[Bug 1950520] Re: systemd-resolved delivers SOA information when it should not

2021-11-19 Thread Sergio Callegari
Thanks, I'll try that and try to report. I have already asked on various
forums if there is any way to replace /only/ the stub resolver (systemd-
resolved) with a more recent version without replacing all the code
related to init and the system initialization and been told there is no
safe way, hence I understand the fact that ubuntu has a single package
for the whole of systemd.

Unfortunately, that means that even if https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
support-team/+archive/ubuntu/systemd fixes the issue in a vm it will
probably be impossible to practically deploy daily updated init, etc on
a machine that must be reliably on daily use.

On the other side, I have found that it is relatively easy to workaround
the issue in systemd-resolved by making the local DNS server slightly
deviate from standards so that it responds SERVERFAIL instead of
NXDOMAIN for queries in .local.

As a final note, as mentioned above, I have moved this discussion by
closing this issue and opening a new one, where the problem in systemd-
resolved is properly identified. Please see bug 1950850.

what is a masterbug?
is it about to take over the universe and beyond?
do we need to achieve herd immunity?

should this be asked as a question?

can we kill bugs without killing one another?

[Bug 1951667] Re: [SRU] pulseaudio: restore hdmi audio be active output after resume

2021-11-19 Thread Hui Wang
This is the debdiff for jammy

thx.

** Description changed:

- this bug is for tracking purpose.
+ [Impact]
+ On the machines with legacy HDA audio driver, when users plug a hdmi/dp
monitor, the active output device is still speaker, need users to manually
select the hdmi, then the hdmi audio will be the users' preference, once it is
plugged, it should become the active output automatically. But with the current
PA, after reboot and suspend/resume, the hdmi can't change to be active output
automatically anymore.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Backport an upstream fix, this will fix the issue of "preferred ports being
cleaned by a mistake"
+
+ [Test]
+ On a machine with legacy HDA audio driver, install the patched pulseaudio,
then run 'rm ~/.config/pulse/*; reboot', plug a hdmi monitor, select the hdmi
audio to be active, with the hdmi monitor plugged and reboot, suspend and
resume, check what is the active output, it is still the hdmi audio.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ This patch is in the card-restore.c, if it could introduce regression, it
will be on the default active input/output devices, for example, users select a
input or output device to be active, after reboot, if those devices are
available, they should be active, but they could be replaced by other devices
if a regression is introduced. But this possibility is very low since we tested
the patch on a couple of desktop and laptop machines.

** Patch added: "pulseaudio_15.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu4.debdiff"

Re: [Bug 1932054] Re: molly-guard causes do-release-upgrade to fail

2021-11-19 Thread Leroy Tennison
Thanks for contacting me.  I actually have two bugs filed: 1932045 and
this one.  I don't know what happened or how 1932045 (easy-rsa) got
listed as "Affects" for this bug but the two have nothing to do with
each other.  If i knew how to remove easy-rsa as "Affects" for this bug
I would but I don't see any way to do so.  If you can dis-associate the
two i would appreciate it.  Thanks for your help.

[Bug 1942616] Re: Settings Power says high hardware temperature

2021-11-19 Thread Olivier Robert
I confirm the problem on Impish (21.10), and didn't have it on 21.04.
While I have indeed Turbo Boost turned off, it shouldn't behave like
that for two reasons :

- The message is false, there is no temperature problem.
- On CPUs with hardware-driven P-states (HWP) on, the performance mode of the
control panel sets the Energy Performance Preference (EPP) of the CPU to high
performance. While maybe not very useful, it's still possible technically to
have Turbo Boost off and EPP set to high performance, and I don't see why it
shouldn't be possible through Gnome.

I suspect Gnome checks the "no turbo" flag as a thermal trip indicator,
which it is not.

[Bug 1951666] [NEW] /usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids: No such file or directory

2021-11-19 Thread Richard Baka
Public bug reported:

I use the snap version of Smplayer on Ubuntu 21.10 (because the apt-installed
mpv missed some libs). It seems to work correctly but I got an cli error
message:
"/usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids: No such file or directory"

Does it mean there is no hardware acceleration? Could you fix it?

Additional question: In general I use only verified snaps. Could you
verify the publisher of the mentioned Smplayer snap? She/He seems to be
OK.

Thanks,

Richard

[Bug 1951665] [NEW] FTBFS with glibc 2.34

2021-11-19 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Public bug reported:

Building with glibc 2.34 leads to a compilation error because SIGSTKSZ
is not a constant anymore. From glibc's NEWS file:

  * Add _SC_MINSIGSTKSZ and _SC_SIGSTKSZ.  When _SC_SIGSTKSZ_SOURCE or
 _GNU_SOURCE are defined, MINSIGSTKSZ and SIGSTKSZ are no longer
 constant on Linux. MINSIGSTKSZ is redefined to sysconf(_SC_MINSIGSTKSZ)
 and SIGSTKSZ is redefined to sysconf (_SC_SIGSTKSZ).

Here's the error:

  In file included from /usr/include/signal.h:328,
   from
/<>/3rd_party/include/opentracing/catch2/catch.hpp:6456,
   from /<>/test/string_view_test.cpp:5:

[Bug 1951664] [NEW] tilix freezes, crashes and uses 100% memory when a tile is closed

2021-11-19 Thread FurretUber
Public bug reported:

Tilix is behaving in problematic ways when a tile is closed, differing
with how the way tilix is closed. Sometimes all tiles will crash,
sometimes the tilix windows will freeze and sometimes tilix will use 4
GB memory per closed tile. The memory seem to be recoverable after all
tilix windows are closed.

I suspect this crash is similar to the bug 1950470, but I'm not sure.

What happens when I right click and choose close to close one tile is:

core.exception.OutOfMemoryError@core/exception.d(647): Memory allocation failed

[Thread 0x7fffe87cb640 (LWP 8710) exited]

[Thread 0x7134f640 (LWP 8651) exited]

The last message before the crash and the backtrace I was able to get
when closing with Ctrl+D are:

[Bug 1951661] [NEW] Battery Optimization section missing

2021-11-19 Thread gregrwm
Public bug reported:

The Battery Optimization section has gone missing ever since i changed
the settings.

This morning i see only two sections, "Battery Levels" and "Other Settings",
under [System Settings -> Power Management -> Advanced Power Settings], having
just tried two recent jammy kubuntu live ISOs,
3666923520 2021-11-19 Fri 15:13:58 kubuntu/jammy-desktop-amd64.iso and
3667288064 2021-11-13 Sat 14:10:03 kubuntu/jammy-desktop-amd64.iso.

On a recent morning i had found a third section in [Advanced Power
Settings] called Battery Optimization or something quite like that, and
if memory serves me correctly i set it to begin charging at 40% and stop
charging at 60%. But ever since, i only see the two sections in
[Advanced Power Settings].

it makes sense that the panel icon is saying "Battery at 57%, not
Charging" because that fits what i asked for, and not discharging either
because as htop says it's "Running on A/C". i just unplugged the lappy
momentarily and htop tracked it as it steadily dropped from "57.1%" to
"56.6% (Running on battery)", so apart from the missing Battery
Optimization settings it all seems sensible. i was a bit surprised to
see it remembering the settings from a prior live session, but it makes
sense if the settings were set in the firmware.

in addition to what's currently (nearly) implemented in jammy kubuntu
i'm curious about optimizing battery lifetimes in general, and
specifically for my specific devices (see sig). Pointers to reasonably
reliable specific information would be appreciated. Like, what's best
overall, a full charge occasionally, a full discharge occasionally,
both, neither, or more specifically what?

[Bug 1951399] Re: Ubuntu, Budgie, Kubuntu, Kylin, MATE, Xubuntu: jammy daily fails to install

2021-11-19 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
Norbert,

I'm not JUST with Ubuntu Studio (which may go back to Ubiquity, btw),
but I'm also with the Kubuntu team, a member of the Community Council,
and, in this context, a member of the Bug Squad which is here to triage
bugs.

When triaging bugs, if we find a particular bug report is not helpful
(or described very well), then you get a standard response like I gave
you. When you say "see logs" and then upload an identical bug report
later with a crash, that shows a pattern that you're not willing to help
by describing where you were in the process when the installation crash.
Additionally, you were filing *multiple* bugs with the same description
which rightfully were marked as duplicates.

Please, do not take those personally. I was trying to be friendly by
injecting into the standard response that saying "see logs" doesn't
help. The standard response and my "'see logs' doesn't help" comment
were multiple hints as to what are needed by the Ubuntu Foundations Team
(the developers of Ubiquity) in order to solve the problem. Describing
what happened when the crash occurred helps them know *where* to look in
the logs for the problem.

Basically, I gave you information on how to help them help you, but
instead you drag me over the coals in your comment about me being "not
friendly". I don't work for Canonical, I'm not part of the Ubuntu
Foundations Team. I'm just as much of a volunteer as you.

The only reason I'm commenting here publicly is that with that public
comment about me, I felt the need to defend myself. In the future, if
you have a problem with me, email me directly or find me in IRC so we
can have a private conversation about it and thereby abide by the Code
of Conduct.

[Bug 1951403] Re: Xubuntu jammy daily install - on shutdown I get only black screen & inactive cursor.. no eject media & hit enter message

2021-11-19 Thread Chris Guiver
Jammy QA-test install (Xubuntu) on uEFI box
- sony vaio svp112a1cw (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT)

On failure to install, I shutdown

The box stayed at the plymouth(Xubuntu logo) screen for two minutes
before I hit enter.

On hitting enter the plymouth(Xubuntu) was replaced by Vaio logo & then
box turned off.

Some effect as BIOS box, just plymouth(Xubuntu) instead of black screen.

[Bug 1912950] Re: rsync halts with Permission denied (13) with a sticky dir and only recent kernels

2021-11-19 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Thanks for the report and sorry for the delay in replying.

I did a quick test here and tried to reproduce the bug using a Jammy VM.
Here's what I did:

# mkdir tmp1 tmp2
# for i in $(seq 20); do > tmp1/${i}; done
# chmod -R +t tmp1
# rsync -avz tmp1/ tmp2/

Everything seemed to work fine. It's important to say that I'm not
using ZFS here, but from your description I got the impression that you
aren't either; am I correct in assuming this?

Could you please provide a reproducer for this bug? Also, it would be
nice if you could confirm whether this still happens on Impish/Jammy.

Thanks.

[Bug 1927100] Re: Slow file dialogs, open and save

2021-11-19 Thread Brian Murray
I would have used a version number of 1.44.1-1ubuntu2~ppa1 as this is
greater than 1.44.1-1ubuntu1 and less than 1.44.1-1ubuntu2.

$ dpkg --compare-versions 1.44.1-1ubuntu2~ppa1 lt 1.44.1-1ubuntu2; echo $?

0

$ dpkg --compare-versions 1.44.1-1ubuntu2~ppa1 gt 1.44.1-1ubuntu1; echo $?
0

This is easy for a sponsor (me) to change though, so you don't need to
go through the effort of creating a new debdiff.

[Bug 782890] Re: no ping response on all hosts after upgrade

2021-11-19 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
I have installed backuppc on Jammy (current development release) and
verified that $Conf{Ping6Path} is correctly set to /bin/ping6. I also
installed the package on Bionic (our oldest LTS), and verified that
Ping6Path is empty there. The same issue happens on Focal.

I think the easiest solution here would be to pass "--bin-path
ping6=/bin/ping6" to configure.pl.

[Bug 1951653] [NEW] can't use NM for ethernet device on 20.04 LTS because it is 'strictly unmanaged'

2021-11-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

I have tried to tell netplan to let my ethernet device be managed by
NetworkManager, so that I can then configure a pppoe connection on top
of this device.

This fails with:

# nmcli c up netplan-wan
Error: Connection activation failed: No suitable device found for this
connection (device lo not available because device is strictly unmanaged).
#

I don't know why it mentions 'lo' in that message, but the wan interface
is unmanaged (as are all devices on the system, but this one is supposed
to be managed):

# nmcli d status | grep wan
wan   ethernet  unmanaged  --
#

After much searching, I've figured out that this comes from
/usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf:

keyfile]
unmanaged-devices=*,except:type:wifi,except:type:gsm,except:type:cdma

Even though I've told netplan to use the NM renderer for this device,
the configuration emitted by netplan is insufficient to override this.

Using the workaround from https://askubuntu.com/questions/71159/network-
manager-says-device-not-managed (sudo touch
/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf) doesn't
work, but if I set NetworkManager as the toplevel renderer in
/etc/netplan, /run/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-
devices.conf is emitted, which evidently DOES work. But I only have one
device that I want rendered by NM, so I shouldn't have to declare NM at
the top level of the yaml with a lot of duplication in order to get this
result.

I would argue that the 10-globally-managed-devices.conf should not be
there at all. But if it is going to be, then netplan needs to
consistently override it whenever there is any use of the NetworkManager
backend.

[Bug 1951399] Re: Ubuntu, Budgie, Kubuntu, Kylin, MATE, Xubuntu: jammy daily fails to install

2021-11-19 Thread Doug Smythies
On the parent page, http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/daily-live/ , it
says "Latest images to have passed any automatic testing; try this
first" for the "current" directory. And indeed, those files are dated
November 5th for the AMD64 versions. And yes, they do install fine,
however that is not relevant to all of these bug reports.

[Bug 1927100] Re: Slow file dialogs, open and save

2021-11-19 Thread buck2202
Sure, I'll try to take care of that soon.

I was also a little unclear on what to do about the version number--I
forced something non-standard (1.44.1-1ubuntu1-test) so that it would
locally supersede the current ubuntu version but not block updates.
Should the debdiff reflect what would be the next appropriately numbered
package version? Or is that taken care of later?

Sorry for the probably-trivial question, I haven't done this before

[Bug 1945565] Re: [SRU] Revert amdgpu/renoir firmware

2021-11-19 Thread Mario Limonciello
For 5.14 and 5.15 it will come in as part of stable update process.

It is picked up in 5.15.3 for 5.15.y:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.15.y=bb7e50b476abb8fc94a9891bb7f08ab21801fec5

It's picked up in 5.14.19 for 5.14.y:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.14.y=af09862cb5661cfdedd114ae50c7aaed94bd185a

As there is no 5.13.y, Canonical will need to manually pull this in for 5.13
OEM kernel.
Please restore the new firmware once it's pulled in.

[Bug 1951646] [NEW] [snap] Firefox unable to load Security Device "p11-kit-trust.so" defined in /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json

2021-11-19 Thread Marcos Simental
Public bug reported:

Environment:
Ubuntu 21.10 with default Firefox (v93.0) snap install.

Having defined a policy in /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json with the
following:
$ cat /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json
{
"policies": {
"Authentication": {
"Delegated": [
"example.com"
],
"NTLM": [
"example.com"
],
"SPNEGO": [
"example.com"
],
"Locked": false
},
"Homepage": {
"URL": "https://example.com;,
"Locked": false
},
"Proxy": {
"Mode": "system",
"Passthrough": ",.example.com,
"Locked": false
},
"SecurityDevices": {
"p11-kit-trust.so for Internal certificate chain":
"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkcs11/p11-kit-trust.so"
}
}
}

I got an error when looking over about:policies:
"Unable to load security device p11-kit-trust.so"
However, all other policies are active and applied correctly (meaning that snap
firefox can load /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json file).

After enabling debug for policies I get the following error:
Policies.jsm:
Exception { name: "NS_ERROR_FAILURE", message: "Component returned failure
code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIPKCS11ModuleDB.addModule]", result:
2147500037, filename: "resource:///modules/policies/Policies.jsm", lineNumber:

"onProfileAfterChange@resource:///modules/policies/Policies.jsm:1995:20\n_runPoliciesCallbacks@resource://gre/modules/EnterprisePoliciesParent.jsm:238:9\nBG_observe@resource://gre/modules/EnterprisePoliciesParent.jsm:291:14\n",
 location: XPCWrappedNative_NoHelper }
Policies.jsm:1998

I tried to reproduce with the firefox.deb package without success, so the
problem might be around snap.

2021-11-19 Thread Francois Thirioux
FYI I did experience such hard reboots (very annoying, for sure!) with lwfinger
dkms driver, but never (never) since some time and especially since Ubuntu did
include rtw89 in 5.15 kernel.
Maybe I'm lucky, or that's solved.

[Bug 1951645] [NEW] chmod 777 in autotools plugin

2021-11-19 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Hello, there's a chmod(777) in a snapcraft plugin that's probably far
too wide. 1777 sometimes makes sense on directories but most systems
will only have a handful of such directories.

os.chmod(
path,
stat.S_IRUSR
| stat.S_IWUSR
| stat.S_IXUSR
| stat.S_IRGRP
| stat.S_IWGRP
| stat.S_IXGRP
| stat.S_IROTH
| stat.S_IWOTH
| stat.S_IXOTH,
)

in
https://github.com/snapcore/snapcraft/blob/3dca4d860ed0a59f63b70e9e7288dc06027fbcbf/snapcraft/plugins/v1/autotools.py#L90

Can this be reduced to something tighter?

Thanks

If I'm understanding the patch correctly, this appears to be a merge

That version of the package no longer exists in the PPA so it's hard to

[Bug 1945967] Re: rtw89 kernel module for Realtek 8852 wifi is missing

2021-11-19 Thread Pirouette Cacahuète
For what it is worth, at some point, using
https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw89 branch's v7 was making my laptop
crashing, only symptom was me going away and coming back the laptop is
rebooted. It was happening after ~24-48h of uptime, regularly enough for
it to be painful.

I think my latest build was with
https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw89/commit/a3f3f39908872fe9edc887d857836d9cb4cb598c
and this was much rather stable.

@kaihengfeng Can we hope you cherry pick all the new fixes coming on v7
branch?

Without stability, I'll have to blacklist the kernel-bundled driver and
go back to the dkms one self-built :/

Thanks!

[Bug 1900617] Re: gateway error detail is not passed along in raised exception

2021-11-19 Thread Heather Lemon
Hello,

I am currently still working on trying to get a good test around this.

## 1900617 gateway error detail is not passed along in raised exception
# TEST CASE
1. use focal series lxc container
2. Enable proposed repo in /etc/apt/sources.list
3. deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-proposed main universe
4. sudo apt-get update
5. apt install etcd-client
6. apt-get install python3-etcd3gw
7. wget
https://github.com/etcd-io/etcd/releases/download/v3.3.13/etcd-v3.3.13-linux-amd64.tar.gz
8. tar -xvf etcd-v3.3.13-linux-amd64.tar.gz
9. openssl req -x509 -keyout localhost.key -newkey rsa:4096 -nodes -sha256 -out
localhost.crt
10. ./etcd --name infra0 --data-dir infra0 --cert-file=/root/localhost.crt
--key-file=/root/localhost.key --advertise-client-urls=https://127.0.0.1:2379
--listen-client-urls=https://127.0.0.1:2379
The first test is from the code with auth enabled, and a response+status code
is returned which i believe is the expected result. I am still trying to
confirm this by just using the the default etcd server setup locally. The
second output is from etcd server without python3-etcd3gw.

root@focal:~# etcdctl --endpoints https://127.0.0.1:2379
--ca-file=localhost.crt --cert-file=localhost.crt --key-file=localhost.key
--debug  --output extended role list

[Bug 1945741]

2021-11-19 Thread Infobob
I just upgraded to 91.3.1 from 91.3.0 and when composing an email I
still can't open an attached PDF file to confirm I am sending the
correct attachment. I thought I read that acknowledged bug was fixed in
91.3.1 ?

Error message is: C:\Users\BOB MAIN\Documents\BELMOON-RPT-1.PDF could
not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist.
Change the association in your preferences.

Thank you.

Your helper application is "Preview in Thunderbird" for "Portable
Document Type (PDF)"?

That is what this bug report is about, and verified again using the
91.3.1 release on Windows 10 and Fedora Linux.

Your issue is bug 1698140.

[Bug 1949362] Re: gdalinfo returns undef_symbol

2021-11-19 Thread Seth Arnold
Probably it's missing dependencies on libtirpc-dev to build and
libtirpc3 to run. Try installing libtirpc3 and see if that lets it get
further.

Thanks

[Bug 1733301] Re: indicator-applet-complete 1.18.0 icon scaling

2021-11-19 Thread Brian Murray
I went ahead and uploaded this for Impish after making a few changes to
the debdiff.

1) Fixed the package version number to 0.8.4-1ubuntu1
2) Fixed debian/control and XSBC-Original-Maintainer (using update-maintainer
would have done this properly)
3) Removing unused patch tagging guideline info from that patch

This bug still needs SRU information added to the bug description for
this to be accepted by the Ubuntu SRU team. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates for details.

[Bug 1950520] Re: systemd-resolved delivers SOA information when it should not

yes, https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-support-team/+archive/ubuntu/systemd

however that includes the entire upstream systemd code, not only
systemd-resolved; i'd suggest you test inside a VM and not on your main
system.

[Bug 1798363] Re: i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1200:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (16/65535)

2021-11-19 Thread JC Reus
I'm still seeing this problem happening on a Razer Blade 15 Advanced (mid-2021).
The issue only happens after a resume from suspend (both on laptop lid close
and on suspend from the command line using `sudo pm-suspend`

Upon wake, the mouse is jerky, clicking on things, and becomes
increasingly unresponsive. The terminal (dmesg) is constantly writing:

```
i2c_hid i2c-ELAN0406:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535)
```

None of the workarounds I have seen seem to be able to restore the
trackpad to working order. Such as..

```
sudo rmmod i2c_hid hid_multitouch && sudo modprobe i2c_hid hid_multitouch
```

and

```
xinput --disable 19 && xinput --enable 19
```

Only a hard shutdown and a restart seem to fix things.
