[Bug 1730606] Re: systemd idleaction=suspend not working in multiseat while a screen is showing login prompt

2021-05-30 Thread amk
After upgrade to Ubuntu version 20.4 the issue with the idle status
reporting by lightdm-greeter remains. This continues to have idle
setting of logind.conf ignored:

https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/logind.conf.html
> Note that this requires that user sessions correctly report the idle status
> to the system. The system will execute the action after *all sessions* report
> that they are idle, no idle inhibitor lock is active, and subsequently, the
> time configured with IdleActionSec= (see below) has expired.

At the other hand, installing lightdm and unity-greeter causes suspend
to happen every 20 minutes while one screen shows greeter, regardless of
all other screens. Reported also at
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1337649/how-to-disable-suspend-in-20
-minutes-from-the-lightdm-login-screen and as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1928305

There is a workaround available there (set both org.gnome.settings-
daemon.plugins.power and com.canonical.unity.settings-
daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-ac-type to 'nothing'), preventing
the unexpected suspend by greeter. Issue of this bug remains since the
greeter still does not report idle to logind.

The script to check idle status of all session and force suspend overriding
login screen needs update, systemd-inhibit --list does not have parseable
output, like it was the case in systemd version 229. Needed to be replaced by
command
gdbus call --system --dest org.freedesktop.login1 --object-path
/org/freedesktop/login1 --method org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.ListInhibitors

There are several other reports of this problem, for example also at
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=896083 or
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/22 but I am not
sure about be the best upstream place to track this. It looks like gdm/lightdm
greeter is not designed to work under logind but attempts to control the system
sleep status on its own.

Like many of you out there I totally disagree with the decision to mark
this bug as invalid. I myself am running newer hardware that requires
support from kernel 12.x and can now only use compatible kernels like
the ones produced by tux-invader, not the ones on the mainline ppa.

[Bug 1928702] Re: 21.04 - Bay Trail - Annoying Graphic Artifacts

2021-05-30 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
To find the fixing commit, we need to do a reverse bisection:

First, find the first -rc kernel works and the last -rc kernel doesn’t
work from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect new $(the working version you found)
$ git bisect old $(the non-working version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If it doesn’t work,
$ git bisect old
Otherwise,
$ git bisect new
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit fixes the issue.

[Bug 1929899] Re: libbpf.so.0 missing version information

2021-05-30 Thread Matthew Berryman
I gather the version number came from BCC BPF which is currently 0.20.0
https://github.com/iovisor/bcc/tags

It was a failure in dpkg in the sense that dpkg reports the library was
installed fine. To me, that would mean it is the version currently set
to be used (and if there are alternatives, these should be flagged if
not configurable as alternatives).

[Bug 1930128] Re: Xorg freeze

2021-05-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1689398] Re: Lubuntu 17.04 LightDM Greeter panel font hard to read

2021-05-30 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 17.04 (zesty) reached end-of-life on January 13, 2018.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in.

(FYI: Lubuntu hasn't used lightdm in our last six releases, so there is
a great chance it no longer applies)

Production servers were upgraded from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 18.04 and
the production servers are sitting behind a proxy server.

[Bug 1928744] Re: Disk IO very slow on kernel 4.15.0-142-generic

2021-05-30 Thread Mariusz
Hi,

I have done longer testing of kernel 140 and it has performance
degradation issue as well. It took a couple of days to fully max out
disk IOs on that kernel with the same load. Therefore, I came back to
testing the other kernels in longer time-window.

At the moment, I'm running kernel 4.15.0-137-generic. Will leave it
running for the next few days to see if there is any difference.

[Bug 1928305] Re: Lightdm ignores power saving settings; suspends system in 20 minutes regardless of sleep-inactive-ac-timeout parameter

2021-05-30 Thread amk
Lightdm shall never suspend the system itself. Instead it should
properly report idle status to systemd where a decision can be taken by
checking all relevant services, sessions and inhibitors.

In the past I have reported that idle suspend does not work while showing login
screen:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1730606

After upgrade to 20.4 the system keeps suspending when one seat is
showing login screen despite of a user is typing on another seat.

The workaround here seems to help with the unwanted suspend, and still
needs the cron job to override the missing idle hint and to suspend when
applicable.

Another similar reports mentioning multiseat setup as a victim of the
gdm not playing in the team with systemd: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME
/gnome-control-center/-/issues/22

[Bug 1929899] Re: libbpf.so.0 missing version information

Thanks for confirming that its not a bug with libbbpf.

It was not a failure. You had "libbpf.so.0.9.0" wihch is a higher version than
"libbpf.so.0.3.0" and so iiuc, ldconfig will not update the link as it is
attempting to link to a lower version.
But I am totally confused about how you got libbpf.so.0.9.0, it has not been
released yet, the latest is 0.4.0 which I just uploaded to Debian few days ago.

[Bug 1927219] Re: context deadline exceeded: unknown in containerd with latest runc version

2021-05-30 Thread Colin GILLE
@Lucas, I just tested with runc 1.0.0~rc95-0ubuntu1~20.04.1~ppa1 from
your PPA, everything is working ok (300 containers tested).

I don't know if the containerd update is planned, but I ran the test
with containerd 1.3.3-0ubuntu2.3 from the Ubuntu repo and
1.5.2-0ubuntu1~20.04.1~ppa1 form your PPA, both were running ok.

[Bug 1930167] [NEW] New Firefox 88 freezes on Wayland then system crash

2021-05-30 Thread Douglas Silva
Public bug reported:

After updating firefox deb to version 88, every time I play YouTube
videos, some times in several tabs, then Wayland crashes and the system
freezes. For try workaround this crash, I've to use the magic key SysRq
(Alt + SysReq) with "REISUB" characters to safely reboot my Ubuntu
though. Every time I open Firefox 88 deb via console, the message below
appears even though these modules are installed:

Gtk-Message: 14:01:56.615: Failed to load module "appmenu-gtk-module"
Gtk-Message: 14:01:56.662: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
Gtk-Message: 14:01:56.664: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
/usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids: No such file or directory

I'm currently using Firefox 78 ESR snap because the main installation is
unusable, unfortunately ...

Thank you!

[Bug 1930165] [NEW] USB Optical Drive Doesn't Automount with Disk in Drive

2021-05-30 Thread Jack
Public bug reported:

After installing VLC, libdvdread7 and libdvdcss2 my movie will still not
auto-mount so that I can watch it. However, when I reboot the computer
the optical drive now shows and will play the movie. This did not
happen in 18.04 or when 20.04 first came out. Thinking this was a bug
specific to Ubuntu, I tried Kubuntu, Opensuse, and Fedora all three
distro's behaved the same way. This would seem to be a problem with HCE
and how devices are recognized when plugged into USB ports. I do not
have this problem with flash drives, just optical. I have verified that
the problem is not the drive itself by testing it in Windows which
mounts the drive right away and plays the DVD. It will also play the
DVD in Ubuntu but only after a reboot with the drive remaining plugged
in. If I unplug the DVD-RW USB drive and plug in back in, the device
will not mount, although it does show it in the "Disks" utility.

[Bug 1926165] Re: Bass speakers not enabled on Lenovo Yoga 9i

2021-05-30 Thread I And
@Hui Wang
Eventually, i have applied your patch to the kernel.
I have DAC1 and DAC2 now and somehow sound is better now than before, but rear
speakers are not working.
If i change the level of DAC1 - the sound volume changes, but the changing of
DAC2 level does nothing.

[Bug 1909499] Re: iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: No beacon heard and the time event is over already...

2021-05-30 Thread subzerochi
Just logging in to say I have this too. Any current workarounds?
Interestingly I noticed that this problem only exists in connecting to my wifi
router. If I use a 4G wifi hotspot device, the connection is stable.
