[Bug 1929915] [NEW] "Software Sources" fails to launch from Discover when tried to launch from applications list (kf.kio.gui: "Could not find the program 'lxqt-sudo'")
Public bug reported: Release: Kubuntu Groovy (also affects focal, hirsute) SW, version: software-properties-qt, 0.99.3.1 (for groovy but also affects version on focal) How to reproduce: 1) Launch Discover. 2) Search for (or scroll to) 'software sources', select the 'Software Sources' from the search result. 3) Click on 'Launch'. Expected: The application launches, possibly asking for admin password. Actual: Does not launch (on groovy). On focal, launches with error (Snapshot attached). However, if we try to access software sources from 'Settings', it launches properly. When launched from terminal, it was seen that discover was trying to use `lxqt-sudo` and failing since it was not installed. Error message as below. `kf.kio.gui: "Could not find the program 'lxqt-sudo'"` Whereas when we access 'Software Sources' from 'Settings', it is using `kdesu`. Message as below. `org.kde.kdesu: Daemon not safe (not sgid), not using it.`. Inspite of 'Daemon not safe...' error, the software sources launches and able to make changes. That part is probably not a bug. A well-written player ideally should not be using the Blitter. You just need 'Video' for decoding the video and 'Render/3D' for putting it on screen. Using 'Blitter' possibly means gstreamer is using too much software rendering, somewhere. [Bug 1896578] Re: raid10: Block discard is very slow, causing severe delays for mkfs and fstrim operations
Hi Evan, As I mentioned in my previous message, I submitted the patches to the Ubuntu kernel mailing list for SRU. These patches have now gotten 2 acks [1][2] from senior kernel team members, and the patches have now been applied [3] to the 4.15, 5.4, 5.8 and 5.11 kernels. [1] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-May/120475.html [2] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-May/120799.html [3] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-May/120800.html This is what is going to happen next. Next week, between the 31st of May and 4th of June, the kernel team will build the next kernel update, and place it in -proposed for testing. As soon as these kernels enter -proposed, we need to install and test Raid10 in these new kernels as much as possible. The testing and verification window is between the 7th and 18th of June. If all goes well, we can mark the launchpad bug as verified, and we will see a release to -updates around the 21st of June, give or take a few days if any CVEs turn up. The schedule is on https://kernel.ubuntu.com/ if anything were to change. I will write back once the next kernel update is in -proposed, likely early to mid next week. I would really, really appreciate it if you could help test the kernels when they arrive in -proposed, as I really don't want to introduce any more regressions. [Bug 1918008] Re: 2 network icons on taskbar - Lubuntu 18.04.5
This bug report is about 2 network icons on taskbar on package that is now EOL; nothing will happen. If the issue also occurs in Lubuntu 20.04 LTS that is supported; the software stack is very different (different desktop for starters) so a new bug should be filed. > How I can help you with find fix for this issue? Each issue should be in it's own bug report; unless the issues are linked. This report makes me think of `lxpanel` (given it's notifications appearing on the panel) however that has nothing to do with video/blanking screen... By keeping a report about a single issue, it's easier to work out the package where the bug impacts (lubuntu-meta is a catch all for unknown bugs, as its a package that won't generally be changed post-release) Once I've worked out the package involved (often with help on bug reports here, or IRC etc; #lubuntu or #lubuntu-devel on libera.chat for lubuntu issues on supported releases) I tend to test in later releases (esp. the latest) and see if it's an issue there. Developers work on the development release (only back-porting security fixes to stable releases) so that's where you get their attention. If the issue occurs in the development release (currently impish), I then will test in another different environment (eg. for me it's opensuse tumbleweed, debian testing or fedora rawhide; some may be helpful (up-to-date) at times they won't be (eg. debian is currently in freeze), but if you find the issue in other OSes with latest software.. you can then file the bug upstream (where the fix flows down to all distributions). Upstream generally only care about bugs when filed about the latest release of their software Launchpad allows you to link upstream reports if you get that far, but if you can't find it, just adding the URL to the report is enough so its documented. This bug was filed on a Lubuntu package, our current wiki page on bug reporting can be viewed at https://phab.lubuntu.me/w/bugs/ (note: it still has the LXDE-LXQt comparison table which may be removed when a change is next required to the document) which is useful to narrow down which Lubuntu package maybe involved. FYI: To test the latest without requiring an install; you can use dailies (currently created for focal (what will be 20.04.3) and impish (what will be 21.10 on release)) which can be used without installation (https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/what-is-a-lubuntu-live-session-test/1672 maybe useful if you're not aware of the concept; the thread is still open so if the question is related to testing modern Lubuntu I can be reached there too). [Bug 1923256] Re: Unable to Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04
Hi, Sorry to only report on this, but the machine was at another location. Before trying the: do-release-upgrade -p I updated the system with the latest updates (had not been updated since the time I reported the problem) and tried to run the normal: do-release-upgrade Something was changed by the recent updates, because it is running the upgrade now. Maybe the new version of the "do-release-upgrade" package solved it. If you need any info from this system, please let me know. [Bug 1867465] Re: Installer disconnects wifi (after choosing download while installing, 3rd party)
@Piotr, I've given up on this. I was less concerned about security than I was about the user experience. If the installer knows it's going to drop the connection, why not inform the user of this? It's really unnerving to have your connection drop, and think there's some kind of bug going on. It's little satisfaction to learn later it's not a bug. I don't know what it is with *buntu, but I've given up. They don't care about attracting more people. It's a circle-the-wagons approach. I say it to anyone who will listen: Re-open Bug#1. *buntu has lost its way. Shuttleworth should look at his contemporaries (who've moved on to launching cars into space, and being the richest men in the world). He should ask why he got left behind. Windows 10 was a windfall to the Linux Desktop, and we're still missing the point. I've moved on to a non-buntu based distro. [Bug 1929880] [NEW] php-twig 3.x in circular build dependency situation with symfony 5
Public bug reported: php-symfony-string is a new package introduced in symfony 5, but not in symfony 4. This package is required by php-twig 3.x for running its testsuite during the build process. Unfortunately, symfony 5 itself depends on three new packages introduced in php-twig 3. Thus, there is a circular dependency between these packages during build. Since php-twig only requires php-symfony-string for its testsuite, a possible way to sidestep the problem is to temporarily skip running php- twig's testsuite, allowing the php-symfony-string dependency to be temporarily dropped. Then, once this bootstrapped php-twig is in -proposed, symfony should hopefully complete its build. At that point we should be able to revert the php-twig testsuite disablement and re-upload it to build with the testsuite, and carry on from there. ** Affects: php-twig (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929880 Title: php-twig 3.x in circular build dependency situation with symfony 5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-twig/+bug/1929880/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1928600] Re: [amdgpu] Gnome locks up with artifacts on screen and [drm:amdgpu_dm_commit_planes [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Waiting for fences timed out!
Thought I'd better give an update on progress from my end. The above task is proving more of a challenge than hoped (not helped by time out on customer sites using different hardware). The stock 5.8 series kernel (linux-image-5.8.0-53-generic) is reasonably, but not completely, stable. I can generally manage a few days without a lock up and that is pretty much always on a resume or suspend. The issue gets progressively worse as the kernel version increases so I decided to start with the 5.11 series. The first available to download was RC2, and that ran fine for most of a day, but then locked up on a resume and several reboots failed to get to the desktop, so instead of moving on to RC3 as I was expecting I'm backing off to the 5.8 series RC2 to start from there and work my way up. Given how long it can be between lock ups even on the current version this may be a slightly long winded process - hence adding some notes now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928600 Title: [amdgpu] Gnome locks up with artifacts on screen and [drm:amdgpu_dm_commit_planes [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Waiting for fences timed out! [Bug 1929870] [NEW] AMD desktop often fails to resume from deep suspend
Public bug reported: Machine setup: Desktop PC Ubuntu 21.04 Linux version 5.11.0-17-generic AMD Ryzen 3900X Asus X590 PRIME PRO motherboard NVIDIA P400 GPU Approximately one in every 4 attempts to resume from a deep suspend fails. When the issue occurs the fans spin up but the monitor displays no output and input devices do not function, the system appears frozen and must be restarted using power or reset buttons. I have tried using different dNVIDIA isplay drivers (proprietary as well as open source) as well as trying an AMD Radeon HD 6450 GPU instead of the NVIDIA GPU. [Bug 1929802] Re: Log information on ubuntu login screen
The Ubuntu Pi images are modified Ubuntu Cloud images and as such they use cloud-init for their initial configuration. On the very first boot, there's quite a bit more output than this (from cloud-init) confirming it's created users, imported SSH keys, or whatever else it's been set up to do (via user-data on the boot partition). However, on subsequent boots it also outputs these lines indicating that it's run but had nothing to do (cloud-init can be set to run things on subsequent boots but doesn't by default). I don't know the reason for this specifically, but I'd hazard a guess that the fact it's on the console would be for debugging reasons. For the very first boot it's actually rather useful given that getty (the process that produces the login prompt) typically executes *before* cloud-init completes and thus the cloud-init output serves to prompt when the initial user has been created (permitting login). However, on subsequent boots it is (at least superficially) needless output. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929802 Title: Log information on ubuntu login screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-init/+bug/1929802/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
