[Bug 1915501] Re: init.d script fails to set socket ownership and permissions on slower systems
Hi Harald. I'm happy for this bug to be closed. (FYI I'm currently in the process of decommissioning this old server, and replacing it with a new machine which supports the latest Ubuntu distro.) [Bug 1941937] Re: kubuntu focal.3 no wallpaper on one display, right-click not working on that display
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: ** Background Performing a QA-test install (Lubuntu impish) to - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290) testcase: install using existing partition (sda1) On the box existed - Lubuntu focal.3 (system selected for replacing with impish) - Xubuntu focal.3 (an install-alongside or auto-resize QA-test) - Kubuntu focal.3 (another install-alongside/auto-resize QA-test) I'm booting the Kubuntu focal.3 expecting no changes.. The QA-test done days ago was good and I passed it without issues. This will be it's first login after that initial-post-install checks where I noticed nothing wrong. ** What I see My displays are setup to match my config (one display set above the other), however wallpaper on my.bottom display is present & looks normal NO WALLPAPER appears on my.top display right-click on my.bottom display is pulling up menu allowing me Create.New..Configure.Desktop as expected. right-click on my.TOP display however does nothing Moving windows around is perfect.. ** ACTUAL BEHAVIOR Wallpaper on both monitors, not just my.bottom display Right click of background pulls up menu on both displays, not just my.bottom ** EXPECTED BEHAVIOR Wallpaper on both monitors, and right-click works both displays. (It did this in the initial boot after QA-test install; this is now 2nd boot of system which is first time I've noted this behavior) ** Note (LXQt has exhibited same behavior in focal) This thought is likely red herring - it reminded me of https://bugs.launchpad.net/openbox/+bug/1845756 which is tagged against openbox thus doesn't apply here. Originally I said "I've had this behavior before with LXQt & I can't recall if this was put down to an issue in Qt 5.12.8 (fixed in later releases), or openbox (which won't apply here of course).." -- I'll complete this QA-test and aim to return and add more later. This box is only used for QA-test installs, so system may not exist for very long. It's likely more useful if I repeated this with Kubuntu impish... but vanvugt's comment on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1930945 implies that's of limited value This bug MAYBE should be filed against linux/nouveau ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: plasma-workspace 4:5.18.5-0ubuntu0.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.11.0-27.29~20.04.1-generic 5.11.22 Uname: Linux 5.11.0-27-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.18 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Sat Aug 28 13:32:25 2021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-08-26 (2 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.04.3 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210819.1) SourcePackage: plasma-workspace UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.18 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: guiverc 804 F pulseaudio + CasperMD5CheckResult: skip + CurrentDesktop: KDE + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-08-26 (2 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.04.3 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210819.1) + IwConfig: + lono wireless extensions. + + enp0s25 no wireless extensions. + MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc7700 Small Form Factor + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcFB: 0 nouveaudrmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.11.0-27-generic root=UUID=27bd4e3d-7a58-434f-b833-a1d616e66b9e ro quiet splash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.11.0-27.29~20.04.1-generic 5.11.22 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-5.11.0-27-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-5.11.0-27-generic N/A + linux-firmware 1.187.16 + RfKill: + + Tags: focal + Uname: Linux 5.11.0-27-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin lxd plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + dmi.bios.date: 08/30/2006 + dmi.bios.release: 1.5 + dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.bios.version: 786E1 v01.05 + dmi.board.name: 0A54h + dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.chassis.type: 4 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvr786E1v01.05:bd08/30/2006:br1.5:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPCompaqdc7700SmallFormFactor:pvr:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn0A54h:rvr:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct4:cvr: + dmi.product.family: 103C_53307F + dmi.product.name: HP Compaq dc7700 Small Form Factor + dmi.product.sku: ET090AV + dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard ** Attachment added: "AlsaInfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1941937/+attachment/5521310/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed
[Bug 1941938] [NEW] systemd trying to unmount non-existent file system
Public bug reported: This output is copied from here: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/20516 because I have not been able to capture the error messages. However what I am seeing is identical. sd-umoun[2406]: Failed to unmount /oldroot: Device or resource busy sd-umoun[2407]: Failed to unmount /oldroot/dev/pts: Device or resource busy sd-umoun[2408]: Failed to unmount /oldroot/dev: Device or resource busy shutdown[1]: Failed to finalize file systems, ignoring This has happened consistently since I upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 two weeks ago, and is really annoying. Is there an actual problem or is it just noise that can be safely ignored? The only other thing referencing oldroot in its config was snap, which I have completely uninstalled to isolate the problem. /lib/systemd/systemd-shutdown also contains this string: # strings systemd-shutdown |grep old /oldroot sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, &mask, &oldmask) == 0 sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, &oldmask, NULL) == 0 I have never had an /oldroot mount and there isn't one now. I gather it is something the upgrade process might create, or it could perhaps be something broken in finalrd. Bin Li, who posted the above error to the systemd bug portal, got short shrift there and was told to contact the distro. So I am, as my version of systemd is 245, same as his. This problem is 100% repeateable and I see it every time I shutdown or restart. [Bug 1939086] Re: autopkgtest failures due to squid "(111) Connection refused" on armhf
I believe the problem here is that ruby honors http_proxy, but does not honor no_proxy; so because we're in an environment requiring a proxy, requests that are supposed to go to localhost are sent to the squid proxy instead. What I'm not clear on is why this works on runners *except* for armhf, since all of these runners set http_proxy. Unfortunately, gem2deb-test-runner does not have support for overriding the environment the way that pkg-perl-autopkgtest does (via debian/tests/pkg-perl/smoke-env). Someone who knows ruby could modify the tests to unset http_proxy from the environment, which ought to address the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1939086 Title: autopkgtest failures due to squid "(111) Connection refused" on armhf To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thin/+bug/1939086/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1941932] [NEW] Reverting to nouveau driver leaves dead nvidia links causing suspend and shutdown to fail
Public bug reported: After having problems with the nvidia driver 470, I reverted to the nouveau driver, only to find that using suspend or shutdown in the XFCE4 menu just returned to the login page. However, I found that using the 'shutdown' or 'pm-suspend' commands worked OK. Checking syslog after a failed suspend lead me to /etc/systemd/system directory: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root9 Aug 25 15:04 nvidia-hibernate.service -> /dev/null lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root9 Aug 25 15:04 nvidia-resume.service -> /dev/null lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root9 Aug 25 15:04 nvidia-suspend.service -> /dev/null Also, there were two directories containing links to the above 'masked' services. Deleting those links restored suspend and shutdown functionality. drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 26 18:14 systemd-hibernate.service.requires/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 26 18:08 systemd-suspend.service.requires/ Obviously a problem in removing all the nvidia settings. ** Affects: software-properties (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 20.04.2 software-properties xubuntu ** Tags added: 20.04.2 software-properties xubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1941932 Title: Reverting to nouveau driver leaves dead nvidia links causing suspend and shutdown to fail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/1941932/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1835630] Re: Relax dependency on specific version of libnvidia-compute-NNN
I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 and I just upgraded my nVidia driver to 470 which immediately broke my nvtop. Something I use regularly to help balance my resourcing in my workflow. How is it that it's TWO YEARS and this STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED? Get it together Canonical. This punishes users for upgrading their GPU drivers. By the way 470 adds a whole bunch of Wayland support stuff, so you'd think Canonical would be on-board with helping users have a good experience in things like this. Fix. It. [Bug 1920957] Re: Remove rust-proc-macro2 and rust-proc-quote
I have hesitated to act on this because the rust-proc-macro2 that's in -proposed has passed its tests without issue in Debian, and the versions of these packages in the release pocket aren't failing their tests in the release, only in -proposed. So removing these packages would regress us compared with Debian, without afaik anyone understanding why. [Bug 1921518] Re: OpenSSL "double free" error
@Vladimir This is an improvement. Previously we were getting: double free or corruption (out) But now it is: Bus error So some progress has been made. Can you please install debug symbols, and generate a complete traceback with debug symbols? or a core dump with debug symbols? (libcurl4-dbgsym curl-dbgsym libssl1.1-dbgsym) Also which libpka are you using? Were debug symbols compiled for it, and can you share it? Is it just the latest build from github? [Bug 1941913] [NEW] Disables Wi-Fi just because
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: - Install an unrelated package, such as lxqt Expected behavior: - Nothing in particular happens until I choose to launch lxqt Actual behavior: - Wi-Fi is suddenly down - nmcli conn up says “Error: Connection activation failed: No suitable device found for this connection (device wlan0 not available because device is not available).” - ip link set wlan0 up says “RTNETLINK answers: Operation not possible due to RF-kill” - rfkill does not say anything because it does not happen to be installed Apparently the following happened: - lxqt has an (optional!) dependency on a widget that controls the network, none of which were installed previously, and APT chose cmst (perhaps because it’s the first alphabetically in the list of alternatives) - as dependency of cmst, connman got installed, started itself, saw a Wi-Fi device, and obviously, when a network management daemon starts on a system already managed by a different daemon, the correct course of action is to assert dominance by rfkilling the Wi-Fi device. Thankfully, connman’s post-init script took ages to run and it was still visible in the terminal where I ran APT, so I was able to associate the connection loss with it and look up (on a different machine!) the solution of `connmanctl enable wifi`. Now imagine a user that is unable to make the connection in all senses of the expression, how are they to solve the problem? Suggested resolution: - the fight to the death between network managers should happen in some symbolic way without rfkilling spectators. - packages that can rfkill interfaces should depend on the rfkill package so the user can, upon seeing the RF-kill message, resurrect the interface manually. ** Affects: connman (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1941913 Title: Disables Wi-Fi just because To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/connman/+bug/1941913/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
