That said, one plausible workaround for this would be:

# apt purge apache2*

Let me know what you think and if that works for you?

[Bug 1947204] Re: rpackage apache2 2.4.46-4ubuntu1.3 failed to install/upgrade: installed apache2 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-10-18 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

We will need more information in order to proceed with the investigation
of the bug. Based on the logs posted, I could not determine the cause
for the error message.

When I repeat the steps described in the DpkgHistoryLog.log in a Focal
container, namely:

# apt-get install apache2
# apt-get purge apache2
# apt-get autoremove --purge
# apt-get install apache2

Everything works as expected. Bear in mind, I have not modified any
configuration file when running these tests. Therefore, I would like to
ask you to provide:

1) More log files, especifically the Apache2 ones: /var/log/apache2/*,
and "journalctl -u apache2.service".

2) Any custom configuration files for Apache2 that you might have.

Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to
differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I
am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would:
provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you
believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your
system, and then change the bug status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

[Bug 1947506] Re: failed to call "sudo ua attach 'key'" with unexpected error

2021-10-18 Thread Lucas Albuquerque Medeiros de Moura
Hi Florian, thanks for reporting this bug. This is probably happening
because the machine has the cloud-init package installed but it was not
fully run on the machine (which is not a problem per se).

We have addressed this on our next release of ubuntu-advantage-tools
that should be delivered very soon. Until that happens, you can add this
at the end of /etc/ubuntu-advantage/uaclient.conf

settings_overrides:
  cloud_type: ""

And I believe it solve the problem for now. Let me know if that works
for you

[Bug 1947588] [NEW] Infinite Loop in OpenSSL s_server

2021-10-18 Thread Matt Caswell
Public bug reported:

Launching openssl s_server as follows:

$ openssl s_server -nocert -psk 01020304 -dtls1

And using openssl s_client to connect to it like this:

$ openssl s_client -dtls1 -psk 01020304

Results in s_server entering an infinite loop:

Using default temp DH parameters

...and so on...

I have confirmed that upstream OpenSSL does not have this issue in a
default build of 1.1.1j or 1.1.1k. Upstream 1.1.1l has a different bug
with these commands (https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/16707)
and it was while working on the fix for that issue
(https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/16838) that I noticed this
problem in the Ubuntu packages.

[Bug 1947141] Re: monitoring-plugins-standard check_mysql missing

2021-10-18 Thread Paride Legovini
Hello Bernd and thanks for this bug report. Your are right: check_mysql
is missing from Hirsute but present in Focal and Impish. The Hirsute
build log [1] shows the following at the configure stage:

checking for mysql_init in -lmysqlclient... no
checking for mysql_init in -lmariadbclient... no

while for the versions in Focal and Impish we have:

checking for mysql_init in -lmysqlclient... yes

Interestingly if src:monitoring-plugins is rebuilt today in an up-to-
date Hirsute chroot, then mysql_init is found and check_mysql is built
and installed. What changed is the version of the libmysqlclient-dev
build-dep (or, better, of src:mysql-8.0). The buggy version of the
package has been built against version 8.0.23-1, which interestingly
never left hirsute-proposed. Hirsute at the moment ships version
8.0.26-0ubuntu0.21.04.3.

I believe we simply need a no-change rebuild to fix this.

[Bug 1863801] Re: [snap] After deleting the cache, chromium crashes when file picker is called to upload files or folders

I have encountered a similar issue on downgrade of snap package and workaround
does work.
Previously had chromium 94 installed. Due to issues with top-bar rendering
downgraded chromium to version 93. Got issues with any attempt to
upload/download file. Running:

rm ~/snap/chromium/current/.last_revision

fixed the issue

[Bug 1947587] [NEW] Context (right click) menu does not appear on dual-monitor setup when dock is active on all screens

2021-10-18 Thread Michael K
Public bug reported:

I have a dual monitor setup, primary monitor on the left, secondary
monitor on the right, exactly lined up, on Wayland, Intel graphics
drivers, Ubuntu 21.10 (but issue was already present in 21.04)

I have Ubuntu Dock enabled on all monitors, on the left side of the
screen (which is default) and symbol size 28 (but this size does not
seem to matter).

Independent from the running program, when I try to bring up the context
(right click) menu close to the right side of the left screen, the
context menu will not show up.

I disabled the "dock on all monitors" and _then_ the context menu will
show up, but weirdly on the right monitor stuck to the left side of the
screen - even if the context menu gladly will right-align when not too
close to the border of the screen.

Now the dock and the weird context menu behaviour seem to overlap
somehow and the context menu will not show up at all.

Sounds similar to this:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1783

and while searching I found this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1930567
which sounds very similar or might be even the same.

I will try in X11 and report if the issue is there as well.

[Bug 1945061] Re: gdm3 crashed with SIGSEGV in ensure_display_for_seat()

2021-10-18 Thread Xosé
I log in as the primary user. Then, I try to switch users: I get to the
login screen, type in the password, the screen goes black and then comes
back to the login screen. I see the input field and the pointer, but the
computer is frozen - I can't access a console.

If I reboot, I can log in to a different user, but if then I try to log
in to the primary user, the same thing happens.

This only happens when switching between users. If I log out of the
current user (end session) I can sign into the second account without
any problem.

[Bug 1947165] Re: nmap crashes when scanning /24 subnet

2021-10-18 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to file the bug and help in making Ubuntu
Server better.

What you report has been reported upstream already via
https://github.com/nmap/nmap/issues/1764. As per the comments, it is
fixed via
https://github.com/nmap/nmap/commit/33f421fd6e68fcb8ed50071661d9704717c81b2b.

The Ubuntu nmap package is in sync with the Debian package
(https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/nmap). Can you perhaps open a bug there?
So that once the bug is fixed there, it'll automatically be synced here
as well? Thanks in advance! \o/

[Bug 1947584] [NEW] package libc6-dev 2.34-0ubuntu3: missing '__libc_csu_fini', '__libc_csu_init' symbols

2021-10-18 Thread Ihor Ivanov
Public bug reported:

The following error occurs when compilation of host tools for compiling
ARM kernel is done:

prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/host/x86_64-linux-glibc2.17-4.8/bin/x86_64-linux-gcc
-Wp,-MD,scripts/basic/.fixdep.d -Iscripts/basic  -Ikernel/msm-4.14/include/uapi
 -I/usr/include  -I/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu -L/usr/lib
-L/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -o scripts/basic/fixdep
kernel/msm-4.14/scripts/basic/fixdep.c
prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/host/x86_64-linux-glibc2.17-4.8/bin/../sysroot/usr/lib/crt1.o(.text+0x12):
 error: undefined reference to '__libc_csu_fini'
prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/host/x86_64-linux-glibc2.17-4.8/bin/../sysroot/usr/lib/crt1.o(.text+0x19):
 error: undefined reference to '__libc_csu_init'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

I checked that neither libc.a nor libc_nonshared.a contains these
symbols:

$ objdump -t /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.a | grep csu_init
$ objdump -t /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc_nonshared.a | grep csu_init

Also I checked that the binaries from previous version contain these
symbols:

libc2.33$ objdump -t usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.a | grep csu_init
 g F .text  0094 __libc_csu_init
libc2.33$ objdump -t usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc_nonshared.a | grep csu_init
 g F .text  0065 __libc_csu_init

Is it intended that these symbols is removed in 2.34 version of
libc6-dev package?

[Bug 1677684] Re: /usr/bin/corosync-blackbox: 34: /usr/bin/corosync-blackbox: qb-blackbox: not found

2021-10-18 Thread Miriam España Acebal
Not intentional at all... It seems derived from the not existence of
that Breaks since Focal and removed when applied the same fix.

Searching where the Breaks was added (as it isn't present in Debian's
versions), I found it added due to LP #1740892 for Xenial
(2.3.5-3*),Artful and Bionic (same debian version for both, 2.4.2-3*),
i.e :

corosync (2.4.2-3ubuntu1) bionic; urgency=medium

  * Properly restart corosync and pacemaker together (LP: #1740892)
- d/rules: pass --restart-after-upgrade to dh_installinit
- d/control: indicate this version breaks all older pacemaker, to
  force an upgrade of pacemaker.
- d/corosync.postinst: if flagged to do so by pacemaker, start
  pacemaker on upgrade.
  + This can be dropped after bionic releases as long as the other
changes are maintained.

Note disabling clone3 syscall in glibc breaks all containers (using
docker) running on Ubuntu that are linked against glibc that does
support the syscall.

One example is opensuse/tumbleweed and one can see the failure e.g. at GitHub
Actions:

Can you please enable clone3 any time soon?

[Bug 1947579] [NEW] GNOME Shell integration doesn't work with snap version of Firefox

2021-10-18 Thread David D Lowe
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 21.10, the default installation has been switched from the
version provided by APT, to the version provided by snap. Users that
upgrade from Ubuntu 21.04 to 21.10 will be migrated to the snap version
of Firefox.

In the snap version of Firefox, it is impossible to install extensions
from https://extensions.gnome.org . This error message is displayed:

connector is not detected. Refer documentation for instructions about
installing connector.

[Bug 1946368] Re: HDMI output freezes under current/proposed impish kernels

2021-10-18 Thread fossfreedom
@juergh - apologies - I've diagnosed my boot freeze issue - it was a
power supply issue. Changing to a brand new supply makes the boot work.
KMS must have just tipped the voltage available.

The good news is that installing the 6 debs from the test kernel no
longer causes freezes. So congrats on resolving this.

The last working kernel version was indeed the kind of information the
developers were looking for. Excellent that you were able to supply that

[Bug 1944082] Re: initramfs-tools: zstd uses too much memory in mkinitramfs

2021-10-18 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
In general we optimize for bootspeed, at the expense of generation time.
It is often the case that we can complete the boot on systems smaller
than required to recreate files for such boot. I.e. impossible to
install/upgrade packages.

Are you experiencing failure to create initrd, where previously you
could? a 512MB instance should still be able to create zstd compressed
initrd and boot.

[Bug 1941649] Re: switch to zstd by default breaks booting focal LTS kernel

2021-10-18 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
partial upgrades are not supported, and during upgrades we generally do
not recreate initrds for old kernels.

Meaning one should have at least .old kernel+initrd pair bootable.

It is more of linux bug maybe that v5.4 does not support zstd compressed
initrd?

I see. OTOH I suppose we want the UI to work as expected, not only
prevent the crash.

So without changing the patch, it looks to me as if letting g-c-c depend
on gedit-common is a reasonable step. With your blessing I could commit
that change.

resolved by retry.

Also, the build in impish-proposed passed for version
"0.9.9.8+ds-1ubuntu1":
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glm/0.9.9.8+ds-1ubuntu1/+build/22279829

So I'll be attaching the build log and marking it verification-done.

Yes, but you can uninstall gedit afterwards. Or:

sudo apt install --no-install-recommends gedit-common

It's not for the wallpaper stuff, but for the Dock stuff below that.

Can't tell how difficult it would be to change it to not use gedit's
schema.

[Bug 1946368] Re: HDMI output freezes under current/proposed impish kernels

2021-10-18 Thread andrum99
Just noticed that with the kernel from
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~juergh/lp1946368/ my Pi 4B is no longer using
wayland - Xorg is used instead. Not sure if this is intentional. Ideally
wayland would be used for desktop compositing, since there is
considerable screen tearing with Xorg.

[Bug 1946987] Re: Nvidia 340 Xorg driver is installed but not loaded

2021-10-18 Thread Jarno Suni
What does the "Report problem..." button in the dialog do, then if I
have to use command line to report the crash files?

I see "sudo nvidia-xconfig" generates some basic /etc/X11/xorg.conf
file.

Regardless, I noted the following:

If I log out from the Xfce session back to the LightDM greeter the HDMI
output is used, too. And if I thereafter log in back to my session, the
HDMI output works there, too. I wonder why it does not work right after
the first login after boot?

2021-10-18 Thread Piotr Mitana
Actually gedit-common triggers gedit install as well:

```
The following additional packages will be installed:
  gedit gir1.2-gtksource-4 gir1.2-peas-1.0 libgtksourceview-4-0
libgtksourceview-4-common libpeas-1.0-0 libpeas-common python3-gi-cairo
Still, isn't it a bit weird, that changing the wallpaper requires a
particular text editor to be installed? Would it be too complicated to
make the gnome-control-center independent of the gedit's schema?
[Bug 1947568] [NEW] cannot promote clone: "not a cloned filesystem"
2021-10-18 Thread James Dingwall
Public bug reported:
I have a zvol containing a Windows image for a virtual machine.  After
restarting the system a node under /dev/zvol/... was not created for the
virtual disk and no amount of prompting by `udevadm trigger` helped.
Instead a create a snapshot from the most recent hourly backup:
# zfs clone rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda@hourly07
rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda-new
# zfs promote rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda-new
cannot promote 'rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda-new': not a cloned filesystem
(didn't work here but carried on assuming something can be sorted later)
# zfs rename rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda-old
# zfs rename rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda-new rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda
Entries in /dev appeared and I could start the virtual machine.  Trying
to promote the clone gives 'not a cloned filesystem' message.  I later
renamed the old zvol and tried to cleanup:
# zfs rename rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda-old rpool/to-be-deleted
#  zfs destroy rpool/to-be-deleted@hourly07
cannot destroy 'rpool/to-be-deleted@hourly07': snapshot has dependent clones
use '-R' to destroy the following datasets:
rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda@hourly09
rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda@hourly10
rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda
# zfs promote rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda
cannot promote 'rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda': not a cloned filesystem
# zfs get origin rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda
NAMEPROPERTY  VALUE SOURCE
rpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda  originrpool/to-be-deleted@hourly07  -
# zfs get clones rpool/to-be-deleted@hourly07
NAME  PROPERTY  VALUE   SOURCE
rpool/to-be-deleted@hourly07  clonesrpool/vm/windows/windows10/hda  -
The dependency between seems to be as expected.  This small test fails
in the same way:
# zfs create -V1G rpool/vm/test
# zfs snapshot rpool/vm/test@test2
# zfs clone rpool/vm/test@test2 rpool/vm/test3
# zfs promote rpool/vm/test3
cannot promote 'rpool/vm/test3': not a cloned filesystem
# zfs get origin rpool/vm/test3
NAMEPROPERTY  VALUESOURCE
rpool/vm/test3  originrpool/vm/test@test2  -
# zfs get clones rpool/vm/test@test2
NAME PROPERTY  VALUE   SOURCE
[Bug 1947558] Re: rfkill fails to turn on wifi card on Dell Latitude 5490
2021-10-18 Thread Gilbert Fernandes
Note : it might be a problem in the ilwifi driver. I am not sure.
Perhaps rf-kill does the block properly on suspend
But fails to unblock the card because the ilwifi driver does not bring it back
from "hardware lock" to "available" on resume.
So I am not sure of where the problem is, but I tend to think that it's a
ilwifi problem :/
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/backport-iwlwifi-
dkms/+bug/1947561
How can I make sure rfkill does ask properly to the kernel/module to
unlock the hardware wifi card, and confirm this is a ilwifi problem ?
[Bug 1947561] [NEW] wifi card goes into hardware disable on resume on Dell Latitude 5490
2021-10-18 Thread Gilbert Fernandes
Public bug reported:
Dell Latitude 5490
DMI: Dell Inc. Latitude 5490/0FDHF4, BIOS 1.18.0 09/10/2021
When machine goes into sleep, rfkill turns off the wifi card
Then machine goes to sleep.
When resumed, the wifi no longer works, Gnome reports "no wifi card"
Trying to use rfkill to bring the card back does not work
Trying to use the button on keyboard to turn off then on the wifi card
does not work either
Rebooting does not fix the issue : card is no longer working and set to
"hardware disabled"
The only solution is to turn OFF the machine, then ON again.
I have opened a bug report on rf-kill there :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/1947558
But the more I look into it the more it seems that it could be a problem in the
ilwifi module.
The card is turned off physically properly by rf-kill but trying to turn it
back on fails
So it seems that the ilwifi is unabled to bring the wifi card out of the
hardware lock/off
for this laptop model on Linux.
[Bug 1947558] [NEW] rfkill fails to turn on wifi card on Dell Latitude 5490
2021-10-18 Thread Gilbert Fernandes
Public bug reported:
Laptop is a Dell Latitude 5490
Was using Windows 10 and installed Ubuntu 20.04
All updates are installed, all firmwares are up to date.
Machine was crashing on sleep : would go into sleep, then waking the
machine up would do a full system restart. Edited the file
/etc/systemd/sleep.conf to have a line "SuspendState=mem"
The machine now suspends and wakes properly. But... Once the machine
comes back from sleep, the wifi card is dead. Rebooting does not fix the
issue, only a full shutdown then restart brings the wifi card back.
When doing a tail -f on the /var/log/syslog I can see that rfkill is
used to bring the Wifi card back.
Here is what happens when laptop goes into sleep :
[Bug 1947552] [NEW] Idle tcp connections
2021-10-18 Thread Johan Charpentier
Public bug reported:
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04
unbound/focal,focal-updates,focal-security,now 1.9.4-2ubuntu1.2 amd64
[installed]
Hello,
We have an issue with unbound package.
In some case of usage we have a certain number of idle tcp-sessions wich blocks
any new tcp sessions to this server.
1. One of our users initiate a wild number of tcp sessions and stops 30 min
later.
2. Thoses sessions max out the `thread0.tcpusage` accordingly to our setting
`incoming-num-tcp:`
3. No more TCP cnx are possible. UDP still responding
4. We log the established tcp sessions with an `lsof -i :53`
5. *12 hours later* the *same* TCP sessions are still ESTABLISHED (same client
ports same host)
6. A tcpdump on this interface show no tcp packet at all for more than 15min
... but `net.ipv4.tcp_keepalive_time = 7200` or tcp-idle-timeout (actually 30
sec) should have kicked.
7. Still no more TCP cnx are possible
A restart of this service resolves the bug.
This bug is hard to reproduce and we didn't find the client/usage which works
all times nor we have more information on our client real
infra/clients/libraries. But in the right conditions, it can append a lot.
But we think we are not the only one experiencing this find of bug :
This is the same as 2 bugs reported on the unbound mailing list :
 * https://lists.nlnetlabs.nl/pipermail/unbound-users/2019-August/006361.html
 * https://lists.nlnetlabs.nl/pipermail/unbound-users/2019-October/006487.html
And this seems to be fixed by this MR on the next version of unbound :
On Unbound 1.9.6 Changelog (
https://www.nlnetlabs.nl/projects/unbound/download/#unbound-1-9-6 ) :
```
Merge pull request #122 from he32: In tcp_callback_writer(), don't disable
time-out when changing to read.
```
Refering to : https://github.com/NLnetLabs/unbound/pull/122
This MR/Fix is quite simple, so I'm asking if we can cherry pick this
fix on this version of unbound to avoid a potential DoS on this service
and fix that issue
Thanks in advance :)
