[Bug 1939174] Re: GRUB2 can't boot Linux on HP Dragonfly G2
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1939988 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1939988 Okay wait a minute, it IS possible to install Ubuntu by writing the ISO to the bootable key with dd from a machine running Linux. I used dd like so: `sudo dd bs=4M if=/home/noctua/Downloads/ubuntu-21.10-desktop- amd64.iso of=/dev/sdb conv=fdatasync status=progress` and I was amazed that Ubuntu actually booted. It took some time to boot, but I was able to use the installer successfully and I can confirm Ubuntu 21.10 works fine on the Elite Dragonfly G2 (disable PSR using i915.enable_psr=0 in the GRUB config kernel boot parameters after installation to eliminate screen tear and lag). Definitely try doing that. It seems like the HP system firmware has a flaw with being unable to boot certain things. Given that the Fedora USB creator writes the raw ISO to the key, this might be why a Fedora USB key works. I still think this is a flaw that needs to be fixed, but at least there is a workaround. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1939174 Title: GRUB2 can't boot Linux on HP Dragonfly G2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-unsigned/+bug/1939174/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1939988 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1939988 This issue affects me as well on the HP Elite Dragonfly G2. It's really awful, I can't even start the boot process on a Ubuntu live installer. It doesn't seem to matter how I format the USB drive either. I have Fedora 34 installed but I cannot boot Ubuntu 20.04, 20.10, 21.04, or 21.10 at all. When selecting an entry with GRUB on a Ubuntu live key, I just get a black screen with a blinking white cursor at the top. What could be the problem? I regret buying this machine immensely, it has issues already with charging and wifi. It seems that the firmware won't allow us to boot Ubuntu or Debian or really any non-Fedora/RHEL distribution. On Parted Magic, I get an "out of memory" error immediately and cannot boot the image. I think this is also what is happening with the Ubuntu live image. Is the firmware reporting available memory incorrectly when attempting to boot or blocking initramfs over a certain size? Is it possible to fix this? Honestly I'm so upset at HP for introducing firmware bugs like this. No one in their right mind would design system firmware like this to prevent the booting of Linux.

[Bug 1945203] Re: Wayland: Useage of touchscreen on dock freezes the dock
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Package changed: mutter (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945203 Title: Wayland: Useage of touchscreen on dock freezes the dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1945203/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1942684] Re: Kernel 5.14.X / 5.13.14 fails to boot
On another test, using vanilla Ubuntu mainline 5.14.14 on a guest VBOX VM runs ok for about half a day then crashes to black screen. This has happened 4x! Replacing the vanilla Ubuntu mainline 5.14.14 with a custom build of 5.14.14 using point 1 above (see comment 43) has so far worked for 3 days and is still working. Having that configuration is dangerous in production settings! I can't stress it enough! If you use Ubuntu Mainline kernels in production settings, then... DO NOT USE UBUNTU MAINLINE 5.14.X KERNELS. [Bug 1948726] [NEW] When Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3 wakes up HDMI display is dim
Public bug reported: My computer is an ASUS A88XM-A with AMD A8-7600 Radeon R7 APU with Samsung SyncMaster TA350 TV/monitor connected via HDMI. Running Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3. When the computer goes to sleep and tries to wake, the display is very dim. I can just see enough to shutdown. When shutting down, the brightness is normal. When I reboot, the computer brightness is normal. Apparently, something is wrong with the wake-up driver code. [Bug 1948715] Re: Installed 21.10 from upgrade button on software update, unknown why (no power loss, etc), but RYGEN is corrupt and I cannot reinstall it, remove it, or remove its library files as su
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1948715/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1948598] Re: Can't unlock multiple devices in initramfs
** Description changed: - [Impact] + [Impact] clevis can be used to automatically unlock LUKS-encrypted devices during boot by asking a remote server for the key (sort of). It does so by monitoring for the processes that send up the interactive prompts "Please unlock disk xxx:" and then sends a key to that process through a fifo that the process has opened. The bug that existed in clevis versions prior to version 17 forgot to clear a saved PID-variable (used to store the PID of the process that creates the prompt for the user), so when the PID of the first process has been found it won't look for more processes of this type. This means it can only unlock one device. If you have for example some sort of RAID root filesystem with multiple disks (or a ZFS mirror as me) then clevis does not work at all. [Test Plan] - Setup a tang server on a different host: # sudo apt install tang # sudo systemctl enable tangd.socket --now # reboot - Setup two LUKS-disks that shall be decrypted during early boot (append option initramfs to them in /etc/crypttab) - Setup clevis: # sudo apt install clevis # sudo apt install clevis-luks # sudo apt install clevis-initramfs - Bind the encrypted disks to the tang server: # sudo clevis luks bind -d /dev/ tang '{"url": "http://"}' # sudo clevis luks bind -d /dev/ tang '{"url": "http://"}' - Regenerate initramfs # sudo update-initramfs -u -k 'all' - Reboot # reboot After the reboot you will be stuck at "Please unlock disk xxx:" until you enter the passphrase manually. If you perform all the steps using only one disk it will work. [Where problems could occur] If something is wrong with the patch it will show up when clevis is unlocking a LUKS-encrypted disk during initramfs. [Bug 1948715] [NEW] Installed 21.10 from upgrade button on software update, unknown why (no power loss, etc), but RYGEN is corrupt and I cannot reinstall it, remove it, or remove its library files as
Public bug reported: I installed 21.10 from the upgrade button on software update, unknown why (no power loss, etc), but RYGEN is corrupt and I cannot reinstall it, remove it, or remove its library files as sudo or su. I get a "too many errors" message and it exits in the terminal. I'm not a newbee, but not an expert either. Yes, I've ventured into root as su - same issues as described above I tried reinstalling 21.10 from a DVD (I do not have a flash drive big enough) and it does not recognize the OS or filesystem on the HDD. Only gives me the option of erasing and starting over... which is not acceptable. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948715 Title: Installed 21.10 from upgrade button on software update, unknown why (no power loss, etc), but RYGEN is corrupt and I cannot reinstall it, remove it, or remove its library files as sudo or su. [Bug 1948713] [NEW] focal: backport patch to allow mk-sbuild within Docker
Public bug reported: Debian bug #968927 is present in the version of debootstrap in focal, which means that mk-sbuild cannot execute successfully within a Docker environment. https://salsa.debian.org/installer- team/debootstrap/-/commit/87cdebbcad6f4e16ba711227cbbbd70039f88752 is the fix for this. It's included in the version of debootstrap in impish+, and we've been using a patched debootstrap (including only this patch on top of focal's debootstrap) for a couple of months without issue. [Impact] Without this patch, using debootstrap via mk-sbuild within a Docker environment produces this error: ln: failed to create symbolic link '/dev/stdin': File exists E: 10mount: E: Failed to open mount file ‘/proc/mounts’: No such file or directory E: focal-amd64-6433640d-7654-4238-b872-e8f1acd4b717: Chroot setup failed: stage=setup-stop This means that Ubuntu users either have to perform their mk-sbuild'ing outside of Docker (which may not be possible in corporate settings), or they have to maintain debootstrap downstream of Ubuntu (which either requires superseding the versions in Ubuntu entirely, or rebasing this patch onto the new version which appears in focal as each new release is opened). [Test Plan] Launch a Docker container (privileged so mk-sbuild can perform overlay mounting) with: docker run --privileged -it --rm ubuntu:focal and then within the container: apt-get update apt-get install ubuntu-dev-tools sbuild # Convince mk-sbuild to run as root touch /root/.sbuildrc usermod -a -G sbuild root newgrp sbuild # Run mk-sbuild mk-sbuild focal After much output, the above-described error will be output. Using a patched debootstrap causes the mk-sbuild to complete successfully. Regression testing of regular use of debootstrap (outside of Docker, as used in Ubuntu's image building) should be performed: the image content should be unchanged. [Where problems could occur] debootstrap is a fundamental piece of the Debian/Ubuntu image building infrastructure, and any change to it could have an impact on how Ubuntu images are built. ** Affects: debootstrap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948713 Title: focal: backport patch to allow mk-sbuild within Docker To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debootstrap/+bug/1948713/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1948598] Re: Can't unlock multiple devices in initramfs
** Description changed: - It is not possible to unlock multiple devices in the initramfs phase, - for example when having a zfs mirror as the root filesystem. [Bug 1938908] Re: Backport the container stack in Impish
Now there is no regression reported in any of the proposed-migration pages. All the packages needing changes to support the libcontainer API changes in runc built fine which I think it is enough validation for the SRUs here (we have links for all the builds in launchpad, let me know if I need to add all of them here for completeness). Now, I'll execute the Test Plan section which is basically running autopkgtest of runc/containerd/docker.io in all releases and report the outcome here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1938908 Title: Backport the container stack in Impish To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/containerd/+bug/1938908/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
