[Bug 1943637] [NEW] Screensaver is invisible when activated by lid close
Public bug reported: My power management settings are set to lock screen when the lid is closed. When this happens, the screensaver activates, but is not visible (desktop can't be interacted with, typing password and pressing enter unlocks it). I'm running Xubuntu and have tried: * xscreensaver instead of xfce4-screensaver * slick-greeter instead of lightdm-gtk-greeter Which made no difference. I'm now using sddm instead of lightdm and no longer having this problem, so I believe the bug is in lightdm. [Bug 1943614] Re: ubuntu-drivers crashes in python3-click when ubiquity runs the Polish language (locale)
Hello Łukasz, or anyone else affected, Accepted ubuntu-drivers-common into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-drivers- common/1:0.8.6.3~0.18.04.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed- bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification- failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** Changed in: ubuntu-drivers-common (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1943614 Title: ubuntu-drivers crashes in python3-click when ubiquity runs the Polish language (locale) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1943614/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1867537] Re: 10-link-restrictions.conf missing - removed by postinst
Oh, I just found the file. It has a different name than suggested in the changelog: /usr/lib/sysctl.d/protect-links.conf And silly me didn't of just checking what sysctl returns for those values set in there. It's all good: $ sudo sysctl fs.protected_fifos fs.protected_fifos = 1 $ sudo sysctl fs.protected_hardlinks fs.protected_hardlinks = 1 $ sudo sysctl fs.protected_regular fs.protected_regular = 2 $ sudo sysctl fs.protected_symlinks fs.protected_symlinks = 1 So, from my POV the debsums error, while technically correct, is a non- issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867537 Title: 10-link-restrictions.conf missing - removed by postinst To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/procps/+bug/1867537/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1942673] Re: glibc AddressSanitizer:DEADLYSIGNAL
Hello, thanks for reporting this to us. Fuzzers are fantastic tools but getting good results from them is difficult: they do not actually point out 'the flaw', it still requires significant investigation of the process state to determine what internal inconsistency has been exposed, before fixing the flaw. This investigation and fixing is best carried out together with upstream software authors, who (reasonably enough) usually want to work with the newest version of their software, or a development version of their software. So, to get the most value from your fuzzing efforts, please: - fuzz either the most recent release, or development versions, depending upon the project. - coordinate fuzzing efforts with the project, to find interfaces that need fuzzing and interfaces that do not need fuzzing. - minimize the test cases, to simplify root-cause analysis. - prepare a patch; even if not accepted by upstream developers, a patch that addresses a problem often helps narrow down what needs fixing. - report results directly to upstream developers, in whatever manner they prefer. Please also consider submitting test harnesses to upstream developers to use Google's oss-fuzz project, https://google.github.io/oss-fuzz/ which will run fuzzers on projects using Google's resources, for free. Many projects could benefit from this service but may not have the time to learn how to do this themselves. [Bug 1867537] Re: 10-link-restrictions.conf missing - removed by postinst
Just found this, because I also noticed the debsums error. A quick look in the changelog finds this: > procps (2:3.3.16-1ubuntu1) focal; urgency=low > [...] > * Dropped changes, no longer needed: > ... > - 10-link-restrictions.conf: this is redundant with link-protect.conf > from Debian. > * debian/procps.maintscript: handle migration of link-protect.conf from > /etc to /usr. > > -- Steve Langasek Thu, 13 Feb 2020 22:53:02 > -0800 But apparently that file never arrived downstream? Neither find /usr ... nor apt-file search can find it. Having had a look at the contents of said file by opening the .deb archive has me a bit worried: > # These settings eliminate an entire class of security vulnerability: > # time-of-check-time-of-use cross-privilege attacks using guessable > # filenames (generally seen as "/tmp file race" vulnerabilities). This could very well warrant a bump in severity, given there are security implications. A simple workaround is to just copy that file manually into /etc/sysctl.d under a different name, so postinst can't find it, should it try to murder it again. :P Of course it won't solve the debsums error but it solves the bigger problem of the file missing entirely.

[Bug 1943624] [NEW] Driver r8169 causes very slow download speed due to ASPM
Public bug reported: Running Ubuntu Server 21.04 (kernel 5.11.0-34-generic) and have run into a serious network issue where the internet download speed is around 25Mbps on a 150Mbps connection! My setup: Lenovo Ideapad 300S with a wired Ethernet connection. Running Ubuntu Server 21.04 (kernel version 5.11.0-34-generic). Wired Ethernet connection with RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (r8169) driver. My contract with the ISP is for a 150Mbps download speed. My problem: The download speed is extremely low, around 25Mbps whereas my upload speed is 'normal' around 80-90Mbps. I use 'speedtest-cli' for measuring the bandwidth, by the way. This problem does not happen on an Acer Aspire One laptop running the same kernel and connected to the same router. After scouring through countless articles, I noticed that there were lot of issues with the r8169 driver and the RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller subsystem. What eventually fixed the issue for me was setting the "pcie_aspm=off" kernel parameter during boot. But I strongly feel that is a 'workaround' and not a solution to the real problem, which is the r8169 driver has regression with newer kernels, hence filing this bug. Thanks in advance for all your support! I'm a big fan of Ubuntu!!! Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Bug 1942927]
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and publish the package. [Bug 1942991] Re: zfs: can't read /proc/sys/kernel/spl/hostid
The issue is that reading the interface provides a weird kernel looking error on an invalid address and the fact that the kernel is trapping this and shoving a kernel error message into a proc text file looks plain bad and can concern users who read these files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1942991 Title: zfs: can't read /proc/sys/kernel/spl/hostid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-linux/+bug/1942991/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
