[Bug 1941044] Re: ax210 [8086:2725] subsystem [8086:0020] wifi adapter disappears with upgrade to linux-firmware 1.187.16

2021-09-26 Thread You-Sheng Yang
I think there is a defect in iwlwifi-ty-a0-gf-a0.pnvm that its existence
would force older kernels to use FW API 63 or so. The current pnvm file
cannot be loaded along with -59 firmware even with v5.15-rc2 kernel, and
we'd need -63 fw for ADL platforms anyway.

[Bug 1945090] Re: lubuntu 18.04 install failed at Grub installation stage

2021-09-26 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Don't forget Lubuntu was a flavor of Ubuntu, where flavors only came
with 3 years of supported life. Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop, Server & Cloud
products came with five years of support.

I don't see any flash-media issue (ie. squashfs errors), but grub-
installer issues.

[Bug 1886169] Re: "nl80211 driver interface is not designed to be used with ap_scan=2"

2021-09-26 Thread rerdavies
Supplementary information you may find useful.

The Wi-Fi module on Pi-4 is not able to act as an Access Point *and*
scan for wi-fi addresses at the same time. On Raspbian, this is dealt
with by (1) specifying a fixed channel; and (2) adding the following
line to /etc/dhcpcd.conf:

   nohook wpa_supplicant

and (3) disabling (masking?) the wpa_supplicant service.

If the wpa_supplicant service is running, any attempt to scan for wi-fi
devices will take down the access point connection.

For some reason, on Rasbiam (Debian derived), the network manager
*fork*s wpa_supplicant in order to do a wifi scan when restarting, if
the wpa_supplicant service has been disabled or masked, unless the
nohook wpa_supplicant line is added. This happens early in the network
manager restart, and can cause various unpleasant symptoms ranging from
occasional drops all the way up to a fullblown deathspiral of all
network services depending on timing.

I'm not sure what the equivalent fix is on Ubuntu; but my reading of the
message is:

"This device is not able to do wi-fi scans when operating as an access
point".

I'm currently running Ubuntu 21.04, which uses a different network
stack, I think (no wpa_supplicant, no hostapd), so I can't try
workarounds myself. It sounds like 18.04 is using the old network stack,
so the raspbian changes will probably work on Ubuntu 18.04 as well.

In the meantime, I'm going to resume my search for the equivalent fix
for an almost identical problem on the new network stack used by 21.04.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at

[Bug 1909005] Re: Ubuntu does not resume (wake up) from suspend

2021-09-26 Thread Jamie Gill
Seeing this bug on my Dell Inspiron 15, 5515
Ubuntu 20.04.3
5.11.0-36-lowlatency

Seeing one of the following two behaviors everytime it goes into
suspend:

1) The machine goes into suspend okay, and when I press power it doesn't
turn back on from suspend. I hold power to turn off, then press power
again and it will come back on.

OR

2) The machine goes into suspend okay, and when I press power it turns
on but hangs at a black screen. I hold power to turn off, then press
power again and it will come back on.

Machine is dual booted with Windows and Ubuntu -> only seeing issues in
Ubuntu

Populate self.floating_ips_dict using "ip rule" information

When the L3 agent starts, reads the floating IP rule priority from
a state file created by "FipRulePriorityAllocator". In case of not
having all floating IPs registers in this file, the method:
- Creates a new priority for this floating IP.
- Creates the "ip rule" in the namespace.
- Adds a new entry in "self.floating_ips_dict".

All "ip rules" present in the namespace that do not match the
registered fixed IP address ("from") and the priority assigned
are deleted.

[Bug 1945136] [NEW] Broken audio capture subsystem

2021-09-26 Thread navycat
Public bug reported:

In Impish the problem of capturing audio by discord (from app or browser does
not matter) when broadcasting reappeared.
The window is being captured or not - it doesn't matter.
It looks like a regression.

Webcamoid don't capture sound from micro too.

If I set gstreamer method instead of ffmpeg 4.4 then sound appears, but very
laggy
Discord launched in a browser and streaming an adjacent tab does the same.
I don't even know what to report on. Looks like a broken audio capture
subsystem.

[Bug 452073]

2021-09-26 Thread Qa-admin-q
Dear Jérôme,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open,
confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked
on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has
been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really
appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still
present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of
LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

[Bug 1940860] Re: Mellanox NIC interface names change between 5.4 and 5.8

I should say here that I don't really know what changes to subiquity are
desirable here. I don't really like the idea of subiquity always using
set-name, that just feels wrong, but I can see the problem here too.

[Bug 1935969] Re: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS installer crash when letting the system determine size of additional LV

2021-09-26 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Thanks for the crash file and sorry for the slow response. From the
crash file:

Volume group "ubuntu-vg" has insufficient free space (6271 extents):
6272 required.

We are only off by one! I think the lesson here is that we need to be
more careful about LV sizes, this code is basically assuming one can
take the size of the VG, divide it by two and create two LVs of that
size but that's not really true, you can only create LVs whose size is a
multiple of the extent size, which is by default 4MiB (and subiquity
does not allow controlling this).

[Bug 1943238] Re: memory requirements

2021-09-26 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I tried with 2 GiB and hit a failure in update-initramfs which is
perhaps not super surprising as we switched initramfs compression this
cycle. Maybe we need to tweak the settings there to be more memory
friendly.

[Bug 1939015] Re: [Ubuntu 20.04.2 Server] Autoinstall max() arg failure with cloud-config LVM

2021-09-26 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Sorry for the late reply. This is very strange, the error is in code
that really shouldn't be executing in this case. If you try 20.04.3 you
should be able to start a shell after the install fails which will at
least make debugging more possible.

My only guess is that somehow subiquity thinks your block devices are
unreasonably small (so somewhat related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/1943609, although subiquity
would have to think _all_ disks are small to hit this in your case I
think).

[Bug 1944400] Re: Install does not finish when using interactive-sections: identity

2021-09-26 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
The stuff about the identity page not being filled from the autoinstall
data is known (at least to me, not sure there's a bug about it).

The non-completion is strange. From the server log it looks though the
identity page was never submitted, and maybe even looks like it or the
client crashed. If you can reproduce this (I just tried and it seemed to
work fine, although my config was a simpler), are there crash files in
/var/crash?

[Bug 1931582] Re: Add LOGO to /etc/os-release

2021-09-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
What package would contain the distro logos? Would we need to have base-
files Depend on that package?

** Description changed:

/etc/os-release can provide a logo file, this is now used by gnome-
control-center to show the logo into the info panel.

If ubuntu would provide its logo name in such file we would be able to
remove the downstream patch that forces the usage of
- /usr/share/icons/vendor/scalable/emblems/emblem-vendor.svg
+ /usr/share/pixmaps/ubuntu-logo-icon.png
+
+ References
+ ---
+ https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/os-release.html
+
+ https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/merge_requests/985
+ GNOME Control Center, as of version 41, can look for variations of the named
LOGO. So we should offer those variations if possible too.

[Bug 1914685] Re: Please enable CONFIG_UBSAN_BOUNDS

2021-09-26 Thread Rashad Tatum
So, 5.14.7 and NVIDIA 470.74 fixes the boot issue. However, isn't
potentially harmful to leave CONFIG_UBSAN_TRAP enabled in production
builds? The documentation for the flag seems to indicate that warnings
would be turned into the errors.

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/lib/Kconfig.ubsan#L20

As I understand, CONFIG_UBSAN_TRAP is needed to enable
CONFIG_UBSAN_LOCAL_BOUNDS, but the issue mentions CONFIG_UBSAN_BOUNDS.

[Bug 1942684] Re: Kernel 5.14.X / 5.13.14 fails to boot

NVIDIA driver version 470.74 fixes my usb-c displayport issues.

But I still think leaving the CONFIG_UBSAN_TRAP flag in the build is
concerning (at least, based on the documentation for the flag). It's
probably okay for testing

[Bug 1939966] Re: [Asus TUF Gaming FA506IV] Random system stops

2021-09-26 Thread Kuroš Taheri-Golværzi
Alrighty, so, after having adjusted the grub configuration, this time
around, it lasted about 16½ hours before coming to a freeze. Plus,
actually, this time, it didn't outright blackscreen. What happened was:
it froze and the audio began looping. I let the audio loop for a while
in the hopes that the computer would have enough time to write the
errors to the log. Hopefully, this has some answers.

[Bug 1945121] [NEW] Ubuntu auto-suspends when I unplug my laptop after not having used it for a few minutes.

2021-09-26 Thread Alex B
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

I have my power settings so that Ubuntu will never auto-suspend if
plugged in, but will do so after 20 minutes if on battery power.

If I leave it plugged in but untouched for 20 minutes, and then unplug
it (to move it to another room when I come back to it), then it suspends
on the way there.

It would seem more intuitive that unplugging/plugging in would be
considered interaction, and would reset the delay. The expected
behavior, in that case, would be that it gets unplugged, stays on, and
then suspends after 20 minutes if there is no further interaction.

I know any official fix would probably take a while, if one is even
considered. Is there any workaround?

[Bug 1939966] Re: [Asus TUF Gaming FA506IV] Random system stops

2021-09-26 Thread Kuroš Taheri-Golværzi
So, out of pure frustration, I wondered if maybe it was the particular
SSD slot, so I decided to simply switch my SSDs across the slots on my
motherboard (because the Kubuntu installation never crashed). Suddenly,
now, that one was crashing, and the Xubuntu installation worked fine
(for a while). so I thought it was the SSD slot. Then, the "good" slot
started crashing randomly, too.

I started looking around for my specific computer, and it turns out that
the "soft lockup" is from a misconfiguration in the grub setup. I
thought to myself, "I haven't touched my grub. The only time I ever did
anything was the `sudo apt dist-upgrade` about three weeks ago." And
then it hit me: the crashes started about a day or two after I did a
dist-upgrade. So I started looking around, and I found this:

https://github.com/jfinancial/linux/blob/main/AMD_Linux_Build.md

and subsequently this:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1234299/amd-
ryzen-5-3600-ubuntu-20-04-problems/1241636#1241636

so I went into /etc/default/grub and changed the line to:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pci=assign-busses apicmaintimer
idle=poll reboot=cold,hard"

and did a `sudo update-grub`. So far, my computer has an uptime of
around 13 hours, so this is looking promising. Also, I am never, ever,
ever updating my kernel ever again, ever. Every time I do, something
absolutely vitally, crucially important breaks. This is especially true
about Arch and all Arch-based distros (which I'll never use again).

I'll try leaving my computer turned on for a week and see if changing
that grub line helps. Here's to hoping.

[Bug 1154049] Re: Crashes with GLib-GIO-CRITICAL. UnknownMethod: Method "DescribeAll"

2021-09-26 Thread linas
Similar issue for "Eye of Mate" in Debian Buster. Message is:

GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method
"DescribeAll" with signature "" on interface "org.gtk.Actions" doesn't
exist

Running eom as root works fine. I'm guessing that either there is some
config file that root can read, but user cannot, or that there's some
daemon that cached bad values.

BTW, searches show that people have been getting this error for almost a
decade on all sorts of different apps: for example on gedit which some
users use for git commits ... there are stack-exchange questions on this
one.

Hello Daniel!

Sorry for the late reply. The requested log is attached.

The german part means (as you would have guessed): The argument is
invalid.

That's the error that the gnome-shell process throws.

Thanks for investigating.

[Bug 1945111] [NEW] Switching proprietary drivers on a not up-to-date system breaks it badly

2021-09-26 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

When a system is not fully up to date, mainly when there's a kernel
update available, software-properties-gtk still allows to switch
drivers, for example switching between nvidia drivers.

Doing so will cause it to update the kernel, but not do a full upgrade.
After the operation software-properties-gtk will suggest to reboot the
machine and most likely cause the user to just do so.

The problem with that is that linux-modules-extras will not be installed
now and after the reboot the user is left with a broken system: Non-
functioning graphics (well, llvmpipe still does if lucky) and what's
even worse, no network drivers and depending on the machine maybe even
without input device support. This will cause the user to require a
second machine and a USB stick (and quite some knowledge) to recover the
system.

I've ran into this a couple of times now, seems reproducible. It is
quite tricky to get out of this which IMO makes this a somewhat critical
bug.

[Bug 1945112] [NEW] AirPod volume is too low - stack exchange fix works

2021-09-26 Thread Michael De La Rue
Public bug reported:

see https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/437468/bluetooth-headset-
volume-too-low-only-in-arch

==Reproducer==

1) install Ubuntu 20.4
2) pair with a set of Apple AirPods
3) try to listen to some video
4) put volume up to maximum and repeat 3)
5) turn on volume boost and repeat 4)

==Actual result==

at any stage 3, 4 or 5 the audio from the AirPods is extremely quiet,
almost too low to hear (though after 5 it becomes audible in a quiet
environment)

==Expected result===

It should be possible to hear the sound through the AirPods by default.

==Comment==

The following instructions from the stack exchange answer fix the
problem

Edit

/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service

and change

ExecStart=/usr/lib/bluetooth/bluetoothd

to

ExecStart=/usr/lib/bluetooth/bluetoothd --noplugin=avrcp

BTW, I'm using this website to check if works or crashes:
https://bitmovin.com/demos/drm. it's faster than log in to a streaming
service like Netflix to do a test.

[Bug 1945100] Re: Widevine violates the sandbox and crashes

2021-09-26 Thread Marcos Alano
To disable the sandbox I use procedure detailed by Mozilla, set the
environment variable MOZ_DISABLE_GMP_SANDBOX with value equals to 1.

** Description changed:

- I just updated for Impish Indri beta release but Widevine is always crashing.
With I disable the GMP sandbox it works fine.

[Bug 1944468] Re: Electron applications all crash upon launch

2021-09-26 Thread Marcos Alano
@mwhudson Without your glibc the Electron apps I tested, 1Password and
MS Teams, open up a blank screen. When I install your glibc than works
as expected. About the Widevine I will look for another bug report or
create one. With or without your glibc the Widevine crashes. The only
way to avoid it is to execute Firefox from terminal so it gets the
environment variable to stop using the sandbox.

[Bug 1945093] Re: apt update command output gives gapes in row numbering

2021-09-26 Thread David Kalnischkies
> Ign:3 https://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu focal/mongodb-org/4.4
InRelease

triggers the fallback to download the files Release & Release.gpg, but
as the Release file (5) is a Hit apt skips the attempt to acquire
Release.gpg (8) and continues on with the reverify step which doesn't
emit a message.

If we like really wanted to fix that we probably could special case this
situation and trick the progress reporting into showing a hit for
Release.gpg, too, but you are the first person to notice in … a lot of
years and the proper fix is for this repository to have an InRelease
file.

I would have set it to "wont-fix", but I am apparently not allowed to do
that on launchpad, so "opinion" it is, which feels wrong as I agree its
unfortunate, I just don't think it is worth it to invest precious
resources to fix it at this point. In an ideal world we would instead
drop the fallback which would also fix that issue… (but also break that
repository).

[Bug 1945097] [NEW] getent does not resolve host in .local while avahi does

2021-09-26 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1)Set up a shared printer.
2) On a computer in the same local network the printer is seen by cups as a
dnssd printer.
3) After setting up the printer as a dnssd printer cups cannot print since it
cannot locate the printer.

avahi -a -r and avahi-resolve-host-name are able to resolve the host with the
printer.
getent cannot resolve it and cups fails.

As suggested in
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/avahi-isnt-being-used-to-resolve-local-domain-names/4911/8
the issue is related to mdns4_minimal in /etc/nsswitch.conf and the absence of
/etc/mdns.allow
