Video lockup is reproducible.

This may not be a kernel issue. Switching to wayland display server

[Bug 1935760] [NEW] video locks up under kodi

2021-07-10 Thread Jerry Quinn
Public bug reported:

I have an Intel NUC 5PPYB hooked up to an AOC 4K monitor. I tried to
run kodi for the first time, added a video, and tried to play it. The
console locked up hard. Mouse doesn't move and I cannot get to a
virtual terminal either. I can still ssh into the system.

Eventually I see a kworker task blocked for a long time.

[Bug 1935568] Re: after having a bug reported, locked screen, and coming back, ubuntu-bug -w leaves a gksudo dialog for dmesg open

2021-07-10 Thread Henning Sprang
I tested a bit more.

I tried again with ubuntu-bug -w and selected thunderbird.

Today I directly get a visible and reacting sudo dialog when reporting a
bug for thunderbird.

I am very sure that I did not get this dialog the last time, only as
described the broken unresponsive one. Because I also was a bit upset
about the amounts of data about my system, my devices, my username, my
ip address got attached to my bug...

Anyway, not sure if this a bug in gnome/ gnome-shell rather than ubuntu-
bug/apport itself...

[Bug 1935568] Re: after having a bug reported, locked screen, and coming back, ubuntu-bug -w leaves a gksudo dialog for dmesg open

2021-07-10 Thread Henning Sprang
Yes I understood that, that's why I explained a bit about jack and that
I never saw an apport activity or the problem with the dmesg dialog
before just because of jackd.

So, I deleted the /var/crash stuff, and locked the screen and back in, as you
suggested, but no problem appeared.

I could provoke a jack crash again by switching my sound device off while jack
was running.
I get crash reports in /var/crash but no hanging dmesg dialog as described in
the original report.

[Bug 1927065] Re: ClamTk does not run scan

2021-07-10 Thread John100
According to https://gitlab.com/dave_m/clamtk/blob/master/CHANGES, this
issue seems to have been fixed on version 6.08 - 20210218.

Related Debian bug report (seems to have been erroneously closed, as the
package has not been updated): https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=981384 .

2021-07-10 Thread Thomas Ward
Unsubscribing sponsors as I've sponsored this. Server Team: do me a
solid and keep an eye out for any autopkgtest failures in case I miss
them - I have a lot of mail so sometimes I don't see the failure notices

Uploaded to impish-proposed. Should be building, and provided no
autopkgtests fail it should migrate to impish repos on its own.

[Bug 1927065] Re: clamtk does not run scan on directory

2021-07-10 Thread John100
Same issue here, same output when ClamTk is started in a terminal.

Ubuntu MATE Release 21.04 (Hirsute Hippo) 64-bit. ClamTk from default
repository.

If, according to previous comment, ClamTk has been fixed, then its
Ubuntu package needs to be updated, as this bug makes it absolutely
useless - it can't scan neither when started from the GUI, nor via file
context menu.

I am also experiencing it in 20.04, but I do not think it is a match
with this bug. I have never noticed it on 16.04 on the same HW for 5
years. Since upgrade it happens from time to time. NVidia binary drivers
in use, both before and now.

[Bug 1935749] [NEW] [string totitle] does not actually convert to title case

2021-07-10 Thread Bill Yikes
Public bug reported:

The [string totitle] operation is falsely named and falsely documented.
The actual behavior of this operation gives /sentence case/, where only
the first character of the whole string is capitalized. Title case
requires the first character of every word in the string to be
capitalized.

I suggest:

* rename "totitle" to "tosentence"
* create a new "totitle" function that actually delivers title casing

Falling short of the above, if it's determined that changing this
behavior would trigger too many problems with pre-existing code, at a
minimum the man page should be updated to make the false naming clear.
It should start with something like "Does not return title case but
actually returns sentence case" and other mentions of "title case" in
the description should be replaced with "sentence case".

[Bug 1934882] Re: package has invalid Support Legacyheader

So the Support Legacyheader was a red herring.

Debugging the ubuntu-drivers python showed that
ubuntu-drivers install

linux-modules-nvidia-460-generic

when run manually this gives the output:

So perhaps something did get cleaned up correctly in the upgrade?
Searching for this error led me to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-390/+bug/1768050 where the suggested fix for running dpkg-divert
--remove, resulted in ubuntu-drivers install running successfully.

Not sure why this output didn't show up when I initially call ubuntu-
drivers from the cmd line. Perhaps because the GUI had already called it
and now apt was unhappy there was no output, just a non-zero return
code?

[Bug 1935734] Re: nautilus can't open folder as root

2021-07-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1935734

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

(I realize you know this, but it fills details in the bug report,
provides the ISO date (ie. daily) etc)

Some additional details (explanation) may also be handy, eg. I had the
current Ubuntu daily running on the box besides me, and used `sudo
nautilus` to open a session & didn't encounter any issues. It maybe I
didn't do what you did, but few details were provided.

(I'm also running on a box used for QA-test installs so no real data
files to explore)

[Bug 1861278] Re: RTL8821CE - 5GHZ networks not working

2021-07-10 Thread justcomplaining
I have news: I can connect to my 5 GHZ network now. I am not sure why though.
(1) I changed the 5GHZ channel
(2) I changed the frequency band from 80mhz to 40mhz
(3) Maybe the last driver update from March did something?

Here are my current outputs (I don't think there's much change though):

dmesg | grep 8821

[2.506732] rtl8821ce: module verification failed: signature and/or required

[Bug 1934564] Re: Ubuntu logo shows as forbidden/missing icon in About

2021-07-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Ubuntu impish daily on
- hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)

Settings -> About shows a RED rounded-edge box with lighter-red circle-X

This will be what @EoflaOE refers to.
It's NOT what I saw on my primary install (which was a debian logo).

Either way FIX has been released
Daily has 1:40.0-1ubuntu1 installed :(

Closed settings
Installed update (1:40.0-1ubuntu2)
Re-opened settings & UBUNTU LOG appears :)

[Bug 1853164] Re: systemd: /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved error

2021-07-10 Thread Daniel Richard G.
FWIW, the fix in focal-proposed looks good on my end as well.

I can confirm that the /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved script
now has the is-enabled check, and while I won't be able to test out
resolvconf, I regard the updated conditional as equivalent to my
previous known-good workaround (renaming the script to
resolved.DISABLED, so it is not sourced by dhclient-script).

Greatly appreciate the bug squash!

A quick look at the source reveals that SSHGuard has a parser for its
own logs, which seems to be to support remote sshguard logging scenario.

There does not seem to be a way to configure SSHGuard actions per-
service, and it is always logging using LOG_AUTH facility (4). Which
means SYSLOG_FACILITY=4 can never be used as a filter currently, the
only solution is to filter the logs *before* they reach SSHGuard.

[Bug 1935737] [NEW] Debug dependencies in features2d

2021-07-10 Thread Stefan Fabian
Public bug reported:

The debian package for the features2d module (libopencv-features2d4.2
4.2.0+dfsg-5) on Ubuntu 20.04 has a dependency on the highgui module which is
only a debug dependency and should not be a dependency of the release binary.
This dependency indirectly adds dependencies on almost a complete desktop
environment which is undesirable on headless systems.
May also be the case for other components.
I have only checked core flann imgproc imgcodecs and features2d of which only
features2d includes debug dependencies. Haven't checked the dev versions.

[Bug 1854621] Re: ubuntu 20.04 daily boots with no (or warped) background, selecting other background has warped wallpaper

2021-07-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Ubuntu impish desktop live QA-test of
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)

at the try/install query (maybe-ubiquity) I get video glitches at top of
wallpaper

changing wallpaper gets black background or glitchy-wallpaper (varying
each time) - ignoring that for now

VIDEO GLITCHES on wallpaper are actually appearing on the workspaces
display (may not be gnome terminology sorry); which I did not expect
(has it done that before? I've forgotten?).. in fact they're on the
screenshots?? Looking at bug report they've occurred before; maybe
it's just me not testing gnome very often (or not on this old slow box)

[Bug 1877655] Re: [Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140] Trackpad does not work

2021-07-10 Thread Tudor Holton
I experienced this same issue today after upgrading to Ubuntu 21.04 also
on a Dell 7140 with the same trackpad.

I followed the above advice:
1. install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package -> sudo apt install
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics -y
2. Masking the service fwupd using systemctl mask fwupd.service command

...and my trackpad is now working again.

Kernel 5.4.0-42 isn't packaged for Ubuntu 21.04 so I couldn't do the
last steps, but it seems I didn't need them.

So, from this, it seems that fwupd is trying to do some firmware update
in relation to the trackpad which is giving the trackpad into a hissy
fit. Disable fwupd, no update. No update, no problems. :-)

[Bug 1932328] Re: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows

2021-07-10 Thread Yves Roggeman
** Description changed:

Using Ubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute) that starts in Wayland, by default.
Thunderbird version: 78.11.0 with "gnome-support" package.
  Same problem in safe mode.
  Description:
By default in this context, TB is a Wayland task.
When opening a compose windows (or reply or transfer), sending mail
apparently close the windows, but gnome shell continue to show multiple
"points", as if multiple windows are still active.
- And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes
impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass" do
not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal.
+ And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes
impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass"
does not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal.
  Provisional solution:
Modify .desktop file to launch with --display=:0 option, that force to use
XWayland interface, as shown by xlsclients (for example).
But it is actually a bug under Wayland context, that also badly interfer with
many add-ons or extensions.

[Bug 1934992] Re: rsync 3.2.x in Groovy depends on broken libxxhash 0.7.x

2021-07-10 Thread wdoekes
Thanks, Robie, for the excellent response.

> Actually I'm not sure it's a symbol versioning issue now.

Maybe this example can persuade you that there is a problem between
(lib)xxhash in Focal and in Groovy:

  focal$ xxh128sum <(echo -n)
  07fd4e968e916ae11f17545bce1061f1 /dev/fd/63

  groovy$ xxh128sum <(echo -n)
  99aa06d3014798d86001c324468d497f /dev/fd/63

> I suggest you find the fix and send it to wherever
> the problem originates in our ecosystem (maybe Debian?
> Or perhaps xxhash upstream?). Unless a supported
> use case is presented, I think it's unlikely that
> we'll carry a patch for this in Ubuntu.

I think I can safely say now that the problem originates in the Debian
package:

if the symbols file is altered as I have done here [1] the problem goes away:
[1] https://github.com/norbusan/debian-xxhash/issues/3
```
--- a/debian/libxxhash0.symbols
+++ b/debian/libxxhash0.symbols
@@ -1,9 +1,9 @@
 libxxhash.so.0 libxxhash0 #MINVER#
- XXH128@Base 0.7.0
- XXH128_canonicalFromHash@Base 0.7.1
+ XXH128@Base 0.8.0
+ XXH128_canonicalFromHash@Base 0.8.0
...
```
A rebuild of rsync against a libxxhash0 with the above symbol changes will
properly Depend on 0.8.0+.

I am just not intimately familiar with the rules for these symbol files, so I'm
not 100% sure if the above changes are "legal". Can you shed some light on this?

> I'd appreciate a fix at the origin of the problem,
> and that would go into a subsequent Ubuntu release

Well. If we get the symbols file updated so it says 0.8.0, then
subsequent updates from Debian would trickle into Ubuntu. Then any _new_
builds (of for example rsync) against the updated libxxhash library
package would get the dependencies fixed.

That does leave the problem of libxxhash 0.7.x on Ubuntu/Focal:

- it has a broken xxh128sum binary
- it exposes access to old/invalid xxh128 functions leading to possible future
problems when people start upgrading their libxxhash0

To remedy that, I would suggest a rebuild of xxhash + libxxhash0 on
Focal where all xxh128 symbols/functionality is removed/blacklisted.

I could do some quilting that simply `#if 0`'s the relevant code. Is
this something that would be accepted?

[Bug 1913676] Re: libmariadb3 fails to include caching_sha2_password.so

2021-07-10 Thread Daniel Black
This is a critical bug. More so on Ubuntu because of it installing MySQL
by default. It affects all default connections to the MySQL with MariaDB
connector/C and its dependent library, and every application that
depends on this libmariadb3.

I thought the merge 5 months ago into buster would of made it to the 2
months ago 10.2.29 release. Odd, but so was the 10.5 only #962597 fix.

If you don't want to package 10.3.30 because it only includes bug fixes
and not security fixes, ok, but package increment on
libmariadb3-1:10.3.29 to resolve this please.

[Bug 1913676] Re: libmariadb3 fails to include caching_sha2_password.so

2021-07-10 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
At https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/mariadb-10.3 one can see the overview
for MariaDB 10.3.

The bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=988255 was
fixed in 1:10.3.29-0+deb10u1 which is now in Debian stable (Buster) and
from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.3 one can see that
1:10.3.29-0ubuntu0.20.10.1 is in Groovy and 1:10.3.29-0ubuntu0.20.04.1
in Focal.

However the commit https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-
team/mariadb-10.3/-/commit/4562041f1afdcce5a313fc70478a0fbf789966a1 went
only on the Buster branch on Salsa. We need to apply it also on the
Groovy and Focal branches next time we upload. MariaDB 10.3.10 would be
a candidate, but it is not a security release. I don't remember if we
ever shipped "stable udpates" into Ubuntu and what is the process. Maybe
we will wait until August for 10.3.31 and put this commit in there..?
