[Bug 1918427] Re: curtin: install flash-kernel in arm64 UEFI unexpected

2021-03-16 Thread Date Huang
maybe we can try this patch with alternative path to disable arch-
specific binaries before that package is installed.

when `which` didn't get any path for system, we assume that binary isn't
installed for now.
and still disable it via alternative path

Hi Ryan

of the binary-to-be-diverted).

I tried dpkg-divert with my mustang and flash-kernel (see in attachment)
It's ok for dpkg-divert even that package isn't installed.

[Bug 1919285] Re: Nvidia

2021-03-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like the Nvidia driver is not happy with the new kernel.

Please try booting an older kernel or forcefully reinstalling the Nvidia
kernel driver:

  sudo apt install --reinstall nvidia-driver-390 nvidia-dkms-390

and then reboot (because the Nvidia web site tells me your GPU is only
supported by driver version 390).

[Bug 1919364] Re: After update display resolution is only 640X480

It sounds like the Nvidia driver is not happy with the new kernel.

  sudo apt install --reinstall nvidia-dkms-460

and then reboot.

[Bug 1919248] Re: Nvidia driver never used if Ubuntu was installed in safe graphics mode

2021-03-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for that. I had suspected a full reinstall without safe graphics
mode might solve it.

Historically that just involved a kernel parameter that I could identify
but in this case your safe graphics mode was coming from somewhere else.
Maybe a config file gets installed in that case? I really should find
out how it's implemented...

[Bug 1918723] Re: iwlwifi crash when running a software AC

2021-03-16 Thread Brieuc du Garay
Hi. I come with some news. I found a workaround that is not the best,
but works.

I have set up my AP to separate SSID for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

I do not experience and trouble in 5Ghz , except when running said game
"Velocidrone".

On the other hand, I experiment unstable 2,4Ghz wifi link (connection to
AP (MAC:ID) lost) with my wireless mouse (with usb flash) , undoubtedly
because of interference, no matter the channel.

So I manually choose which band I want wether I want to play simulator,
disconnecting the mouse, or simply surfing.

If course it'd be better if I everything was working without I to be
worried about it.

Good day to you

Brieuc

[Bug 1919395] [NEW] Must not provide ifupdown on Ubuntu

2021-03-16 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

I am concerned about shipping ifupdown2 package in Ubuntu, with
declaration that it can provide ifupdown.

It is not a direct replaced of ifupdown in Ubuntu, as features present
in Ubuntu's ifupdown are not implemented in ifupdown2 package.

* allow-hotplug / auto / udev-rules for hotplug are not present

* does not use dhclient -1 option

* does not ship resolved integration

Installing ifupdown2 thus will break system expectations, reintroduce
previously fixed bugs, potentially leave people without networking if
they are currently using ifupdown.

Imho ifupdown2 package should be removed from the archive, or for at
least Provides ifupdown should be dropped, until it gains bug fixes and
features to be a viable ifupdown provider on Ubuntu.

[Bug 1890924] Re: Location services work with location services off, 20.04

2021-03-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Alright, thanks for the testing. Sounds like the patch supposed to fix
it doesn't work as intended there. I don't have more cycles to spent on
investigating the issue more at the moment so I'm going to set it back

[Bug 1918935] Re: convert(1) segfault

2021-03-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The issue is quite specific, it's the first time it's reported and is
probably not going to rank enough for us to spend time figuring out what
commit fixed it exactly. If someone was interested in working on finding
that information it would make it more likely to see a SRU happening
though

[Bug 1919377] Re: gnome-shell 3.38+ HUD app grid is limited to only 4x6

2021-03-16 Thread Camden Mac Leod
I don't think this is a bug, but I agree that there should be a better
implementation. None of my displays are 4K, but I can definitely see how
on some monitors the icons are massive, and on others, they should
easily have more rows/columns.

I fixed this by installing the 'App Grid Tweaks' app:
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/3997/app-grid-tweaks/

The extension allows you to customize the rows, columns, icon size, font
size, folders, etc.

[Bug 1919392] [NEW] 5.4.0-67.75 breaks compat with 3rd party Mellanox OFED drivers

2021-03-16 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Releases of Mellanox OFED drivers no longer compile against latest focal
kernel. While Ubuntu can not necessarily guarantee source compatibility with
3rd party trees, it seems like the MOFED stack has enough users that we'd want
to avoid breaking it unnecessarily.

[Fix]
Temporarily reverting the following commits until MOFED can release a new
version that supports them would do the trick:

f21f647e08bd tools headers UAPI: Sync linux/const.h with the kernel headers
37bbb8ed3e93 uapi: move constants from to

[Test Case]
Install MOFED driver stack:

export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive
NVIDIA_DRIVER_VERSION=450-server
MELLANOX_OFED_VERSION=5.1-2.5.8.0

install_mellanox_ofed() {
local MLNX_REPO="https://linux.mellanox.com/public/repo/mlnx_ofed;
local mlnx_ofed_ver="$1"
local ubuntu_ver
ubuntu_ver="$(lsb_release -rs)"

mlnx_url="${MLNX_REPO}/${mlnx_ofed_ver}/ubuntu${ubuntu_ver}/mellanox_mlnx_ofed.list"

wget -qO - https://www.mellanox.com/downloads/ofed/RPM-GPG-KEY-Mellanox | \
apt-key add -
wget -q -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mellanox_mlnx_ofed.list \
 "$mlnx_url"
apt update
apt install mlnx-ofed-kernel-only -y
}

[Bug 1919308] Re: sometimes unable to play media like youtube

2021-03-16 Thread Chris Guiver
Just an FYI: I see no confirmation (impacting only a single user of a
non-Ubuntu system).

Linux Mint uses run-time adjustments (so they can use foreign (ubuntu)
packages that are outside of their control), so this bug will be treated
as low-value/unconfirmed until such time as it's been Confirmed, ideally
on an adjustment-free system (ie. Ubuntu).

I see no elimination of the Mint specific adjustments that impact
especially what's appearing on screen, thus the bug could be those
adjustments aren't compatible with the updated kernel and it's the
adjustments used by Mint that need fixing. A second reporting using
Ubuntu (thus adjustment free) would provide confirmation it's a kernel
bug issue.

Thank you for the videos (you've made it easier for other users to see
if that fits their issue) thus improving chance of confirmation.

Thank you for taking the time to help make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1908452] Re: MAAS stops working and deployment fails after `Loading ephemeral` step

2021-03-16 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:

- We are having an issue with our production MAAS
- The web UI is available normally, we can start to deploy, but the result is a
failure - systems get stuck during `Loading ephemeral` step:
+ = How to determine you are seeing this problem =
+ Does your MAAS server seem to get "hung up", where deployments suddenly start
failing w/ lots of connection timeouts to the MAAS server?

- ```
- Tue, 15 Dec. 2020 23:08:57Node - Powered off 'akis'.
- Tue, 15 Dec. 2020 23:05:25Marking node failed - Node operation
'Deploying' timed out after 30 minutes.
- Tue, 15 Dec. 2020 22:35:31Loading ephemeral

- Tue, 15 Dec. 2020 22:31:35Deploying
- Tue, 15 Dec. 2020 22:31:09Node - Acquired 'akis'.
- ```
+ Get a list of pids of your regiond processes:
+ $ ps -ef | grep regiond

- It's the 3rd time we are seeing this behavior, which is fixed after a
- restart.
+ Run strace on each one to see if one is stuck in a connect() or recv() call:
+ $ sudo strace -p $pid
+ recv(...

- MAAS version: 2.8.2 (8577-g.a3e674063)
+ (normally you should see a lot of epoll_ctl() calls go by if not hung)
+
+ If one is hung, use lsof to see what it is connected to:
+ sudo lsof -i -a -p $pid
+
+ If you see an open connection to your images server, then this maybe
+ your problem.

[Bug 1908452] Re: MAAS stops working and deployment fails after `Loading ephemeral` step

2021-03-16 Thread dann frazier
fyi, we saw this recur even after switching to an HTTP images mirror. We
were seeing deployments fail, and I found a regiond process was again
hung in a system call reading a socket from images.maas.io:80. This is
our production MAAS so I didn't spend a lot of time debugging it - I
kill -9'd the process and MAAS respawned/recovered. But the highlight
here is that this does not appear to be specific to SSL connections.

[Bug 1871721] Re: Second Monitor on HDMI blank screen/blink screen with Nvidia + Intel & Ubuntu 20.04? (ASUS Laptop)

2021-03-16 Thread Justin Silverman
I think I may be having a related issue.

Lenovo P1 Gen 2
Ubuntu 20.04
I am trying to connect 2 external monitors both connected via USB-C

All was well for the first 2 hours. Then I unplugged my laptop worked
off of battery for about an hour. Tried to plug back into the monitors
and thats when the problem showed up. Now I can get 1 external monitor
to show up, But when I try to connect both external monitors, both are
just black (both are recognized both by ubuntu (under displays) and by
nvidia-settings.

Any ideas?

Going back to low resolution 1080p 100dpi, it actually looks decent
there, notice the spacing actually looks sane and there aren't huge
areas of wasted space like at 4K.

So it looks like they only really considered 1080p 100dpi and just
blissfully ignored all other use cases.

Ok so thanks to your message, I have be able to dig into this a bit. By default
I use hintslight (10-hinting-slight.conf is linked into my /etc/fonts/conf.d),
but the font that bugs is Roboto, that has its own config file in
/etc/fonts/conf.d, and it uses hintfull. So I've edited this file directly, and
every other value stops the jittering for me (it does not stop some weird
spacing though, for instance sometimes the "i" is to close one of its sibling).

So I'm wondering: what is the correct fix here? Is this a config bug and
I should raise the issue to the fontconfig package mainteneur? A font
issue? Or a firefox one?

No. I have a powerline config in my fontconfig conf directory though,
which contains

```xml
   false
   hintnone
   bgr
   true
```
I'm attaching the full file just in case, and I'm going to test stuff with it.

[Bug 1911689] Re: Please update to upstream release 20210219.00

2021-03-16 Thread Joshua Powers
## Conclusion

Due to the completion of Google's testing and my own verification, I am
marking verification-complete for all releases.

## Notes

Testing of the new Google guest agents was primarily performed by
Google themselves. They have given the +1.

>From my own testing, I used the latest GCE images, enabled
proposed and installed google-osconfig-agent.

I verified:

1) the versions of packages
2) that the services were running/completed successfully

My notes and logs are below.

[Bug 1918141] Re: nfs-server.service needs name resolution and network online

2021-03-16 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
+ nfs-server.service (part of the nfs-utils package) has insufficient
+ dependencies to start correctly in a setting where the NFS exports list
+ contains DNS hostnames (not in local hosts file) or netgroups served via
+ network (for example sssd).
+
+ This issue can negatively impact users that, for example, cannot easily
+ resort to using IP addresses directly in the /etc/exports file, and need
+ to use hostnames instead in order to be able to mount NFS shares over
+ the network.
+
+ [ Test Case ]
+
+ You can reproduce the issue by following the instructions below. Adjust
+ the Ubuntu release on "images:ubuntu/hirsute" accordingly.
+
+ $ lxc launch images:ubuntu/hirsute nfs-utils-bug1918141 --vm
+ $ lxc shell nfs-utils-bug1918141
+ # apt update
+ # apt install -y nfs-kernel-server
+ # mkdir /testshare
+ # cat >> /etc/exports << EOF
+ /testshare ubuntu.com(ro,sync,no_subtree_check)
+ EOF
+ # systemctl edit --full systemd-networkd.service
+
+ You will have to:
+
+ - Comment out the "Wants=" line.
+ - Remove "network.target" from the "Before=" line.
+ - Add a new "After=fakenet.service" line.
+ - Add a new "Wants=fakenet.service" line.
+ - Add the following line in the "[Service]" section:
+
+   ExecStartPre=/bin/sleep 10
+
+ # systemctl edit --force --full fakenet.service
+
+ This new service file will contain:
+
+ [Unit]
+ Description=Fake network.target
+ DefaultDependencies=no
+ After=systemd-udevd.service network-pre.target systemd-sysusers.service
systemd-sysctl.service
+ Before=network.target multi-user.target shutdown.target
+ Conflicts=shutdown.target
+ Wants=network.target
+
+ [Service]
+ Type=oneshot
+ ExecStart=/bin/true

+ # systemctl mask systemd-resolved
+ # rm /etc/resolv.conf
+ # cat > /etc/resolv.conf << EOF
+ nameserver 8.8.8.8
+ EOF
+ # reboot
+
+ After a few seconds, you can enter the VM again:
+
+ $ lxc shell nfs-utils-bug1918141
+ # sleep 20 && systemctl status nfs-server.service
+ ● nfs-server.service - NFS server and services
+ Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/nfs-server.service; enabled; vendor

services...
+ Mar 16 20:51:41 nfs-utils-bug1918141 exportfs[310]: exportfs: Failed to

+ Mar 16 20:51:41 nfs-utils-bug1918141 exportfs[310]: exportfs: Failed to
resolve ubuntu.com
+ Mar 16 20:51:42 nfs-utils-bug1918141 systemd[1]: Finished NFS server and
services.
+
+ As you can see, the service was started but exportfs failed to resolve
+ the hostname.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ This fix has been applied upstream for quite a while now, and is even
+ part of a release, so it has been extensively tested by users and other
+ distributions that have more recent nfs-utils. I cannot easily envision
+ problems with the proposed changes but:
+
+ * If the user has manually modified the nfs-server.service file without
+ taking proper precautions (i.e., editin the file directly on
+ /lib/systemd/system/ instead of using "systemctl edit"), then he might
+ experience a conflict when installing a new version of the file, and his
+ modifications will be lost. However, this falls under the "local
+ configuration issue", in my opinion.
+
+ [ Original Description ]
+
  nfs-server.service has insufficient dependencies to start correctly in a
  setting where the nfs exports list contains DNS host names (not in local
  hosts file) or netgroups served via network (for example sssd).

  Typical failures listed by systemctl status nfs-server.service are:

[Bug 1919383] [NEW] module group: different gid compared to command line execution

2021-03-16 Thread Bernie Hoeneisen
Public bug reported:

Using the following ansible configuration to create a system group

--- BEGIN ---

- name: ADDUSER Ensure system group "wireshark" exists
  ansible.builtin.group:
name: wireshark
system: yes
state: present

--- END ---

leads to a (numeric) group is of 998

  $ grep wireshark /etc/group

while executing doing the same via command line lead to a GID as expected:

  $ sudo addgroup --system wireshark

Could the behavior be harmonized to have all numeric group ids in a similar

[Bug 1919380] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2021-03-16

2021-03-16 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to

  to a maximum of 4x6.

  This might be acceptable on an iPhone, which is where they actually got

  computer screen. It looks farcical.

  Even the spacing prior to Ubuntu 20.10 (Gnome 3.38) was much too wide,
  but this is MUCH MUCH WORSE.

  It looks like previously it was limited to only ~ 6x12 which was still
  pretty bad.

  See the attached screenshot of what this looks like on Gnome 3.36 vs

  Also notice there is more than one page of apps on 3.38 and that it only
  shows 4x6 at maximum. 臘

+ As you will notice this is a 4K screen at 100 dpi, its not a small

[Bug 1919373] [NEW] keymap messed up after updating ubuntu

Public bug reported:

keybindings are wrong. Looking at emacs' messages window an pressing

Other problems include mousing over a menu key activates the key,

evolution.

[Bug 1919367] [NEW] compton recommends picom

2021-03-16 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Public bug reported:

compton's been pretty much abandoned and as such someone took it upon
themselves to fork/rewrite it and that is what has resulted in picom.
picom is partially compatible with compton but it does not support all
of its options. Since Recommends are installed by default, installing
compton results in having two compositors (picom and compton) and since
picom doesn't come with a default config all set up, it will use
compton.conf and it will likely fail silently. This is just bad. If
anything, picom should be a suggest, or just simply not mentioned at
all.

[Bug 1798071] Re: Suspension fails and re-login screen is black

2021-03-16 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Suspension is handled by the kernel, not by artwork (and it's buggy
depending on the hardware). Similarly, my guess is that any graphical
issues you had are related to the kernel modules, as well. Either way,
it doesn't seem like this is going anywhere, so Incomplete it is.

** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** No longer affects: lubuntu-artwork

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete
