[Bug 1733083] Re: trackpoint slow and hard to move

2021-01-08 Thread Martin Leopold
Hi,
On my HP EliteBook 840 G2 I'm seeing the same issue. I saw the issue on Ubuntu
20.04, but upgrading to 20.10 made no difference. It was suggested[1] to switch
to the 'evdev' input driver. So I installed the 'xserver-xorg-input-evdev'
package and added the following file:

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/5-trackpoint.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev trackpoint"
MatchIsPointer "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
MatchProduct "PS/2 Generic Mouse"
Driver "evdev"
EndSection

This seems to make my tracpoint usable again.

- Martin

[Bug 1877844] Re: [SRU] borgbackup version 1.1.15 and 1.0.13

2021-01-08 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna
** Summary changed:

- [SRU] data corruption issue in all versions before 1.1.11
+ [SRU] borgbackup version 1.1.15 and 1.0.13

** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]
- * Data is corrupted on some specific conditions
+ * Data is corrupted on some specific conditions, upstream asked to backport
1.1.15 that fixes some high ram usage and this corruption bug (not for focal,
already fixed)

  [ Regression Potential ]
  * Really low, the package has an autopkgtestsuite that runs thousand of
tests, and the fix is since one year part of upstream code

  [ Test Case ]
  * Backup some TB of data, and try to read the index, it should be not
corrupted

  [ Other info ]
Per the "important notes" section of the borg docs:

  https://borgbackup.readthedocs.io/en/stable/changes.html

"Pre-1.1.11 potential index corruption / data loss issue
A bug was discovered in our hashtable code, see issue #4829. The code is used
for the client-side chunks cache and the server-side repo index.

Although borg uses the hashtables very heavily, the index corruption did
not happen too frequently, because it needed specific conditions to
  happen.

Data loss required even more specific conditions, so it should be rare
(and also detectable via borg check). [..]"

Theoretically affects all Ubuntu releases before 20.04 (focal.)

I know this is a universe package, but if anyone was up for an SRU that
  would be fantastic..

[Bug 1910537] Re: incorrect audio-EDID on HDMI, blocking audio transmission over HDMI

2021-01-08 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Sorry. I had connected the device to a second (newer hardware) notebook
computer with same Lubuntu to check, whether it is a problem of just
this particular machine or a common problem.

xrandr2 attached.

The Lubuntu monitor settings tool names the HDMI screen „BMD HDMI”, (BMD
seems to mean Blackmagic Design) and thus seems to recognize the device.

[Bug 1852002] Re: Desktop frozen for 30 seconds after Nvidia driver crash

2021-01-08 Thread Albert Zeyer
I think I have a very related (or the same) error (or multiple errors).
A lot of logs here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1236721/desktop-hung-up-freeze-gpuwatchdog-segfault-nvidia-frontend-close

(Not sure if they are all the same cause, or different... I think they
are the same.)

When you search the Internet for "NVRM: Xid 31" errors, you will find
quite a lot of results, also a lot of recent results.

In my (most recent) case, I have Nvidia driver 450.80.02, and Linux
kernel 5.4.0-59.

[Bug 1857552] Re: [81NX, Realtek ALC285, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2021-01-08 Thread Nils Hondong
I have the same bug with a HP Spectre X360 15-eb0024ng

Already tried to change options in alsa-config:

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

options snd-hda-intel model=auto
and
options snd-hda-intel model=alc295-hp-x360

Still no sound at the speaker. Headset and internal micro working

I think it is "just" an error setting the correct output device.

Can anyone tell if this BIOS works or not from the version info?

(it did seem reliable for many months before starting to fail recently
which is a bit odd if it's a BIOS bug...)

What's the best way to test a key before grub: just see if I can go into

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

This has started happening in the last month or so. I have a clean LTS
20.04.1 that is kept up to date.

On boot, the menu is presented to select what to boot, but quite often
(currently about 90% of boots), NONE OF THE KEYS WORK, so I cannot
  select what to boot!

Randomly, sometimes the keys do work.

This used to work fine all the time, so maybe it's a fairly recent
  change to grub?

I've seen various other similar bugs with various potential solutions,
and I've tried most of them with no luck.

To me, there seems to be some kind of timing issue that causes the
keyboard not to be detected properly some of the time, and is making
  boot-choice IMPOSSIBLE!

This is a critical bug for me, and it's making it impossible for me to
boot into Windows (in my dual boot), which is making the computer almost
  useless for me!

As a note, I would hope that an LTS release *never* changed grub unless
_ritical_ as without a working grub, I cannot use Ubuntu! Thankfully,
Ubuntu is my default, so I can always boot into that, and the keyboard
is always fine there, but this is a very annoying problem that's making
my PC only half-useful, so please can you give this urgent attention and
  fix it, thanks!!

As I don't really know what the cause of the problem is, all the
information that I can give is that I installed the updates that were
given. Prior to this the graphics were working properly. I can only
access a single screen size and if I try to change it I am told that
Full Screen is not available in this profile which is marked at present,
nvida. if I try to initiate another profile I either get the same
message or that profile is not available. I am sorry that I can give

[Bug 1897378] Please test proposed package

2021-01-08 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Gianfranco, or anyone else affected,

Accepted liblzf into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/liblzf/3.6-2~ubuntu1.20.04.1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Not invalid enough it seems. The liblzf package in focal New links to

Bill, I'm sure patches are welcome.

posting a bounty at

[Bug 1846423]

2021-01-08 Thread Bill-mair
My current assessment of this bug is that it will never be fixed because
if you use Google Calendar they have a server side fix for this already
and seeing as they sponsor development, I don't think they want it to be
fixed.

This breaks other CalDav implementations but that doesn't matter after
almost 2 years.

Have all "Mozilla" projects and products became just a Google excuse for
not being a monopoly with no real drive to fix things?

[Bug 1885344] Re: nvidia-340 340.108-0ubuntu2: nvidia-340 kernel module failed to build (oem 5.6 kernel)

2021-01-08 Thread farlander762
Don't know if this helps, but it started for me during a normal Ubuntu
kernel update (5.8.0-34-generic). This morning, 5.8.0-36-generic was
pushed down and still doesn't work.

I am still able to boot my system using 5.4.0-59-generic. I am using
the manually installed Nvidia GK208B [GeForce GT 710] driver.

I'm assuming you guys can reach me so please do if I can provide any
information.
Thanks!

[Bug 1891916] Re: virtualbox-dkms 6.1.10-dfsg-1~ubuntu1.20.04.1 fails to build with kernel 5.8

2021-01-08 Thread momcilo78
I have the same problem since upgrade. This is one of the major
applications: please consider removing Won't fix and comment on possible
solutions and workarounds

If the kernel is upgraded and virtualbox stops working there are 2 possible
choices:
1. patch the kernel
2. update virtualbox package version to latest available (6.1.16 according
to: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads)

Most likely the second option is easier, especially since the patch
version is what changed.

As for the workarounds:
1. downgrade the kernel
2. switch to upstream packages from virtualbox project itself

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1910749] [NEW] stop building nvidia dkms on kernels with no lrm

2021-01-08 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Building these modules wastes build time, and also may potentially lead to
unnecessary updates.

[Fix]
Set do_dkms_nvidia = false on amd64.mk.

[Test case]
Build test the kernel.

[Potential regression]
Missing signed bits for these modules, in case users use them somewhat, without
our support.

[Bug 769890] Re: xdg-open should open apt:// with apturl by default, not the default browser

2021-01-08 Thread Nicholas Guriev
In the described case, xdg-open in generic mode relies on the
/usr/share/applications/apturl.desktop file that is provided by the
apturl-common package, and the utility correctly calls to apturl. At
present, we may consider the bug fixed.

[Bug 560513] Re: Spaces in translated variable names break Phatch

2021-01-08 Thread peroo
Debian (0.2.7) bugs:

renaming/saving:
placeholders for "folder name", "file name" are subject to translation (e.g.
German); obviously, translated labels are applied after editing, not real
values, fails (see above)

input fields:
editing via keys right away does not work, needs clicking into field and
applies only when clicking inside filter slot after that

saving:
when re-applying function list multiple times without "overwrite existing
images" in target folder, the action list is applied for all images without
results, instead of skipping existing ones, or automatically saving as new
versions

action lists:
saving action lists inside the hidden config folder of Phatch, instead of, say,
normal "phatch" folder inside home, is unintuitive and often cumbersome to
navigate

rounding:
transparent rounded corners and opaqueness 0 not possible

[Bug 1910742] [NEW] Hirsute update: v5.10.5 upstream stable release

2021-01-08 Thread Paolo Pisati
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   v5.10.5 upstream stable release
   from git://git.kernel.org/

Linux 5.10.5
device-dax: Fix range release
ext4: avoid s_mb_prefetch to be zero in individual scenarios
dm verity: skip verity work if I/O error when system is shutting down
ALSA: pcm: Clear the full allocated memory at hw_params
io_uring: remove racy overflow list fast checks
s390: always clear kernel stack backchain before calling functions
tick/sched: Remove bogus boot "safety" check
drm/amd/display: updated wm table for Renoir
ceph: fix inode refcount leak when ceph_fill_inode on non-I_NEW inode fails
NFSv4.2: Don't error when exiting early on a READ_PLUS buffer overflow
um: ubd: Submit all data segments atomically
um: random: Register random as hwrng-core device
