[Bug 1964542] Re: [nvidia] One monitor remains black on startup or resume from sleep

2022-03-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Is it the IBM or the LG monitor that remains black?

I can't see any hints of a problem in the log. It sounds like maybe
GNOME can't uniquely identify one of the monitors and so can't remember
its preferred setting.

[Bug 1964542] Re: [nvidia] One monitor remains black on startup or resume from sleep

2022-03-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Maybe try enabling Wayland and then see if logging into 'Ubuntu on
Wayland' avoids the problem.

To enable Wayland you will need to change the kernel parameter:

  nomodeset

to:

  nvidia-drm.modeset=1

and then run:

  sudo update-grub

and reboot.

[Bug 1964711] Re: Locked Ubuntu is frozen and cannot be unlocked

2022-03-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

You've not given details as to your actual install; was it a Ubuntu
Desktop 20.04 LTS or Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS?

You do mention moving mouse; a device not normally attached to servers,
so I'm assume (rightly/wrongly) you're asking about a desktop system -
but it's best if these details are provided.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1964711

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

(Note: this issue could be related to

[Bug 1964741] [NEW] date command produces "invalid date" on day of DST change when calculating a time between 02:00 and 02:59

2022-03-13 Thread Tom May
Public bug reported:

When calculating a timestamp for a time between 02:00 and 02:59 in some
locales, date will report "invalid date".

This only occurs if the system time is currently during the day that
standard time transitions to daylight time.

Example:

OS Version information:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS
Release:20.04
Codename: focal

System Locale is: America/Chicago
System time the command was issued: Sun 13 Mar 2022 10:15:18 PM CDT
Command issued: date +%s -d 'tomorrow 02:50'

System Response: date: invalid date 'tomorrow 02:50'

If the command issued is changed such that the calculated time is anything
other than a time between 02:00 and 02:59 the output is normal.

[Bug 1963701] Re: [NVIDIA][Wayland] graphic target not able to reach as the only monitor connect to NV GPU only on I+N machine

2022-03-13 Thread jeremyszu
In daily build:
kernel: nvidia-modeset: Loading NVIDIA Kernel Mode Setting Driver for UNIX
platforms 470.103.01

From comment#2:
kernel: NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 510.39.01

In latest ubuntu archive:
kernel: nvidia-modeset: Loading NVIDIA Kernel Mode Setting Driver for UNIX
platforms 510.54

This issue can be fixed if executing:
sudo ubuntu-drivers install nvidia:510

Thus, the issue is be fixed by latest nvidia driver.
We need to see whether the u-d-c didn't choose 510 in this case.
(I did connect to internet during the instalaltion)

[Bug 1963701] Re: [NVIDIA][Wayland] graphic target not able to reach as the only monitor connect to NV GPU only on I+N machine

2022-03-13 Thread jeremyszu
Still could reproduce this issue with Jammy daily build (3/13)

$ sha256sum ~/Downloads/jammy-desktop-amd64.iso
1c46933bf1837e6427f994676c60d54515c6ce011276dbfe4c5a63e427fdc2c5
/home/jeremysu/Downloads/jammy-desktop-amd64.iso

1. Install third-part drivers during the installation.
2. After installation, don't choose a mode specifically, it'll use X because of
u-d-c patch.
3. sudo apt dist-upgrade
4. reboot with choosing to Wayland.
5. there is no output.

[Bug 1964393] Re: gnome-shell crashed with assertion failure in meta_kms_update_set_power_save: !update->plane_assignments

2022-03-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's great, but:

(a) When you reported this bug in GNOME 41 you didn't have the triple
buffering feature (libmutter-9-0 41.3-3ubuntu1); and

(b) If you are using jammy-proposed then even that (mutter
42~beta-1ubuntu2) does not yet have the
MUTTER_DEBUG_DISABLE_TRIPLE_BUFFERING feature.

So it sounds like *introducing* triple buffering has fixed the problem
for you. I suspected that might happen thanks to
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/commit/163776ae49f

Or you might just be lucky and the problem may come back... We'll have a
better idea after Ubuntu 22.04 is released to a wider audience.

[Bug 1964675] Re: Window dragging lag when rendering 3d objects. (GNOME 42, NVIDIA, glxgear, pymol)

2022-03-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This sounds like a continuation of Nvidia bug 1799679.

Please test regular Ubuntu 22.04 (GNOME 41) and/or Ubuntu 21.10 (GNOME
40) and tell us if the same problem exists there. I just want to confirm
it's not a new problem in GNOME 42 here.

[Bug 1959888] Re: Wayland sessions can't use external monitors that are connected to an Nvidia GPU with the proprietary driver

2022-03-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Proof of concept workaround/fix:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/vanvugt/mutter/-/commit/8c57fd13766c74007c696a0fbb74f1b2a89ff099

But even when finished it will be a little slow. We're waiting for
Nvidia to update their driver such that the GBM API doesn't fail when
it's the secondary GPU. Until then we should probably default to Xorg so
that all monitors work with reasonable performance.

This issue occurs even when the other one, which is intermittent, does
not.

Comment #6 doesn't appear to be directly relevant to this bug. But most
likely if you don't have the option to log into a Wayland session then
you're probably using Nvidia and need to add the kernel parameter:
nvidia-drm.modeset=1

[Bug 1964682] Re: IBus not starting properly at login with gnome-shell 42

2022-03-13 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
The issue only happens when logging in to a wayland session.

Also, I stumbled upon this upstream gtk issue:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/4699

Currently we install ibus-gtk4 by default (ibus recommends it), which is
my 'fault'. Assumed that it should be consistent with how ibus-gtk3 is
handled. Maybe not? OTOH, uninstalling ibus-gtk4 does not make a
difference with respect to the issue reported through this bug, so this
piece of info may be off topic here.

[Bug 1964732] [NEW] [FFe] Include Desktop Icons Appearance Settings

2022-03-13 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

In Jammy the default desktop extension is providing lots settings in a
non very integrated way, accessible from right-click:

https://i.imgur.com/boMhCrH.png

We got a community contribution
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/gnome-control-
center/-/merge_requests/9) to move the most relevant (for ubuntu)
settings into the ubuntu "appearance" panel in gnome-control-center so
that we can explicitly only support a restricted number of options that
we care about, while all the rest can be tuned when using the ding
options manually or tools such as d-conf editor.

The appearance options will include these new widgets:

https://i.imgur.com/Cup75om.png

This is the code involved:
 -
https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-control-center/-/commit/3f7c10501b1ac28311dd9edb64e64bfbbcd67204

Not sure this is fully a FFe request, given that from the global desktop
point of view we want actually support less features.

---

It would be nice to be able to upload the update before UIF, so that we
don't require further exception steps.

[Bug 1964723] Re: lttng-modules is out of sync with lttng-tools

2022-03-13 Thread Michael Jeanson
The most notable features of this new release are:
  - Event-rule matches condition triggers and new actions, allowing internal
actions or external monitoring applications to quickly react when kernel
or user-space instrumentation is hit,
  - Notification payload capture, allowing external monitoring applications
to read elements of the instrumentation payload when instrumentation is
hit.
  - User space time namespace context.

[Bug 1964723] [NEW] lttng-modules is out of sync with lttng-tools

2022-03-13 Thread Michael Jeanson
Public bug reported:

In jammy, the lttng-tools and lttng-ust packages were updated to the
2.13 release while lttng-modules is still at 2.12, while this might work
for some use-cases, it is both unsupported and untested upstream.

This is probably because of the ubuntu delta in the lttng-modules
package which can be dropped since it's only patches to enable building
against newer kernels which are all included in the 2.13 branch.

I maintain the lttng packages in Debian and would really like to see a
solid lttng stack in the next ubuntu lts.

As a side-note, the package in testing "2.13.1" supports kernels up to
5.16, the one in unstable "2.13.1" adds support for 5.17 while the
current jammy package has ubuntu patches to support 5.14.

** Affects: lttng-modules (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1964722] [NEW] sleep no longer working since upgrade to jammy development

2022-03-13 Thread Wouter van Bommel
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to jammy (development) sleep is no longer working.
Symptoms are that the laptop will attempt to sleep, but the system never
goes to the actual standby, but hangs, using lots of power and the fans
start spinning.

The powerbutton becomes unresponsive and the only way to get back to a
running system is by a hard reset.

Since zfs (encrypted) is used as a root system also tried the zfs-dkms
but that didn't make a difference.

Problem occurs both with the generic and the low latency kernel. There
where no problems with either version on Focal.

[Bug 1964713] Re: Can't boot anymore with 5.15.0-22

2022-03-13 Thread Franck
Well, the problem was probably not tied to linux-iamge, as I could
recover a fully functional system with Zsys, going 3 days back. And in
this state, my kernel is 5.15.0-22-generic...

So the origin of the problem was something else... don't konw what.

Closing the report.

[Bug 1946538] Re: Update to Maliit 2.x

2022-03-13 Thread KAMiKAZOW
Even though I'm not involved with that packaging project, my gut feeling
is that Debian would appreciate helping hands:

https://salsa.debian.org/debian/maliit-framework

https://salsa.debian.org/debian/maliit-keyboard

The new packages would then trickle down to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1964711] Re: Locked Ubuntu is frozen and cannot be unlocked

2022-03-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1964711/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1964713] [NEW] Can't boot anymore with 5.15.0-22

2022-03-13 Thread Franck
Public bug reported:

upgrade from 5.15.0-17 to 5.15.0-22 seems to have broken my system.
After showing the splash screen, screen does black and system is stuck
(need to hard reboot).

From grub, going back to 5.15.0-17 recovery mode allows to boot.
5.15.0-22 recovery mode freezes on initramfs loading.

Hardware is a Tuxedo Infinitybook Prod 14 Gen 6, with Iris xe graphics.

Not sure how to debug this...

[Bug 1769116] Re: Some code accessed the property 'discreteGpuAvailable' on the module 'appDisplay'

2022-03-13 Thread William R. Edgington
I am seeing this after CDROM read errors of audio CDs using rhythmbox on Ubuntu
20.04 with an Nvidia video card.
After that, rhythmbox fails to start, adding this complaint to /var/log/syslog,
and cannot be restarted without logging off or rebooting.

Nearby syslog entries appended.

[Bug 1893719] Re: Request for adding support for Synaptics fingerprint reader sensors: 0xE9 and 0xDF

2022-03-13 Thread Gabor Enyedi
Hi!

Since version 1.90.7, the support of this device has gone. I tried to use the
old version with no success (old version drops "(process:124322):
libfprint-synaptics-DEBUG: 15:34:15.238: Enrollment has failed!: 104", new
version says the device is not supported). It would be nice to have support.
I have a HP G8 Elitebook x360 1040.
BR,

Gabor

The attached patch includes the fixes needed to build php-symfony-
polyfill for the new php 8.1 stack with libicu70.

The fix is available in a PPA at https://launchpad.net/~athos-

I also ran the dep8 test suite locally. Here is the result summary:

[Bug 1964711] [NEW] Locked Ubuntu is frozen and cannot be unlocked

2022-03-13 Thread Philipp
Public bug reported:

After locking Ubuntu and leaving it unattended for a while, the
operating system cannot be unlocked anymore. No means of user input
(e.g. typing on the keyboard, moving the mouse) produce the lock screen
and I have to shut down my computer by pressing down the power button.
The attached monitor does not receive a signal from the computer during
these attempts.

This started to happen several weeks ago and worked without a problem
before then.

Due to the nature of this issue, I can neither report any errors
occurring nor can I observe any other out of the ordinary things from
happening. Thus, I don’t know which package is causing the issue. Also,
this issue happens every time I leave the computer unattended for a
longer time and lock it. However, locking it and triggering an input
immediately after does produce the lock screen, so the lock screen seems
to work in principle.

[Bug 1964709] [NEW] 1.24.0-1ubuntu1 FTBFS: PHP 8.1 and libicu changes

2022-03-13 Thread Athos Ribeiro
Public bug reported:

The upstream patch which was being dropped in our delta is now needed
for the new PHP stack (see revert-update-intl-currencies-data.patch).

Moreover, recent libicu changes are incompatible with the current
upstream test suite. [1] has more details on these test failures and
also fixes the issue for php-intl builds linked to libicu70.
