Re: [Bug 1927808] Re: rtw88_8821ce causes freeze
Do you know whether the fix that went into 5.15.0-22.22 (or into 5.15.0-17.17) is any different from what went into impish 5.13.0-28.31? That impish fix did NOT work, did NOT solve the issue. Oh well... jammy will be released soon, and I will test. I wonder whether this bug will remain "alive" until then so, if needed, whether I will be able to complain about the fix not working (as it did not for impish). [Bug 1964274] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes after tracker-extract-3 reports "Not a JPEG file: starts with 0x89 0x50"
Public bug reported: System : Ubuntu 21.10 Kernel 5.13.0-35 Session : Wayland Each time I try to rip a CD with "abcde" gnome-shell crashes What I understand from the logs : Before the CD is ripped, abcde downloads a picture (from internet) as a cover of the CD. When tracker-extract discovers this picture something bad happens. Then gnome-shell crashes. After the crash (and re-login into Ubuntu) I can resume the ripping process as the picture has been cached by abcde, and tracker-extract does not interact again with it. [Bug 1953261] Re: kernel >= 5.13 BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference
@sttzr : I'm the Debian package maintainer, I don't maintain the package for Ubuntu, nor do I have Ubuntu upload rights. I watch the bug reports for Ubuntu packages and fix them "upstream" (Debian is Ubuntu's upstream), but that's it. If you want to learn more about the relationship between Debian and Ubuntu, please read this : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Ubuntu/ForDebianDevelopers Unfortunately, I don't plan to become an Ubuntu developer or uploader, I don't have time for this. However, a couple of weeks ago, when I saw @mwbradley's messages and yours, I tried to help by searching how to request for a package to be backported in Ubuntu older releases. I'm pretty sure that there used to be some wiki page explaining how a "mere" user could request for a particular package to be backported, but after spending nearly an hour crawling on Ubuntu wiki, I couldn't find it. All I found was the backports page which explains that one has to prepare a backported package, open a bug, find a sponsor, etc etc. I have all my tools to prepare packages for Debian, creating such a set of tools for Ubuntu, even only for two particular releases, would take me hours, let alone opening two bugs, finding a sponsor, request the backports, etc etc. I don't have that time. At that point, I was just fed up, and gave up without even leaving a note here to explain it. @linrunner was more clever than me by sending directly an e-mail to a well known Ubuntu developer who previously patched acpi-call in Ubuntu for a this kernel incompatibility when it first appeared. We're still waiting for an answer. If you want this backport that bad, try to find the procedure to request it; if not, just download version 1.2.2 from Debian unstable or Ubuntu devel, and install it on your machine. Sorry, but I won't spend any more time on this bug. [Bug 1964266] Re: Ubiquity crashed because I tried to replace the seemingly strange installer files with old Cosmic ones from pkgs.org (because cuttlefish=tikhlet=awesome)
By the way, this installer was from a DVD in issue 248 of Linux Pro Magazine, July 2021 purchased at Barnes and Noble here in Norman, Oklahoma sometime last August or September. [Paranoid conspiracy warning!!] I have also been suspicious of a lot of things for a long time that are documented online in a few places but only yield two pages of search results if that even. And the only time that happens instead of the endless pages of results is when something has been redacted it feels like. But I am paranoid because I used to work for attorneys on million dollar trials and was the graphics guy that just came in and didn't talk to anyone for a few weeks and then left. And I worked as a temp for upper management at KPMG one summer when I noticed an extra connection to my router that IT people couldn't even explain. I've been threatened and have had many attempts to kill me that failed by the grace of God (my friend can attest to the one where they dumped pure sodium hydroxide in my humidifier that they slid underneath my bed after turning it on to spray everywhere which they did after drugging me with something that knocked me out almost instantly. It was definitely not self-induced. And my mom could have attested (she passed away this last fall) to the near electrocution from live wires buried in a spot where I had tilled the soil the year before eight inches deep. It was a clean cut and not shredded from a rototiller. In other words, there is a lot that might have been done to keep tabs on me and make sure I wasn't a liability for any reason considering the clients that my team was working with. And if there had been a lot of attempts to hurt me there would be a lot at stake to cover it up. So there is no telling what lengths someone would go to to make this appear normal, and only you all would know how normal it is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964266 Title: Ubiquity crashed because I tried to replace the seemingly strange installer files with old Cosmic ones from pkgs.org (because cuttlefish=tikhlet=awesome) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1964266/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1964266] [NEW] Ubiquity crashed because I tried to replace the seemingly strange installer files with old Cosmic ones from pkgs.org (because cuttlefish=tikhlet=awesome)
Public bug reported: I don't know that it's a bug. I just felt like there were some strange files and thought someone might have tampered with my installation. I tried to download the files, but there was no groovy on pkgs.org, and I wasn't thinking when I started to replace them all with cosmic ones. Something broke. I don't know what. But it's probably more because of my hoping for cuttlefish when everyone is into gorillas. How come cosmic cuttlefish is hard to find online? Because that happened at the same exact time that I discovered that the Biblical tikhelet was probably made from some kind of cuttlefish blood because they are one of only two creatures that has cyanide instead of iron in their blood which makes it blue. They are blue blooded, extremely intelligent, they can camouflage themselves like the Tabernacle in the Wilderness probably was camouflaged in some way, they are able to change their colors to match the surroundings like the smoke by day and fire by night, and they flee from their enemy like the Israelites from the Egyptians while the enemy is lost in a wave of ink. And just like Jesus Christ shed his blood, their blood would have been symbolic of that as well which makes sense because the veil of the Tabernacle was dyed purple and tore at the moment Jesus Christ died on the cross symbolizing God's acceptance of that as being sufficient for the priests to come to the Holy of Holies instead of just the grand high priest once a year or whatever it was. And so Jesus being both blue-blooded (faithful) and true (blue) would have been appropriately symbolized before hand, pre-seeded if you will, by the shedding of blue blooded creatures to be the symbol of that separation that Jesus Christ's blood replaced. So He now serves as the high priest for us which is why He said no one comes to the Father but through Him. Through Him we can make our requests known directly to God coming before Him confidently in knowing that He will see us as made clean by accepting His Son as legitimate and the authority of all things. People have accused me of trying to be Jesus Christ or trying to scam people which is why I made my password what it is. I am not Jesus Christ. I am still usually faithful and true, but that is because He is in me in a way. The same Spirit rules out the evil and bad and causes me to focus on the Golden Rule, and that is a process that is a path everyone must take on their own through His guidance which happens on its own. But people might come along and try to make it look like all sorts of things with smoke and mirrors. The enemy roams like a roaring lion looking for the sleeping. When he comes near let him find us keeping the higher ground down on our knees eyes to the east. (Twila Paris) But then Jesus Christ is the Lion from the tribe of Judah. That's a different and less scrappy looking lion, but still very much in tune with scrappiness even when clothed in white and gold. He is beautiful and human in many ways which is why it isn't fair to say He was perfect. He was perfect as the requirement for what He did, but how can you be human without making mistakes in your lifetime? Fortunately He has had thousands of years to figure it all out though. But what do I know? I can't even get a computer to boot most of the time, so cuttlefish are probably a better source of information. That was a good one though, and perfect timing. Jehovah wanted you to know that even if your OS is kind of bloated with overly commercialized things that feel sort of getting away from the Linux spirit, but at the same time are probably necessary as a gateway drug for people addicted to Mac wanting to overcome their addiction and use a less expensive drug. I mean OS. Seriously though, thank you for such an impressive product. NFSv3 is fine, it's udp that is disabled in the kernel (I think you understood that, and above is just a typo, but clarifying nonetheless). [Bug 1964093] Re: nfsver=3,udp not working anymore
I am currently very confused. I restored the snapshots of my test VMs from yesterday and now I can mount the NFS-shares on the jammy server on all clients (Knoppix, Ubuntu 18.04) with nfs3+udp after putting "udp=y" in /etc/nfs.conf, also with the last kernel version 5.15.0-18. Yesterday in all my tests the udp=y param was ignored, only the vers=? params had an effect after restarting the nfs-kernel-server. My only explanation for now is a problem with the internal network between my VirtualBox Test VMs. Sorry, I know this sounds very strange. But despite of the kernel config option CONFIG_NFS_DISABLE_UDP_SUPPORT=y I can mount the NFS-shares on the jammy server with nfs3+udp from every test client VM. /proc/mounts shows: vers=3 and proto=udp Only on the server itself I cannot mount with nfs3+udp. mount -o vers=3,udp 192.168.0.1:/srv/nfs/testshare /mnt leads to mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified but mount -o vers=3,tcp 192.168.0.1:/srv/nfs/testshare /mnt is working. So conclusion for me now. The /etc/nfs.conf params are working correctly and my nfs3+udp problem is solved. But nfs3+udp should not be possible to be enabled with respect to the kernel param. This disabled NFS3 support seems only to affect the client part of the kernel-module. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964093 Title: nfsver=3,udp not working anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1964093/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1962289] Re: Mediatek AIoT i500 support
Hi there, Thanks for the nice debdiffs; reading through these, I see the following changes: 1) a new boot script – fine, albeit flash-kernel seems to collect more and more of them and it would be good to avoid having too many 2) support for using the kernel ABI version in substs – why not, albeit it's a bit surprising this wasn't needed so far, and it looks like this might be breaking an abstraction 3) a new its file as a template for the FIT image; this one seems really wrong to me because it has this long list of dtbos which will likely evolve across kernel versions IMO the job of flash-kernel is to keep track of the method with which we install kernels/initramfses/other boot assets, but once a method is implemented, it can be used for a long time. Here, the list of dtbos is very long and seems very platform specific, so it's likely to evolve with kernel versions, so it will likely result in having to update flash-kernel for a new kernel, or having to manage versioned dependencies like "at least this version of flash-kernel to get the its that installs this list of dtbos". I'm not sure what the proper solution is, it could be that the its file should be provided by the kernel rather than flash-kernel, like dtbs, or perhaps we need to scan for dtbo files. What would be really useful would be to explain how these dtbos are being used, what's the scenario in which they are used in the FIT image?
