[Bug 1943645] [NEW] Please remove gnome-getting-started-docs from impish

2021-09-14 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

It was just removed from unstable — see Debian bug — but due to Ubuntu's
language split it probably needs to be removed manually here.

[Bug 1888130] Re: Jogl 2.3.2 crashes with "Profile GL4bc is not available on X11GraphicsDevice" - fixed in Jogl 2.4.0

This is reported as a regression in 20.04 post-release, however neither
of the packages listed as affected by this bug have been updated in
focal. This needs someone to identify which package changing introduces
the regression.

[Bug 1943124] Re: Upgrade fails due to "text file busy"

2021-09-14 Thread David Kastrup
I did and sent the tar file encrypted to your Gmail account. Hope you
got it.

Another thing: libc6-bin is already installed in the new version, and
calling `locale` gives an error message like

locale: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.34' not
found (required by locale)

The `apt --fix-broken install` run complains about this. I removed the
locale binary temporarily to get

Can't exec "locale": No such file or directory at
/usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Encoding.pm line 16.
Use of uninitialized value $Debconf::Encoding::charmap in scalar chomp at
/usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Encoding.pm line 17.

I have no idea what this is being used for but maybe it is in some way
related to unexpected things happening and culminating in the listed
error?

[Bug 1937115] Re: Unable to boot/install Impish daily in UEFI boot mode

2021-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
This is because debian-installer somehow was uploaded for 18.04.6 built
against shim-signed 1.37~18.04.10+15.4-0ubuntu7 instead of shim-signed
1.37~18.04.11+15.4-0ubuntu9. Not sure how or why this happened, but
shim-signed has been released to bionic-updates now, so I'll rebuild
debian-installer for the fix.

[Bug 1937897] Re: GPIO error logs in start and dmesg after update of kernel

2021-09-14 Thread Ole Jon Bjørkum
To be clear this issue started with Kernel 5.8.0-63 NOT 5.11 (on Focal /
20.04 HWE LTS)

Well Ubuntu Kernel Bot, that's exactly what I did in comment #14
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1937897/comments/14

Latest 5.13 kernel in -prosed on Focal (20.04.3) gets the same gpio
errors and warnings in dmesg and "journalctl -b" as with the current
5.11 HWE kernel.

X570 Motherboard
Ryzen 9 3950X Zen2 CPU

Same error appears twice during boot. Here's the output from "journalctl
-b"

---
sep. 12 15:37:43 tux kernel: gpio gpiochip1: (gpio_aaeon): tried to insert a
GPIO chip with zero lines
sep. 12 15:37:43 tux kernel: gpiochip_add_data_with_key: GPIOs 0..-1
(gpio_aaeon) failed to register, -22
sep. 12 15:37:43 tux kernel: gpio-aaeon: probe of gpio-aaeon.0 failed with
error -22
sep. 12 15:37:44 tux kernel: gpio gpiochip1: (gpio_aaeon): tried to insert a
GPIO chip with zero lines
sep. 12 15:37:44 tux kernel: gpiochip_add_data_with_key: GPIOs 0..-1
(gpio_aaeon) failed to register, -22
sep. 12 15:37:44 tux kernel: gpio-aaeon: probe of gpio-aaeon.0 failed with
error -22
---

They're both "gpiochip1 - GPIOs 0..-1", so why try again right after the
first fails?

Does NOT appear on my Intel NUC Core i3. It's a 2013 model but runs the
exact same kernel at least. Likely not on any Intel based motherboards.

[Bug 1943638] [NEW] apt_check.py crashes with exception "AttributeError"

2021-09-14 Thread No Spam
Public bug reported:

On my Ubuntu server, I received the message for quite some time (> 1 year):

[Bug 1943637] [NEW] Screensaver is invisible when activated by lid close

2021-09-14 Thread Nathan Rennie-Waldock
Public bug reported:

My power management settings are set to lock screen when the lid is
closed. When this happens, the screensaver activates, but is not visible
(desktop can't be interacted with, typing password and pressing enter
unlocks it).

I'm running Xubuntu and have tried:

* xscreensaver instead of xfce4-screensaver
* slick-greeter instead of lightdm-gtk-greeter

Which made no difference. I'm now using sddm instead of lightdm and no
longer having this problem, so I believe the bug is in lightdm. This is
possible a duplicate of #1853709, but I'm unsure as that one is
specifically talking about suspend, mine is set to lock, not suspend.

[Bug 1867537] Re: 10-link-restrictions.conf missing - removed by postinst

2021-09-14 Thread Peter White
Oh, I just found the file. It has a different name than suggested in the
changelog:

/usr/lib/sysctl.d/protect-links.conf

And silly me didn't of just checking what sysctl returns for those values set
in there. It's all good:
$ sudo sysctl fs.protected_fifos
fs.protected_fifos = 1
$ sudo sysctl fs.protected_hardlinks
fs.protected_hardlinks = 1
$ sudo sysctl fs.protected_regular
fs.protected_regular = 2
$ sudo sysctl fs.protected_symlinks
fs.protected_symlinks = 1

So, from my POV the debsums error, while technically correct, is a non-
issue.

Hello Łukasz, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ubiquity into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/18.04.14.17 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See

performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in

[Bug 1940656] Re: Potential use after free bugs in 1.1.1

2021-09-14 Thread Robie Basak
Thanks Marc and Dimitri! With Marc's confirmation this is unblocked from
the SRU queue then.

But please don't assign me. Any member of the SRU team can process this.
Assigning individual SRU team members not part of the SRU process,
implies an implied lock that isn't there, and would only delay things
because I am not processing SRUs this week.

[Bug 1943627] [NEW] Controllers test in ubuntu_ltp fails to mount on /dev/cpuctl

2021-09-14 Thread Luke Nowakowski-Krijger
Public bug reported:

Found on Focal linux-gcp 5.11.0-1019.21 on g1-small instance.

The tests are not able to mount on /dev/cpuctl which is causing cpu controller
testing, latency tests, and cpuctl_test_fj to fail, seems to be only on
g1-small instances.

This error has been observed in previous cycles and is not a new
regression.

[Bug 1943623] Re: system-info.version in YAML output needs ' ' quoting

2021-09-14 Thread Colin Ian King
** Description changed:

+ == SRU Justification HIRSUTE/FOCAL ==
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ The system information YAML output from stress-ng is not quoting the
+ system-info.version data. If this contains # then it really confuses
+ YAML parsers.
+
+ [The Fix]
+
  Upstream fix:

  commit a52f236917f51a4fdc54873cc6ca33e24df1a41f
  Author: Fabien Malfoy
  Date: Tue Sep 14 12:16:09 2021 +0200

- core-helper: Quote the system-info.version value in YAML metrics
+ core-helper: Quote the system-info.version value in YAML metrics
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ Run:
+
+ stress-ng -Y output.yaml --cpu 1 -t 1
+
+ Examine the output.yaml file for the system-info version: field. Without
+ the fix it is not in quotes. With the fix it is in ' ' quotes, e.g.:
+
+ version: '#12 SMP Thu Jul 22 08:02:41 UTC 2021'
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ This changes just the yaml output and makes it now parsable. Problems
+ may occur if folk have put in a workaround to parse the original buggy
+ output.
+
+ The change does not affect core stress-ng functionality, so regression
+ potential of breaking stress-ng is very small.

[Bug 1942673] Re: glibc AddressSanitizer:DEADLYSIGNAL

2021-09-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello, thanks for reporting this to us.

Fuzzers are fantastic tools but getting good results from them is
difficult: they do not actually point out 'the flaw', it still requires
significant investigation of the process state to determine what
internal inconsistency has been exposed, before fixing the flaw. This
investigation and fixing is best carried out together with upstream
software authors, who (reasonably enough) usually want to work with the
newest version of their software, or a development version of their
software.

So, to get the most value from your fuzzing efforts, please:

- fuzz either the most recent release, or development versions, depending upon
the project.
- coordinate fuzzing efforts with the project, to find interfaces that need
fuzzing and interfaces that do not need fuzzing.
- minimize the test cases, to simplify root-cause analysis.
- prepare a patch; even if not accepted by upstream developers, a patch that
addresses a problem often helps narrow down what needs fixing.
- report results directly to upstream developers, in whatever manner they
prefer.

Please also consider submitting test harnesses to upstream developers to
use Google's oss-fuzz project, https://google.github.io/oss-fuzz/ which
will run fuzzers on projects using Google's resources, for free. Many
projects could benefit from this service but may not have the time to
learn how to do this themselves.

Thanks

[Bug 1867537] Re: 10-link-restrictions.conf missing - removed by postinst

2021-09-14 Thread Peter White
Just found this, because I also noticed the debsums error. A quick look in the
changelog finds this:

> -0800

But apparently that file never arrived downstream? Neither find /usr ...
nor apt-file search can find it. Having had a look at the contents of
said file by opening the .deb archive has me a bit worried:

> # These settings eliminate an entire class of security vulnerability:
> # time-of-check-time-of-use cross-privilege attacks using guessable
> # filenames (generally seen as "/tmp file race" vulnerabilities).

This could very well warrant a bump in severity, given there are
security implications.

A simple workaround is to just copy that file manually into
/etc/sysctl.d under a different name, so postinst can't find it, should
it try to murder it again. :P Of course it won't solve the debsums error
but it solves the bigger problem of the file missing entirely.

[Bug 1943624] [NEW] Driver r8169 causes very slow download speed due to ASPM

2021-09-14 Thread Sriram R
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu Server 21.04 (kernel 5.11.0-34-generic) and have run into
a serious network issue where the internet download speed is around
25Mbps on a 150Mbps connection!

My setup:

Lenovo Ideapad 300S with a wired Ethernet connection.
Running Ubuntu Server 21.04 (kernel version 5.11.0-34-generic).
Wired Ethernet connection with RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit
Ethernet Controller (r8169) driver.
My contract with the ISP is for a 150Mbps download speed.

My problem:

The download speed is extremely low, around 25Mbps whereas my upload
speed is 'normal' around 80-90Mbps. I use 'speedtest-cli' for measuring
the bandwidth, by the way.

This problem does not happen on an Acer Aspire One laptop running the
same kernel and connected to the same router.

After scouring through countless articles, I noticed that there were lot
of issues with the r8169 driver and the RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express
Gigabit Ethernet Controller subsystem.

What eventually fixed the issue for me was setting the "pcie_aspm=off"
kernel parameter during boot. But I strongly feel that is a 'workaround'
and not a solution to the real problem, which is the r8169 driver has
regression with newer kernels, hence filing this bug.

Thanks in advance for all your support! I'm a big fan of Ubuntu!!!

[Bug 1940504] Re: Support Alder Lake P graphics

2021-09-14 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-firmware into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
firmware/1.187.17 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: linux-firmware (Ubuntu Focal)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

2021-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
(ubiquity should be setting up the locale properly before this point;
but ubuntu-drivers shouldn't be crashing either.)

** Summary changed:

- ubuntu-drivers crashes due to click when ubiquity runs the Polish language
(locale)
+ ubuntu-drivers crashes in python3-click when ubiquity runs the Polish
language (locale)
