[Bug 1933748] Re: Gnome menu items jumping up and down make clicking risky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1933748/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1933748] [NEW] Gnome menu items jumping up and down make clicking risky
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 0. I don't know the relevant circumstances about Wi-Fi networks being available and about the adapter's reception (I use a 2.4GHz USB adapter). This occurs mainly when I first try to get on a network, probably right after waking the machine from sleep and trying to get on a network. 1. In the Gnome desktop environment's top panel, at the far right, open the menu. If Wi-Fi is off, turn it on. If it says Wi-Fi Not Connected, see if that line is appearing and disappearing several times. 2. Try to select a command below that line, not a command that is exposed only by selecting Wi-Fi Not Connected but one below that, such as Settings. Because the network line is disappearing and reappearing in unpredictably rapid cycles, you may not want to click on a command below it (and risk clicking the wrong command) but merely position your cursor as if you intend to click it. Actual result: You can't be sure what you're going to click. Expected result: If a menu command must appear and disappear in unpredictable fashion, have it do so without everything below it in the menu jumping up and down. This can be managed by having the disappearing menu item be replaced by an unselectable blank menu item. Then, anything below would not jump. If the menu while it has a blank menu item is closed by any method, the blank menu item should be deleted. Thus, when the menu is opened later by any method, in the same login session or not, the blank menu item would not be included. Additional info: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS, kept evergreen, with Gnome desktop environment 3.36.8 (still). The package was guessed from the list of process IDs. The string: gnome- shell 3.36.9-0ubuntu0-20-04.2 I'm told that Gnome bugs have to be reported to a distro bug tracker first for proper component assignment, so I'm reporting here now. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933748 Title: Gnome menu items jumping up and down make clicking risky To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1933748/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I encountered a similar error when installing CUDA Toolkit 11.0 (which includes the Nvidia driver with version number 450.51). This seems to be caused by a change function (https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/88dca4ca5a93d2c09e5bbc6a62fbfc3af83c4fca) in Linux. After a few days, I found the guide https://gitlab.com/-/snippets/1986228 and successfully installed the driver. I hope it will help you to solve this problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1932998 Title: package nvidia-dkms-450-server 450.119.04-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: installed nvidia-dkms-450-server package post- installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-450-server/+bug/1932998/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1933741] [NEW] zmq.hpp claims to be 4.7.0 when it isn't
Public bug reported: The zmq.hpp appears to be using a pre-released version of `zmq.hpp` that has the version set to `4.7.0` while not containing all the features in that version. In particular, this does not include https://github.com/zeromq/cppzmq/commit/a3e5b54c3cad9dc1c4e86555e47365c2d3950e63. Since the commit introduces a deprecation warning that recommends a new feature introduced in the same commit, attempting to fix it using a version check causes a compilation error on Ubuntu 20.04 due to missing feature. ** Affects: zeromq3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933741 Title: zmq.hpp claims to be 4.7.0 when it isn't To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zeromq3/+bug/1933741/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1933701] Re: error right after installation finishes, desktop environment with everything looking big after first boot
** Description changed: This seems to be related to installation with "Third party software" (see update.5 below). (not a Linux expert here) I have tried installing both Ubuntu 20.10 and 21.10, and both showed me errors right after installation. For 20.10 the bug has supposedly already been reported, but this time it seems not (this report refers to Ubuntu 21.04). After installing Ubuntu 21.04, with the optional third party drivers and using the "erase and install" option, two bugs appeared and the desktop looks weird. The bugs are these: 1. "installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1" 2. "an error occurred while installing packages: E: Sub-procecss /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) the following packages are in a broken state: [suspiciously blank space, something should be listed here] this may be due [...]" After booting for the first time, everything on the desktop looked quite large and without animations (it looked nice when I selected the "try Ubuntu" before installing), and when I tried to update the system it reported this bug and prompted me to come here. If the report lacks any system info I will be happy to provide. update.1: tried to repeat the installation process and the same thing happened. update.2: after trying to update with "Software updater" a message appeared with "configuring shim-signed" on the left, and "install grub" with my disk listed below. Selecting the option only shows another option to "continue without installing grub" or something similar. update.3: performing partial upgrade did not help with any of the visual problems. update.4: cleaned up the partitions with gparted because of message about "grub" (deleted the big one, and the tiny one, formatting to ext4). Nothing changed. update.5: installed without third party software. Got the same errors about shim-signed and dpkg, HOWEVER desktop looke just like the "try Ubuntu" and things appear to be in order. Looks like this is something to do with third party, will check the desktop section... update.6: tried "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" in Ubuntu with third party software and desktop messed up, and the result was "x11". The same command returned "wayland" whith the installation without the software. update.7: just in case there is some relation between the problems, when installing 20.10, the installer crashes and directs me to the "resolved" bug report in this address: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1871268 + update.8: looking up what shim-signed is about, I noticed it is related to "grub". In case this info is of any use: all my previous attempts to install Ubuntu (multiple versions, throughout like 2 years) alongside Windows have failed. The installer does not show the "install alongside Windows" (my bios only has uefi+legacy, and not just legacy option), and manually allocating things has never made "grub" accessible, and windows always boots up first. In every system upgrade, additionally, the installer complains about grub. As instructed on the submission page, here are the versions of the packages: Checking for the version of "dpkg" on terminal it gave me this: "Installed: 1.20.9ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.20.9ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.20.9ubuntu1 500 500 http://br.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status" Checking for the version of "shim-signed" on terminal I got this: "Installed: 1.47+15.4-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 1.47+15.4-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1.47+15.4-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://br.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.46+15.4-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://br.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/main amd64 Packages" ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 21.04 Package: shim-signed 1.47+15.4-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.11.0-22.23-generic 5.11.21 Uname: Linux 5.11.0-22-generic x86_64 .proc.sys.kernel.moksbstate_disabled: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/proc/sys/kernel/moksbstate_disabled' ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu65 Architecture: amd64 BootEFIContents: BOOTX64.CSV grub.cfg grubx64.efi mmx64.efi shimx64.efi CasperMD5CheckResult: pass Date: Fri Jun 25 18:19:29 2021 EFITables: jun 25 18:25:43 helena-MS-7918 kernel: efi: EFI v2.31 by American Megatrends jun 25 18:25:43 helena-MS-7918 kernel: efi: ESRT=0xcef6a998 ACPI 2.0=0xce7aa000 ACPI=0xce7aa000 SMBIOS=0xf05b0 MOKvar=0xcb19c000 jun 25 18:25:43 helena-MS-7918 kernel: secureboot: Secure boot disabled jun 25 18:25:43 helena-MS-7918 kernel: esrt: Reserving ESRT space from 0xcef6a998 to 0xcef6a9d0. jun 25 18:25:43 helena-MS-7918 kernel: secureboot: Secure boot disabled ErrorMessage: installed shim-signed package post-insta

[Bug 1933726] [NEW] Unity is not working properly since 2021-06-15 system updates
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu Impish. Since the system was updated 2021-06-15, Unity is not loading properly, if at all: Lightdm is not working anymore, the system loads to a black screen with a cursor. Gdm3 does work and is able to load the Unity session. Once in Unity, I’m greeted by an error message instead of the regular Ubuntu background: “Something went wrong. An error occurred and the system can’t load. Log out and try again. ‘Close session’ button.” Using the Alt+launcher number, I am sometimes able to start an app, and after several, Unity may load, launcher and all, but the error message stays in the background. The environment theming and icons have all changed and Unity Tweak Tool can’t switch them back. GTK may be involved. Some features have been lost: I can’t start the calculator from the keyboard shortcut, number lock is not enabled on start up Settings > Power doesn’t return any energy readings. I can’t put the system to sleep. If I hit Fn+F8 on my keyboard, the session kinda resets and most (all) my apps are killed. Upon first loading the sessions, there is no cursor. If I manage to load and access Nemo, then the cursor appears with a big X, and eventually shows an arrow. Etc.
