[Bug 1916000] Re: don't know what to write

2021-02-17 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

[Bug 1916005] Re: gnome-shell hangs window decorations and dialogs

2021-02-17 Thread whitis
Mouse cursor works when frozen.

Actually, it looks like psensor does hang until the system starts to come back.
It does show a spike (of unknown amplitude) in CPU usage (tenfold) and CPU
temperature and there is an audible increase in fan speed. Top/gnome-terminal
also freezes.
top -d 1 -p `pgrep gnome-shell|paste -sd,`
If I run a command in a terminal that writes the date once per second and tee's
it to a file, the terminal output will freeze immediately when desktop freezes
but the timestamps in the file show it still continues to write to the file on
time. CPU pressure was not high but CPU usage was fairly high but not on all
cores simultaneously.
Duration of freeze on lightly loaded system was around 25 seconds.

Quickly switching to another console and running top shows apport and
whoopsie-upload at top of CPU usage. Turning off Settings -> Privacy ->
Problem Reporting -> Send Error reports to canonical changes nothing.
apport/whoopsie-upload still run and eat 100% of cpu.

The best place to look for how to upgrade, is the release notes for the
release you are going to, ie.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XenialXerus/ReleaseNotes

On that document is a section titled "Upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or

[Bug 1849160] Re: after deb->snap transition, chromium no longer sees local password store

2021-02-17 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Just noting here that:

snap connect chromium:password-manager-service

Is still a valid way to fix this issue if you someone still bumps into
it. I had this now on openSUSE Tumbleweed (using GNOME) where I
installed the Chromium snap after some months of having it uninstalled.
I'm not sure if it always had the problem since I use Firefox 99% of the
time, but now I noticed it was not saving my password when I asked it
to, and googled this bug report up.

Before doing the fix snap connections chromium had the "- -" ending
line, after doing that the whole line is "password-manager-service
chromium:password-manager-service :password-manager-service
manual"

[Bug 1916005] [NEW] gnome-shell hangs window decorations and dialogs

2021-02-17 Thread whitis
Public bug reported:

Desktop hangs frequently, sometimes more than once per day and can result in
loss of work.
Today I found a way to easily reproduce.
- sudo apt-get install key-mon
- start new session with nothing but gnome-terminal running. Unnecssary to
reproduce, you can have dozens of programs running.
- key-mon &
- right click on key-mon window and open settings
- enable meta key (may not be necessary)
- switch to misc tab
- Check window decoration with nothing else checked
- attempt to uncheck window decoration. Fails. Trying multiple times won't
help and may make things worse.
- Desktop is now frozen and will remain this way for an indeterminate time but
may eventually come back within a minute. If you actually had stuff running
on your machine, chances of coming back aren't great. Symptoms include:
 - psensor graph continues to update
 - cannot make terminal respond.
  - cannot drag windows
  - cannot focus windows

When it came back, one of 3 gnome shell processes previously detected
using psgrep was missing and has been replaced. This is consistent with
the screen being redrawn when it comes back.

When desktop didn't come back recently, I was able to CTRL-ALT-F3 to a console
and kill okular, freecad, gimp, key-mon, firefox, freecad-daily,openscad,
file-roller, psensor, and gnome-terminal, in that order, until there was
nothing left and still did not regain control of system. Ctrl-Alt-Del ESC
also failed (though I think I did end up causing system to reboot). System
pressure after killing okular and freecad was:
===memory
some avg10=0.00 avg60=0.00 avg300=0.00 total=0
full avg10=0.00 avg60=0.00 avg300=0.00 total=0
===cpu
some avg10=0.01 avg60=0.02 avg300=0.00 total=9348303
===io
some avg10=18.81 avg60=30.25 avg300=34.80 total=852281032
full avg10=17.43 avg60=28.42 avg300=32.91 total=795530186

I was able to reproduce this many times by turning window decorations on
and off in key-mon.

In the past, desktop freezes were frequently caused by dialog boxes
popping up including the wait of force quit dialog. I installed the
extension to disable wait-or-force quit. System still becomes severely
non-responsive when programs like firefox eat up a lot of RAM and I have
to use onetab firefox extension regularly.

[Bug 1869808] Re: reboot neutron-ovs-agent introduces a short interrupt of vlan traffic

2021-02-17 Thread Trent Lloyd
Ubuntu SRU Justification

[Impact]

- When there is a RabbitMQ or neutron-api outage, the neutron-
openvswitch-agent undergoes a "resync" process and temporarily blocks
all VM traffic. This always happens for a short time period (maybe <1
second) but in some high scale environments this lasts for minutes. If
RabbitMQ is down again during the re-sync, traffic will also be blocked
until it can connect which may be for a long period. This also affects
situations where neutron-openvswitch-agent is intentionally restarted
while RabbitMQ is down. Bug #1869808 addresses this issue and Bug
#1887148 is a fix for that fix to prevent network loops during DVR
startup.

- In the same situation, the neutron-l3-agent can delete the L3 router
(Bug #1871850)

[Test Case]

(1) Deploy Openstack Bionic-Queens with DVR and a *VLAN* tenant network
(VXLAN or FLAT will not reproduce the issue). With a standard
deployment, simply enabling DHCP on the ext_net subnet will allow VMs to
be booted directly on the ext_net provider network. "openstack subnet
set --dhcp ext_net and then deploy the VM directly to ext_net"

(2) Deploy a VM to the VLAN network

(3) Start pinging the VM from an external network

(4) Stop all RabbitMQ servers

(5) Restart neutron-openvswitch-agent

(6) Ping traffic should cease and not recover

(7) Start all RabbitMQ servers

(8) Ping traffic will recover after 30-60 seconds

[Where problems could occur]

These patches are all cherry-picked from the upstream stable branches,
and have existed upstream including the stable/queens branch for many
months and in Ubuntu all supported subsequent releases (Stein onwards)
have also had these patches for many months with the exception of
Queens.

There is a chance that not installing these drop flows during startup
could have traffic go somewhere that's not expected when the network is
in a partially setup case, this was the case for DVR and in setups where
more than 1 DVR external network port existed a network loop was
possibly temporarily created. This was already addressed with the
included patch for Bug #1869808. Checked and could not locate any other
merged changes to this drop_port logic that also need to be backported.

[Bug 1912264] Re: Provide grub 2.04 EFI backport on bionic

2021-02-17 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I somewhat want to call this a failed attempt.

Does not future-proof against any number of rebuilds.

Does not provide support for -dbg modules.

2021-02-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:

dereference and subsequently cause a crash.

2

An integer overflow error related to CipherUpdate calls can be exploited
to cause a crash.

The vulnerabilities are reported in versions prior to 1.1.1j and prior
to 1.0.2y.

Affected Software

The following software is affected by the described vulnerability.
Please check the vendor links below to see if exactly your version is
affected.

OpenSSL 1.x

[Bug 1915911] [NEW] Tomcat9 package is old version with many security issues

2021-02-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

Tomcat9 package is based on 9.0.16 on bionic and 9.0.31 on focal.

Several "Important" security vulnerabilities has been found since those
versions:
https://tomcat.apache.org/security-9.html

```
Important
A vulnerability rated as Important impact is one which could result in the
compromise of data or availability of the server. For Tomcat this includes
issues that allow an easy remote denial of service (something that is out of
proportion to the attack or with a lasting consequence), access to arbitrary
files outside of the context root, or access to files that should be otherwise
prevented by limits or authentication.
```

These packages should be updated to use at least Tomcat 9.0.40. Can you
please provide the update?

Thanks!

[Bug 1915625] Re: package sagemath-jupyter (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/applications/sagemath.desktop', which is also in package sagemath-upstream-binary

2021-02-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Hopefully helpful:

error processing archive
/tmp/apt-dpkg-install-XWrfh6/258-sagemath-jupyter_9.0-1ubuntu4_all.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/applications/sagemath.desktop', which is also
in package sagemath-upstream-binary 7.5.1~aimsppa6

The ppa-purge tool from the ppa-purge package may be helpful, if you can
get it installed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

2021-02-17 Thread Derk Willem te Bokkel
okay .. I installed focal 20.4.2.0 (xubuntu) along side hirsute on a
separate partition ..

used a edimax usb wireless dongle to do the install and updates of focal
..

added proposed to apt sources .. then installed rtl8821ce-dkms as well
as other updates

rebooted (without usb wi/fi) and rtl8821ce worked with std 5.8.0.44
kernel

then installed linux-{image,headers}-5.10.0-1014-oem .. dkms did auto
module build as expected no issues.

rebooted and rtl8821ce functions under 5.10.0-1014-oem kernel..

so all looks good .

[Bug 1915971] [NEW] pandas needs pyarrow, which doesn't exist

2021-02-17 Thread Ross Boylan
Public bug reported:

python3-pandas needs certain packages which are not listed among its
dependencies, even as suggests, and are not available in Ubuntu. I ran into
this while using feather. Here's a debug session; earlier import pandas as pd
we executed.
(Pdb) c
> /usr/local/fahydev/Kornak/bifs/examples/investigate09.py(59)()
-> subsample = pd.read_feather(SUBFILE).astype({"id": int})
(Pdb) n
ImportError: Missing optional dependency 'pyarrow'. Use pip or conda to
install pyarrow.

The removal of support for feather and the absence of a suitable package
is noted in the changelog for 0.25.2+dfsg-1.

apache provides packaging and instructions upstream, but it would be
really nice if this just worked.

Note that python3-arrow, an existing Ubuntu package, has absolutely
nothing to do with the pyarrow library.

Desired Outcome:
pyarrow packaged like other python libraries.
The relevant package listed as a dependency of python3-pandas (I'd be fine with
recommends though suggests would do).

In case the info I uploaded didn't get through, this is on Ubuntu 20.04
with python3-pandas 0.25.3+dfsg-7

[Bug 1915771] Re: Thunderbird randomly inserts string

2021-02-17 Thread Humphrey van Polanen Petel
Yes, the string "jouw maar" is what was inserted randomly.

At the time I noticed, I was composing an email in Thunderbird, but
after that I also noticed a random insertion (of some other string) in
Gedit.

Whether the strin inquestion was on the clipboard, I do not know, but
will check next time it happens.

Note that I have Clipit running.

[Bug 1915968] [NEW] grub is crashing. I think it doesn't have enought space on EFI

2021-02-17 Thread Carlos Vera
Public bug reported:

A fatal error occurred while installing Ubuntu, however it had already
happened to me while trying to install Archlinux, I actually pass to
Ubuntu, because of the automatic process, however, in both cases the
fatal error happened with grub. But in Arch i got more info of the
moment and the message (I took a photo):

It was after the command:
grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot

And the message said:
grub-install: error: cannot open directory `/boot/grub/locale`: No such file or
directory.

I tryed creatitng it manually with mkdir, but I got the following message:
error: No space left on device

The EFI partition was mounted in /boot, but I think it is too small (99
MB) so grub-install is crashing as it seems that it needs to add write
folder and files on it.

I hope that may be useful.

Regards

[Bug 1915966] Re: Please merge initramfs-tools 0.139 from Debian unstable

2021-02-17 Thread Dave Jones
Attaching patch against Debian unstable. For ease of review, I've also
pushed relevant commits and tags to the following repository:

  https://code.launchpad.net/~waveform/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-
tools/+git/initramfs-tools

Specifically:

* The logical/0.137ubuntu12 tag represents our split-out delta on top of
old/debian (0.137)
* The merge/0.139ubuntu1 tag represents the rebased delta on top of new/debian
(0.139)

Hence, the following command may produce output useful to the purposes
of review:

  git range-diff old/debian..logical/0.137ubuntu12
new/debian..merge/0.139ubuntu1

fixed and I think we can close this bug.

[Bug 691233]

2021-02-17 Thread Leland-audacityteam

ID3 tags in Dolphin

This shows that Dolphin does indeed (at least now it does) recognized
the Audacity tags. One note about this is that you HAVE to enable
"baloo" which the file indexer that collects this extra information.
Without it enabled, you do see metadata from any file. Here's what
baloo collected for this one:

[ub20:~]$ balooshow Documents/untitled.mp3

Carine, this doesn't appear related to this bug report. Please file a
new bug report, and explain in details what you're trying to do and how
it fails. Thanks.

[Bug 1852016] Re: Applications delayed on launch

2021-02-17 Thread Digulla-hepe
Just a heads up: I'm seeing exactly the same behavior on OpenSUSE LEAP
15.2

This happens with Xfce4 desktop.

It seems to be a rare bug; no one has hard about this when I asked on
the mailing list.

I did some debugging of keepassxc (since it's a relatively small app).

Installed some debug packages, then "gdb keypassxc", wait 5 seconds
until it stops printing "[New Thread 0x7fffe945b700 (LWP 18090)]", then
Ctrl+C to get the stack traces.

"info threads" to see which threads there are. "thread " + id to switch
between them.

The app hangs for 25 seconds when I try to start it which matches this
timeout:

__GI___poll (fds=0x55f994d0, nfds=1, timeout=25000) at
../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/poll.c:29

Googling returned this analysis:

https://freefilesync.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6704

The stack traces look very similar: Threads hanging in __lll_lock_wait
and __GI___poll called from ibus_bus_new_async_client and
g_simple_async_result_get_type respectively.

In the mean time, I've found more apps with the same symptom:

- qmmp

- qtconfig ("Qt 4 settings" in the Xfce settings dialog.)

I'm wondering about this line in the stack trace:

/usr/lib64/qt5/plugins/styles/libqgtk2style.so

Maybe there is a bug in the Qt style which I'm using.

Stack frame 45 says style is
"QGtk2Theme::themeHint(QPlatformTheme::ThemeHint)
const::{lambda()#1}::operator()() const::qstring_literal"

which would match the setting in the "Qt 4 settings" dialog but I'm
using Qt5. Or is the dialog for both?

[Bug 1915771] Re: Thunderbird randomly inserts string

2021-02-17 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I'm not sure what to make of the attachment. Is "Jouw maar" the string that
gets randomly inserted?
Please elaborate on what exactly you do when that happens (are you composing a
new e-mail, replying to an existing one, using some other feature of
thunderbird?). Do you have extensions installed? Is the text that gets inserted
in your clipboard?
