[Bug 1946987] Re: Nvidia 340 Xorg driver is installed but not loaded
Maybe I was misled by XorgLog.txt because "FBDEV" is actually the correct driver to try if /dev/dri/card0 is missing (as it is when the Nvidia kernel driver is loaded). So this might just be the *absence* of a valid config file telling Xorg to load the nvidia driver. Try using the 'nvidia-xconfig' command to create one. ** Tags added: nvidia -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1946987 Title: Nvidia 340 Xorg driver is installed but not loaded To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-340/+bug/1946987/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1947185] Re: GNOME on Wayland does not initially display conky output
I do not expect the error is in conky: 1. The error does not appear, when I login with xorg. The error did not appear in 21.04. 2. The conky window is of course somewhat outside of the standard application windows; It has no windows boundaries, the background of the window is transparent and it is in the bottom right corner. 3. The following bypass in the login script worked; #!/bin/bash sleep 2 conky -d sleep 1 killall conky sleep 1 conky -d The first time the windows is not displayed but conky is started, the second time conky is started and the display is perfect. For conky there is no difference between both starts, for wayland there is probably a difference. The sleep time has no influence, since I also tried the first one with 8 seconds and that did not help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1947185 Title: GNOME on Wayland does not initially display conky output To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/conky/+bug/1947185/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1946149] Re: Bionic/linux-aws Boot failure downgrading from Bionic/linux-aws-5.4 on r5.metal
As I was bisecting the commits, I was attempting to take advantage of parallelism. While my test kernel was building I would deploy a clean AWS r5.metal instance. I started seeing test kernels boot that I wouldn't expect to boot. So I decided as a sanity test, I would deploy an r5.metal instance, let it sit idle for 20 minutes and then install the known problematic 4.15.0-1113-aws kernel. Sure enough it booted fine. Tried the same thing again with letting it sit idle 20 mins and it worked again. So this does appear to be a race condition. I think this also explains some of the erratic test results I've seen while looking at this bug. Fortunately the console output gave us some definitive proof as to where the problem was occurring. With that being said, it appears I have found the offending commits. PCI/MSI: Enforce that MSI-X table entry is masked for update PCI/MSI: Enforce MSI[X] entry updates to be visible https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux- aws/+git/bionic/commit/?id=27571f5ea1dd074924b41a455c50dc2278e8c2b7 https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux- aws/+git/bionic/commit/?id=2478f358c2b35fea04e005447ce99ad8dc53fd5d More specifically the hang is introduced by 'PCI/MSI: Enforce that MSI-X table entry is masked for update', but it isn't a clean revert without reverting the other commit. So for a quick test confirmation I reverted both. I have not had a chance to determine why these commits are causing the problem, but with these reverted in a test build on top of 4.15.0-1113-aws, I can migrate from 5.4 to 4.15 as soon as the instance is available. I've done at least 6 attempts now and all have passed and doing the same steps without the reverts all have hung(unless I wait 20 mins). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1946149 Title: Bionic/linux-aws Boot failure downgrading from Bionic/linux-aws-5.4 on r5.metal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+bug/1946149/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1947306] [NEW] Touch Pad Cursor Speed Degreases Dramatically at Desired Resolution
Public bug reported: Although I'm able set resolution to 1920x1080, upon doing so, the touchpad on my Logitech K400 Wireless keyboard/touchpad becomes so slow and laggy, that I cannot enjoy the better looking resolution. I've tried adjusting the touchpad speed to its max setting in GNOME3's settings panel, but this has an almost unnoticeable influence. When I set resolution to 1440x900, the same touchpad is very fast and responsive. The bug is that nothing in the touchpad settings addresses this issue: I either have to endure less than optimal resolution, or endure less than optimal touchpad sensitivity. I'm currently installing this: sudo apt install kde-plasma-desktop I'll report back soon as to notify whether or not this allows me to have decent touchpad sensitivity at a 1920x1080 resolution. [Bug 1947257] [NEW] Partial profile loss on upgrade from 21.04 to 21.10
Public bug reported: In the upgrade from 21.04 to 21.10 I noticed it had updated firefox. [Bug 1946578] Re: Placeholder for CVE-2021-41133
Please find attached the debdiff for Ubuntu 21.10 impish. I have performed some testing in a VM and built in a PPA. Let me know if anything has been done incorrectly. ** Attachment added: "Impish CVE debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flatpak/+bug/1946578/+attachment/5533002/+files/impish_flatpak_1.10.2-3_to_1.10.2-3ubuntu0.1.debdiff.gz ** Summary changed: - Placeholder for CVE-2021-41133 + Update for CVE-2021-41133 ** Description changed: - *** Placeholder until regressions are fixed upstream *** - [Links] https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/security/advisories/GHSA-67h7-w3jq-vh4q https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=995935 https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2021-41133 - [Impact] Versions in Ubuntu right now: Impish: 1.10.2-3 Hirsute: 1.10.2-1ubuntu1 Focal: 1.6.5-0ubuntu0.3 Bionic: 1.0.9-0ubuntu0.3 Affected versions: - 1.11.x, 1.10.x <= 1.10.3, all <= 1.8.2 + 1.11.x, 1.10.x <= 1.10.3, all <= 1.8.2 Patched versions: - 1.10.5, 1.12.1, also expected in 1.8.2 - + 1.10.5, 1.12.1, also expected in 1.8.2 [Test Case] Unknown - [Regression Potential] Flatpak has a test suite, which is run on build across all relevant architectures and passes. There is also a manual test plan https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlan/flatpak . Flatpak has autopkgtests enabled http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/f/flatpak . Regression potential is low, and upstream is very responsive to any issues raised. - [Patches] There were 8 initial patches, then some regressions have been found, one has been patched, but a second has a pending pull request (see the github advisory for links). As noted in the debian bug as well there might be further changes to bubblewrap, so guess it makes sense to wait until this has settled. - [Other Information] An anonymous reporter discovered that Flatpak apps with direct access to AF_UNIX sockets such as those used by Wayland, Pipewire or pipewire-pulse can trick portals and other host-OS services into treating the Flatpak app as though it was an ordinary, non-sandboxed host-OS process, by manipulating the VFS using recent mount-related syscalls that are not blocked by Flatpak's denylist seccomp filter, in order to substitute a crafted /.flatpak-info or make that file disappear entirely. Impact Flatpak apps that act as clients for AF_UNIX sockets such as those used by Wayland, Pipewire or pipewire-pulse can escalate the privileges that the corresponding services will believe the Flatpak app has. Mitigation: Note that protocols that operate entirely over the D-Bus session bus (user bus), system bus or accessibility bus are not affected by this. This is due to the use of a proxy process xdg-dbus-proxy, whose VFS cannot be manipulated by the Flatpak app, when interacting with these buses. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1946578 Title: Update for CVE-2021-41133 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flatpak/+bug/1946578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1947206] [NEW] Updates to ib_peer_memory requested by Nvidia
Public bug reported: [Impact] Nvidia notified me via private email that they'd discovered some issues with the ib_peer_memory patch we are carrying in hirsute/impish and sent me a patch intended to resolve them. My knowledge of these changes is limited to what is mentioned in the commit message: - Allow clients to opt out of unmap during invalidation - Fix some bugs in the sequencing of mlx5 MRs - Enable ATS for peer memory [Test Case] ib_write_bw from the perftest package, rebuilt with CUDA support, can be used as a smoke test of this feature. I'll attach a sample test script here. I've verified this test passes with the kernels in the archive, and continues to pass with the provided patch applied. [Fix] Nvidia has emailed me fixes for both trees. They are not currently available in a public tree elsewhere, though I'm told at some point they should end up in a branch here: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/leon/linux-rdma.git/ [What could go wrong] The only known use case for ib_peer_memory are Nvidia GPU users making use of the GPU PeerDirect feature where GPUs can share memory with one another over an Infiniband network. [Bug 1946499] Re: installation of deb-packages with gdebi-gtk shows "dpkg: error: unable to read filedescriptor flags for : Bad file descriptor" in gdebi t
I just uploaded Dani's gdebi fix to Debian unstable. ** Description changed: [Impact] This bug impacts users which: - - Do not have the '/usr/bin/cloud-id' command in their system, + - Do not have the '/usr/bin/cloud-id' command in their system, - Do have the '/var/lib/cloud/data/result.json' file in their system, and - - Have a non-standart (by cloud-init definitions) content in the '/var/lib/cloud/data/result.json' file. + - Have a non-standard (by cloud-init definitions) content in the '/var/lib/cloud/data/result.json' file. This is an unusual situation, given that the presence of the 'result.json' file with the absence of the 'cloud-id' command is observed on official Trusty images, but from Xenial onwards 'cloud-id' should be there. Even in the case where the command is not there, the file generated by cloud-init will have the required information. Since we are doing the SRU process for Xenial onwards, the solution for those problems is to rely only on cloud-id when trying to determine the cloud type, and assuming not on cloud when the command is not present or if it fails. https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-advantage-client/commit/f6fbcee792cf42cc67e3ced02815b7d552dee19f [Test Case] To reproduce: With ubuntu-advantage-tools 27.2 installed, in an Ubuntu machine: - - Make sure cloud-id is not there: - $ sudo mv /usr/bin/cloud-id /usr/bin/cloud-id.old - - Make sure to have the result.json file with non-standart (empty, for instance) content: - $ sudo mv /var/lib/cloud/data/result.json /var/lib/cloud/data/result.json.old (if the file exists) - $ sudo touch /var/lib/cloud/data/result.json + - Make sure cloud-id is not there: + $ sudo mv /usr/bin/cloud-id /usr/bin/cloud-id.old + - Make sure to have the result.json file with non-standard (empty, for instance) content: + $ sudo mv /var/lib/cloud/data/result.json /var/lib/cloud/data/result.json.old (if the file exists) + $ sudo touch /var/lib/cloud/data/result.json - Try to attach a token using "ua attach" - Verify that it fails To verify the fix: Repeat the above process using ubuntu-advantage tools 27.3, and verify that the attach operation succeeds. - [Regression Potential] When running on a non-cloud system, this fix brings no impact, as we expect cloud-id to be absent and we are not running on cloud. When running on a specific cloud, this fix brings the scenario where we should detect the cloud and are unable to, due to problems with cloud- init. This is minor though, given that if cloud-init didn't run properly, the instance has more problems than this one. Besides that, considering no-cloud when not in aws/azure/gcp has no impact on UA at all, and those three providers have images with cloud-id working properly. No official Ubuntu image should be affected by this change. - [Discussion] As stated above, this is an unusual situation, which led to an improvement to the cloud detection in UA. - [Original Description] sudo ua status Unexpected error(s) occurred. Having just gotten bitten by this: At present, fresh installs of Ubuntu 21.10 have the 2.0.3 ZFS kernel module, and as such get impacted by this bug. This means that out of the box installs of Ubuntu 21.10 with ZFS essentially don't work at present because of this - someone might want to look into this! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1906476 Title: PANIC at zfs_znode.c:335:zfs_znode_sa_init() // VERIFY(0 == sa_handle_get_from_db(zfsvfs->z_os, db, zp, SA_HDL_SHARED, &zp->z_sa_hdl)) failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/zfs/+bug/1906476/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1273764] Re: Grub ignores TIMEOUT options on /etc/default/grub
Im having the opposite sort of problem. On Ubuntu 20.04 with grub2 2.04 - I want the menu to display but only for GRUB_TIMEOUT seconds. No matter what settings I use, it always displays indefinitely and never counts down. If I set GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE="countdown", it will do the countdown and never shows the menu as expected, but we want the menu AND the menu timeout countdown. Setting GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT makes no difference. My system does boot from an LVM RAID boot partition, but I have several other identical systems configured exactly the same way that do not have this problem. It seems rather random. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273764 Title: Grub ignores TIMEOUT options on /etc/default/grub To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1273764/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1943564] Re: [SRU] Backport xrt 202020.2.8.743-0ubuntu1 to focal
