[Bug 1956115] Re: ubuntu-advantage-tools ' MOTD is incompatible with Ubuntu Legal's MOTD opt-out directions.
You did respond to the questions so this should not have expired out. However, your answers beget more questions so I will be setting this back to incomplete. > /etc/default/motd-news as outlined in the link > "/etc/default/motd-news has an ENABLED=1 setting that if set to 0 will turn > off this functionality." > The file no longer exists by default. This would be required to change the ENABLED variable from 1 to 0. The file did exist by default in the focal release, but the changes in LP: #1888575 were SRUed such that this file also does not exist on an up-to-date Desktop system of a previous Ubuntu release - only on an Ubuntu Server system. > The directions or pulled location are wrong. ubuntu-advantage-tools requires > MOTD which > itself it does not control, both of which are not removable as they are > dependencies of > ubuntu-desktop-minimal. Subsequently there are forced hooks for MOTD and Apt > for > something most desktop users aren't using with the inability to opt out in > the way it is listed. So your objection is in the context of Ubuntu Desktop, not Server? > The reason why this matters is a disabled service through systemd will then > be enabled. By > doing so it procs the running of said MOTD service which does reach out to > the internet. > The only certain option is to mask the services and timers entirely. I do not understand what this refers to, because the /lib/systemd/system/motd-news.service service calls /etc/update- motd.d/50-motd-news, which does nothing if the file /etc/default/motd- news does not exist. This is the case on Desktop systems. So can you clarify what it is that is running that you think should not be? ** Changed in: base-files (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956115 Title: ubuntu-advantage-tools ' MOTD is incompatible with Ubuntu Legal's MOTD opt-out directions. [Bug 1963698] Re: ovn-controller on Wallaby creates high CPU usage after moving port
In this specific case (the environment Olivier described), we tested focal-xena and the issue was NOT reproducible. We've decided to go with Xena so field-high can be dropped (I'm not able to remove the subscription by myself here). Assuming that it might be focal-wallaby specific since we haven't seen this kind of issues in other customers with ussuri, there may be some patches which needs to be backported. e.g. other distribution seems to have backported the following: https://github.com/ovn-org/ovn/commit/c83294970c62f662015a7979b12250580bee3001 (no idea if it's connected to the issue or not though) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963698 Title: ovn-controller on Wallaby creates high CPU usage after moving port To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ovn/+bug/1963698/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1963864] [NEW] Can't resolve using custom nsswitch.conf items
Public bug reported: The host /etc/nsswitch.conf is not being honored inside the snap container leading to .docker (or using my custom plugin .lxd) hosts not being resolved. How to reproduce: 1. Run a docker host name 'test' with a http server in it. 2. Install libnss-docker. 3. ping test.docker and see that it works. 4. Open snap firefox. 5. Access http://test.docker and see that it doesn't resolve the IP properly, thus the site is not opened. Another way to reproduce: 1. Create a lxd container named 'test' with a http server in it. 2. Download and install: https://launchpad.net/~shemgp/+archive/ubuntu/other-apps/+files/libnss-lxd_0.06-0ubuntu2~impish_amd64.deb 3. Ping test.lxd and see that it works. 4. Open snap firefox. 5. Access http://test.lxd and see that it doesn't resolve the IP properly, thus not being able to access the website. I'm not sure how to be able to resolve this since the binary is in the host? Perhaps systemd-resolved's dnsmasq can be coaxed to use /etc/nsswitch.conf and the container's be coaxed to use the hosts :53 dns? [Bug 1963850] [NEW] xcape-super-binding.desktop doesn't show in the autostart application list
Public bug reported: /etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/autostart/xcape-super-binding.desktop was added into xubuntu-default-settings 21.10.3. It will be launched at session startup, but it doesn't appear in the `Application Autostart' list of xfce4-session-settings. Since it will change the behavior of the super key, the users using the super key as a shortcut in other applications may get confused. The solution is easy: add one line `Type=Application' into the xcape- super-binding.desktop, then it will appear in the list, and the affected users can easily disable it. ** Affects: xubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963850 Title: xcape-super-binding.desktop doesn't show in the autostart application list To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xubuntu-default-settings/+bug/1963850/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1951032] Re: AArch64: Backport memcpy improvements
** Description changed: [impact] glibc 2.32 contained a number of improvements to the memcpy routines for server-grade AArch64 implementations (in particular, graviton2 & graviton3). They should be backported to focal, as the LTS releases are by far the most used on servers. [test case] - Compile the test_memcpy.c that is attached to this report: + Download the "bench.tar.gz" attachment from this report. It has a README + that explains what to do, but here it is for reference: - $ gcc -g -O3 test_memcpy.c -o test_memcpy64 + benchmark for testing arm64 memcpy improvements in SRU - "./test_memcpy64 1024" should be run before and after installing the - libc packages from proposed. On graviton2 systems, this should show a - substantial improvement. On other arm64 systems (raspberry pis of - various vintage, thunderx2, xgene, etc etc) at least no significant - regression should be seen. + This is a benchmark that was derived from the memcpy benchmarks in glibc but altered to benchmark the public 'memcpy' symbol and be linked to the + installed libc. + + To use this there are 5 steps: + + 1. build -- just run "make test" + 2. run before upgrade -- "make bench-before" + 3. upgrade libc6 package -- depends on what is being tested! + 4. run again -- "make bench-after" + 5. compare -- "make compare" + + It produces output like this: + +length | before |after |delta + --|--|--|-- + 32768 | 125995 | 133696 | -6.11% + 65536 | 133349 | 140856 | -5.63% +131072 | 139653 | 146419 | -4.84% +262144 | 145441 | 152353 | -4.75% +524288 | 191951 | 199856 | -4.12% + 1048576 | 240515 | 256623 | -6.70% + + On graviton2 systems, this should show an improvement of at least + several percent. On other arm64 systems (raspberry pis of various + vintage, thunderx2, xgene, etc etc) no significant regression should be + seen. [regression potential] Rebuilding glibc is always a little risky (toolchain bugs and incompatibilities between the old and new versions can be surprising). But the autopkgtests and some manual general testing can help here. For this specific change, there is a potential risk that the new memcpy implementation could be used on a system where it is not in fact the fastest. We should run the test case not only on the systems where it is expected to help, but other systems such as the RPi4 and the launchpad build farm to ensure performance is not regressed there. ** Attachment added: "bench.tar.gz" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1951032/+attachment/5566380/+files/bench.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951032 Title: AArch64: Backport memcpy improvements To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1951032/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs
I just noticed something this morning that may or may not be relevant. I normally have vlc running on my system and it was on and running at and after the point where I updated to the new release. When testing with a new user I closed down everything on my usual user. I now find that vlc hits the same segfault when I attempt to open it. So it appears that if a program was open and running before the update was applied it continued to do so, but once closed it could encounter the same segfault when it attempts to start. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962807 Title: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/1962807/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1963719] Re: Sync pagekite 1.5.2.200603-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
With respect to the importance of this bug, I would say that it's rather important and not wishlist. This bug doesn't make the package completely unusable in jammy (the client still works), but if you wanted to run a pagekite server on jammy, you can't. In Debian terms, this would be an RC bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963719 Title: Sync pagekite 1.5.2.200603-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pagekite/+bug/1963719/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1904270] Re: ubiquity does not support existing LUKS encrypted partitions
Has anyone come up with a workaround for the "ValueError: encryption key or keyfile must be specified" bug? I'm trying to install Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 here, too, after manually creating a slightly tweaked LUKS device, and the installer keeps failing. Perhaps an older point-release of 20.04 still works? [Bug 1963830] [NEW] No time/clock on panel (ayatana indicators)
Public bug reported: The clock/time indicator isn't shown on the panel (ayatana indicators) on Ubuntu Mate 21.10, or Jammy Jellyfish (22.04), however if I click where it is supposed to be, I'll still see a calendar. If I co into the indicator settings in the control panel, and choose to show seconds, it'll show the time, but with a bunch of random numbers after the minutes. [Bug 1963818] Re: Upgrading to 22.04 on wayland session closes session
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1963818/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
