How can I assign an icon theme? I think I have a collection of
icons somewhere -- maybe I should alter that?

[Bug 1934579] Re: Nautilus crashes when opening multiple "Places" folders from launch panel

2021-07-03 Thread koyakun
** Description changed:

After updating to Ubuntu 21.04, Nautilus crashes every time I try to
open a second folder by right-clicking on the Nautilus icon in the
"Favorites" left sidebar (i.e., launch panel) and selecting a bookmarked
"Places" folder. Normally, this would open a second Nautilus window for
the selected folder, but instead, any open Nautilus windows disappear
and no window opens for the selected folder. In other words, Nautilus
crashes. This did not occur on Ubuntu 20.10.

[Bug 1934542] Re: Open File yields colorless document list

2021-07-03 Thread Michael Kogan
Shutter cannot control this sort of things, it just launches the "Open
File" dialogue which is provided by some library. So it's definitely not
a bug in Shutter, I'm just trying to figure out what is happening and
how to solve the problem.

[Bug 1908139] Re: ThinkPad T14s external display not working on ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2

2021-07-03 Thread Chris
I'm running a Lenovo P14s AMD (basically same machine as T14 and similar
to T14s), with gen 2 dock (latest firmware), running Ubuntu 21.04 latest
updates, and I see this happen about every day, the external keyboard
and mouse stop working, and sometimes the monitor stops working...
sometimes just stops working when I come back to it, other times when I
plug into the dock. Only solution is reboot. When I reboot I see a
message like this:

drm:drm_dp_send_dpcd_read drm_kms_helper ERROR mstb port DPCD read on
addr 0x60 for 1 bytes NAKed

which freezes the machine and I have to do a hard reboot. I have not
seen the issue on Windows and I have a lot of time running it with
Windows also.

If it isn't too complicated, why not give the user a choice:
A) No colors (as at present) -- fastest
B) Same icons but with individual colors
C) Little preview images replacing colors in the icons.

[Bug 1933886] Re: tor browser not launching in impish (flavors; l/x/kubuntu)

2021-07-03 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

Trying to use tor-browser has the program open, then close but is
  unusable.

- this issue has existed for a few weeks (3 weeks+?) on my primary box (impish).
- I don't trust facebook, and use tor-browser to access fb to post UWN notice
on my local Tuesday morning most weeks, and have thus resorted to using another
box (focal setup) where it works last 3+ weeks.
+ this issue has existed for a few weeks (3 weeks+?) on my primary box
+ (impish).

- The login & post takes 2-3 mins max so I've not ignored issue.

+ notice on my local Tuesday morning most weeks, and have thus resorted to
+ using another box (focal setup) where it works last 3+ weeks.
+
+ The login & post takes 2-3 mins max so I've ignored issue.

I tried adding tor-browser to this recent QA-test install (impish),
- expecting it to work; alas I get the same issue here I have for awhile
- on my primary box. Using a focal (daily) install does NOT have this
- issue.
+ expecting it to work; alas I get the same issue here I have had for

+ this issue.

This issue is a problem only in IMPISH.
It impacts flavors - Lubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu
It does NOT impact Ubuntu with GNOME.

  ** To re-create

  - grab & boot a impish daily (Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu)
  - open terminal
  - `sudo apt install torbrowser-launcher`
  - execute torbrower-launcher & let it download etc.

If using Ubuntu Desktop - you'll end up in browser
If using a flavor, refer "Actual Results"
-

  ** EXPECTED RESULTS

I expect tor-browser to start, establish connection & remain open on
clicking in menu. This happens in Ubuntu Desktop with GNOME

  ** ACTUAL RESULTS

Tor browser opens at menu, establish connection dialog then it closes and
cannot be used.
(Kubuntu, Lubuntu & Xubuntu tested & do this)

  ** ADDITIONAL blurb

No CRASH file exists in /var/crash/

  This is a clean QA-test install of Lubuntu impish (maybe a few days old;
I forget). The only change made was monitor settings adjustment (my
screen setup differs to the default).

- It occurs in DAILY ISOs too without install.
-
+ It occurs in DAILY ISOs without install, installed systems & my primary
+ install (installed in artful cycle and upgraded every 6 months)

[Bug 1877762] Re: 1360x768 Vega graphics display staggered

2021-07-03 Thread Nathan Rennie-Waldock

I've tested kernel 5.11, 5.12.13 and 5.13, only 5.13 was working
correctly. Booting with nomodeset also corrected the display

[Bug 1934570] [NEW] emacs ediff mode treated badly

2021-07-03 Thread Bill Yikes
Public bug reported:

Ratpoison is probably working as designed here, but the design should
probably change. When running ediff-buffers in emacs, a tiny control
window is spawn. This control window needs focus to accept commands
while the two buffers under comparison each get half of a split window.
So one window is for keyboard input, and the other window is for
viewing.

In ratpoison, that tiny control window is expanded to consume the whole
frame thus hiding the comparison window. While it may be possible for
users to create a small tile for the control frame and get the
comparison window in an adjacent frame, it would be extremely tedious to
do that every time someone needs to diff two files. Perhaps a
workaround within emacs would be to embed the control window as a 3rd
split, but then it takes up more screen estate and still imposes undue
effort on the user.

Ratpoison needs a mechanism to handle that situation more elegantly.
One idea: make the control window a transparent overlay of the
comparison window. I'm not sure if that requires ratpoison to detect
and give special treatment to emacs, but in any case the status quo
isn't good.

[Bug 1934409] Re: Only one monitor showing in Color Corrections - System Settings Module

2021-07-03 Thread nukedathlonman
Well, colord no one tracks bugs (and I see lot's of ancient and very
open bugs).

Seen a couple that may or may not be similar, and the bugs go all the
way back to 11.04 - so I guess I'm the only person in the entire world
experiencing this...

But in case not, this problem would have a downstream effect on other
projects: gnome-color-manager (in my case it's pulled in by colord-kde).
Perhaps it's a problem in libxrandr2? I'm not fully sure of the
interrelations between the libraries for xrandr, colormgr, X, KDE,
Gnome, etc...

[Bug 1921134] Re: SBAT shim 15.4 release

2021-07-03 Thread Harm van Bakel
I tried installing the new shim package on a second system that also had
Oracle Virtualbox 6.1 installed and didn't encounter the same issue on
this system.

I then tried upgrading the first system again after first uninstalling
Virtualbox. This time there were no issues after the upgrade. I then
reinstalled Oracle Virtualbox 6.1 on this system that prompted the
installation of a new MOK. After registering the new key on a reboot
everything is working fine now. I'm guessing there was some MOK issue
specific to the system that was causing the issue, which was solved by a
reinstallation of Virtualbox.

[Bug 1934566] [NEW] Plasma-discover does not play nice with plasma session

2021-07-03 Thread Sergio Callegari
Public bug reported:

Plasma has an option to start up restoring the last session (that gets
autosaved at shutdown).

This lets one find all his/her applications nicely opened in the correct
virtual screens and locations after a logout and subsequent login (more

While (almost) all applications work nice with the session, plasma-
discover does not.

[Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full

2021-07-03 Thread Hayden Clark
This was a fresh install of 20.04. I enabled encryption as it's a work laptop.
I don't think I have logs - just the failure due to /boot being full on the
update UI.
I then followed the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RemoveOldKernels under "Safely remove old
kernels" so I could complete the update.

There were no /boot/initrd.img-*.old-dkms files, just kernels and
initrds corresponding to the kernels.

/boot is about 700Mb. More space is taken as both the -generic and -oem
kernels are being installed, even though I'd prefer the -oem ones.

[Bug 1934559] Re: Typo in capital of Ukraine

2021-07-03 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1934559

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

(You didn't indicate if it was noted on server/desktop; ie. is the
installer you're talking about `subiquity`, `ubiquity`. You've likely
shutdown the system, however if you can boot your media again, open a
terminal and then execute the apport-collect command - details will be
provided)

[Bug 1792980] Re: cannot install libudev-dev

2021-07-03 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
>Based on this information can You provide solution or at least
workaround?

Could you try to run `sudo apt update` or otherwise check for updates?
The freshly installed system is likely attempting to install the version
which was available at release which can result in conflicts like these.
Once you check for updates it should become aware of the latest version.
Like your second install which did check for updates during install and
was able to install the latest packages. (See also comment 2)

and "NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)"

So I removed 6.1.22-dfsg-2~ubuntu1.21.04.1 and install stock Vbox with a

[Bug 1777504] Re: Ubiquity crashed during the install of Ubuntu 18.04.

2021-07-03 Thread Andrew Sharrem
I have experienced the same or similar issue.
Installer crashes after "copying files" stage and at beginning of "installing"
stage.
When Slideshow is removed or otherwise not displayed, crash will occur.
However I have discovered that when you wait at "user creation" page, copying
occurs/continues in background. When copying has completed in the background
and you proceed with user creation, installation stage completes successfully.

Yes, assuming that what you call a "generic" icon is what I show in my
posted .png example.

Previously, these were multicolor icons; and, if possible, I'd like to
display them as such (if this is possible), because they were more
identifiable. Is the "generic" appearance my fault, or is it a
design change?
