[Bug 1945078] [NEW] openvswitch crashing and rebooting with dpdk

2021-09-25 Thread Satish Patel
Public bug reported:

I am running Focal 20.04 with Openstack OVN and trying to setup dpdk
support for high performance networking but i am not lucky, As soon as i
spin up VM its getting setup and start pinging and which in few second
OVS switch crashed and restarted. I try to reach out some folks in IRC
for openvswitch support and they said it might be issue of TSO and they
said patch is out there but may be not include in distribution package.

Patch:
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/openvswitch/patch/162548620436.40409.579366497986013480.stgit@wsfd-
netdev64.ntdv.lab.eng.bos.redhat.com/

My openvswitch version is following

root@ovn-lab-comp-dpdk-1:~# dpkg -l | grep openvswitch
ii openvswitch-common 2.13.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2
amd64Open vSwitch common components
ii openvswitch-switch 2.13.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2
amd64Open vSwitch switch implementations
ii openvswitch-switch-dpdk 2.13.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2
amd64DPDK enabled Open vSwitch switch implementation
ii python3-openvswitch 2.13.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2
all Python 3 bindings for Open vSwitch

Does anyone hit this kind of issue where openvswitch keep crashing and
rebooting (interesting this it doesn't created crash dump so not sure where to
look and what to look?)

[Bug 1883742] Re: funky font rendering on kubuntu

2021-09-25 Thread gregrwm
** Description changed:

The 3 screenshots are all of the same conversation in my gmail inbox.
One screenshot was taken running Firefox Nightly on a Focal Ubuntu
install, where the font rendering seems fine. The other two screenshots
- were taken running Firefox Nightly on a Focal Kubuntu install.
+ were taken running Firefox Nightly on a Focal Kubuntu install where the
+ rendering is funky.

- Even on Kubuntu, the font spacing on my gmail inbox looks right on
- Chromium (Version 83.0.4103.61 Official Build snap 64-bit), but is funky
- (extra spaces within words) on Firefox Nightly, thus this was first
- reported as http://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/issues/53474
+ This only happens on Kubuntu, eg running kubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-
+ amd64.iso live. Lubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso live is fine, no
+ funky font rendering.

- In Firefox Nightly on Kubuntu, the font placement/spacing often shifts
- around, sometimes spuriously, and sometimes when interacting, for
- example when i tick or untick the conversation as in the the 2nd and 3rd
- screenshots. Note how all the "t"'s move over in "Opportunities",
- "Youth", "item", and "interest".
+ Even on Kubuntu, when using Chromium (Version 83.0.4103.61 Official Build
snap 64-bit), the font spacing on my gmail inbox looks fine, thus i first
reported this as
+ http://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/issues/53474
+ But they conclude it's not a Firefox issue.
+
+ The funky font rendering only happens with the combination of Kubuntu
+ (with all package updates as of 9/20) with either Firefox or Firefox
+ Nightly eg version 94.0a1 (2021-09-24) (64-bit). Letters are often
+ mispositioned, jammed into the adjacent letter on one side and/or far
+ away from the adjacent letter on the other side. And the font
+ placement/spacing often shifts around, sometimes spuriously, and
+ sometimes when interacting, for example when i tick or untick the gmail
+ conversation, as in the the 2nd and 3rd screenshots. Note how all the
+ "t"'s move over in "Opportunities", "Youth", "item", and "interest".

I saw the same behavior as Sebastian in linux mint 20.2.
Tried with apps "flameshot" and "obs-studio" - both behave

QT apps are stuck about 25 seconds. Strace exactly like Sebastian's:

connect(12, {sa_family=AF_UNIX, sun_path="/run/user/1000/bus"}, 110) = 0
… yada yada …
poll([{fd=14, events=POLLIN}], 1, 25000
… 25 second timeout …
(something in strace about … Timeout)

I was helped by (https://www.scivision.dev/disable-gnome-keyring-ssh-agent/)

Edit /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop to include the line:

X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false

and restart. Not just logout, full restart.

Now all same apps start in 0 secs.

[Bug 1861712] Re: nodejs-dev package pinned to libssl 1.0.*

2021-09-25 Thread Minx Ab
@cgseller

> What I do not fully grok is why so few people have run across this
situation?

Not few, but believe most install libssl1.0-dev or give up. If one look
at stack-exchange and similar networks the issue (and it's family tree)
has tens of thousands of views and there is a huge list of issues on
sites like github for various projects. In addition a long range of blog
posts and other writings on the issue.

Also see: https://github.com/nodejs/TSC/blob/main/OpenSSL-Strategy.md

The *launchpad* system for *affecting-me* requires login and guess not
that many have an account or never end up here. A *views* counter would
likely give more of a hint to the volume. Also notice again and again
that answers, blogs etc including sites like SE almost (never) say
"Please go here and say it affects you" linking to bugs.

[Bug 1945075] [NEW] wayland: is not possible to setup several displays

2021-09-25 Thread DimanNe
Public bug reported:

I decided to try wayland and got several issues, in the order of
(subjective) importance:

### Issue 1

I have two monitors, one of which is rotated 90 degrees, so I tried to set them
up in wayland session (as I did in X). You can see on the screenshot
"wayland_display_settings.jpg" that I specified that it is rotated and pressed
"Apply", and one of them *is* rotated on the preview.
However, you can see that actual content on that display is not rotated.
Also, note where the task panel is located on the first display - it is in the
centre of the screen.

Just in case, here is xrand command I am using in X:
xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 3840x2160 --pos 0x790 --scale 1.1875x1.1875 \
--output DP-0 --mode 3840x2160 --pos 4560x0 --rotate left --primary

### Issue 2

It looks like some options are missing. In X, there are:
   * "Replica of: None" option, which disables duplicating of image.
   * "Primary" checkbox, which removes panel from secondary display.
but there are not such options in Wayland.

### Issue 3

Scaling deteriorates sharpness, makes thin lines blurry. See screenshot
of Krusader 125scale_vs_100scale.png. Thin lines become blurry.

I was using this short guide to setup Wayland:

In the "Standard" and "Light" modes, the buttons are not displayed

That should help with problem solving.

[Bug 1908402] Re: Kubuntu 20.10 fails to boot after installation from ISO

2021-09-25 Thread Paul White
Ubuntu 20.10 (groovy) reached end-of-life on July 22, 2021.

This issue should probably have been filed against "ubiquity", the
Ubuntu/Kubuntu installer.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn
more about this functionality at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs. By doing so
appropriate log files (which are missing here) will be added
to the bug report. They will assist in ascertaining the cause of
the installation failure.

I'm closing as this report as it is no longer valid.

[Bug 1945072] [NEW] getaddrinfo crashes on negative answers after Truncated retry

2021-09-25 Thread Christopher K Brown
Public bug reported:

Programs using getaddrinfo will segfault downstack of the call in limited
circumstances.

We have limited this crash to a specific situation, some of these
details may not be relevant to the problem but are included in case they
are:

- getaddrinfo makes two requests, A and , using UDP
- At least one of the replies to the two requests is truncated
- getaddrinfo makes two additional requests, A and , using TCP
- At least one of the the replies to the two TCP requests has an empty answer
section
  - For example, the response comes back with a REFUSED or SERVFAIL
  - Even a NOERROR with an empty answer section will cause this crash

Sample gai call:

  struct addrinfo* results;
  int ec = getaddrinfo(host.c_str(), "", nullptr, );

This is difficult to reproduce without being able to control the replies
yourself since downstream must give a negative answer on the TCP after
answering the UDP. (This can happen, the downstream server can decide not to
answer for any number of policy reasons.)

Using 18.04.5. glibc version is 2.27.

2021-09-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can
learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in "linux" which is the Linux kernel. Please provide any
additional information that might be requested if this is still an issue
with your current Ubuntu installation.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1945063] [NEW] Ubuntu Dock Bug with window minimize when having Dock at the bottom

2021-09-25 Thread motang
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 21.10 (I know it is still not released, but wanted to test it).
I noticed that there a bug where when you have the Dock at the bottom and you
launch an app, which minimizing it it won’t minimize to the bottom as it still
thinks the Dock is off to the left. Once you change work spaces then only does
the app realize that the dock is at the bottom of the screen. Please see

[Bug 1944468] Re: Electron applications all crash upon launch

2021-09-25 Thread Marcos Alano
I installed your glibc packages and 1Password start to work again.
However I had problems with Widevine in Firefox (.deb package). It was
crashing when I used GMP sandboxing. If I disabled temporarily the
sandbox Netflix and other services worked again. Someone could test to
see if it's a general bug related to glibc or I'm just the (not) lucky
one?

[Bug 1945062] [NEW] grub-installer crashes during installation of Ubuntu on lvmraid (2 SATA). There is an ITE8212, also

2021-09-25 Thread Stefano Lodi
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install Ubuntu on a software raid, using two SATA disk and lvm.
Installed Lubuntu and Openmandriva on a ITE8212 without problem.
The first try using mdadm, fail.
The second using lvm, probabily suffer for a non-proper clean system. I think
somewhat on devicemap or grub or udisk...
Now, the installation DVD is in, I'll try a reboot. Good luck for me!

about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1945060/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

SUMMARY
"Cannot refresh cache whilst offline" -- except I'm not offline, obviously
since I'm filing this report.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click the icon indicating updates are available in the task bar
2. Click 'check for updates'.
3. Notice it gives an error message and does nothing of any use.

System is the latest Ubuntu 'eoan', though this bug has been around for
a long time.

My system's network is configured via systemd/networkd as is indicated in
/etc/netplan.
I don't use the network manager for anything. This bug appears whether the
disused network-manager is enabled or disabled in systemd, or is running or not
running.

That's the problem. Your configuration is unsupported (not by Discover
but by PackageKit itself). If you don't want to use NetworkManager, you
need to remove it. If it's installed, you need to use it.

Not my decision, but this is the way the PackageKit people believe it
ought to behave. See https://github.com/hughsie/PackageKit/issues/336

Is there any development about this issue?

It's happening on latest Kubuntu 21.10 Beta - I am unable to search and
install updates through Discover with this error and also unable install
packages from regular Ubuntu repositories "no network connection
available" but it is able install snaps... so in essence Discover is
crippled right now in Kubuntu.
