[Bug 1948355] Re: Firefox settings font size dropdown flashes, hard to select

2021-10-28 Thread Janne Moren
From #1948356:

"As an aside, I have a second system, installed at the same time and in
the same way (Ubuntu 21.04, then upgraded to 21.10). The second system
(my desktop at home) shows neither of these issues (this one and bug
#1948355). The bookmarks and settings are all synced from the same
Firefox account, and they're synced with each other.

The hardware differences are that this machine is an intel laptop with
integrated graphics, the other system is an AMD desktop with an AMD GPU.
For software, I may not have all the same extensions enabled. I will get
this data from home and compare tonight or tomorrow."

That screenshot doesn't show that memory tests actually ran. Did you run
the memory tests (which would take several hours)?

Your crash has been recorded at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/0d1b7258-3816-11ec-ae83-fa163e102db1 but
since it's the only crash of its kind I'm not yet sure that is valid.
Please ensure you have run the full suite of memory tests over night.

[Bug 1821412] Re: "System program problem" report button does nothing

2021-10-28 Thread Dan Bungert
** Description changed:

- Test Case
- -
- sudo xeyes &
- sudo kill -11 $PID from above
- receive crash notification
- click "Report problem..."
- Observe nothing happen
+ [Impact]
+ * Users, already annoyed that software has crashed and they have an
+ unwanted dialog instead, are unable to click the report button to
+ let us know about the crash.
+ * Two identical-looking dialogs exist - one on the system-crash
+ path, and one spawned by the background update-notifier process.
+ The system crash one is the failing one, the update-notifier one
+ is fine. The system crash one shows first, and users may not
+ bother to approve the second one given that the first didn't do
+ anything
+ * We receive fewer crash reports

- Research
-
- crash.c calls the following '/usr/bin/pkexec /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk'
and this works if I call it manually so something must be awry in crash.c.
+ [Test Plan]
+ * sudo xeyes &
+ * sudo kill -11 $PID from above
+ * receive crash notification
+ * click "Report problem..."
+ * We should see the report procedure start

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.04
- Package: update-notifier 3.192.14
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-7.8-generic 5.0.0
- Uname: Linux 5.0.0-7-generic x86_64
- NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair
- ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu23
- Architecture: amd64
- CurrentDesktop: MATE
- Date: Fri Mar 22 13:46:38 2019
- InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-08-10 (223 days ago)
- InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64
(20180725)
- SourcePackage: update-notifier
- UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to disco on 2019-02-28 (21 days ago)
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ * By the nature of the supplied fix, if the report process hangs
+ around, the normal systemd cleanup procedures would fail to clean
+ it up. This same risk is present for report processes initiated
+ on the non-system-crash report code path.
+ * Wayland is still affected even with this fix, for different reasons
+ (LP: #1947929)
+
+ [Other Info]
+ Q: Systemd says KillMode=process is not recommended
+ https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.kill.html
+
+ In this case, killing the other processes in the control-group is part
+ of the problem.
+
+ The system crash dialog is a relatively simple bit of code that shows
+ a dialog, then runs a report process. This dialog process is spawned
+ as part of a chain of processes downstream from
+ update-notifier-crash.service.
+
+ This dialog runs the report process using g_spawn_async(). After
+ spawning the report process, there isn't any particular reason to keep
+ the dialog process around, so it exits. This exit is triggering the
+ KillMode behavior, and because the report process is in the control
+ group, the report process is killed.
+
+ Another possibility for addressing the process management is to run
+ the report process synchronously - keep the dialog process around
+ until the report is done and just make the dialog not visible. This
+ is not a workable answer in this case because with the current gtk
+ code usage, the dialog sticks around - even after the call to
+ gtk_widget_destroy()! This appears to be due to usage of
+ gtk_dialog_run(). Long term I recommend we modernize this code.
+ My initial fix for this LP was in that direction.

[Bug 746699] Re: failure trying to install from Debian 4.0 (kernel 2.6.18-5)

2021-10-28 Thread Brian Morris
I had forgotten I even filed this a decade ago. I don't really have such
a system to test with anymore, and it's not clear what more recent
versions of things would be worth testing with. I suspect this can just
be closed.

[Bug 1946005] Re: php8.0: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0

2021-10-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Simon,

The autopkgtest workers seem to be super bogged down with jobs, and
unfortunately as a result autopkgtest still hasn't finished processing
php8.1, and I'm guessing may be another week or more before it will.

Meanwhile, I've gotten the bulk of the php ecosystem rebuilds uploaded.
There are some scattered build failures needing investigated but those
look reasonably straightforward. The autopkgtest failures have
typically been the more "interesting" problems but test results still
await.

Given this, I've gone ahead and uploaded the openssl 3.0 patch you
identified for php8.0. It probably won't matter, but can't hurt. I
think, though, that just having php8.1 in -proposed is going to be
enough to avoid blockage during your transition.

[Bug 1849346]

2021-10-28 Thread Daniel Calcoen
In my brand new Ubuntu 21.10 Impish has forced the change of Firefox as Snap,
so I'm suffering Kerberos not working from inside the Firefox snap.
Kerberos works fine at Linux level.KInit, KList, etc... shows that the tickets
are assigned and handle correctly when requested.

Which is different in our case that for normal people is that the use of
Kerberos requires to set in firefox the preference
"network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris" which by default is not set.
In my case it is set as network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris=cern.ch

I have everything setup correctly, linux and firefox snap, and the
problem present so if somebody could guide me a bit I can output any log
file/debug you wish to spot where the magic disappears.

[Bug 1949106] Re: HP hotkeys does not work.

2021-10-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1949106/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1904337] Re: Desktop crash on decorations computation

2021-10-28 Thread Uladzislau Nikalayevich
System: Ubuntu 20.04 focal
Package: Unity 7.5.1+20.04.20211026.1-0ubuntu1

Today I was working in Android Studio. I made a long session (~4 hours) without
any crashes. Usually Android Studio randomly crashes my DE every 15 minutes. I
didn't see any new additional graphical bugs.
Sometime i saw undercoated Ubuntu error windows "Unable to mount . Couldn't find matching udev device", but it's a old bug, i saw it on
unity 7.5.0+20.04.20210409.0-0ubuntu1.
I restarted compiz via command `compiz --replace --debug`. I saw messages in
console like this:

```
ERROR 2021-10-28 22:52:59 unity.decoration.shape DecorationsShape.cpp:78 Failed
to get shape rectangles
ERROR 2021-10-28 22:52:59 unity.decoration.shape DecorationsShape.cpp:78 Failed
to get shape rectangles
```
Unity handles this error property for me now. This happens when you click on
menu bar item and fast moves your cursor over menu bar.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

 libgl1-mesa-dri : Depends: libllvm12 (>= 1:9~svn298832-1~) but it is not
installable
 libxatracker2 : Depends: libllvm12 (>= 1:9~svn298832-1~) but it is not
installable
 mesa-vulkan-drivers : Depends: libllvm12 (>= 1:9~svn298832-1~) but it is not
installable

The issue is not created via a change in livecd-rootfs (which I had
presumed, but wanted to double check).

I'm also generally confused as installing mesa-vulcan-drivers,
libxatracker2, or libgl1-mesa-dri into a hirsute lxd container or VM
does not result in this error. I can dig further into packaging, but it
seems to be isolated to installing in this environment.

2021-10-28 Thread William Wilson
This actually appears to have been fixed by a patch in sfcgal 1.3.7-4,
which is in focal as of Dec 2019. If you are still experiencing this
issue with the latest version of sfcgal in focal, are you able to share
the code that is causing the issue?

[Bug 1832998] Re: Pure-FTPd Breaks with OpenSSL v1.1.1

2021-10-28 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Well, better late than never, I'm going to SRU this.

debdiff attached, and package uploaded.

for the SRU reviewers: note that this is 1.0 source, so even if I added
the patches separately in d/patches, they are in fact directly applied
to the tree; I didn't want to convert it to 3.0, or add a build-dep on
quilt.

[Bug 1948995] Re: Allow reverting to older revisions of a snap

2021-10-28 Thread Ian Johnson
You can set the number of revisions to keep with `snap set system
refresh.retain=`. The choice for Server is probably unfortunately a
victim of inheriting the default choice for Ubuntu Desktop, which is 2.
We originally had 3 for Desktop too (which is also still the default on
Ubuntu Core), but that was deemed to be too storage intensive for most
users so for "non-Ubuntu Core" we changed it to 2 instead, and it seems
that Server has gotten bundled into the definition of "non-Ubuntu Core".
I think there's a strong case to be made for having a different default
on Server vs Desktop, so if you want to open a new bug about changing
that (or we could re-use this one I suppose), I think that's a
reasonable thing to request be changed.

[Bug 1949029] Re: SSD disappears on Reboot but on cold boot is detected

2021-10-28 Thread Ghost Man
** Description changed:

I have a dual boot system (Windows 10 and Ubuntu 21)
  Lenovo Z50-70

I upgraded my storage to Samsung 870 QVO 1TB.

When I reboot the machine via Windows, the machine reboots normally and
SSD is detected. However, when I reboot the machine via Ubuntu, the
machine will reboot but it won't detect my SSD.

I have upgraded to the latest Ubuntu distro and have the latest kernels,
etc... I have validated that my installation and boot partitions are
  correct.

Other people who faced an issue similar to mine were using SSDs with
- NVME. However, my SSD is using NAND, not NVME so neither applying the
+ NVME. However, my SSD is SATA based, not NVME so neither applying the
fix I found about setting nvme latency nor upgrading distro have solved
  the problem.

On Windows, I had initially the same problem but on Windows after
selecting AHCI Standard SATA mode, the issue was solved. On Ubuntu, I'm
already in AHCI mode but the problem persists. I did few times grub boot
repair to validate if it was something messed up with my boot
configurations but turned out that it's not.

I'm able to use Ubuntu 21 at the moment. However, I'm unable to perform
a reboot. Every time I have to shut down the machine and then manually
push the laptop's button to launch it again because if I accidentally
hit reboot via Ubuntu, the machine will not find SSD and on next boot,
the BIOS falls back into Windows Boot Manager and I have to run grub
boot repair all over again via live USB.

I hope that you will find a solution for this problem soon.
