[Bug 1883742] Re: funky font rendering on kubuntu
** Description changed: The 3 screenshots are all of the same conversation in my gmail inbox. One screenshot was taken running Firefox Nightly on a Focal Ubuntu install, where the font rendering seems fine. The other two screenshots - were taken running Firefox Nightly on a Focal Kubuntu install. + were taken running Firefox Nightly on a Focal Kubuntu install where the + rendering is funky. - Even on Kubuntu, the font spacing on my gmail inbox looks right on - Chromium (Version 83.0.4103.61 Official Build snap 64-bit), but is funky - (extra spaces within words) on Firefox Nightly, thus this was first - reported as http://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/issues/53474 + This only happens on Kubuntu, eg running kubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop- + amd64.iso live. Lubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso live is fine, no + funky font rendering. - In Firefox Nightly on Kubuntu, the font placement/spacing often shifts - around, sometimes spuriously, and sometimes when interacting, for - example when i tick or untick the conversation as in the the 2nd and 3rd - screenshots. Note how all the "t"'s move over in "Opportunities", - "Youth", "item", and "interest". + Even on Kubuntu, when using Chromium (Version 83.0.4103.61 Official Build snap 64-bit), the font spacing on my gmail inbox looks fine, thus i first reported this as + http://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/issues/53474 + But they conclude it's not a Firefox issue. + + The funky font rendering only happens with the combination of Kubuntu + (with all package updates as of 9/20) with either Firefox or Firefox + Nightly eg version 94.0a1 (2021-09-24) (64-bit). Letters are often + mispositioned, jammed into the adjacent letter on one side and/or far + away from the adjacent letter on the other side. And the font + placement/spacing often shifts around, sometimes spuriously, and + sometimes when interacting, for example when i tick or untick the gmail + conversation, as in the the 2nd and 3rd screenshots. [Bug 1945075] [NEW] wayland: is not possible to setup several displays
Public bug reported: I decided to try wayland and got several issues, in the order of (subjective) importance: ### Issue 1 I have two monitors, one of which is rotated 90 degrees, so I tried to set them up in wayland session (as I did in X). You can see on the screenshot "wayland_display_settings.jpg" that I specified that it is rotated and pressed "Apply", and one of them *is* rotated on the preview. However, you can see that actual content on that display is not rotated. Also, note where the task panel is located on the first display - it is in the centre of the screen. Just in case, here is xrand command I am using in X: xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 3840x2160 --pos 0x790 --scale 1.1875x1.1875 \ --output DP-0 --mode 3840x2160 --pos 4560x0 --rotate left --primary ### Issue 2 It looks like some options are missing. In X, there are: * "Replica of: None" option, which disables duplicating of image. * "Primary" checkbox, which removes panel from secondary display. but there are not such options in Wayland. ### Issue 3 Scaling deteriorates sharpness, makes thin lines blurry. See screenshot of Krusader 125scale_vs_100scale.png. Thin lines become blurry. I was using this short guide to setup Wayland: https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland/Nvidia ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 21.10 Package: kwin-wayland 4:5.22.5-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.13.0-16.16-generic 5.13.13 Uname: Linux 5.13.0-16-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu69 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Sat Sep 25 22:41:55 2021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-01-30 (238 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.10 "Groovy Gorilla" - Release amd64 (20201022) SourcePackage: kwin UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to impish on 2021-09-25 (0 days ago) ** Affects: kwin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug impish third-party-packages ** Attachment added: "wayland_display_settings.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945075/+attachment/5528041/+files/wayland_display_settings.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945075 Title: wayland: is not possible to setup several displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kwin/+bug/1945075/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1945072] [NEW] getaddrinfo crashes on negative answers after Truncated retry
Public bug reported: Programs using getaddrinfo will segfault downstack of the call in limited circumstances. We have limited this crash to a specific situation, some of these details may not be relevant to the problem but are included in case they are: - getaddrinfo makes two requests, A and , using UDP - At least one of the replies to the two requests is truncated - getaddrinfo makes two additional requests, A and , using TCP - At least one of the the replies to the two TCP requests has an empty answer section - For example, the response comes back with a REFUSED or SERVFAIL - Even a NOERROR with an empty answer section will cause this crash Sample gai call: struct addrinfo* results; int ec = getaddrinfo(host.c_str(), "", nullptr, ); This is difficult to reproduce without being able to control the replies yourself since downstream must give a negative answer on the TCP after answering the UDP. (This can happen, the downstream server can decide not to answer for any number of policy reasons.) Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in "linux" which is the Linux kernel. Please provide any additional information that might be requested if this is still an issue with your current Ubuntu installation. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881886 Title: When I turn off the computer, the keyboard and mouse do not turn off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1881886/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1945063] [NEW] Ubuntu Dock Bug with window minimize when having Dock at the bottom
Public bug reported: Running Ubuntu 21.10 (I know it is still not released, but wanted to test it). Once you change work spaces then only does the app realize that the dock is at the bottom of the screen. [Bug 1945060] Re: firefox browser opens and then closes, but chromium web browser does work fine.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1945060/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. That's the problem. Your configuration is unsupported (not by Discover but by PackageKit itself). If you don't want to use NetworkManager, you need to remove it. If it's installed, you need to use it. Not my decision, but this is the way the PackageKit people believe it ought to behave. It's happening on latest Kubuntu 21.10 Beta - I am unable to search and install updates through Discover with this error and also unable install packages from regular Ubuntu repositories "no network connection available" but it is able install snaps... so in essence Discover is crippled right now in Kubuntu.
