[Bug 1940761] [NEW] multi-monitor edges still sticky with Sticky Edges turned off
Public bug reported: Just upgraded to this: ` DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=20.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=focal DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS" ` I've turned off sticky edges but they're still sticky--sometimes! What's weird about this is that it's only a problem going from the primary (lower) monitor to the secondary (higher). I have them set in an 'above and below' configuration, not horizontal. Going from the lower monitor to the higher one is really hard. I do not know exactly what package governs this but it wasn't a problem in any previous release since 12.04 ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1940761 Title: multi-monitor edges still sticky with Sticky Edges turned off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1940761/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1940131] Re: sudo ua attach is not working
Thanks @slava for the confirmation. So, no that image base is not derived from a supported Canonical cloud image. If you have control over what base image you are using for your machine launch or imaging process, or if you can talk to your cloud provider about obtaining official images from here https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/ it may make your use-case a bit easier in the future. That said, if your or your cloud providers are unable to move to Canonical official Ubuntu cloud images, we have also landed a fix in tip of ubuntu-advantage-tools[1] that will avoid that specific traceback you hit in this bug report. Once ubuntu-advantage-tools version > 27.2 is released, you will be able to drop your uaclient.conf settings_overrides without fear of Tracebacks. [Bug 1231091] Re: Screenreader starts, but does not work with installer (ubiquity) in live session
It's been well over a month since I last reported on this, so I think it's fine time I reported about the latest on the subject. My above comment was mostly correct and slightly wrong. Interestingly, stock Ubuntu 21.10 does not use Wayland (on my setup, at least, with Intel integrated graphics); it uses X11, just like Ubuntu MATE does. But interestingly, Ubiquity on stock Ubuntu starts the *GNOME Shell*, whereas Ubiquity on Ubuntu MATE only starts Marco, a generic Ubiquity top panel (which is supposed to be stocked with indicators, but Ubiquity's panel only works with Unity indicators and not Ayatana indicators), the MATE Settings Daemon, and a handful of other programs. Furthermore, like I suspected, both Ubuntu and Ubuntu MATE start the Ubiquity greeter as root, except their *effective* user IDs are both the respective live session users (`ubuntu` and `ubuntu-mate`, respectively). The latter is done probably to allow communication over D-Bus, because my experiments show that if the process' effective UID is not 999 (the live session user), neither version of Ubiquity will interact with the screen reader. Here's the proof. The first snippet was taken on an Ubuntu 21.10 system (that took me eons to download); the second is from an Ubuntu MATE 21.10 system. Ubuntu: RUSEREUSERPIDPPID COMMAND ubuntu ubuntu 19481941 /usr/bin/pipewire ubuntu ubuntu 19491941 /usr/bin/pipewire-media-session ubuntu ubuntu 19501941 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --daemonize=no --log-target=journal ubuntu ubuntu 19531941 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --session --address=systemd: --nofork --nopidfile --systemd-activation --syslog-only ubuntu ubuntu 19661941 /usr/libexec/dconf-service ubuntu ubuntu 19831703 /usr/libexec/gsd-a11y-settings ubuntu ubuntu 19861703 /usr/libexec/gsd-keyboard ubuntu ubuntu 19871703 /usr/libexec/gsd-media-keys ubuntu ubuntu 20041703 /usr/libexec/gsd-power ubuntu ubuntu 20051703 /usr/libexec/gsd-xsettings ubuntu ubuntu 20061703 gnome-shell --sm-disable --mode=ubiquity root ubuntu 20282009 /usr/bin/python3 /usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity --greeter --only ubuntu ubuntu 21512146 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --config-file=/usr/share/defaults/at-spi2/accessibility.conf --nofork --print-address 3 ubuntu ubuntu 21661941 /usr/libexec/at-spi2-registryd --use-gnome-session Ubuntu MATE: RUSEREUSERPIDPPID COMMAND ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+18821875 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --daemonize=no --log-target=journal ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+18931875 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --session --address=systemd: --nofork --nopidfile --systemd-activation --syslog-only ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+18961875 /usr/libexec/dconf-service ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+19261694 /usr/bin/mate-settings-daemon ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+19271694 marco --sm-disable ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+19311694 /usr/lib/ubiquity/panel ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+19381694 nm-applet ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+20001875 /usr/libexec/at-spi-bus-launcher ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+20072000 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --config-file=/usr/share/defaults/at-spi2/accessibility.conf --nofork --print-address 3 root ubuntu-+20081942 /usr/bin/python3 /usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity --greeter --only ubuntu-+ ubuntu-+20931875 /usr/libexec/at-spi2-registryd --use-gnome-session The output was abbreviated slightly; I remove unrelated processes like the RealtimeKit daemon and UDisks. As you can see, the Ubiquity process (`/usr/bin/python3 /usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity` on both of them) runs with a real UID of root, but an effective UID of either `ubuntu` or `ubuntu-mate` (the latter was chopped off by `ps`). So there's no dissimilarity there. ***However...*** With the screen reader enabled, from a command line (Ctrl-Alt-F2) I tried launching a text editor on each of them, first as user 999: DISPLAY=":0" pluma & ...and then as root: sudo env DISPLAY=":0" pluma & ...and then with a real UID of 0 and an effective UID of 999, just like Ubiquity: sudo env DISPLAY=":0" setpriv --ruid 0 --rgid 0 --euid 999 --egid 999 --init-groups pluma & The first command cooperated with the screen reader on both systems (i.e., the screen reader told me stuff like "Edit menu... Select All Ctrl-A"). The last two commands worked fine on Ubuntu but not on Ubuntu MATE. I tried these experiments also on the live desktop, not just at the Ubiquity greeter. The results were the same regardless of whether I tried it on the live desktop or on the Ubiquity greeter. Clearly, Ubuntu and Ubuntu MATE are configured differently, somehow pertaining to user IDs allowed to use accessibility features. But where? I ran the above experiments, but through `strace -s 1048576` to capture all (or most) communications going on between pluma / gedit and D-Bus. The resu

[Bug 1940756] [NEW] VirtualBox always using mic, breaks all audio playback
Public bug reported: KDE's system tray shows Virtualbox is always using the microphone, even when no gust is configured to use it. When all the guests are stopped, there is no notification about the microphone. The serious problem is that when Virtualbox is using the microphone, it screws up all audio playback in the guests and the host. All sound has a static-like hissing mixed into. It happens whether sound playback in the guest (also Ubuntu 20.04) or the host, when playing back web streams, or playing back local files in a variety of media players such as Clementine or VLC. The problem happens when the guest's audio controller is set to ICH AC97 and Intel ICH 9. Disabling audio input on the guest makes no difference either. The only thing close to a work around I've found is to completely disable audio on all guests. Due to the nature of some of my VMs, that is very undesirable. ** Affects: virtualbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1940756 Title: VirtualBox always using mic, breaks all audio playback To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/1940756/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1940749] Re: Hardinfo 'storage' output not showing devices
Hello Ian, I posted an update in the bug report which states the following: HardInfo is a small application that displays information about your hardware and operating system. Currently it knows about PCI, ISA PnP, USB, IDE, SCSI, Serial and parallel port devices. The Processor is Intel(R) Pentium(R) Gold 7505 @ 2.00GHz x 4 and the Storage device is an SSD, BC711 NVMe SK hynix(128GB). I suspect hardinfo doesn't recognize the SSD and it doesn't like the extended flags in /proc/cpuinfo Otherwise hardinfo seems to function normally. Please let me know if anyone has an SSD that is being recognized and I will keep digging. Thank you Let me know if this is inaccurate. [Bug 1779764] Re: GNU Parallel is nagware
The requirement to type "will cite" has always bothered me a bit. I must use literally thousands of software packages in my (biosciences) research, and only only "GNU parallel" does this nag. For example, I use parallel to launch multiple copies of a file conversion software. It is not customary in my field to cite the file conversion software even though this is essential to the research at hand, and parallel is a (very welcome! much appreciated!) convenience with a time-saving contribution. Many journals restrict citations to the <50 most pertinent, and one never sees Matlab or Python making the cut in a biology journal. It would be crazy noise to have 10,000 citations in a paper on the entire software dependency chain. It is a bit irksome to type "will cite" when knowing that 1) it's not a contract & not actually required, and 2) it's not true. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779764 Title: GNU Parallel is nagware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/parallel/+bug/1779764/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1940754] [NEW] All scans via sane deteriotad by compression artefacts for Brother MFC-L2710DW
Public bug reported: I have a Brother MFC-L2710DW printer with integrated flatbed scanner. There are two major problems when scanning with sane: The first problem is that the quality of all scanned images is very poor due to 8x8 pixel JPG compression artefacts. The root coarse seems to be the backend, as the result is the same independently if the image is acquired through xsane or scanimage. The second problem is that sane only scans up to 300 dpi. 1200 dpi is not offered at all and for 600 dpi the error message "Failed to start scanner: Invalid argument" is displayed. Interestingly the message is displayed after the scanner has completed the scan, but the data seems not to be received or understood by sane. The scanner works fine in Ubuntu with the commercial software vuescan, which rules out a firmware bug or malfunctioning of the scanner itself. [Bug 1940749] [NEW] Hardinfo 'storage' output not showing devices
Public bug reported: I installed Hardinfo on my Dell Inspiron 3501 running Ubuntu 20.04. I installed hardinfo: sudo apt-get install -y hardinfo When I select 'Storage' in the GUI nothing populates. The pane/window is totally blank. I have run hardinfo in the command line and I am receiving the following error: Warning: truncated a line (probably flags list) longer than 896 bytes while reading /proc/cpuinfo. Upon further inspection the 'Flags' field in /proc/cpuinfo is populated with a large quantity of strings and characters. Therefore this error is to be expected in my opinion. I just ran: sudo apt-get install --reinstall hardinfo This did not fix the issue with 'storage'. I have checked the other "sections" of the GUI and all other portions of the output seem to be functioning normally. I have also posted the link of the forum in which I first reported the issue to the askubuntu community, where I have detailed all the steps I have taken so far to attempt to fix the issue. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1359220/hardinfo-doesnt-display- anything-in-the-storage-section?noredirect=1#comment2328347_1359220 ** Affects: hardinfo (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1940749 Title: Hardinfo 'storage' output not showing devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hardinfo/+bug/1940749/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full
Hayden Clark, so you use "oem" kernels. If you do not need "generic" kernels, you can save a lot of space in /boot by deleting all "generic" kernels. Probably the easiest way to do it in your case is "sudo apt autoremove linux-generic-hwe-20.04". Check that it does not remove any "oem" kernels. If that does not work, you can use "sudo linux-purge --choose --optimize" and choose all "generic" kernels for purging. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1678187 Title: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1678187/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
