[Bug 1962276] Re: [jammy] Laptop monitor does not turn off/disconnect when the lid is closed

2022-02-27 Thread rue
Hi Daniel, I upgraded to kernel version 5.15.25-051525-generic and I can say
things seem to be working.

Clam shell mode works.
Tested booting the laptop and then plugging in the HDMI and Hub. After closing
the lid it immediately switched to using the external monitor as default.

Booted the laptop with the HDMI and hub plugged in. The login screen
displayed on the External monitor, logged in and external monitor was
setup correctly as the default monitor.

Tested suspend and that worked as expected.

All seems to be working as correctly now

Thanks
Rue

[Bug 1909005] Re: Ubuntu does not resume (wake up) from suspend

2022-02-27 Thread André Dörscheln
Hi,

this was a problem for me too, but only until i saw, that there is a specific
driver/kernel-package for my exact notebook.
Maybe someone more experienced is able to extract the fix out of the tuxedo
packages (as those are only installable on Tuxedo machines as is and may
include fixes not needed for a different configuration):

Yes that probably eliminates Mutter from the equation. Sounds more
likely to be a kernel regression or something in between like gnome-
settings-daemon.

[Bug 1962276] Re: [jammy] Laptop monitor does not turn off/disconnect when the lid is closed

2022-02-27 Thread rue
Hi Daniel, not a problem I will try a few kernels out.
Just to add I noticed over the weekend, when using the laptop on it own it
doesn't suspend anymore when closing the lid.
All related I'm guessing.

Thanks
Rue

[Bug 1962337] Re: Pointer,Prospekt Mail

2022-02-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

It looks like the kernel is having some trouble with the touchpad which
would explain the problems you are experiencing;

detected and discarded.

and

[ 3279.346] (EE) event5 - SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: libinput bug: 1:

Assuming this is not a hardware problem, you would need a newer kernel
or newer libinput to fix it. Please try booting the latest Ubuntu from
USB to see if it is already fixed:

  http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

Please also try using a USB mouse as a workaround.

[Bug 1961849] Re: bluetooth connects with headset, deconects, connects, deconnects

2022-02-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for testing that. This puts us in an awkward position because
PipeWire is not meant to be used for audio or Bluetooth in Ubuntu. Not
sure if Xubuntu planned to do anything different.

I am hopeful this issue is a side effect related to bug 1953052 in which
case it may be fixed by https://salsa.debian.org/utopia-team/pipewire-
media-session/-/merge_requests/1 when PulseAudio becomes the only option
again.

[Bug 1962415] Re: I can't use Bluetooh even though Im sure that my LAPTOP has Bluetooth capabilities

2022-02-27 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

[Bug 1962170] Re: DEP8 failure with samba 4.15.5

2022-02-27 Thread Andreas Hasenack
My last idea is that maybe adsys got caught in the same bug as
backuppc[1], and is trying to send empty username/password for anonymous
authentication. I tried to catch it doing so, but couldn't find a good
spot in the test for that. I think the auth is handled by
https://github.com/mvo5/libsmbclient-go, and I managed to crash that
standalone demo utility even.

@didrocks, could you give a hand on this one?

[Bug 1871030]

2022-02-27 Thread Forest
> unable to communicate with the first paired instance

The word "paired" should have been in parentheses. I don't know what ate
them. To be clear, only one user has paired KDE Connect with the Android
app, yet the second user's kdeconnectd instance makes the first instance
stop working. Unless there's another way to fix this, I think I need a
way to disable kdeconnectd for the second user.

[Bug 1871030]

2022-02-27 Thread Forest
+1 for adding the option on a per-user basis. It's not just a matter of
convenience; the lack of this option breaks KDE Connect on my multiuser
system: As soon as a second desktop session is started, the new
kdeconnectd instance seems to steal the Android app's attention, leaving
it unable to communicate with the first paired instance.

I tried copying /etc/xdg/autostart/org.kde.kdeconnect.daemon.desktop to
the second user's ~/.config/autostart/ and adding Hidden=true, as
specified in the freedesktop spec. It didn't help.

I tried renaming /etc/xdg/autostart/org.kde.kdeconnect.daemon.desktop.
It didn't help.

I searched for a systemd --user unit that I could disable. I didn't find
one.

This really should be a per-user option, listed in Background Services
along with all the others.

In the meantime, I would appreciate a workaround, if somebody knows of
one.

[Bug 1953261] Re: kernel >= 5.13 BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference

2022-02-27 Thread DiagonalArg
I am seeing in the Arch UEFI documentation:

UEFI Runtime Variables Support (efivarfs filesystem -
/sys/firmware/efi/efivars). This option is important as this is required
to manipulate UEFI runtime variables using tools like
/usr/bin/efibootmgr. The configuration option below has been added in
kernel 3.10 and later.

CONFIG_EFIVAR_FS=y

UEFI Runtime Variables Support (old efivars sysfs interface -
/sys/firmware/efi/vars). This option should be disabled to prevent any
potential issues with both efivarfs and sysfs-efivars enabled.

CONFIG_EFI_VARS=n

Unfortunately, in Ubuntu 20.04, both of these are set =y

Is this an error? Should I be reporting this as a kernel bug? And what
are the implications? Should we be deleting dump-* in both?

[Bug 1956461] Re: Creative HD720p webcam doesn't work

2022-02-27 Thread Doug Brown
Technically this fix hasn't actually landed in an official kernel yet.
Right now they are in the part of the cycle where they release weekly
release candidate builds of 5.17. This fix first showed up in v5.17-rc3.
I would expect v5.17-rc6 to be released today, and the final 5.17 to be
released in (early?) March.

I'm not an expert at Ubuntu's release processes, but I went through a
similar wait on a different bug fix. Here is my understanding of the
process of this fix getting into Ubuntu's 5.4 kernel:

The patch was CC'd to linux-stable. I would expect it to be accepted as
a stable patch, because it fixes a regression. It doesn't appear to have
been accepted yet. Once it is accepted as a stable patch, it should show
up in this tree:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/log/?h=linux-5.4.y

Then, a new 5.4.x stable mainline kernel will be released containing it.
Sometime after that, Ubuntu should automatically pick up the patch into
their kernel. I'm not sure if there's a way to speed up the process to
get them to cherry-pick just this fix sooner. It is a seriously annoying
regression!

[Bug 1962053] Re: Modules missing from package install

2022-02-27 Thread Mark Hargrove
Ok! at least we know whats going wrong if not why. I'll leave this with
you; sounds like it might take a little time figure out.

This isn't a 'production' machine so its not urgent/pressing from my
point of view. Equally because its only a dev/play/experimental machine
if you need me to try something or need more information just let me
know / ask, and I'll be happy to help.

I'll shut the machine down and leave it as it is - so if you need to
come back to it, it should be pretty much in the same state as is
documented above.

I have the same, just got it two days ago. Unforntunately even with
installing the release candidate rc4 and rc5 of kernel5.17, the sound
does not work. When going to sound settings it does not list anything as
output devices.

I am using ubuntu 21.0 actually.

Any idea?

I also had plenty of issues setting the bluetooth connections to my
keyboard, gnome-shell is consuming CPU like crazy etc - so seems like
some kind of outside force is trying to keep this PC and ubuntu as far
as possible :D

[Bug 1962410] [NEW] "Install RELEASE" icon appears in the launcher on the left side of the screen

2022-02-27 Thread 27grains
Public bug reported:

"Install RELEASE" icon appears in the launcher on the left side of the
screen

Trying to install Ubuntu 21.10 Dual Boot with Windows 11 on 2012 BIOS
PC, Always worked before.

I install Win first, the Ubuntu iso on disk I did not have the option to
install beside windows,
Why was that option not available?

GRUB Dose not show Windows, it shows Windows something else, during
install I received error Grub could not be installed Fatal Error, I
clicked OK rebooted and GRUB was there.

Ubuntu should be a no brainer, automatic for windows users still
learning Linux.

Please make it easier.

[Bug 1962053] Re: Modules missing from package install

2022-02-27 Thread Juerg Haefliger
Thanks. Yeah this is not good:

copymods /usr/lib/modules tmpfs rw,relatime,inode64 0 0

It means that modules are installed to a temporary filesystem that is
thrown away during a reboot. I need to dig some more into how and why
this is happening.

Hi, using latest 5.16 kernel version fixed the problem for me. Actually it
was a problem with amdgpu so i'm not sure it is the same for your
architecture but new kernel always comes with latest drivers support. Maybe
tout could give a try ti thé Dev version of Ubuntu 22.04 to see...

[Bug 1917187] Re: lxc cgroup2: containers unbootable

2022-02-27 Thread Serge Hallyn
FWIW this is affecting me on jammy too. I'll have to take a look at
systemd sources. Adding:

lxc.init.cmd = /sbin/init systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy

to my config does not help, nor does bind mounting a /proc/filesystems
without 'cgroup' (v1) in it.

The previous kernel 5.11.0-43 boots without any issues, suggesting that
there isn't an actual hardware problem with the drive or the SATA

[Bug 1909005] Re: Ubuntu does not resume (wake up) from suspend

Same issue for me on a new Dell Inspiron 14" laptop on Ubuntu 20.04,
kernal version 5.13.0-30-generic.

16 GB DDR, 512 SSD.
i7, Intel graphics.

Usually I get to the unlock screen and the mouse pointer can be moved,
but I can't click on anything and the keyboard doesn't work. Sometimes
it seems like unplugging and reconnecting power and/or a usb mouse
transceiver makes it recover and allow me to recover; sometime not.

[Bug 1962403] [NEW] Gamepads are no longer detected

2022-02-27 Thread FurretUber
Public bug reported:

After the upgrade from Firefox deb to Firefox snap, my gamepad is no
longer being detected.

One gamepad is a Feitun FM0013, a gamepad with at least 5 operation
modes I've found so far: Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, X-Box wired
controller, PS3 wired controller, PS3 wireless controller and generic
Bluetooth controller.

From these 5 operation modes, X-Box wired controller, PS3 wired
controller and generic Bluetooth controller work on my computer, while
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller mode is found but doesn't detect any
buttons while using PS3 wireless controller mode isn't found.

When using on my notebook and smartphone, I normally use this gamepad in
generic Bluetooth controller mode, as I want to use it wirelessly more
often. I have noticed that any of the modes that worked with Firefox deb
(X-Box wired controller, PS3 wired controller and generic Bluetooth
controller) stopped working with the snap.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Have Firefox installed as a snap;
2) Connect gamepad with one of its compatible modes;
3) Access page/game to test the gamepad
(https://hacks.mozilla.org/2013/12/the-gamepad-api/ or
https://luser.github.io/gamepadtest/ or http://www.cross-code.com/en/start for
example);
4) Notice how the gamepad isn't detected.

I have a Redragon Seymur 2 too, and it also isn't detected. Using the
Firefox from the Mozilla page, the gamepads are found and appear as
follow in the luser's page:

gamepad: 0079-0006-DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick
gamepad: 045e-028e-Microsoft X-Box 360 pad

The X-Box 360 one is the Feitun. Using Bluetooth, the Feitun appear as:

gamepad: 1949-0402-Gamepad

So, unfortunately, Firefox snap is unusable to play games while using
gamepads. For example, I can play CrossCode on the Chromium snap, but am
unable to play it on Firefox snap.

[Bug 1962052] Re: core dump on start

2022-02-27 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I can confirm the problem. This is a regression with the latest release
in jammy. The previous one was still OK. There were many FTBFS
releases before 3.5.2+ds-1 so I had a hard time confirming the last
working release in jammy. I gave up and reverted back to the one from
impish and the problem is gone. I am fairly certain that there was at
least 1 working version in jammy before.

- the drag mode. Clicking somewhere or pressing Esc returns it to the
- normal state.
+ Sometimes dragging something in Chrome or Firefox results in the
+ draggable item being stuck to the cursor.

- For example, I want to click something, but the mouse is moving slightly
- during the click, resulting in the drag. Even though the left mouse
- button is released after the click, the cursor gets stuck in the drag
- mode, even though the button release was registered via `xinput --test-
- xi2 --root`.
+ This is a video of the issue: https://emalm.com/?v=DsBSK

- This causes constant annoying text drops / links to the desktop, copying
- something to somewhere else accidentally. This happens many times a day.
+ Steps to reproduce:

- I'm using a graphics tablet (Wacom C480) and a mouse. This is
- reproducible with both.
-
- `gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active false`
- doesn't help.
-
- This is the video of the issue: https://emalm.com/?v=DsBSK

+ 1. Go to google.com
+ 2. Click the Google logo, move the logo as little as possible but enough to
cause dragging and then release as soon as possible after you see that your

[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones

2022-02-27 Thread Duke Fong
@PowerKiKi
The to912 script needs to be re-run after the audio sleeps. I have been running
it manually for two years. Yesterday, I wrote a script that runs automatically
after booting. It is much more convenient now. The script snippet:

LAST=0
while true; do
#pacmd list-sink-inputs  | grep -w state | grep -q RUNNING && CUR=1 || CUR=0
cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/status | grep -q RUNNING && CUR=1 || CUR=0

sleep 1
[ $LAST != $CUR ] && echo "audio state: $LAST -> $CUR @ $(date)"
if [ $LAST == 0 ] && [ $CUR == 1 ]; then
echo "run fix_audio ..."
./to912_fix_audio.sh &> /dev/null
fi
LAST=$CUR
done

[Bug 1958720] Re: python3-yaml and python3-six are not co-installable with python-is-python2 in jammy

2022-02-27 Thread Rolf Leggewie
@mhodson: why did you remove six from this ticket? The affect I
described is very much present for python3-six. readding six task

@racb: thank you for having a thorough look. you are spot on in #10,
the problem is present only focal2jammy, not impish2jammy.

Thus, one possibility to deal with this situation is instead of
completely dropping the breaks is to erlax them to exclude the python
version from focal. Let me know if this is preferrable and I'll happily
provide a debdiff.
