2021-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The instruction addresses (modulo 16 at least) seem to match up too well
to be a coincidence so I believe this is:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/45d4ce4e8f26828ab6993261e8a20208ecf261b0

https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/73a93ba578f68516e680373ae324db01336e8bad

which cumulatively make this the top gnome-shell crasher in impish.

[Bug 1949413] Re: Gnome shell crashes back to login screen randomly

2021-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

The first thing to check is whether the crash occurs without all the
extensions you have installed. Please uninstall these:

'places-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'coverflowalt...@palatis.blogspot.com', 'remove-dropdown-
arr...@mpdeimos.com', 'user-theme@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'openweather-extens...@jenslody.de',
'cpupo...@mko-sl.de', 'apt-update-indica...@franglais125.gmail.com',
'gnome-shell-screens...@ttll.de', 'extensi...@abteil.org', 'desktop-
icons@csoriano'

If the crash keeps happening after that then please follow these
instructions:

[Bug 1949363] Re: gdm segfault when changing session between users

2021-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1949200] Re: gnome-shell crashed with signal 5 error "Can't create a GtkStyleContext without a display connection" in gtk_style_context_init

2021-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Interesting the above attachments show the problem originating from:

#29 0x7f2746b35bfe in free_sound_event (d=0x7f273808bf20) at
/build/libcanberra-NELJAC/libcanberra-0.30/src/canberra-gtk-module.c:184

which is kind of similar to
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1475 where GTK is the
problem.

What gnome-shell extensions are you using?

[Bug 1876212] Re: audacity (with libwxgtk3.0-gtk3) doesn't draw with GTK_IM_MODULE=xim

2021-11-01 Thread Olly Betts
It's apparently a bug in GTK, not Audacity or wxWidgets, and "the
recommended fix is not to use xim":

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/2560

GTK4 has completely removed xim support.

If GTK2 is still relevant to you, then it looks like you could specify
settings just for that in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 rather than setting an
environment variable.

The packaging should be ready for both Debian and Ubuntu, but has been
intentionally waiting to upload to Ubuntu until it can be sponsored into
Debian and ack-ed by ftp-master in case anything needed to be changed
that would make syncing more challenging. They can technically be
reviewed to go to Ubuntu now as well if desirable.

Subject: [Bug 1949412] [NEW] Upgrade fwupd for Atomic Docking Support

Public bug reported:

This is to support Dell's new Atomic Docking.

Plan to still use 1.5.x branch given the tight schedule.

It's time we start to work on upgrading to 1.7.x and splitting its EFI
source package.

[Bug 1949252] Re: Ubuntu installed with wrong ZFS partition alignment for 4k HDD

2021-11-01 Thread BertN45
On Friday and Saturday I tried to improve boot times, but I destroyed the
installation in the process. I reinstalled the system on ext4, still using zfs
for my data.
Booting from ext4 solved my issue, I now boot the system in ~40 seconds instead
of 4 minutes.

I did find out, that it was not a "simple" alignment issue like I
thought writing the bug report, so I think you can dump this confusing
bug report.

[Bug 1949411] Re: GJS using lots of CPU resources non stop

2021-11-01 Thread florin
Right now I have in reality more files on the Desktop created either by
SimpleScreenRecording or Kdenlive and if I look at the Desktop, only a
previous list of files that existed on the Desktop can be seen. I cannot
interact with the Desktop in any way. See the screenshot with this, too.

[Bug 1949411] [NEW] GJS using lots of CPU resources non stop

2021-11-01 Thread florin
Public bug reported:

In my laptop, gjs is using lots of CPU resources (about 13% in my case) and I
cannot stop it. Keeping the mouse over it, it seems to be related to the
Desktop extension. I also attached a screeshot showing that. I tried Alt+F2 &
r, nothing changes in this regard; I tried disabling the extension and Alt+F2 &
r, nothing changes. Restart works.
When this happens, the mouse cannot interact with the desktop icons. For
instance, when I moved one file, it was still shown on the Desktop, although I
have already moved it with Nautilus/Files.

I have a theory: I use the desktop to temporary store files, also my
screen recording software creates the files on the Desktop. One time,
when I moved in Nautilus the file from the Desktop to my working
folders, this bug was triggered. Maybe it was a coincidence, but it sure
looked like that. My idea is that the extension does not properly work
with other programs interacting with the desktop and it somehow crashes
instead or re-scanning the files over there and paint them correctly.

[Bug 1946787] Please test proposed package

2021-11-01 Thread Corey Bryant
Hello Corey, or anyone else affected,

Accepted barbican into victoria-proposed. The package will build now and
be available in the Ubuntu Cloud Archive in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. To enable the -proposed
repository:

  sudo add-apt-repository cloud-archive:victoria-proposed
  sudo apt-get update

Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-victoria-needed to verification-victoria-done. If it
does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and
change the tag to verification-victoria-failed. In either case, details
of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1949397] Re: Hirsute update: upstream stable patchset 2021-11-01

2021-11-01 Thread Kamal Mostafa
** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

  Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to

by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream

[Bug 1940141] Re: OpenSSL servers can send a non-empty status_request in a CertificateRequest

Hi Dan,

Before the upstream openssl fix [1] the behavior was to send a proper
CertificateStatus if the client requested the status_request extension
from the server in a CertificateRequest. In other words, the additional
information contains valid data.

[Bug 1949397] [NEW] Hirsute update: upstream stable patchset 2021-11-01

2021-11-01 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

[Bug 1949395] [NEW] [RFE] Add zstd support for makedumpfile and use it by default

2021-11-01 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Public bug reported:

Recently makedumpfile had zstd[0] support added upstream[1]. My
suggestion here is to backport this work for Debian/Ubuntu and use it as
default (starting for example in 22.04), since it has a better
compression time and similar or even better compression rate. In [1]
there are good experiments, but I did a simple experiment in a small VM
(2G of RAM, idle) using Debian 11 (results in the first comment].

I'll open a Debian bug as well.
Thanks in advance,

Guilherme

[Bug 1949394] [NEW] elantech trackpad don`t work

2021-11-01 Thread hernane
Public bug reported:

since i installed linux on my gigabyte p56,the trackpad simply doesn`t
work. When i made a search, i discovered that once i reboot on windows
and then reboot back to linux, it came to life, but in normal
circumstances it is dead. I`ve found a patch that is suggested to work,
but once that doing it i`ll have to do it each time that update the
core, i ask to include the pacth on the main code, if its possible.

The patch and the problem was related on the dollowing link:

[Bug 1878029] [NEW] octavia loadbalancer refuses to manually failover

2021-11-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On 2020-04-09, we discovered that the failover command creates a new LB
instance, kills the old instance (which does not exist), and then fails
to plug a network port as there is already an ovs port on the host for
some reason.

This was discovered during a failed migration attempt using an amphora
image, so an attempt was made to use the failover command. We run the
Octavia loadbalancer with only a single amphora (standalone).

Some of the octavia units were missing the configuration for rabbitmq,
most likely since October 2019, which was fixed when we discovered it.

SEG escalation found the following:
- The duplicate db entry of port bindings causes a `loadbalancer failover` to
fail similarly to what is reported here
- Removing the additional ml2_port_bindings entry does not fix the issue

2021-11-01 Thread Pedro Principeza
@satish-txt Please refer to comment #8 [0]. A new LP Bug must be
submitted for that error. AFAIU, the error does not affect the problem
we solved with this version of `rasdaemon`.

[Bug 1893302] Re: SDDM freezes on system boot

2021-11-01 Thread Marco
I'm on UbuntuStudio 20.04 and had similar issues with lightdm I then
switched to sddm and exactly run into the same bug sporadically:

Nov 01 14:33:09 marco sddm-greeter[1127]: Message received from daemon:
Capabilities
Nov 01 14:33:09 marco sddm-greeter[1127]: Message received from daemon: HostName
Nov 01 14:33:12 marco sddm-helper[1114]: [PAM] Closing session
Nov 01 14:33:12 marco sddm-helper[1114]: pam_unix(sddm-greeter:session):
session closed for user sddm
Nov 01 14:33:12 marco sddm-helper[1114]: [PAM] Ended.
Nov 01 14:33:12 marco sddm[1007]: Auth: sddm-helper exited with 9
Nov 01 14:33:12 marco sddm[1007]: Greeter stopped.

The mouse still works but the sddm screen is basically unresponsive.

Is there any news on this?
