
installing the Lubuntu desktop on the Ubuntu build.

Ref your comments in #20 re file locks I agree - but in this case I am running
a private LAN with no other users so the locked file is an incorrect message
i.e these files are not in use by anyone - so either LibreOffice or PCManFM-QT
are sending the wrong message to each other.. will do some further testing and
comparisons with other file managers -

[Bug 1909321] [NEW] package libreoffice-gnome (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/liblosessioninstalllo.so', which is also in package libreoffi

2020-12-25 Thread Alan Cheek
Public bug reported:

I installed 'unity desktop before upgrading Libreoffice and it all went
pear shaped. I tried it twice, thinking it may very well be my error.
But it appears to be an equal opportunity error.

[Bug 1909320] [NEW] ngettext issue with deluge-web and deluge-console

2020-12-25 Thread Myles Markevich
Public bug reported:

There is an issue with deluge-web and deluge-console that produces the
following error:

Unable to initialize gettext/locale!
 'ngettext'
 Traceback (most recent call last):
   File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/deluge/i18n/util.py", line 118, in
setup_translat>
 builtins.__dict__['_n'] = builtins.__dict__['ngettext']
 KeyError: 'ngettext'

This doesn't seem to be a really big deal for deluge-web but it makes
deluge-console in particular really hard to use.

This bug has already been fixed in the deluge development branch. I
would like to propose that we backport this fix to Ubuntu 20.04 to
correct the errors that currently come up during normal use.

Here's the commit which fixes the problem:
https://git.deluge-torrent.org/deluge/commit/?h=develop&id=d6c96d629183e8bab2167ef56457f994017e7c85

And here's a forum thread discussing the topic:
https://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtopic.php?t=55673

[Bug 1908638] Re: mounts to polydirs not working

2020-12-25 Thread Jochen Sprickerhof
Hi Evan,

thanks for opening the bug, it is indeed a result of the
0014-Don-t-compare-source-when-checking-if-it-s-already-m.patch.
As far as I understand polydirs are implemented as mount overlays and so /data2
in your example is a mount point already.
You can test this with this example using the same functions as libpam-mount:

// sudo apt install gcc libmount-dev; cc -o lsmount lsmount.c -lmount;
./lsmount

#include

int main()
{
struct libmnt_context *ctx;
struct libmnt_table *table;
struct libmnt_iter *iter;
struct libmnt_fs *fs;

ctx = mnt_new_context();
if (ctx == NULL)
return -1;
if (mnt_context_get_mtab(ctx, &table) != 0)
goto out;
iter = mnt_new_iter(MNT_ITER_BACKWARD);
if (iter == NULL)
goto out;

while (mnt_table_next_fs(table, iter, &fs) == 0)
printf("source:\t%s target: %s\n", mnt_fs_get_source(fs),
mnt_fs_get_target(fs));
 out:
mnt_free_context(ctx);
return 0;
}

It should list /data2 as a target if run as the user with the polydir.
As far as I understand, mounting something on top of the polydir would hide the
polydir.

Can you give some more background of your setup?

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-12-25 Thread Coiby Xu
** Description changed:

+ Update (#296)
+ =
+
+ The latest kernel tree
+ (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git) has
+ the complete solution to fix this bug. So we can expect kernel v5.11 to
+ fix this issue without any additional work. Before the release of v5.11,
+ you are suggested to use #189 to save your touchpad.
+
+ The complete solution is three patches,
+  - 47a0001436352c9853d72bf2071e85b316d688a2 ("pinctrl: amd: remove debounce
filter setting in IRQ type setting")
+ - 06abe8291bc31839950f7d0362d9979edc88a666 ("pinctrl: amd: fix incorrect way
to disable debounce filter")
+  - 8dcb7a15a585b6d0fee15751ce11d7a68cfedd56 ("gpiolib: acpi: Take into
account debounce settings")
+
+ The first two patches has reached the stable tree. If the last one is
+ also backported to LTS kernel, you won't need to install kernel 5.11.
+ But I don't know when this will happen.

[Bug 1909316] [NEW] Unable to boot with F-gkeop kernel

2020-12-25 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

Issue found with 5.4.0-1008.9 Focal GKEOP

The procedure to deploy a F-gkeop system for the test:
1. Deploy a Focal gcp instance
2. Enable proposed, install the linux-gkeop and linux-modules-extra-gkeop
package (bug 1909232)
3. Modify the grub to make it boot with the 5.4.0-1008.9 gkeop kernel instead
of the default 5.4.0-1029-gcp kernel

When trying to reboot to this kernel with GRUB default being modified as:
GRUB_DEFAULT="gnulinux-advanced-dc7ce673-d33f-4a3b-bce1-fff7064b9ab4>gnulinux-5.4.0-1008-gkeop-advanced-dc7ce673-d33f-4a3b-bce1-fff7064b9ab4"

It looks like the instance will hang. You won't be able to ssh into it
anymore.

Command "gcloud compute instances list" shows it's still RUNNING

I can't connect to the console to see what's going on there:
  $ gcloud compute connect-to-serial-port
f-lgkeop-gkeop-5-4-0-e2std2-aio-dio-bugs --zone=us-west1-a
  channel 0: open failed: connect failed: The serial-port-enable metadata
attribute is not set on this VM. It should be set to 'yes' to enable serial
port access.
  Connection to ssh-serialport.googleapis.com closed.

This is blocking the Focal GKEOP SRU tests.

[Bug 1909026] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.10 package out of date

2020-12-25 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Ubuntu releases don't get new upstream releases after the Ubuntu release
has gone out. Use the PPA if you want newer versions of Geany:
https://launchpad.net/~geany-dev/+archive/ubuntu/ppa.

[Bug 1909297] Re: cups missing write permission (for sendmessage operation) in apparmor

2020-12-25 Thread lotuspsychje
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1909297

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
