[Bug 1952556] Re: Jammy, attempt to log into Xorg session, "Oh no! Something has gone wrong."

2021-11-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If only something was actually crashing or logging errors, I see
neither. Just 'gnome-session-failed' gets incorrectly spawned some time
after login (when the overview first closes).

[Bug 1952094] Re: CIFS mount error: iocharset utf8 not found

2021-11-29 Thread ayanamist
I have installed them by installed linux-generic, and today i install
the latest official 5.4.0-91 kernel, but it is even worse now.

mount command:
mount -t cifs //192.168.58.13/share /mnt/share/ -o
username=guest,password=,noperm,noacl,file_mode=0644,iocharset=utf8,vers=2.1

Server is a windows server 2019 without any changes during the issues.

In 5.4.0-91, it seems that cifs is not loaded automatically, and after i
modprobe cifs, it still fails with "mount error(13): Permission denied" with
dmesg
[ 189.086484] CIFS: Attempting to mount //192.168.58.13/share
[ 189.090361] CIFS VFS: could not allocate crypto cmac(aes)

[ 189.099923] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -13

If i rollback to 5.4.0-89, everything works fine.

[Bug 1928075] Re: Segfault with qemu-aarch64-static doing debootstrap for debian bullseye but not buster

2021-11-29 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
To complete the former tests:
fail - 1:4.2-3ubuntu6.19~focalppa2 = lp-1928075-qemu-static-builds-f-plusfix

Which confirms the former thought that it isn't about the binfmt changes
in debian/* but an upstream change.

I'll need some builds for that ...

P.S. somewhere in the back of my mind forms a memory about a similar
issue, and we did identify the change and found that it was not
backportable for potentially causing more regressions than fixes. But
sadly I can't find the commit/notes/debug. So another bisect it will
have to be :-/

[Bug 1951098] Re: When screen is locked app indicators are still usable

2021-11-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Based on my limited testing, appindicators do go away in the lock screen
on Ubuntu 22.04. So it seems like this issue has already been fixed and
doesn't need upstreaming. We need more verification of that.

Confirmed that unloading works fine with PPA mainline kernel 5.14.21 and
5.15.5.

Confirmed that unloading works without any problem when driver / gpu /
drm / amd of 5.14.0-1006 is imported to 1007.

[Bug 1920190] Re: Printing to ipp printer uses multiple GB of ram. pdftoraster and/or filter chain selection at fault?

2021-11-29 Thread Pratyush Ranjan
The bug post was about excessive RAM usage leading to swapping. High CPU usage
shouldn't be a problem. Moreover pdftoraster takes more time than other
filters. Try using gstoraster for faster compilation.
The original issue was resolved here:-
https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups-filters/pull/363
Checkout what version of CUPS-filters you have.

[Bug 1952556] Re: Jammy, attempt to log into Xorg session, "Oh no! Something has gone wrong."

2021-11-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
After removing all extensions I can at least log in to a Xorg session.
But you get logged into the Activities Overview as expected. Clicking on
the desktop then triggers the crash "Oh no!".

So it seems the issue is something to do with the vanilla GNOME desktop.
We only see the bug sooner when Ubuntu Dock is loaded because that
starts on the desktop.

[Bug 1952584] Re: bash exec command unwanted behaviour

2021-11-29 Thread Ümit Atakul
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

  (GNU bash 4.3.46)
  (ubuntu 16.04 LTS)

Consider you have out.txt on current dir.
  ---
  >exec 123456789012>out.txt
  bash: exec: 123456789012: not found
  ---
exec command prints indicated error for large numbers that is supposed to use
as a fd but redirects /proc/$$/fd/1 to out.txt silently.

  Additionally,
  ---
  >exec 1234567890>out.txt
  bash: 123456789: Bad file descriptor
  ---
For large numbers but not that large (I don't inspect the limits!), exec
command rejects fd number but silently adds a new fd to current bash process.
In every execution of the command, bash adds a new fd to itself again and again.

[Bug 1952691] Re: starting mpv crashed my system after update

2021-11-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security

[Bug 1951098] Re: When screen is locked app indicators are still usable

2021-11-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We don't need to track gnome-shell for this. I already know that at
least in more recent versions of gnome-shell it unloads extensions when
the screen is locked. When that change happened doesn't matter -- it's
either Fix Released or not relevant here. The "not relevant" case would
be if gnome-shell-extension-appindicator was failing to shutdown/unload
when instructed.

This means either:

 (a) This bug is still open in gnome-shell-extension-appindicator only;
or

 (b) This bug was already fixed in newer versions of gnome-shell.

Regarding extensions, please try:

For the crashes I was actually expecting a gnome-shell crash would cause

show the commands you ran and the output they gave, and hopefully
someone there will have a suggestion.

Thanks

[Bug 1952251] Re: can't upgrade tp ubuntustudio 21.4 , can; t fing these files :

2021-11-29 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1952674] Re: Kernel 5.13 fails to work with lots of hardware (HP Zbook)

2021-11-29 Thread a1291762
I note that /dev/input/event7 to event26 are missing with kernel 5.13.
The Thunderbolt dock Ethernet seems to be this device (missing with kernel
5.13).

r8152 6-1.3.3:1.0 enx3c52821a24c3: renamed from eth0

I see what looks like the laptop's internal ethernet showing up though.
I didn't think to move the Ethernet cable to that port to see if it
would work.

My external monitors (BenQ FP937s and Samsync SyncMaster) show up for
both kernels. Interestingly, I don't see the internal panel showing up
under either kernel? But it works with 5.11 and not with 5.13.

I only see this with 5.11:

(II) modeset(G0): using drv /dev/dri/card0

And then some EDID probing, that maybe includes the internal panel?

Indeed, this is one of the potential downsides to the MIR: when we follow
through, we'll probably have *fewer* updates to the package, unless we
grant Unit 193 either core-dev or per-package upload privileges. That's
not something the MIR team can do, but we can suggest it strongly. :)
